Essays from a young priest walking the darker roads of faith, detailing in brutal honesty the trials of following Jesus through seasons of anger, shame, anxiety, and even hate. The essays illustrate Christ’s presence in the midst of suffering, revealing how God uses pain for redemptive purposes. The book features imaginative storytelling and accessible reflections on scripture, spirituality, and the routine wonders of human life.
I liked it, but I liked his newer book better, probably because this one is more based on when he was a priest and I know what happened in that situation.
This book is like a sermon in each chapter, or could have been. Short, personal stories well related to the Gospel. Honest and easy to follow, a quick read.
A friend gave me this book to read and I loved it. I really liked the individual, stand alone chapters which tied back to the scripture. The pastor is real and owns it.
This is going on my bedside table along with Thanks, Help, Wow by Anne Lamott. It has been a comforting and guiding read, and will be there when I need to call or reassure myself.
