Delilah, Dee to her friends and family, has a high powered corporate job that she loves. She knows she is the best at her job always working long hours, going above and beyond for clients. Work is her life!
Dee gets unexpectedly fired, over rumours of her behaving inappropriately, which leaves her free to help her brother with his knitting and haberdashery shop.

I really enjoyed Dee and JP’s relationship. Dee is the big sister and it was plain to see she would do anything for him. JP had found his niche in life after dropping out of the corporate world following a break down. Initially knitting was used as JP’s therapy but he loved it and was good at it. With Dee’s financial help he opened a haberdashery and also started a knitting blog called “About a (Knitting) Boy”.
Dee throws everything into helping JP boost his business. This is what she is good at. But she always thinks she knows best and forges ahead without consulting JP. Cracks start to appear in their relationship. Cracks she may not be able to mend.

Dee is still seething over losing her job. She knows exactly who back-stabbed her and she is going to make him pay. But is she right?

The Woolly Hat Knitting Club is the perfect read for any knitting enthusiast. The story is filled with knitting, humour, community spirit and a tiny bit of romance.

Dee catches up with a friend that recently gave birth to a premmie baby and a scheme slowly develops across the plot to knit hats for premmie babies, getting the whole community involved in the venture.

There are plenty of familiar features for knitters, like CraftCon, knitathons and beginner knitting classes. All with a good dose of humour included.

The main characters are all likeable and relatable. Dee and JP have a wonderful relationship, they tease each other and bicker occasionally but you can see the closeness there. Ben, Dee’s work nemesis, knows Dee doesn’t like him and can’t understand why. He never gives up on her. Best friend Beckie is the quintessential new mum; she is scared, tired, and rundown but totally in love with her new baby boy. Maggie, the adopted Grandma, is the epitome of selflessness; she looks after her own ageing mother but always has time for Dee and JP, never once complaining.

The Woolly Hat Knitters Club is a feel-good story about finding what makes you happy, with themes of knitting as therapy, new motherhood, premmie babies, judging people by appearance, work overload, community spirit and men who knit.

‘Turns out that knitting is pretty perfect for those times when your head is reeling and your hands need something to do.” – Dee Blackthorn

In a Nutshell: Yes, it’s a predictable story, but with some really sweet content and with the romance not being the focal point for once.

Story:
Dee is a career-oriented management consultant who gives her days and nights to her job. But when her younger brother JP breaks both his wrists in a freak ladder accident, she rushes to help him, not just as his personal support system but also to run the knitting shop he owns. Amid this hectic demand on her time, she is fired from her job supposedly due to her “inappropriate behaviour”. She knows her colleague-cum-nemesis Ben is behind it all. At about the same time, she bumps into an old school friend, who is struggling to find size-appropriate warm clothes for her premature baby. Dee now has three projects in hand:
1. Get JP and his shop back on track.
2. Find proof against Ben and clear her name in the corporate world so that she can find a new job.
3. Use JP’s knitting connections to make the perfect woolly hats for premature babies.

The story goes mostly the predictable fashion, as does every book in this genre. But where it really clicked with me was in the following points:
👉 The sibling relationship between Dee and JP is so well-written! Rarely does a book show all sides of a sibling connection from overprotectiveness to tussles to teasing repartees to mutual love (though secret). I loved that this book put the sibling relation first in its priority. Every other relationship came second.

👉 The characters are pretty loveable within their straightforward arcs. Dee especially worked her way into my heart. She is passionate about whatever she takes up, to the point of ignoring everything else. She thinks she is a good judge of people, falls flat on her assumptions almost every time, and still stands tall, learning from her mistakes. The contrast between hers and JP’s characters is amazing, adding further fun to their sibling banter.

👉 The romance is clean, really squeaky clean. Such a relief to see that in contemporary novels of this genre!

👉 While I’m not into knitting, I still enjoyed all the knitting-related activities detailed out in the book. JP’s fervour for knitting was almost contagious. The way the knitting community comes together to support premature babies was heart-touching.

👉 I have it on good authority (read, two of my knitter friends 😛) that women love men who knit. This fact doesn’t really rock my boat, but if you are one of those who went ga-ga over Tom Daley and his Olympic knitting activities, well… you have TWO good-looking blokes in this story, one who knits passionately and one who attempts knitting for his passion.

👉 The pace of the book also works in its favour and it goes by very quickly.

