People had told Jessie that it would be an easy way to make tuition money for college if she joined the military and went on a few galactic expeditions. But they lied.

The first mission was to the planet Karkast, which was vaguely similar to Earth in its early formative years, with an unforgiving landscape and three blazing hot suns. The Karkastians had been attacked by the ruthless Sarceastians who had value for nothing – reminiscent of the Nazgul in “The Lord of the Rings” -- which was why Jessie was headed there as part of a team to look for and capture any Karkastian survivors. Jessie felt it was wrong to think of the planet’s entire population, or what was left of it, as terrorists just because of the actions of a few. She didn’t like hunting down the survivors like this.

After the team hunted one of the Karkastians and killed him, the team split up and continued their search for others. Jessie found a Karkastian and started talking to him. Neither of them was what the other had expected, and they started to see the good in each other. This openness and compassion would be invaluable when their path leads them in a surprise direction! What will the future bring as they must escape to survive?

This book wasn’t bad; it was well written for the most part. But it was not one of my favorites. I found the dialog sort of juvenile and overly simplistic between Jessie and Yahn. There were also many moral messages passed along by this story – the “hit you over the head” kind -- senseless hatred of an entire population because of the actions of a few; major quality of life distinction between how the wealthy versus the poor planet dwellers lived; dismissing the contributions and value of females despite their having been fully trained and qualified to perform the job. I’m not sure these “life lessons” really added anything to the story line, although it did highlight that the issues existing here today still haven’t been resolved in the far distant future. The characters were developed well and some were even likable. I just had trouble getting into this one.

Experienced Ashley L. Hunt reader sadly disappointed

I really hate rating stories so low, but to me this one deserved it. I have read many of Ashley L. Hunt's works--all of the Albaterra Mates series and a few more--so I feel as though I have a pretty good understanding of her best work and then not her best work. So why did I give this book a 2 star rating? To me, there was just too much going on. Please don't get me wrong, I LOVE action mixed in with my romance stories; it makes them more interesting and it helps the overall plot develop. BUT this book had way, way, way too much happening to Jessie and Yahn. It never felt like the I could take a breath, let alone the characters. As soon as they thought they were settled, they would be under attack again. As soon as they had Jessie's parents rescued, they were taken prisoners again. There were many of these instances as examples, but I simply can't remember anymore as they blended into each other eventually. So, you are probably wondering why I finished the book even after I admitted to not liking it? I did like the fact that Jessie and Yahn stood up to liberate groups of oppressed people. It was heart-warming to see her build an army to help Earth despite the way they branded her a traitor and tried to execute Yahn and she on numerous occasions. But then I also wondered how the Karkastians could have been completely wiped out with how talented Yahn and his people were. Perhaps, if this book, had been divided up over a series of books with different characters coming on the scene, it would have made for a better book. Please read Ashley's Albaterra Mates Series; they are good! I started re-reading "Rex" and realized exactly why I started reading her books to begin with. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book, and I borrowed it through the Kindle Unlimited program too.

This story is very nice, heartwarming - about finding your place. it shows what will happen if you consider whole race/nation thinking only about 3 of them. You will try to make them extinct. that's what Jessie cant allow to happen as it would go against here rules. Jessie and Yahn are so likable characters, they cooperate with each other and they try to understand their differences.
Next part starts after book 1. Here we see how people grow to change their position, their thinking about others. For me, scenes with the crowd were really hard as it seems so actual to some people. The Bond described in this book was so natural between main characters.
It was fast and really Nice read!
The last part of our journey! The level is just the same. This one is a conclusion of the whole story.
Jessie blooms even more than I expected her, she was a character that has not only pros but also cons, that makes read even better.
In this book, we have a peaceful beginning and then we get in the middle of the action till the end of it ;)
This heroine has her way to people Hearts!
Sometimes Yahn made me a little irritated, but it's normal as we can really like the character even with that part of it ;)

Yahn is a tall, blue-skinned Karkastian, and Jessie is a beautiful soldier assigned to explore the planet of Karkast which has recently been devastated by Sarceastians (a race that is determined to conquer the galaxy and use the resources they find to add to their wealth). Everything changes when Jessie encounters the last member of the Karkastian race (Yahn) and decides not to kill him but to protect him. Instead they both become fugitives having many adventures, drama and danger as they get to know each other better and gain acceptance for being together. As part of this journey they end up being known as liberators and gain allies across the galaxy even though they make a dangerous enemy too. Can they survive or will they go one crisis too far in their quest to be together in safety and happiness?

Wow - twists and turns had nothing on this story as they moved from one crisis to another in their need for acceptance and somewhere to call home. There was lots of danger and drama, whist in between there were tender moments of love and passion. It was charming to experience the relationship between Yahn and Jessie develop and blossom into something much more. A great read.

Best Alien Mates Yet!

Yahn is a fast-paced, action filled tale that will grab your attention from the very first page. Jessie is a human soldier who on her very first mission makes a life-altering choice. The planet they are on, Karkast, has been destroyed by the Sarceastians and her team is sent to round up any survivors. When she realizes that her team is more likely to kill rather than capture an surviving Karkastians, Jessie decides to help Yahn, the survivor she found. However, when her teammate discovers Yahn and is about to kill him, Jessie chooses to save him and do the morally right thing even though it turns her into a traitor. From that point on the story is all about Yahn and Jessie learning about each other has they flee their pursuers from spaceport to spaceport and planet to planet. They make friends along the way that help them and one continuing theme throughout the story is Jessie's morality and drive to do the right thing no matter what. From traitor to hero, prisoner to liberator, Jessie and Yahn's tale will take you to many different worlds and leave you cheering at the end.

