Would you accept yourself to find your humanity.?

Ellie Cooper comes from a long line of witches but wishes she could be normal. When she nearly kills herself cursing a vampire, her dislike of her heritage deepens. She must find a way to accept her magic or forsake her family.

After feeding on a witch, 693-year-old vampire Charles Dumphrey wakes to find he is living a human teenage life, complete with parents, school and girls. He must adjust to his new life as a human and find a way to break the curse Ellie put on him.

Lee is a werewolf who is not yet shifting regularly. He worries about who he will be when he regulates. Lee searches for the balance between his humanity and the wolf before the wolf takes over.

All three have to overcome their uncertainties and accept themselves in order to save Ellie’s life.

NB: This is not your usual vampire story. A lot of stories take a human character and turn them into a vampire early on, this is the opposite. If you're looking for a typical vampire/witch romance (e.g. 'the Vampire Diaries'), this book might not be for you. Please be aware that this story uses Australian English spelling and syntax.

Writer. Reader. Perpetual student. Nerd.

I started out writing fantasy. But, I like to write anything, honestly. These days, I mainly stick to YA and there's always at least a sprinkling of romance, if not a 'whoops, I dropped the whole packet in'. Almost all my books are set in my home state of South Australia, either in real or fictional places - gotta write what you know - with Netherfield being the only current exception.

Like most writers, I love to read. Although, time for reading at the moment is hard to come by. When I'm not too busy writing, I'm usually reading a number of authors. Some of my favourites are Rick Riordan, Jane Austen, Kate Forsyth, Cecilia Dart-Thornton, Kasie West, John Flanagan, Terry Pratchett, Isobelle Carmody, Christina Benjamin, Emily Rodda, and many more.

I'm an avid fan of Marvel, DC, Doctor Who, Supernatural, Red Dwarf, IT Crowd, and pretty much anything similar. I've recently discovered Richard Ayoade's Travel Man and it's brilliant. I love watching soccer (go Gunners) and thoroughly look forward to seeing Eurovision every year. Celebrity crushes include Anna Kendrick and Chris Evans, because they are wonderful.

I live in Adelaide with my husband and a menagerie of animals – a cat reliving her (sixth) youth, a cowardly Beagle-Cavalier who thinks he’s smaller than he is, one meeping guinea pig who thinks any plastic bag has his greens in, two chickens who are terrified of free-ranging, and a turtle with a penchant for sticking her head up her filter pipe.

I have a Master of Arts (Writing) from Swinburne University of Technology. I also have a Master of Arts (Editing and Publishing) at University of Southern Queensland and, am now working towards my PhD. I also hope to one day undertake a PhD in Creative Writing - perpetual student, am I.

I also organise the Sleeping Dragon Emerging Fantasy Writers’ Collective writing group. The group self-published their anthology Tales from the Sleeping Dragon in 2012.

(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to author Elizabeth Stevens.)

This book was a YA fantasy story about a witch, a vampire, and a werewolf.

Charles, Ellie, and Lee were all okay characters, but I didn’t really love any of them, and found the book quite hard to get into.

The storyline in this was about Charles attacking Ellie, and Ellie cursing him. Charles then had to adapt to being a human rather than a vampire, and I was quite shocked at how much Ellie’s parents helped him considering that he tried to kill their daughter!
I did have some issues with this book though, I found it hard to get in to, I found it a bit weird that conversations were repeated from different points of view, and I just generally wondered where the story was going. It was also a little confusing the way that Ellie was often referred to as ‘Pet’ interchangeably.

The ending to this didn’t really tie much up for me, and I just wondered

The moment I read this was about a witch and a vampire I jumped at the chance to get it. The closest I got to an intriguing vampire/witch relationship was L.J. Smith's Bonnie and Damon. Since then I've been waiting on the chance a writer will use these two powerful supernatural creatures in an Epic series. Sadly, for now I have to stick to fan fiction of Bonnie and Damon.

Coming to Unvamped, you see how I had gigantic expectations. Nevertheless, I should have taken a hint from the title. It's mostly about a vampire who must get used to getting his vampire senses off. that does not sound like an interesting start.

Charles, the ex-vampire, gets cursed by Ellie, the witch, after he attacked her in an alleyway and drank her blood. Turns out Ellie did that curse by luck and she had to idea how she did it. It might have happened because of the situation, so I let that slide. Her mother starts helping Charlie getting his vampire senses back, why? I have no idea, except they felt bad. Charlie, being ancient and all, lives with a family who think for some reason he's their son as a human. He even starts doing house work. In my opinion, reading about someone who does house work is as fun as actually doing them

Charlie starts behaving like a teenager despite being previously married!!!!. So I don't get the distinct personalities. . He also starts developing a crush on Ellie/Pet and she does as well despite having a boyfriend. How can these two actually be compatible? the narration doesn't say.

