This book reads like Krypton meets Star Wars without the Ewoks and scores an effortless 5 cosmic stars.
"The old man wore a long robe, as did most people in Tigris to protect themselves from the harsh sun. He spoke of the Cheros Khifan being born twice, and that captured her attention.
In his first incarnation the Cheros Khifan had been the son of a king and a beautiful queen. To make him strong, the queen pierced his heart with a dagger of ice until it broke in two. After ten days of a mighty battle against his own world, his heart of love led him to sacrifice himself for the city in the sky. His dead body was covered by a giant bird for one hundred days. When the bird took off, it left an egg, from which the Cheros Khifan was born again. He emerged naked, and the two hearts burned in his chest for all to see: a white heart of purity and grace, a red heart of rage."
The story is part of a series of science fiction books that are both epic in scope and poetic in its content about an uninhabited heroine and lengths she would go to preserve the life of the man that has to die to save worlds.

Loved this sequel. It’s a darker book as the author promised and it has romance and then intrigue at the beginning. Then the pace picks up, leading to a fantastic and completely unexpected climax. Talk about dangerous prophecies. Less humor than in the first book, but the tone suits the book and there are still some laughs and carefree moments. And Gaius is sexier...
The way it ends and leads into the next book is very promising, I think it will be another original tale from this writer...

With Emperor, Ms. Meare has added to her fascinating universe filled with interesting worlds and likable characters. The sequel is darker and more intense, dealing with serious emotional issues, more political intrigue, and a startling threat of war. I can't shout loud enough how much I LOVE the Chronicles of Cael. I am anxiously awaiting the last novel in this trilogy. Like checking Amazon weekly and chanting, "Publish! Publish!! Publish!!!"
