Cassia Winter is a witch. With the help of her cat, Stanley, she investigates crimes in the magical town of Brimstone. This story sees them dealing with the death of a banshee called Dana Murphy.
On the morning of her death, Dana Murphy’s dying scream produces a huge amount of energy that rushes through the town of Brimstone. The energy makes its way to Cassia’s world and sends her flying off her feet. Upon entering Brimstone, Cassia is told that as the town banshee, Dana predicted many deaths - but apparently not her own.
Cassia and Stanley investigate Dana’s death and are confronted with the grim reality of how she died. They discover that more than one resident in Brimstone had a reason to put an end to Dana’s special talent.
As well as dealing with the murder investigation, Cassia is confronted with help from an unlikely source. Stanley immediately feels uneasy, and that unease grows as they delve further into Dana’s murder.

April Fernsby lives in the north of England in a county called Yorkshire. Yorkshire has its fair share of hauntings and supernatural events, including a witch called Mary Bateman, aka The Yorkshire Witch, whose skeleton now hangs in a local museum.
April loves all things supernatural and mysterious. Her favourite book as a child was ‘The Faraway Tree’ as it took the reader into a different world where unusual creatures lived. April looked for a similar tree near her house but never found it.
Her Brimstone Witch series involves the main character, Cassia Winter, going through a cellar door and into another world where magical creatures live, and mysteries abound.
This one was the least favorite of the books so far but still good. I am just getting too tired of the evil Astrid thing. I think she has been a thorn in the book for one book too long. Good mystery.
This is the best Brimstone Witch Mystery I’ve read so far, that’s why it has 5 stars. We go on another adventure with Cassia and Stanley, and there is something big brewing in Brimstone. With Luca not around to help with the investigation, Avril is helping Cassia and as we know from previous books, Avril detests Cassia and has caused nothing but trouble for her and Stanley, even going so far as to shape shift into Cassia (Avril is a shape shifter and guardian) and cause havoc and mistrust towards Cassia from the inhabitants of Brimstone, so why is she offering her help now, all smiles and politeness. Cassia has to accept her help, Blythe, the witch that rules Brimstone has asked Avril to help with Luca gone. Cassia is finding it hard to trust Avril, she’s just too damn nice to her and everyone. And I still didn’t get the who, and the why of the murderer. April, the author does a very good job at keeping you guessing, until it’s revealed. This is the 5 th book in the series, and they just keep getting better. Thoroughly enjoyed it, I’m reading them back to back. Great.
Cassia and Stanley have now solved a few murders. They've been in and out of Brimstone, met most of the neighbors, and made some new friends. But it would seem she has made an enemy, a very evil person who has it out for our dynamic duo. The death of the Banshee has brought them back, but evil will have a hand in it. Cassia's getting stonewalled from the out set. No one wants to tell her the whole story when she asks, and it takes her too long to get to the bottom of the mystery. By the time she figures out what's going on, the whole of Brimstone is at risk. She can't even go to Blythe or her Gran because they have been tricked into leaving town to confront Blythe's cousins. With Cassia learning, someone is keeping a secret from her while questioning a suspect. But who is it and what is it? The final chapters will keep you in suspense. The finale does not leave you wanting. Please make sure you read this. It's phenomenal. On to the next wonderfully written story!
An enjoyable read that ends on a cliffhanger. A blast, a dead banshee and an overture of friendship. Who would want the death of the banshee? Is the old saying true that the motive must be sex, love or money? Is the professed friendship offer real? A good read but really didn't like the fact that it ended on a cliffhanger. Prefer my stories to be complete in themselves even if in a series. Must admit I do love her cat.
I'm starting to understand less and less the mystery. This was called "The Silent Banshee" but it didn't have much information about the Banshee itself. The build up of the mystery is hard to believe. I mean, I get it, but I don't know... it feels like something is missing. There also a couple of typos, but nothing hideous. Now, as a Brimstone mystery, I'll say it's alright. A great continuity to the saga and I do want to keep reading, so points for that.
For a set of cozy mysteries and the rather simple writing style, the backstory sure has gotten complex. A number of small threads have come together to make a thick rope of a plot. It makes me wish our author would write more complex fiction since it's obvious that she has the talent.
This episode of the Brimstone Witch Mysteries kept me guessing throughout the book. I never did figure out who the murderer was. This book ended with a cliffhanger on top of it. I love April Fernsby's imagination! I have already purchased the next installment of the series. I can't wait to see what happens next.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Things look grim for the residents of Brimstone as the body of a banshee is found in a wheat field. The justice witch has her work cut out for her. The story and characters were intriguing and engaging. I look forward to reading more about these characters and their further adventures. This book is definitely worth reading.
I often read take me away books, take me away from my every day world to forget my troubles whilst I forget everything and enjoy Make Me Happy Books.ENJOY NEVER NEVER LAND
A fast and fun enough read. The writing style is very annoying, leaning more to the "tell everything instead of showing anything" side. Book ends on a cliff-hanger, and I hate when books can't stand on their own. I haven't read the other books in the series, and I most likely won't.
There are many lovely retirement homes in Brimstone! At the Caterpillar Retirement Home we meet some of the residents that know when they're going to die! A fast paced mystery!
I have read from book 1 to book 5 this is a very enjoyable series with lots of twists and turns. Some of the books about witches are very similar in story lines but this witch goes between the two worlds. Well worth reading
I loved it! So much goes down in this one. We learn so much about Astrid. Evil person that she is. I hope things work out like Cassie said. This is a must read series! I can’t wait for the next book!

This was a fun paranormal mystery. Characters were well defined. While attempting to solve a murder, a dragon with a memory disorder appears. Nothing is as it seems. One mystery is solved. Was not happy with the ending. Exit evil, stage right.
I loved this book. April Fernsby has written another wonderful book. Trying to figure out the killer was hard, the characters were great and kept you wondering what will happen.
Kindle Unlimited, had 4 of the 4 already plus The Leprechaun's Last Trick (A Brimstone Witch Mystery (A Brimstone Witch Mystery 1.5 basically) from freebie days and had already reviewed all of those, then found had gotten book 5 even on freebie day so had to come back in. Still seeing typos/missing words here and there, and some areas that are either confusing or whatever, minus that still a 4-ish.