Also, there was a character named Lee, he's a werewolf. He seemed to have a point at first but the majority of the book he was in the werewolf camp. But Ellie and Charlie consider him a friend and they're attending a supernatural academy together. *shrug*

I did not feel anything for the characters or the story.

A witch, a vampire and a werewolf; great material for an outstanding story but it was all over the place. I've read erotica novels who had more story than this. The antagonist was obvious all along. His motives, the same; more power. In one chapter, he was dealt with in a very anticlimactic twist.

What annoyed me was how the characters had no fight in them for such supernatural creature. They're easily subdued. Except for Lee who at least showed some reactivity to what's happening to him. The only time Charlie showed reactivity to his curse was quickly smothered by his guilt for attacking Ellie.

I really expected better.

'Unvamped', is a story about a vampire, witch and werewolf all coming to terms with who they are. There is Charles, a vampire who becomes human after being cursed by Ellie, a witch and there is Lee, who is having trouble accepting being a werewolf. The three of them become close friends and end up working together in this story which has an interesting twist at the end.

I really enjoyed this story, and thought that it was different to the usual vampire/witch/werewolf books that I have read many times. Charles, was my favourite character because I thought that his struggle was the hardest. He has to learn to be human after spending so long as a vampire and you just knew that he wasn't going to find it easy. He struggles with it throughout the story and I found myself feeling sorry for him. At the beginning, you just think he is a vampire with no soul, but you learn that he is much more than that. You see it in his friendships with Ellie and Lee.

Ellie, I thought was an alright character and I could understand why she didn't really like magic. I liked how she was with Charles, and how the two of them grew closer. The familiar that she had which was a black ferret, I thought was really funny and I liked him in it. I've been use to witches in stories always having cats so it was different to what I expected.

Lee, at first I was unsure about but as the story went on I grew to like him. His struggle was hard, I thought because he seemed as though he was in a constant battle.

Some of the places the characters go to such as Wolf camp and the academy sounded very interesting.

Overall I liked this story and would recommend it to anybody. It was well written and I look forward to more work by this author in the future.

Thank you to the author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed it very much.

Note: I receive a digital copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

I was happy when I read the prologue up to chapter one because it was actually the first time I read a novel with multiple POVs. I was like, "Woah! I don't have to read Six of Crows for multiple POVs." But I don't think I was thinking straight that time. What I don't understand about this book was the repetitions of the scenes in different POVs. It was hella confusing in so so so many ways!

I also found the chapters too long and dragging. I believe it can be trimmed with depth and a decent world building and character development. It needs heavy proof-reading and rewriting. Don't get me wrong though, I know how hard it is to create a book. So to be honest, it really has an interesting plot and romance it just really needs to be polished.

So for the characters, I didn't really get it why Pet's family, except for her sister Morganna, were so nice with Charlie, the almost 700 year old vampire who only almost drained Pet's blood. And I also didn't get if Charlie was almost 700 years old, why was he acting like a teenager? It gets confusing towards the end. And and and, shouldn't be a policy or a law between a vampire, witch and a wolf so they can live in peace? Like a peace treaty or something. Lastly, I didn't get what does Lee had to do with anything aside from saving Pet in the end of the story. There were a lot of things that didn't make sense.

I hope this book was not written because of the vampire, wolf and witch hype and trend. I believe this book has a lot of potentials. Good job on making this book by the way, you have my respect! :)

**I received this book from the author on a read to review basis in exchange for an honest review.**
Upon reading the summary of the book, I thought it would have more action, and be longer than it actually was. Apart from being slow, I felt confused for a big part of the book and didn't really understand the ending. However, I did enjoy the characters and the relationships between them.
The characters in the novel were different from most characters in that they were each struggling with a part of their supernatural selves that they didn't like. Each character had to have the support of the others to eventually accept themselves and embrace the parts they didn't like. The characters were also unique in that they had support from various family and friends except for one of them, who had to find that support in himself and his new friends.
I also enjoyed seeing the relationships between the characters because it allowed me to see how each character was feeling.
That said, I thought the writing style was a little disjointed at times, which made the story hard to follow. It also felt rushed, though there was (in my oppinion) not that much action.
Overall, I liked the characters and the relationships between them, but the writing style made the book confusing and hard to follow.