👉 There are some really lovely lines in the book. Here’s one:
"When you have no say in the big things, you can at least choose to notice the small things and enjoy them right there and then."

👉 Additional bonus points for including detailed knitting instructions for a preemie hat at the end.

I don’t really have any major negative points for this book. My only issue was with the start because it was too straightforward, but once Dee was fired from her job, the book became much more interesting. (Of course, predictability can’t be a negative here because this genre needs formulaic storylines and happy endings.) The story was as I expected, maybe even a teeny bit better. As a chick-lit, it does its job really well. It’s a warm and cosy read, perfect for the days you want something relaxing and heart-warming.

3.75 stars.

I heard the audiobook as narrated by Lizzie Wofford. Listening to her was 9.5 hours of pure fun. I’d definitely recommend the audio version too.

Delilah Blackthorn is a formidable force in her demanding career. She can balance a complex report for a client, her Pilates class, and diplomacy with ease. Then her job is gone and she heads to her home village to help her little brother with his knitting shop -- About a Knitting Boy. A unexpected meeting with an old friend who has a premature baby and is at the end of her rope is the beginning of an idea to knit baby hats. Helping babies becomes a mission and although Delilah loses her way, she soon begins to wonder if securing a nest egg is the same as enjoying said nest. I am not a big knitter, but enjoy cross stitch and loved the way crafters came together in this adorable story. If you buy the book in print, you will also find a pattern and instructions for a baby hat as a bonus at the end of the book. In addition, Lizzie Wofford does a top notch job narrating.

Delilah (Dee) gave her heart and soul to her high-powered city job. During a crucial meeting, she received a text from her brother Julian (JP) telling her to ‘come’. Rushing off she headed to the family home in the village of Fenwild, where she discovered her brother with two broken wrists.

JP is a knitting expert, who runs the local haberdashery, co-owned by Dee and himself. He is also a Blogger/Vlogger too at ‘About a (Knitting) Boy’. When Dee bumped into an old friend, who had just had a premature baby, JP would of loved to of made her something. He did have an idea though, ask his followers to knit her some premature baby hats instead. The idea took off and a knitathon for premature babies came to life.

On her return to work Dee gets fired. Needing a job desperately she phoned numerous friends and agencies, but no-one wanted anything to do with her. False rumours had been circulated and she was certain she knew who the culprit was, ex-colleague Ben. Is he really to blame though?

I’m not into crafting, I learnt to knit when I was a teenager and there are a few booties around in our family made by my fair hands, but that is as good as it ever got. The idea of a group of people coming together and helping to make hats for premature babies is beautiful, and I bet that there are people up and down the country who do that very same thing.

The book is more than just about knitting though. There are numerous secondary plots running through the story too, all captivating and worked seamlessly alongside one another. The characters are all relatable. None are perfect, each had their own voice, and for me this made them very realistic.

The book was an utter joy to read, one I could just switch off from the real world and settle into a world where knitting was king. I was held to the pages of this heartwarming story. Not only is it a beautiful read, but it is poignant too. I’m glad that Dee finally understood that there is more to life than just work.

5 Words: Betrayal, knitting, family, friendship, ambition.

This book was absolutely delightful. It was heartfelt and inspiring.

Before reading this book I had never knitted in my life. Now I'm a knitting machine (kind of) and halfway through the super-long, super-soft scarf of my dreams. I'm nowhere near knitting woolly hats for premature babies, but that's my goal.

As soon as I saw the cover for this book I knew this was a must read! The cover is bold and really eye catching and makes you want to pick up the book and read it. The Woolly Hat Knitting Club is based on knitting and I really found the whole story something different from the normal sort of stories I have read before.
The characters are very easy to warm to and I really enjoyed the character ''Dee's'' story. When we first meet her she is a very busy workaholic that doesn't seem to have any social time to herself, then we see her go through a change and she spends more time with her family and friends and she really becomes a new woman. I loved how kind and caring she is and how much she turned her brothers business around.
The Woolly Hat Knitting Club is really fresh and modern and very enjoyable.

Poppy Dolan is back again with her new novel "The Woolly Hat Knitting Club", and even though knitting is totally not my thing (but I have other talents, really!), it IS Poppy Dolan's book and I requested it without hesitation - I fell in love with her books some time ago and I am incredibly happy that after a long break she's back with her second book this year - keep them coming, Poppy!

