JFK, a firefighter whose classy nickname flies in the face of his unpolished behavior, is on the verge of change. He’s started losing weight and even cut back on swearing and drinking. Still, he believes people never really change. When the striking beauty Mercy McGovern wanders into his kitchen and he sees her two-year sobriety coin, he wonders if he’s been wrong his whole life.
Mercy, a college grad in search of a career to finish getting her life back on track, is immediately attracted to the capable chef running his precision kitchen at a charity event. But on their first date, it’s obvious he’s used to hanging out with guys, not with a lady. That won’t fly for Mercy, whose extended family, the Jewells, could write books on manners.
Time after time JFK comes to her rescue, but despite her rowdy past, Mercy knows she’s worthy of someone who knows how to open a door for her. Can she help him learn that people really do change? And can JFK complete his transformation and be the man she needs in her life?
My review is on the Contemporary Christian Romance, Rescue, and Redemption. This is a Park City Firefighter Romance. I've only read a couple of Daniel's books but I really enjoy the man's view that he brings to these romances. They are well-written, humorous, and full of drama. I know you are going to love it.
Firefighter JFK is one of the few men left at the firehouse that is single. He has no idea how to treat a lady. He is known for being crude, rude, and obnoxious. JFK is a master chef; when one of his people tells him about Homecooked Holidays event for older citizens that is going to be cancelled because they have no chef. He ends up agreeing to do it. When he is working in the kitchen the volunteer coordinator turns out to be a really hot woman; he can't get her out of his mind.
Mercy McGovern just graduated from college as a nonprofit Manager. When she heard about the Homecooked Holidays event being cancelled she volunteers to coordinate the event. She had once been an alcoholic but had just received her two-year sobriety medal. She meets this gorgeous guy in the kitchen and he asked her out for a drink. So not a good idea. She shows him her medal. He asks her to go to a Firehouse Award Banquet. She goes but the man has no manners at all. He is hopeless.
A humorous journey on how to change a guy with no clue into a respectable man. God has a plan for these two broken souls, a plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too. A plan for peace and not for destruction. Give Him your heart and watch HIm move in your life.
This is my first Daniel Banner book. I thought reading a book about firefighters written about firefighters should be good. Well it was. Full disclosure, I didn’t like the character JFK in the other books in this series that I already had read, so I had been on the fence about reading this one. Getting to see inside his head and finding out why he was like he was definitely made me like him better. The book starts off with JFK frustrated at how all his fellow mates at the firehouse were falling in love and getting married and how he is determined not to change. In walks in his ideal woman, Mercy, and he is singing a different tune. Mercy sees this ‘Tarzan’ like man and she is intrigued to find a real guy who was not at all the “calendar model firefighter” type. I loved his utter lack of manners on the first! I was cracking up laughing because I could totally imagine those scenes. Good for Mercy for standing up and expecting more from her date. How he made it up to her was first class. I went crazy highlighting lots of dialogue that I enjoyed. The book was funny, had depth to it, and just an overall enjoying read. I’ll definitely be reading more by this author!
Romance, clean, series, but stand alone read This was a cute, fun read. JFK finally gets his story. He has been featured as a side character in the other novellas in this series. Always a bit of a rough character, kind of a jerk. He softens up in this as he gets to know Mercy, and we see his heart in this one. I always love a character with a hurting heart that isn't sure of themselves. His bluster and his kindness to others made for a beautiful read. Mercy's discovery of his true heart, and his true self, her unconditional love for him, once she realizes who he is, and his desire to be the best for her, made for a lovely, sweet read. I always enjoy reading about the brotherhood in the station, and how they help each other. The bit with her car was beautiful. Loved seeing them 'gift' of themselves to someone, the elderly woman, and her Robert, and JFK's names, it was a beautiful sweet read, full of heartfelt emotions. Lovely novella.
This is another great new read from Daniel Banner! The characters are flawed and relatable. Even the character who I thought I would never understand or relate to (in previous books) is so relatable! I loved how this book discussed perceptions, stereotypes, and overcoming judgement from others. Sweet, clean, I'd rate it PG. It does mention alcoholism, but in a tasteful and inspiring way.
JFK has always been the most annoying/awful character in the series and I was curious if Banner could make him a sympathetic guy. He did a pretty good job with a back story and an impetus and hope for change. I could wish for a little more info and emotion on the characters' struggles with alcohol, but we get a fair look at their problems with self-esteem and relationships. Neither character is perfect, but they're good together.
This is my first book by Daniel Banner. I must admit the character JFK frustrated me at first. He was arrogant and seemed to push people away. As the story developed and you got to know him better you could see how a lot of it was an act. When mercy comes into the picture, she teaches him a lot about tact and manners... good for her by the way! This was a fun, sweet, clean read with happy ending.
I really wondered how Daniel Banner was going to rehabilate JFK's personality. He was just so obnoxious! The secret was to give him a woman who wasn't afraid of all that. It worked beautifully. JFK had Mercy crying happy tears by the 43 percent mark, and I was crying with her. This really was a story of rescue and redemption for both characters, and I loved it.
Sweet, clean romance. JFK-hot, brash firefighter and gourmet chef...he enjoys ribbing his firefighter buddies and cooking for large crowds. Secretly, he’s a quiet guy looking for THE one....and he’s starting with changing himself and losing weight. Then he meets bad girl, and recovering alcoholic, Mercy. Can this pair help heal each other and have an HEA?
JFK was always known as the worst fireman on his shift he had no filter and the things out of his mouth was hateful 99% of the time. But he has slowly started to change but kept up his old image until he met Mercy at a senior get together and it was love at first sight except JFK NEVER dated and had NO CLUE how to treat a woman correctly.
I love this book and these breathtaking characters with a heart gold and challenging life stories that Let you see what happens to make these two people perfect for each other.
Finding love isn't easy but for JFK and Mercy it is more of a challenge than for most. JFK has no manners and Mercy is two years sober. I really enjoyed the book because of the two flawed characters as they grew together.
DNF because I couldn't stand Mercy. Wow, what a judgmental snob. You'd think someone who just got their 2 year chip would be kinder and more understanding and not such a .....witch. Honestly I really couldn't stand her. Felt badly for JFK who clearly was raised by wolves. A little kindness on her end might have gone a long way. Self righteousness is quite off putting.