This wasn't a bad read, but I really struggled to get into this at the start, which had an effect on the rest of it. There were quite a few times where I felt bored, and unfortunately, it dragged slightly for me because of it.

Overall, Not one that I really enjoyed, but it wasn't bad.

I really wanted to like this book as the blurb spoke to my paranormal soul. I love all things paranormal and while it totally sounded like a predictable PNR, I gave it a go. I mean, what could go wrong? The writing was pretty good, grammatically-wise. The thing that held me back was my non-attachment to the characters. They fell flat and didn't pique my interest. So disappointing.

Disclosure: I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I honestly LOVED this book more than I thought I would! I would love to see what happens with the characters in "college" if there's a sequel!

When first starting the book I wasn't sure I was going to like it, as it was flipping between different points of view of the same event. While I didn't like this initially it did give me a better understanding of the characters and how they thought. Which was useful later on when the author does this less frequently. Just as a side note I didn't care for the point of view switching on the same event in the beginning because it started to feel repetitive. But once I pushed through this intro phase and realized it stopped i really enjoyed the story.

Other than that very minor issue I absolutely loved the story and the characters. I liked how she made them more complex characters as it made the characters more relatable and more like actual "people." This made it easy to lose yourself in the wonderfully magical but modern world she has created. Strongly recommend!!

A little about the story itself, while not giving anything away, is that it focuses primarily on witches, werewolves, vampires, and humans. And a group of new friends that become closer as the story goes on and they face several obstacles together.

(I received a copy from the author, In exchange for an honest review.)

I really liked the plot of this book (vampire attacks witch, witch curses vampire, vampire turned human learns to accept humanity, becomes friends with werewolves and the witch who cursed him, falls in love and breaks his curse.) of course there is a little more to it then that, but you get the generally gist of things.

The few problems I had with this book is
1. In the beginning each events was repeat 2 or 3 time in a different POV. Once that had stopped and I wasn't reading similar stories over and over again, I got in to the book more.

2. The Ending, don't get me wrong its a beautiful ending but it does leave a few big questions unanswered (e.g. Has Lee finally gained control of his wolf side? Do Mary and Arthur still think he is their son now that the curse has broken? or has their life gone back to the was it was before the curse?)

Anyway all in all Unvamped was an alright read.

I really enjoyed this book. It was enjoyable to read and the story flowed well, and I found it difficult to put the book down at times.

It was great to see the usual vampire storyline turned around. It gave this book a unique twist and a fresh feel that sets it apart from all the other young adult/vampire books around.

A great story about the difficulties of growing up and accepting who you are, within a fantasy theme. Suitable for all ages, young and old.

Will definitely be looking forward to more books from this author!

Thank you Elizabeth Stevens for the opportunity to read your book. This was a decent read. This was not the book for me. I didn't get into it the story. The characters were okay. I couldn't really identify with them.

The romance did not feel very genuine. There were moments when I was bored. The book tended to drag on and the long chapters made me want to put the book down a couple of times. Overall, an okay read.

What a story.

Ellie - a witch in training wishing she was normal. Normal? Really? I wanna be a Witch! Well her type of Witch. :) she’s got wicked powerful magic. Not wicked as in evil but wicked as in awesome! So cool.

Charles/Charlie is a vampire. tsk tsk. Almost kills the poor girl but she haha curses him! Unknowingly. He deserved it!!! But as she helps him through his struggles she learns more about him and they become friends.

Lee, trying to control his inner wolf whom is very angry and loves power and control. Lee meanwhile human is kind and loving and caring. Struggles to shift regularly but doesn’t know if he really wants it...

Between the three of them and school struggles are real. But what happens when something else is thrown into the mix? Hate, love, betrayal, fear, joy, confusion, understanding. Power.

The struggles of accepting yourself for who you are. They all go through that. Maybe that’s what makes them such good friends. And more powerful as a team.

What a fascinating and captivating read. Definitely recommend!

I received this book from Voracious Readers Only via the author for a free review.

Started out a little slow for me but sucked me in a little under half way.

I love Pet and Charlie!!
Besides the whole she almost dying part, I thought it was hilarious that she turned Charlie human.

I didn't like Lee in the beginning; I didn't really see the point in his character; His whole storyline felt totally separate from the rest of the story as a whole, but then it didn't. His story started to flow better in synced with Charlie and Ellie.
He then started to grow on me and I started to hate seeing his wolf be a big dick to everyone.
Plus I knew that Amber chick was bad news. Nasty Slut!!!!