The story started very promising and engaging, with Dee being very suddenly being fired from her beloved job. Then I think it went a little downhill and slowed down a bit but I was still caught up in the novel and kept my fingers crossed for (almost) everybody. Dee has really gone on a journey of self - developing and finding her priorities, becoming a new person in short. She had a passion, when she did something she put all her heart into it and she loved her family. She didn't hesitate for a single moment to leave behind her life in London when her younger brother JP breaks both his wrists and needs help. Actually, this is where her new life starts - even if she doesn't know it yet herself! What we don't know about JP yet is that he's a knitter, runs a blog and the crafting gangs out there just love him. Dee doesn't knit. At all. But she's still there to help him, especially as after a chance encounter with her school friend Becky Dee realises they can help! So then we follow her, JP and some of their friends (and enemies) bringing the challenge to life.

I admit, I had some problems to get into the book. I mean, all this knitting, the structure and colours of the yarn, descriptions of needles or whatever the right name is, and generally, there was something keeping me back, but fortunately this overwhelming feel - good factor, the positivity and the wonderful message took over and I just simply started to enjoy this book. It was so warm that you just can't not like it, and I really am not sure what my problem was.

We see Dee changing, seeing there are other things that count in life than work, seeing different perspectives, and I enjoyed watching her realising all those things. I always like such characters that set their priorities right. Actually, all of the characters are really well drawn. They are down to earth, they have their battles and struggles and they really feel realistic. They play their parts well and there is enough personality in all of them to like them and fell for them, even though their futures are a little bit predictable.

"The woolly Hat Knitting Club" was a lovely story about realising the importance of a family and friends with a beautiful message in it, also touching upon issues that are so important but not often talked about such as premature babies. It is thoughtful but also light - hearted and easy to read, fun and poignant and I simply liked it. It was written in a lovely, warm way and actually, it was all I was expecting from this book. Recommended!

What a fabulous knit-tastic story and was a joy to read. Poppy Dolan has created the most delightful, charming, romcom that has left me with a wonderful warm cosy feeling. I want to wrap myself up in a rainbow coloured knitted blanket and read it all over again with a cuppa. This is my first introduction to the works of Poppy Dolan and I have absolutely no idea why it's taken me so long to read her work, such a gem of a writer.

Delilah (Dee) is a workaholic she thrives on the buzz surrounded by her very busy scheduling and fits in with the city life of London. However, when her younger brother, JP, sends a cry for help she has no hesitation of rushing to his needs. I loved this about Dee, even though she was so focused with her work her family means everything to her especially her brother who had suffered with his health in the past. Dee finds JP with two plaster casts on his arms after breaking his wrists. As he's totally immobilised Dee steps in and helps him run the knitting shop. However, during her call of family need Dee is unceremoniously fired from her prestige job. Dejected and totally mystified by this she returns back to the knitting shop pulling all her emotions into helping move JP's knitting shop into the crafting stratosphere. One of the highlights to the knitting shop is the great blog that JP set up which had a fabulous topical catchy name. JP was one of few male knitters and the crafting universe loved him. Following a chance encounter with one of Dee's old school friends, Becky, who had recently given birth prematurely to a little boy, Dee quickly realised that JP and his friends could help out her little baby boy by knitting tiny little hats for him. Tiny little knitted parcels soon started flocking into the shop overwhelming Dee with the generosity of the crafters. What started off as a small act of kindness spirals into an inspirational challenge of making more hats to widen this wonderful gesture to help more premature babies in need.

We follow Dee, JP and the ever growing circle of friends bringing this challenge into fruition. Obstacles are a plenty but the knitters will not give up.

Dee also hopes to get her career back on the right footing but helping her brother and the premature babies brings a different perspective to her life. What was once the thrill of the chase of her working life doesn't look quite as appealing anymore.

A gorgeous romcom that I simply didn't want to end. I feel quite uplifted and invigorated and want to cosy up with wonderful colours and textures. The perfect book to read on a cold day which will soon envelope you in a cosy cuddle of warmth.

This was my first audiobook in british english, and - let me tell you, it is as charming as you might be expecting!

I liked the originality of the story (I know as much about knitting as I know of quantic physics, which is zero), and reading the book through Dee's mind was a delight. She is sharp and quick, restless and creative, passionate in her area.

