The fourth and final book of a dark and sexy fantasy series by International Bestselling Author, Erin Bedford.
Sometimes death is just the beginning.
Just when Kat thought it was over, a cryptic message from the beyond has her right back in the thick of things.
A little blood and a few words, it was supposed to be a fix all and it shouldn't have ended this way. Kat's new position as moderator will have to wait, the Shadow Realm was calling and it was time to end it for once and for all.
A final showdown will have everyone putting their cards on the table and not even the Reaper can stop Kat now.
Erin Bedford is an otaku, recovering coffee addict, and Legend of Zelda fanatic. Her brain is so full of stories that need to be told that she must get them out or explode into a million screaming chibis. Obsessed with fairy tales and bad boys, she hasn’t found a story she can’t twist to match her deviant mind full of innuendos, snarky humor, and dream guys.
On the outside, she’s a work from home mom and bookbinger. One the inside, she’s a thirteen-year-old boy screaming to get out and tell you the pervy joke they found online. As an ex-computer programmer, she dreams of one day combining her love for writing and college credits to make the ultimate video game!
Until then, when she’s not writing, Erin is devouring as many books as possible on her quest to have the biggest book gut of all time. She’s written over thirty books, ranging from paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and even scifi romance.
Also, third person is really weird when writing about yourself. Just putting that out there.
I was so excited to read this final book in the series, and I don't know if it had just been too long since I'd read the other books or what, but I had a hard time dragging myself to the end of this one. It didn't help that there were a bunch of word mixup typos (then vs than, staring vs starring, conscious vs conscience or subconscious, etc), and some of them were especially distracting as it took several reads to figure out the intended meaning. But mostly, I found that by the time I was a quarter of the way through the book I didn't particularly care what happened to the main characters, and by the end I didn't get much satisfactory closure for the peripheral characters. So... meh.
I had been looking forward to this coming out after I read the previous books in the series and while I had thoroughly enjoyed the previous 3 books, this one fell short of the mark. It felt flat, and had none of the emotion the others did.
When I started this series I mostly fell in love with Wonderland. Combining the familiar tale of all those curious creatures and their curious world with the world of the fae felt perfect. While reading the first few novalla's I didn't fully understand the plot, but now that I read the last book in the series currently out now, I also know what has been happening and why the world is the way it is.
In this book we got to see the last little part of the world we hadn't seen yet. The Shadow Realm, the realm where faeries are sent when they did something wrong and where the dead are guided towards their last resting place. Of course, it's not as magical as Wonderland and the Fae courts, but it was nice to explore and it felt fitting for the kind of world it was supposed to be and the kind of function it was supposed to have in the story.
What I also really enjoyed is the two point of views that we got in this book. We had Kat, desperately trying to move on and then desperately trying to reach her mate as soon as she discovered he was alive. And we had Chess, who was stuck in the Shadow Realm, constantly staring at the love of his life without her seeing him and without her knowing that he's still there. They both have their own journey and demons to face, although in this book it's especially Chess needing to find his inner strength and get past old grudges.
The book is a really satisfying end to the story of Kat and her Cat. However, there is clearly a lot happening in our world, with Fae flooding our realm and the leaders of our nations being afraid of what all those creatures can do. I'd love to read more about this part of the story, but since Alice is in charge of leading these people and being their spokesperson, I'm fairly sure that we get to see this part of the world and story in her series. I can't wait.
I am sorry that this series has come to an end as it has been quite the ride. With a fab twist on wonderland & some great characters, this well written book will hook you from the start. I do recommend that you start at the beginning of the series though as it is a great series & is too good to miss! A great end to a great series.
Chasing Shadows is the conclusion to Kat's story. In this book we get questions answered and the storyline is tied up in a twisted little bow. I definitely recommend this book and this series to everyone who loves twisted fairytales. I look forward to reading more books by this author in the future. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
'Chasing Shadows' is the culmination of the entire story line and I really must say that it wasn't is as good as it could have been. Everyone knows that Kat needs to save Chess and defeat the Shadows and there is a final fight but it's not what I expected.
The PoV jumps back and forth from Kat to Chess pretty much every chapter so that can get a little nerve grating. Basically all that happens in the book is that the two lovebirds search for each other and try to defeat the evil shadows.
I was hoping for a grand finale that would be amazing but I just found the book to be lack luster which is a shame because the series started out so strong. A grand portion of this is reading about the characters inner turmoil which is important to the story but I don't need to know about it constantly.
I find that so many things in this book were unresolved and just left open ended. Now I am not sure if that is because of lazy writing or if Bedford wants to do a spin off series with Dorian but if that is so I don't know if I'll read it.