I voluntarily received an Advanced readers copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I can only give this one four stars. This is the least book that I have read by this author and I have read all of her other books as well. It feels a bit long and a bit too much in most aspects. The characters are however quite good and to read about such good deeds as Jessie does when a collegue of hers is about to kill Yahn in stead of taking him prisoner it all begins. Their story take you all over the place and it is actually always amazing how authors have the imagination for all of these places and people they write about. It was quite a nice reading but still I cannot give more than the four stars.

This book made me think, "What would I do?". I would do just what Jessie did. I liked how she stood up and said something about the killings, knowing it would cause her difficulties. Yahn was so sweet and gentle and some of his abilities come in really handy, besides just being fun. They have some really meaningful times, even being chased across galaxies. I loved their introduction to the Neutomians, then later meeting up Dave. Their trip across space was so much fun, with that suspense of "will they make it" prevalent throughout. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. I would recommend this book to anyone (over 18) that likes space adventure and romance.

This is the fourth book in the Alien Mates series. It is one great story with aliens who want to kill everyone, soldiers, new friends, life and death flying, even slave trade. Could Ms Hunt have packed anymore into one story. This is Yahn and Jessie's story. Jessie is an Earthling soldier and Yahn is a Karkastian her fellow soldiers were sent to capture. Not willing to let James kill Yahn she shoots him in the hand. Now they are on the run or should I say flight. Will these two ever find a safe place to stay?
I give it 5 stars. "I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy without pressure to do so".

Divide and conquer, but there isn't anything to divide as most have been killed off by other invaders. So Earth decides to make the rest of the Karkastians extinct. Jessie is here to follow orders, but the meatheads that are a part of this expedition...not so much. In meeting Yahn, she finds him not to be a threat and tries to help him instead. And then the real action begins. The action and suspense keep you turning the page to see how Jessie and Yahn continue to stay one step ahead of it all.

I voluntarily read this Advanced Reader Copy and can recommend Ashley Hunt as an author to keep your eye on. I've read several of her books and they definitely entertain. Kudos!

I have loved this entire series so far, so I knew I would love this one before I even started the first page. The thing I was surprised by was how much this story felt relevant. What would you do if you had orders to capture, or kill, someone who was different than you just because they are different? That's the underling story line in this book. The romance that develops between Yahn and Jessie was beautiful! There is so much adventure, passion, drama, excitement and sexiness in this story. I couldn't put it down!

Ashley L Hunt's books are always amazing and this is no different. It is extremely well written and has a beautiful flow to it. Yahn and Jessie has such great personalities and they go through so much with each other. There are a lot of twists and turns throughout this story. The descriptions in the book are amazing and it makes it easy to picture what is being described. This is definitely worth reading and it won't disappoint. I voluntarily review an advanced reader copy of this book.

Wow. If something can go wrong it seems to with Jessie and Yahn. They keep going from one planet to the next and someone is always trying to kill them and that includes the government on Earth. But as long as the two stayed together they always survived. Lots and lots of action and fighting. And the relationship between the two does heat up. An interesting romp through space with two love birds.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of the book.

Found this book to be hard going, the story was a too rushed and there were just too many times when the same problem arose but in a different setting. Some people will love this book and I will be happy for them, I am just unfortunately not one of them. I have read better stories from this author :(

I liked the characters. They both want just the opportunity to be free and safe. The story is full of adventures and moves at a fast pace. It seems like there is one dangerous situation after another. I wish there had been a few less adventures and more time for them to really get a chance to develop their relationship.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

Horrible

I feel like this was written by someone else entirely. Not only was the book painfully basic and horrendously edited, it was filled with tropey plot devices so horrible that it's clear the author was not into writing this one at all. I have read good and not good stories from this author, but this book was flat out horrible and potentially her worst one.

The story was well written and holds your attention from beginning to end. It has enough action, adventure, villains, fear, and steamy love scenes with awesome characters? A must buy and keep them coming because they are awesome.

3.5 stars rounded up. I found this story to be a long, rambling fairy tale of dragons slain, slaves freed, and the brave warrior heroine and hero always victorious (and then they have sex).

Really, this book was a little too much of a good thing drawn out to a fine point. Jessie has enlisted in the military to earn money for college, but she did not like the mission they were on to find and capture Karkastians for torture and execution. When it is clear that the Karkastian home world has been attacked and most of the people killed, Jessie is even more determined to help the survivors. She finds one male left and saves him from another soldier, only to be named a traitor and forced to flee with him.

Yahn is fascinated by the little human who stands up for him. He leaves his planet with her and they begin to search for a place to live where they will be safe. This proves to be a difficult dream to fulfill. The Sarceastians destroyed his home and are doing the same to other worlds. The Earth vessel that Jessie was on is dogging them and they run into problems everywhere they go.

I will let you read their adventures for yourself if you so choose. It will take you through many adventures where friends will be made and enemies destroyed. Jessie will lead people into battle, and fight for her own life and that of her family. Through it all Yahn will support and love her.

I was given an ARC of this book. My review is voluntary.