The marketing ideas, the buzz and endeavours of selling, blogging, solving problems... I find those really interesting. By far, what makes this book stand out from every other is the amalgamation of themes, and the innovative ways they clash.

As for everyone else besides Dee, I found them...cute. That's all. Cute. Romance was a bit underdevolped and overshadoed on my opinion, brought back to the background, altough the book was fun. I picked it mostly because I wanted a light romance, which ended up being exactly what I got. As original as it was, it didn't tug at any of my heartstrings much, but made me something of a fan of Poppy Dolan. I look forward to reading more books from Poppy!

When a book combines my love of reading AND knitting I get excited..

This is an hilarious and fabulous read and just the sort of pick me up you need for a soggy Autumn evening.

Dee, works hard..in fact work is all she does, she has no social life, (but if like her I co-owned a haberdashery, I don't think I would want to do anything else either) It is however her brother JP who is the knitting enthusiast and when he breaks both his wrists and she gets fired from her job in the city,  Dee steps in and takes over.

The Woolly Hat Knitting Club is all about finding a balance..something that most people find hard. A book about rediscovering what's important and combining your passions and commitments to make life fabulous.

Poppy Dolan has re-ignited my love for chick-lit. It is a special book, it's premature baby theme is very touching and every character offers a beautifully realistic look at life. It is also hilarious, and with all the knitting paraphernalia it was definitely THE book for me.

I just want to spend the rest of the year in my hand knitted blanket with a mug of hot chocolate and my knitting needles in hand, feeling blessed with my family.

Oh my goodness me this was a brilliant story and a gorgeous book and best of all it combined two of my favourite things for me reading and knitting!  The book is written really well and I loved the story - I thought that the characters were great and the different relationships and friendships really made the story come alive for me!

This book really touched me on a personal level too as my daughter was born on the 11th July this year and was taken straight to the Special Baby Care unit as she was very poorly where she was kept for 9 days - there were signs all over the unit saying "Keep Calm and Wear A Hat" - I had knitted a few hats to take in with me for Ava but have since knitted and donated some more hats to give back to the unit to help the next set of babies, it's the least I could do.  Every autumn I get my knitting needles out and this book really inspired me to look at some thing different, I make items to sell at craft fairs and now with Ava being here after reading this I'm even more inspired!! I've already told my mum this is a book she will love as she taught me to knit!

I've already purchased another of Poppy's books and looking forward to reading that and more future releases - she is most definitely an author for me to watch!  I thought this was a truly heart-warming read and have given it 5 stars!

What a wonderfully heartwarming story from Poppy Dolan. There are some very strong messages that I was getting from this book which I will explain in a moment. It is a very well written book touching on all manner of things from finding yourself after an unexpected sacking, love creeping up on you, premature babies and friendship.

One of the most important things I have gained from this book is a reawakened knowledge about premature babies, their chances of survival and just how little clothing is available for them, which is why what JP managed to do with his knitting blog and shop is so remarkable. He fired up the crafting community and lots of baby sized hats start to get knitted.

Actually that is putting it in far too basic terms but you get the idea. The other message I got from the book was just what an amazing thing the crafting community is, and how crafters are quite happy to help out for a good cause. That and just how relaxing knitting can be.

Dee was a workaholic until circumstances meant that she had to spend prolonged time in her brother's haberdashery. Watching her get to grips with crafting, find her place in the world without a high powered job and be surprisingly oblivious to the obvious was all rather charming to read.

What I also really loved where the descriptions of the craft convention Dee, JP and friends attend, not just for the fabulous stunt that JP pulled for publicity of the cause, but also for what Dee was finding at the other stalls which then lead to a hilarious scene involving an alpaca!

This is a fabulous book and don't let the words wooly hat in the title make you think this is just a wintery book, this is an all year around fabulous story that is well worth reading.

Thank you to Netgalley and Canelo for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

** I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own**

I love a knitty novel, and this cosy romance was sweet and a lot of fun. The protagonist got on my nerves a bit (first person narrative isn't my favourite, and there was so much business jargon) but once I settled into the story more it was fine. This had a pretty good level of knitty detail too.

I gave this on 3.5 stars

I loved the premise of the story and there were some promising moments but I found myself skim reading a lot and generally just waiting for something more to happen. The romance was not enough for me. Overall it was just lacking for me. I definitely enjoyed the second half more though so I'm glad I stuck with it.