The dramatics in writing style seem to be over the top and take up most of the book. The plot doesn't really progress far at all, its more like baby steps to the finish line. Sadness, heartbreak, angst, hope, eye roll, stupidity, and then BOOM! The predictable end.
It's really all emotions with just the minimal amount of surrounding description. Don't get me wrong, I normally like to see the internal conflict of characters but when it takes up most of the book then it is just way too much.
There was so much that could have been done to make the ending awesome but it just didn't happen. I am really sad to say that because the first two books blew me away with their uniqueness. I could even look past Kat acting like an irritating little twat with her eye rolling because the writing was so good and fresh.
However none of that initial spark ignited in book four. We get the bare minimum of story telling and that's that. There are some secrets that get revealed and we get to know how everything comes together but by the time it got to that point I felt it was rushed as I was inundated with so much info. I feel that it should have happened at a slower pace throughout the story so we could wonder at the mystery.
I use to have a favorite character in the series but now after reading this book I don't really have a favorite at all. Not to mention that there is no sign of Mop or Trip which is sad because they are such cool characters. They didn't make much of an appearance if any at all in the last book either. Looking back on it now though perhaps I can say that Mop and Trip are my favorites.
I was initially excited to start reading this but when I finished it I felt deflated and jipped. Instead of adding more interesting stuff to her book to make it more appealing Bedford chose to skip potentially critical plot weaving in lieu of big text and really big word spacing.
Now I am not a writer but I have to wonder if they get paid more for a certain number of pages which is the only reason I can fathom why the writing had such freakin' huge spaces. And don't even get me started on all the grammatical errors. I don't fancy myself a grammar Nazi and I can accept a few errors here and there but my god! There was way more than a handful of errors and it really made me think that this book had no editor at all.
What a depressing way to end such a promising series. I will check out Bedford's other books the 'Fairy Tale Bad Boys' and see how that goes. I know that she can write a story I just don't think she is good at keeping one going for so long or when dealing with endings. Perhaps she had a deadline and that's why the ending didn't come out too great? Who knows!
Even though my spirit was crushed I will try to remain optimistic for her other series and hope that perhaps she is just better at writing and wrapping up a singular book. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
The final novel in the Underground series is another fast-paced read which manages to neatly wrap up most of the hanging threads from the third book but leads onto a sequel series. Chasing Shadows splits the viewpoint between Kat and Cheshire so each of them gets around half of the chapters, but I would have personally liked more variation between their narrative voices. Neither of them tend to mince their words and they both have fairly bold personalities but I felt their POVs seemed remarkably similar and would have liked them to stand out from one another a little more.
Kat's response to initially believing Chess is dead was very well-written and convincing, and I really did want them to find one another again.
It was good to see Chess's self-validation over the course of this story, since we discovered over the last couple of books how poorly he'd been treated due to the circumstances of his birth. It was easy, in the first book, to believe that he was a one-dimensional character and rather shallow, but the explanations of how he came to be born and why he ended up the way he did were enjoyable and well-written. His development, I think, was probably the best in the series. I would have liked to know what happened to his mother, but perhaps we'll find out in Shadow Chaser. I also, once again, would have liked more detail in how the arrival of the fae affected the human world, or how Kat's mother responded to the discovery that her daughter was a fae princess, but I guess the focus was intended to be mainly on the Underground and the viewpoint characters.
Overall, an enjoyable read and a satisfying conclusion with some unique characters and great development. Recommended!
I bought this book discounted on Amazon in the intent of reading it one day; then I received a copy from BookSprout; this is my honest review. -This book was kind of a let-down. Many questions were answered in a "rush-rush to the end" style and I didn't like it. I'm not even sure it answered all the questions I had in the previous books, and frankly if it did answer them, I wouldn't remember the context of it. What there a plot somewhere? -There is still no final end to this story!! The shadows are still at large! There is no HFN and absolutely no HEA. Although there is a lot of drama and angst and many inner thoughts, which were becoming boring to no end, the story-line was all over the place with no bridge in between. -The editing was so embarrassing I was getting irritated just by reading all the typos, wrong words (what/why, luck/lucky, not/now, then/than...), apostrophes here, there and everywhere, mostly where they don't belong. -The Fae registration reminded me of the Catholic inquisition. This is dangerous. I had to high-five Kat, though, because it was the first time she publicly included herself with the fae people (track of us). -Not my favorite; wouldn't recommend reading.
