All my life I've never fit in. Since the accident, I went from foster home to foster home until I just ran away. I thought life would always be like that. Scraping by, barely living. That is, until I was chosen.
The Ravanas saved me. They brought me to The Fort so I could become a part of their world. Wanted. Secure. Training to be their human guardian was the only way they could let me in. Except, it's also the most dangerous. Now, we all have enemies--even me. Together, we must fight to keep the bond between us, or lose the most precious gift I've ever received.
Chosen By Darkness is the first novel in the Ravana Clan Vampires Series. It includes Books 1-5 in the Chosen By Darkness: Ravana Clan Vampire Serial.
E. M. Moore is a USA Today Bestselling author of Contemporary and Paranormal Romance. She's drawn to write within the teen and college-aged years where her characters get knocked on their asses, torn inside out, and put back together again by their first loves. Whether it's in a fantastical setting where human guards protect the creatures of the night or a realistic high school backdrop where social cliques rule the halls, the emotions are the same. Dark. Twisty. Angsty. Raw.

My biggest issue is none. of. my. questions. were. answered. NONE!
Why, why, and so many whys!
Why Ariana? Why doesn't it matter if she isn't the strongest? Why do they trust her so much? Why is she most fit for the job when at the end of the day there are better options than her? Why do they care so much about her? Why are they so drawn to her? What's going on? Why do the Ravana parents accept her right away even though we're told they probably wouldn't approve?
And the worst part is, Ariana demands answers but she's told "later" or "when you're ready" or "we didn't want to scare you away, we'll tell you everything" except... they don't tell her everything? Like, I wouldn't have minded had they told her ONCE that they'd tell her everything when she's ready. However, when I as a reader am being promised answers in every other chapter yet I finish the book with no answers + even more questions than I previously had... it's frustrating. Nothing makes sense. I ain't buyin'.
Very enjoyable story. I would like to see how they end up figuring out how to be together and how the guys decided on her. The baby issue was sad and could have been so much less with more conversation.
I think this is going to be a very interesting serial. Humans are charged with guarding vampires. There's a whole training camp for this and most people in the camp have been born and raised just for this reason. Our main character is the exception. She's been chosen by the Ravana's. I really enjoyed this first part and can't wait for the next one. And YES this is a SERIAL! DO NOT READ IT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ SERIALS!! It clearly says it will be released together as a whole in October so wait until then.
Honestly I didn't like this story at all. Ariana gets kidnapped the first thing she hears is they probably want to hurt her and she only makes one pathetic attempt to escape. After that she just throws herself into training and trying to be the best. Then after she meets the guys who maybe want to hurt her she just believes what they say and is lusting after them. Sorry not for me.
Ariana has been taken from the life that she’s known since the accident that took her family from her and forced her into the foster system that she abhorred. You won’t find her complaining though about the circumstances she finds herself in. She’s been brought to a place called The Fort. She is expected to train, get stronger, faster and become the top trainee to protect the four princes who have chosen her to be their guard. The odds are not totally in her favor. Her arrival causes a shake-up within the trainees as one in particular views her as a threat and is intent on destroying her. Ariana is getting a crash course in the vampire world and what it all will mean for her and the princes who desire her. Chosen By Darkness by E.M. Moore is the first book that I have read by this author. This is an enjoyable novel and has some good elements to it. Ariana is an interesting character. She’s flawed but I can work with some of them. She struggles with the nightmares that have returned of the night she lost her family. She also struggles with a fear of vehicles as well, but she handles it well. I applaud her resilience when she is faced with her training. She struggles, but she pushes herself to get better, faster and stronger to prove that she’s worth having there and that these princes who have chosen her didn’t do so by mistake. This story has some depth to it, but I feel that some of it gets lost and/or pushed to the side for the romance angle. The author fills the reader in here and there with some background on the vampires, their world and rules but I wanted more and felt that the story could have benefited from more as well. There are some editorial issues in this story as well. There are misspelled words here and there that need correcting. The romance happens too quickly for me. There isn’t any foundation or really any foreshadowing of attraction between the characters before it’s thrown at us. It just seems like one minute Ariana is training, the princes come to observe and then suddenly they are spending time with her and calling her “babe” and talking about having feelings for her. Also, why do the VAMPIRES need HUMAN guards? I don't get this to be honest. The vampires are stronger, faster and better equipped to handle any situation on their own compared to a human so this feels strange to me. I also didn't like how...I don't want to say "weak" she becomes but she goes from being good on her own to being this needy chick who wants their attention all the time. I just feel like there are developmental stages missed in this story. I say these things, but I enjoyed the story for the most part. I'm honestly hoping that she redevelops into who she was BEFORE she essentially turns into putty for four vampires males. This story has a lot of potentials but I need it to come together better and truly mesh. The storyline has a lot of good points and interesting elements that help draw me back into the story when it gets dull, so I'm holding out hope for the next book in this series. I am rating this book 4 out of 5 stars. It's a flawed story, but there is potential for this series to be truly engaging and good. Wow this was definitely not what I expected but I was pleasantly surprised it was very good I like the story between Ariana Christian Nicolai Stephan and Connor Ariana had a really terrible tragedy when she was younger she ended up going from one foster home to another and she was very sad and lonely and she was just barely existing she had to work two part-time jobs and just barely have enough to eat or a place to sleep she in a terrible little apartment and she was having terrible dream so she would get up every night and go run try to not think about the terrible dream she would have at night she went for a jog one night and on her way home that's when she was kidnapped and told she was going to be a vampire regard and she was supposed to protect 4 princes of vampire Royalties i forward to the next book to see how they decide they're going to be together and how they chose her in the first place this was a very good action packed loving book this was definitely a very good book I've thoroughly enjoyed it