More on Chill and read

I needed a feel good, light hearted book in my life and I found it on “The Woolly Hat Knitting Club” by Poppy Dolan. It was a book that I thoroughly enjoyed and I was glad to have the audiobook, as the narration by Lizzie Wofford really brought it to life!

Delilah, Dee to her friends and family, has a career that many people dream of. She has worked hard in order to achieve her goals, even though it meant she had to provide less and less hours to her friends and family. Because of her long hours and her smart brain and skills, she is very much admired and envied at her work environment. One day, during a customer meeting, she receives a strange message from her brother, asking her to return home because he needs her. Dee might be a business woman, but she values family above all, so she drops everything in the middle of the meeting and rushes to her home village of Fenwild, only to find her brother with two broken wrists!

JP is a crafter, a knitter actually that runs a knitting shop in Fenwild. With both his wrists broken, not only can he not mend for himself, but it’s his business that requires attention too. He cannot tend to his business all alone. He is not capable of doing most of the things needed in the everyday life of the shop. And not only that, but JP keeps a knitting blog called “About a (Knitting) Boy” and he also creates some YouTube videos and tutorials in order to help people learn how to knit or give any major updates on the shop and blog! Too many things that he cannot deal with at the moment.

Dee loves her brother and she is determined to do anything in her power to help him. One more reason to do so was that knitting started as therapy for JP, after his major breakdown while working long hours, just like his sister. Dee wants the knitting business to go great for her brother, so that he doesn’t have to go through another breakdown. This and the fact that she co-owns the place gives her all the motive she needs to help him and support his business. So she starts spending her time between her job at London and Fenwild. Being the perfectionist she is, she works even harder to get both ends delighted and successful. However, it seems that her work is not being highly appreciated anymore as on her return one day to London, she get’s fired due to mostly some rumours of inappropriate behavior. See is sure her colleague Ben is behind all this and she’s going to prove it.

Like I said in the beginning, this is exactly what I needed to read and Poppy Dolan definitely delivered a cute and lovely book! I loved reading about Dee. She was such a wonderful character! She values family so much that she would do anything for her brother. Even learning to knit, if that’s what it would take to keep him and his small business at the surface. She knows what a disappointment as big as having the business he loved go stray , would do to him and she was determined not to let that happen. Just because he could not use his hands to knit, or pretty much do anything else, didn’t mean that he would go out of business. That’s the kind of sibling love one can look upon to! Okay, she may have overreacted at some point, but she finally understood that she had crossed the line and stood back!

Also, I had no idea the crafting community could be so supportive, but you know what? They actually are, not just in the book! Crafters are people who want to share and support, they are people who love and care about others, especially those in need. And what Dolan did, to have a premature baby been born by one of Dee’s old friends, was really great! The reader understood what something like that means to a parent, while at the same time it came handy to the plot itself!

I really liked the narration by Lizzie Wofford. The story had only one view, Dee’s view, and she was incredible in bringing Dee to life. I could immediately understand Dee’s emotions and also, as well as how she understood world. Her voice is one of the best for audiobooks, especially when it’s about rom-coms and lovely books like this one!

Thanks to NetGalley and Saga Egmont Audio for the opportunity to listen and review this audiobook. The views expressed are my personal and honest opinion.

I saw the title of this book and wanted to read it. I am not a knitter, but my mother and grandmother were and several friends are as well. The story started very promising and engaging. When Dee gets a text message from her brother JP saying "come" she panics, leaves the meeting she is presenting at and heads home, not knowing what to expect. She finds her brother with two broken wrists and in casts that pretty much prevent him from doing anything related to his job of running the haberdashery (knitting store). Shortly after this, she very suddenly gets fired from her beloved job and heads home to help JP. At this point, the story slowed down and I kept waiting for it to pick up. Well it did and I am glad I kept reading. The story is really about Dee and how she remakes herself after this disaster. She never gives less than 100% in anything she does and that included helping with the store. JP is not only a knitter and store owner, but he runs a blog and does vlogs. She also runs into Becky, her BFF from school, who has just delivered a preemie and they rekindle their friendship. This is the second theme in this book where JP jumps on the idea of kitting hats for preemies and a fundraiser begins. When Ben, a co-worker searches out Dee, she finds out that her suspicions that he sabotaged her are unfounded. He jumps in to help with the fundraiser and the vlogs.