Kat is mourning the lose of Chess. The people of fae have made a memorial for him. Kat moves forward with her life the best she can. She is trying to deal with her mother's demands in fae. Kat is also dealing with what is going on in the human realm. Some has let everyone know she is the missing seelie princess. So there is always a demand on her. Kat has a surprise visit from Mab, she tells her that Chess and Dorian are alive. Kat doesn't believe her. Kat gets a message as she is spending the night in the Chess's House. She can't believe what she is seeing. She knows the person she has to see. She will learn how the shadows have gotten loose. Kat will go into the shadow realm to get Chess and Dorian, she will run into trouble. You will also see some characters that are attached to Alice, they just don't know it. It will be Chess that helps Dorian.
This was an interesting ending to the series, the author leaves it open for Dorian, The Reaper and so much more. You will find this entertaining.

First off I loved reading Chasing Shadows... It picks where book 3 leaves off with Chess being in the Shadowland and Kat in the human world thinking that Chess is dead. With Prince Dorian lost in the Shadowland too. It has been 6 human months that Chess has been gone and Kat is beside herself. She feels like her heart is ripped into with out Chess by her side. How is a girl to feel... Heartbroken ? Lost? So what does Kat do? And while Chess is in the Shadowland trying to find a way to get out and back to Kat he runs into somebody that he thought he would see again. Who is this mystery person? And what does he tell Chess? What things does Chess learn? For the answer to the questions you need to read the book of Chasing Shadows. This book is a page turner... once you start reading you won't be able to put it down... once you read the first page you will want to go to the next until you get to the end of the book... Happy reading now...
Her enemies are ready for the final showdown. Can our heroine harness her newfound abilities and rally her allies to meet the threat?
This is book four of the series and the conclusion of this storyline. I recommend starting at the beginning so that you understand the situation.
This is a fantasy story which revisits the classic Wonderland setting, not a retelling of the original story. Some of the setting and characters may see familiar, but they have changed making this story new and all on its own. The story is well written, easy to read and very engaging. The setting and characters continue to grow and change, providing new revelations and challenges for our heroine. I really like the sense of growth exhibited throughout the series as it helped produce an evolving story instead of a stagnant repetition of previous events. Overall, an excellent conclusion to the series.
Highly recommended.

This last book just fell kinda flat. Erin Bedftord has quite an imagination. I only wish this last book would have had a little more feeling in it as the previous books had. Yea there was grieving by Kat for Chess but it was just not that angst filled as I was expecting. Although this book answered a lot of questions that the previous books left hanging, it just felt flat. At the end of the book there was a note that mentioned a fifth book forthcoming which will tell the parts of the story that we didn't get to in this round. I will probably read it mostly out of curiosity but I don't seem to have the anticipation I felt with the previous books. Also, I was kind of put off by Kat's overuse of the F word. After awhile it just made me cringe. To me it just indicated a lack of creativity with the English language.
The finale of this series disappointed me. It needs an editor. While the other books had the odd error, this one has many that are jarring. I wish I had saved examples of some of them. Also parts of this story felt rushed and was mostly made up of stating what the characters were feeling. I did not feel as connected to anyone. The writing was lacking, too much I feel this, I miss him, I am devestated, not enough plot progression. This book had switching points of view between Kat and Chess and while I understand the need to see what was going on in the shadows versus what was happening everywhere else, I did not love it. Many story lines seemed incomplete, like the author was attempting to set up a spin off series. I cannot say that it was all bad as some interesting things were thrown in but it was such a weak end to a series I really enjoyed.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
I really enjoyed this series though I felt it ended rather abruptly. Based on the fact it says that it's "for adults" I was afraid it would be erotica with a little story thrown in, but it's not. It is lusty in some parts, but that is definitely second to the actual story. I enjoyed the spunky characters and the new view into Wonderland. I didn't expect things to go the way they did most of the time, and that is always a good thing. The world Ms. Bedford created was fun, and full of danger. I felt for Kat and shared her worries and victories. I would recommend this to fans of fantasy and romance that are tired of reading about 17 year-olds.
As The Underground series comes to an end with Chasing Shadows, I can only hope that there will be more stories involving the other characters in the future. I enjoyed reading the whole series. The creation of a world much like Wonderland, only not. The characters brought the story to life.