I have to say this book will really keep your attention from the very first page. From there the story just keeps evolving to the point that just when you think you have it figured out it proves you wrong. Mixed in between are vampires, steam, and lots of action. The incredible world building is really just the cherry on top. I highly recommend it to fans of vampire RH novels. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
Chosen by Darkness had a strong start. The writing style was promising, the main character believable, and the suspense and emotions on the pages were detailed and clear. And then the main character, Ariana, gets kidnaped and things begin to happen; the action starts and the book slides into YA territory.
Now, I completely blame myself for not realising that it was going to be a YA read. The first chapter or two made it feel like Ariana was more life experienced and mature but, once the Ravana Princes come into the scene, Ariana turns into a young girl besotted with the vamps and we lose much of the suspense and wider emotions (I want him, and him, and him, and him... but oh god, it’s not allowed yada yada).
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed Moore’s writing style and there were very few mistakes (yay), but I was glad when I turned the last page. There were a few things that I felt could of been explained better (or even explained a little bit). Like: why did the Ravana Princes want Ariana to be their guard, and why do vampires even need human guards, and (this one just plain annoyed me) how did a human - yes, I know they had training but still there’s such a thing as the human condition and human limitations - even manage to get one over a vampire??? The vamps were previously described as being able to be so quick that they were a ‘blur of movement’, and yet a human was able to move quicker than them (whaat... I can’t even).
I am not one to compare books, and I always try to go into a book with no expectations, but the similarities between this book and the Vampire Academy series wouldn’t stop popping up in the back of my mind while I was reading - which is actually really annoying. But it was a quick and enjoyable enough read, and I’m sure things will be explained better further in the series; unfortunately I won’t be picking up the next book anytime soon to find out.
If you like vampires, academy/training/school settings, reverse harems, and forbidden love, then you might like Chosen by Darkness as it’s really not a bad book; it just did not do it for me.
Look at that my very first serial. I wonder if there's a section of my baby book where I can commemorate this moment...
Anyways. I'm not exactly sure how I'm feeling about this considering you legit only get a small taste of the story, like barely a flavor. As this is my first serial, I can only assume that's par for the course. With this in mind, I'm going to hold off on any star rating until I get more into the story. Stay tuned, folks.
Pleasant suspenseful buildup without overwhelming character descriptions. The banter alone feeds a lot of the information on the characters to you in an entertaining way. I am left wanting to read more!
I'm glad I read the first book instead of the serial. The begining was really weird and I probably wouldn't have stick around. But I did and it was a pretty nice read. Arianna and her princes relationship is really sweet.
I really liked Ariana’s character. She was feisty and spunky and loads of other positive words that end in “ky”, My only issue with her throughout the books is that she immediately gives in to being a guard. Just, immediately gives up her life after a very brief attempt to escape. I feel that in reality the character wouldn’t have given in so easily, just based on how she behaves throughout the rest of the book.
Another aspect I had a bit of trouble wrapping my head around is why exactly do the vampires need humans as guards? I mean, I get that that there’s a whole class system going on but wouldn’t just make look vampires look weak that they have to be protected by the supposed “lower class”?
Besides those initial issues I had with the story, I loved everything else. It’s very reminiscent of the Vampire Academy series, only with human guards instead and set up as a reverse harem. The storyline is fairly solid, and the characters are really well developed. The vampire princes are unique enough that they don’t all just blur together, personality enough.
I really recommend this book, and I definitely plan on continuing on with the series!
Like me a lot of you might think that as great as the Vampire stories are, it’s all a bit “been there, read that” by now. Well at least that’s how I felt when I was recommended this series about the Ravana Vampires, yet another late teen/beginning of twenties story. However, let me tell you just how wrong I was! E.M Moore’s take is not only different, it’s heartfelt and you really do fall in love with each of the characters!
This book is about a human who’s being kidnapped and thrown right in the middle of the supernatural world, that she knew nothing about. She’s been “summoned” by the 4 Ravana princes, who wants her as their guard, and thus begins not only her physical training, but also the mental as more and more gets revealed about this new world.
I’m absolutely in love with this book, and had a hard time putting it down (bye, bye sleep!), now excuse me whilst I get some coffee and continue on the second book :D
So.... what’s going on??? This vampire centric slow burn RH takes the general mythos and throws enough political machinations and twisted world building to make it stand alone... though I still have no clue what’s happening. First person, single POV, we are thrown into Arianna’s confusion, learning about this new world as she does. She’s been chosen to become the four vampire princes guard - because apparently humans guard vampires. Why? No clue. Why was she chosen? Again, no clue. And why does it seem like the Princes know her from before her inglorious kidnapping and subsequent introduction to the guard training Fort? ..... yeah, no clue.
Pros: - Interesting - There is a sweetness here. - The mystery is will keep you reading, if frustrated. - HFN.
Cons: - Too readily accepting of new world. Seriously?? - WHAT IS GOING ON?? - honestly.... what is happening here?
I liked the heroes and the heroine was well drawn enough to identify with easily, but I’m not as big a fan of vampires as I am other paranormal sub genres (personal preference). Don't let that deter you though if you are a fan. This one has promise.
My biggest beef - serials. UGH! At least they are all bundled here, but it is still too short. Not enough depth to the story and characters, things get wrapped up too quickly/pat-ly. But even more importantly, the story is often choppy since it is broken into very short installments. I usually find that the compilation of all the pieces of the serial then needs a strong edit to make it a polished/complete novel.
Unlikely to wait around for the installments in the second “book” in the series.
So to see a human come and somehow capture the hearts of these princes is quite enticing. They all try to be friends and not test the limits but soon the pull they have to each other overtakes and consumes them. They can't seem to be able to be away from one another. I like how she also proves herself as good as anyone else in her class. She stands up for herself and it is commendable. And the way the princes come for her when she is kidnapped and defend her is so awesome! They love each other even though they really aren't supposed to! They are making their own rules and not letting others influence their decisions! I love it! Can't wait to see what happens next!