I really loved the characters in this story. From Dee, JP and Ben to the minor characters and others in the town, they are all honest, real and easy to like. There is a major plot twist that involves Dee and her friends that seals the story. I loved how Dee is able to drop everything to take care of her brother and make sure he is going to be okay in the future. I also love that she realizes that she needs to back off some times and let others follow their own path. There are a few budding romances and the added storylines about preemies and the value of keeping those friendships real and close make this a wonderful story. It was light-hearted and various parts were pretty funny. I recommend this book to lovers of chick-lit, whether you knit or not. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley.

Poppy Dolan is fast becoming my new favourite author. First up lets discuss this beautiful and colourful cover. It's bright and draws you in immediately. Add in the stripped awning and you're in love with the cover! I love the cute little woolly hats hanging up in the shop window and the small potted plants either side.

Now with the story itself ... I can't say much else other than I loved it! As soon as I saw the cover of the book I knew I just had to read it. The description was intriguing and I couldn't wait to find out what the story was all about. As the whole story is based around Dee, her brother JP and his knitting shop. It's a completely different kind of story to which you normally tend to read and for that I found it to be totally refreshing and so, so interesting.

The characters themselves are so easy to relate to and I found myself loving each and every one of them. There wasn't a character that I thought was a bit annoying, or a storyline that was a bit far fetched. It was light-hearted and easy to read. Exactly what you want from a Chick Lit novel.

Without giving too much away, the story revolves around Dee and her workaholic life. After she's fired, she heads back home to help JP run their knitting shop, and it's there that she bumps into old school friend Becky. Becky had just had a baby - but he was born weeks and weeks early so found it difficult to find clothes that fit him to keep him warm. This is where JP and Dee step in, they plan on raising awareness and knitting lots of baby hats to help premature babies around the UK.

However, along the way there is of course romance, humour and some drama too! Which makes for a very enjoyable read. I just found this story to be so heart-warming, especially because it's all based around a good cause and raising awareness for it.

Overall, I loved this story and I'm sure you will too! Thank you to the publisher for a chance to read this novel, which I have reviewed honestly.

I am not a knitter or a very good crafter, but I found this book to be a charming and cozy little read. Dee (Delilah) tells the story from her perspective which allows us to see her big and generous heart. She is full of good intentions while being a strong and compassionate woman who could move mountains if she wanted.

I found Dee to be the most developed character in the book. All the other characters are lovely and sweet, but not as three dimensional as Dee. To be honest, they all felt a bit static to me.

However, this lack of character development didn’t bother me too much since the story did what it intended. It is a gentle read meant for those days when all you want is something light and happy. When the world is too heavy, and all you want to do is escape into a happy place for a while, The Wooly Hat Knitting Club provides the perfect world to slip into. And the narrator of the audiobook is brilliant to listen to as well!

Thank you NetGalley for a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

My new favourite Poppy Dolan novel. I thought my fave would be The Bluebell Bunting Society which I adored, but Woolly Hat Knitting Club has now taken first place in my heart. Poppy writes the most gorgeous, full, relatable and vivid characters. I was so *in* the world of Dee and JP and Mags and Ben. And what a wonderful, heart-lifting place to be. I'd fervently recommend this book to people who are looking for something cosy and comforting without being saccharine or sappy. It's clever, heartfelt, witty, romantic and has got me googling for local knitting workshops! Loved it and wish there was a sequel I could read immediately.

What a gorgeous book. Dee was a high flyer who loses her job unexpectedly. She's been called to help her brother who has managed to break both of his wrists. He runs a wool shop and has a vlog where he has lots of followers. When Dee spends time in the shop her background has her thinking of plenty of ways to raise the profile of the shop and raise lots of money.
Spending time with her brother has a great effect on her- she realises that her family is very important to her and that her work had overtaken her life. She also catches up with an old friend who's just had a prem baby.
That brought back lots of memories of being in hospital with prem twins and feeling that they didn't really belong to me until we could take them out of the incubator.
I loved the charity drive to knit lots of little hats for them and the way it was organised you could imagine yourself there.
I loved all of the characters- plenty of family relationships, friendships, romance all wrapped up in a lovely heartwarming story.
It made me want to visit a lovely 'yarn shop' and buy enough wool to make a pretty project- but as I am the world's slowest knitter, I might be tempted to pass it on to my mum.