I liked the whole trio and how each one had something they were trying to fight but was a big part of who they are.

Bring on Book Two!!!!

Reviewed for Readers Favorite

Charles is a 700 plus year old vampire, or at least he was until last night, who has become just a little jaded to life on earth with humans. Petronella, or Ellie is a young witch who hasn't decided if this is a gift or a curse, she just wants to be normal. Lee is your typical teenage werewolf, trying to adjust to the monthly changes and not enjoying it, wanting to be normal. One night, quite by chance, all three would encounter each other and all their lives would become entangled. Charles would try to quench his thirst on Ellie, who would curse Charles turning him human, and Lee would see is all from a distance. No big deal right? Wrong. Now they find that they will each need each other to figure out this messed up thing called life as a teenage vampire, witch or werewolf. Unvamped is a catchy title for the story, partly of Charlie, who is no longer a vampire, but also of Ellie and Lee. Author Elizabeth Stevens takes normal human emotions of growing up and translates them to these paranormals and gives a divine story.

Although the title would make you think that Unvamped is mostly about Charlie, and while he is the main character, he has a lot to learn or relearn to shed his jaded ways. It is still just as much about Ellie, a powerful young witch with so much potential that she is a threat to some, and promise to others and she just wants to be a teenager. Lee is having trouble controlling his changes from boy to wolf, and this is causing problems, which only grow with the book. The funny thing is that Charlie is the one that seems to be the best equipped to help Lee out and deal with the issues. It's an uneasy alliance between these three in the beginning then becomes a friendship that changes so much about them all. Author Elizabeth Stevens gives the reader a wonderful story with so much to recommend it for any reader.

(I received a copy from the author, In exchange for an honest review.)

I really like werewolves and vampires and will try anything that pushes away from crappy love stories.

I struggled really hard to get into Unvamped, and DNF on chapter 2.

It has potential and it’s the reason why I chose to read it. But it’s in dire need of editing. The phrases and wording are all off, and there's grammatical errors that really drag the book down in the first few pages.

For example: The character is made to just do things for the sake of descriptions, such as him going to look around the house- it could have been done more subtly - but it comes off as forced.

Too many words were used when a lot less could’ve been better, and probably the main reason I couldn't read on. It drags the story too much.

For example: “He rubbed his smooth, manicured hands and felt how sweaty they were. Sweaty was uncomfortable, unusual.” - Could have easier been written as “He rubbed his smooth manicured hands that were unusually- and uncomfortably- sweaty.”

One thing that got to me first was this: “He pushed the door open and pushed it ajar again behind him.” - Is it me, but I’m pretty sure you can’t push something ajar, you leave ajar.

We get a repeat of Charlie waking up in the first two chapters and this really confused me. It also made me feel like I was wasting time, it’s basically the same descriptions and movements all over again. Why would I want to read the same thing twice?

Life is too short to read books that don’t hold my interest, and even though I tried my best. I just can’t continue.

Ok, so...The idea was very original, very different from the usual girl meets boy, boy is a vampire and so girl gets transformed so they can be together. It is a fresh story. HOWEVER, that is where it all stops for me, I am all for telling a story from different character's points of views, but not so much for re-living the same exact chapter twice by two different characters. I was losing it reading everything that happened twice. Different perspective for me is telling me something that happened and then getting to see how the other character feels about it or the impact it had on them from their perspective, not telling me the entire thing again, it feels like the plot never moved because of this. Honestly it drove me to put it down and not finish it. A shame because It was an interesting foundation with potential.

Where do I even begin with this book? Well, I really really enjoyed it. I love anything that deals with witches and vampire and werewolves. It was evenly paced. I wouldn't say it was slow, but it wasn't one of those books that you read super fast either. The author takes her time fleshing out each character, and I loved that. We get to see what is going on in each character's mind about the same things. I also enjoyed the back and forth POV. It was fun to read about Ellie and Charles hanging out together and then read about what Lee was getting up to at camp. This is book 1 and I look forward to reading book 2.

I started this book for NaNoWriMo (nanowrimo.org) in 2012 and finished in 2013. This was the second book I'd ever finished - though I've started a lot :) - and the first to be chosen for publication. I found it quite easy to write; it was more like the story already existed and I was just transcribing it.
I wrote this story in the hopes to create something interesting and a bit different - hence Charles the vampire becomes human, rather than the usual other way around. But, I also wanted to write a story that might help people feel a bit less apprehensive in accepting themselves for who they are, rather than worry about who they might/should be.
In the end, this story is just a bit of fun and entertainment, and I hope others agree :)