I really enjoyed this book. It's about what I call "soft vampires". They have a community and laws and have humans to protect them kinda like Vampire Academy. In this series Ariana is a human who gets abducted from her miserable human life and is chosen to become a guardian to protect vampires. The 4 brother vampire princes that set up her abduction want her as their guardian. This book is about them getting to know each other and about her training. This series is a teen friendly RH (at least so far). The characters are all likable and you even get to feel for the "villain". I just finished and am grabbing book 2. I'll probably binge read the whole thing.
This book started off just a tad slow for me but once into the book and the boys were in the picture it took Way Off! The story is AMAZING! Love the characters and interesting perspective take with vampires and there human body guards. You need to read this book if RH fan. Then go on and start reading the next serials because the story just keeps getting better and better!
Why? That is the only question I have after reading this book. Why do princes want Ariana as their guard? I assume this will be answered later, but I could not understand their reasoning so it should have been answered in this book. There are certain hints but no outright answer and, what is even more mind boggling, Ariana does not question this either.
I really enjoyed this book, both for the character development, plot and great writing style.
Ariana is taken from her normal human life and put in a school to become the guardian of some handsome vampires. She gets a new chance in life and a meaning to her existence. But what is shouldn’t forget is that the vampire princess she will be protecting are off limits. Falling in love would cost her dearly. But can all of them resist the attraction? Or will they be able to change traditions that have been established for a long time.
Holy cow, I'm in love! Definitely a great book to pick up! So many twists and turns that were totally unexpected! Ariana a girl who had absolutely nothing suddenly finds herself thrown into a different kind of family, where she will experience friendship that she's never had before. Along with danger......
She was a forgotten girl until four handsome vampires who tell Her she is be their. She is trained to protect them. Anyone will be angry at this but not her. She wi!l do anything and everything in her power to protect all of them. Will she keep them.all.safe? Follow her as she tries

A young woman without family or friends has been picked by influential vampire clan to be their guardian. Why her,? That is something to uncover. Well written book with a good plot full of action. Well created reality and background.

What's not to love about this book? It was intriguing, the book contained sexy vampires...oh, excuse me...sexy, royal vampires, a young woman who is clueless to all of it and it's a reverse harem book. The author created a pretty great plotline which plays out over the course of the book and I was engaged to the end. Well written and well developed characters gave me a pleasurable read.
Having read other works by this author I was not sure what to expect with this one. I was pleasantly surprised as it is well written, has an actual plot and spends a lot of time both developing interesting characters and with creative world building. Worth reading on all levels.

A lot of questions left open on this one. It was enjoyable and the story flowed smooth enough. I will be reading the next one to find out what happens. At the moment it doesn’t feel like the group has much distinction other than the healer and Nic. I like how smooth the relationship progresses with no one acknowledging what’s happening. Not quite a 4 but close. Fingers crossed for character development and romance in the next one.
Its good want to read next one. Its good but it also seems like it is missing something. Not sure almost like it's not enough meat on the bones. But like I said its good enough I'm going to read on.