A very enjoyable feel-good book (although it made me cry too).
I liked the growth of the main character Dee, her relationship with her brother and there are some great side characters too.
If you want to read about romance there is some but not a lot, but if you want to read about finding balance in your life with a they lived happily ever after this is your book.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Oke dit was schattig. Niet zo zoet en romantisch als je door de cover zou denken, maar dat vond ik juist leuk. Op en top Brits en hartverwarmend. En nu wil ik leren breien!

I'd like to thank Saga Egmont Audio and NetGalley for sending me the audiobook of The Woolly Hat Knitting Club in exchange for an honest review.

The Woolly Hat Knitting Club is heartwarming tale of familial love, friendship and trying to be the best version of yourself as you possibly can be.

Going into this book, I thought that I'd read another romance novel with a few different elements than I'm used to. Actually, there was no hint of anything remotely romantic for the first 60% of the book.

The narrator was perfect for the book and I thoroughly enjoyed all of the voices that she did. Consuming this book in an audiobook format only improved the experience.

The Woolly Hat Knitting Club follows the story of Delilah who is not only trying to navigate a very male dominated industry, she's the best at her job. She works twelve hours a day and she loves it. But is she really happy?

When something unfortunate happens to her, she has to spend more time with her brother and help him with his knitting club.
She rekindles an old friendship with a woman who has a premature baby and is having an incredibly hard time in her life.

Getting out of the office DeeDee finally realizes what is important in life: her younger brother, her friends, doing something for a good cause.

Plus, when we do get to the romance part it is slow burn and enemies to lovers! And when I say slow burn, I mean reallyyyyy sloooooooooow.

If you want something warm and cozy, this is the perfect book for you.

TWG and knitting do not go hand in hand. I'm more likely to tie myself in a knot with the wool instead of knitting with it (and no, not in the kinky way either). I used to knit...a very long time ago, but I expected one of those Jean Greenhowe doll patterns to be completed a lot quicker than it actually was. Granted I was eight, but that's not the point. As an avid reader, I have only read one other book which has knitting as its theme...surprisingly! As soon as I saw Poppy Dolan's new novel I was rather eager to let myself loose into the knowledge of, er, purl stitch and such. Well, that and it looked so much fun.

To be perfectly honest, I really didn't know what I was expecting 'The Woolly Hat Knitting Club' to entail (apart from the obvious), yet I was still rather surprised when the 'drama' bells rang within the storyline after several pages. I rubbed my hands together with glee thinking that I was in for a bumpy ride....and it was two broken wrists. TWO BROKEN WRISTS. I never knew knitting was such a dangerous sport! I jest....kinda. I will probably sound mean now, but as soon as the two broken wrists became part of the storyline in great detail, I couldn't help but giggle. I could just imagine two arms stuck out like a snowman. Let me just say that if it happened to me, I wouldn't be laughing, but it was just the way it was described in the storyline that made me chuckle.

Whilst I hoped I would laugh, I never expected to feel tears prick my eyes when the storyline went from jokey, to incredibly serious. Reader, it gave me all the feels and I'm not even joking. Two words - premature babies. That's all I'm saying (it's in the blurb so I won't get told off). For me personally, the direction in which the storyline took after the emotional scene made the entire novel go up several notches. Instead of it just being about knitting and broken wrists; the storyline started to have meaning and incredible depth.

Now, as I admitted at the start of this novel - I am not a knitter. However, after reading about the woolly hats for premature babies, I have decided to re-learn how to knit and get some premature baby hats knitted for my local area. That whole situation hit home for many, many personal reasons and thanks to Poppy Dolan, I am actually going to give something back. Without the author's important message in her storyline, I wouldn't have been given the kick up the backside.

I thoroughly enjoyed 'The Woolly Hat Knitting Club' as it was cleverly written and so unique. That said, I couldn't really work out what the issue with Dee was later on in the book, I didn't see an issue in her actions so I became a little confused by her brothers reactions. Maybe that's just me I don't know!

The highlight of Poppy Dolan's novel (aside from the hats), was the 90's references. I laughed out loud to several of the band names, even re-reading a previous page to see whether what I read was actually what I read! Absolutely brilliant.

All in all, 'The Woolly Hat Knitting Club' is a feel good novel which is guaranteed to make you giggle, whilst also preparing you for world dominance - knitting style. A perfect paced read from start to finish; Poppy Dolan has written a storyline with a heart of gold and never-ending hugs. The perfect pick me up book.

Thanks Canelo,