Months have passed since Chess’ death. Kat can’t seem to pull herself out of mourning. But what happens when your ex’s mom shows up to inform you neither Chess nor Dorian are dead but stuck in the Shadow Realm. Will Kat overcome her doubts and save them both? I voluntarily reviewed Chasing Shadows as an advanced copy from the author. 4.5/5
If you are a fan of reimaginings of any type, but especially if you are a fan of Alice, you will not be disappointed! These books had me hook, line and sinker! Bedford's tale of "Wonderland" is great story with thoughtful and comprehensive world and character building. Action packed and fast paced, I never felt the stories lag or lost interest. Kat is compelling and relatable and her friends are and loyal and loveable (and the boys are especially yummy...) making for great interactions and dialogue. In short absolute must reads!
This is the last book in the series and it doesn't disappoint. It has been six months since the events of book 3 and Kat is trying to get her life back together. But 2 men arriving on her doorstep and then a mysterious message on her mirror bring her back into the thick of the action. I don't want to say much more as this is the last in the series and i don't want to give anything away. All of our favorite characters are back and once again Erin Bedford was able to draw me into the world of The Underground. Another well written book that i just didn't want to end.
Another fantastic book to the series! The author once again takes you on an adventurous ride while reading this entertaining story. She brings strong characters and had me glued to the pages with all the suspense and twists and turns. You have questions answered from all the mysteries throughout. She brings the story to life with her detailed and descriptive writing and delivers another great book to the series! I would highly recommend this book/series.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Great and interesting take on Alice In Wonderland; well written with interesting characters and a well built world.
While reading the first few books I’ll admit that I didn't fully understand the plot. However, after reading this book, I now understand what has been happening and why the world is the way it is. We get to see more of The Shadowlands … how will this all end?
Looking forward to the next book ❣

Now we find out how this strange and fascinating Wonderland works and just what Alice fell into down that Rabbit Hole! A long journey - nooks 2 and 3 could have been shorter true but this one makes up for them. all is revealed but I suspect there is still more to say. Kat however and Alice find out their roles and as for Cheshire - my absolute favourite Cat - he is still wonderful and as for his tail - well words fail me.
It has been quite a journey for Kat and her friends. Kat had faced so much. Chess has been gone six months when the story begins and she is heartbroken. When she begins to believe he may be alive, she is willing to risk everything to bring him home. It is a really good series and I recommend you read them all in order. It would be confusing to jump in at this point.
Kat is a really interesting character. She tends to say exactly what she thinks and it gets her in trouble but also makes people really love her. You get to go back and forth between Chess in the Shadowlands and her in the human world. Chess really does love her and is devoted to her. He has really changed since the earlier books. It is so sad to see them both suffering. They deserve happiness. There are always plenty of surprises. The ending leaves you wanting more.
Bedford has done it again by taking the classic take of Alice in Wonderland and weaving it into a new world of unspeakable dangers and true loves. Kat is finally forced to come to terms with the absence of Chess and grow into the princess she was meant to be. This story shows that you must be strong and that allies can always be found even within the shadows.
You know the bin at school that has all the lost jackets, lunch boxes and other creepy stuff? That place that is basically a black hole? That’s where Chess and Dorian ended up. Kat like any sane woman wanted nothing to do with that black hole. Except, it was like when you lost your favorite jacket and had to plug your nose and dive through the lost and found box. Kat had to hold her breath and plunge into the black hole to get her Cat back.
I've read several books written by Erin Bedford; she has done a great job at writing a good book; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of books her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the characters.

I enjoyed this conclusion to The Lost Fae Princess series, although it wasn't as exciting as the first 3 books. It does tie up most of the loose ends, although there is still room for more related books. If you like alternate or reimagined fairy tales, especially with a darker and sexier tone, you won't want to miss this series.

I have enjoyed this series Kat has gone threw allot taken on Fae powers dealt with petty queens princes who can't let go and loved and lost but nothing is as it ever seems in the Underground you may think someone is gone but the rules are always changing now Kat will have to stop thinking like a human and embrace the magic to find her love again.
I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book via Booksprout and this is my honest review.
Okay, if you have read the first three books, this is a must read. It answers the questions that you have and clears up so many of the mysteries that have been presented in the previous books. Kat shows that she is a force to be reckoned with. This book was hard to put down because you wanted to know what will happen next. It alternates between two major characters and you learn a lot about them even stuff you never gave a lot of thought about.
I could say so much more but that would end up giving up some spoilers and I really do not want to do that. I really must say that Erin Bedford did an awesome job of putting an end to the story. But in the same way, she left open the fact that there are more stories to tell about the characters and I certainly hope that she will tell them.
This story will take you down the rabbit hole and on the adventure of a lifetime. I don't usually care for Alice in Wonderland themed books. BUT just by reading a 5 sentences from this book I could tell something was different. So I took a chance and starting reading it. Three days.... I flew through this series in three days. This book consumes you.
