Short review: Good stuff, A+++ witchery, would buy again.
Longer review:
The introduction is good, basic, solid stuff on how to put together magical powders & oils. Thorough & clear. Some stuff I knew, some I didn't. A couple of 'don't do this, here is how I know' stories, which I always appreciate. The safety tips are clear & thorough, & she is unapologetic about the fact that she'll be repeating them at various times throughout the book.
I really appreciate that in the 'be careful if you're preggers' section she carefully does NOT assume that preggers=woman. As a nonbinary person with a uterus I don't want, THANK YOU.
On to the recipes: She gives the ingredients & proportions & then ideas for ways to use the powder, along with appropriate warnings, like 'if you really need to burn the cursing powder DON'T BREATHE THE SMOKE & probably leave the jalapeno powder out'. A quote: "Will cause nasal irritation and much sneezing if inhaled. I have made this mistake many times. No matter how tempting the aroma, DO NOT put your nose in the jar and sniff." (I'm feelin a lil called out here...)
The magical oils section might've done better as a separate book, with as much detail for each recipe as the powders get in this one. I _entirely_ appreciate the info, mind you, especially cos I mostly work with oils so far. But it feels kinda tacked on & I would LOVE more detail with each recipe. Would 5000% buy that book.
But that is SERIOUSLY the only quibble I got, I LOVE this book, gonna try SO MANY recipes, I've just gotta decide where I wanna start.
Bree does an excellent job of teaching. She breaks everything down so that anyone from a beginner in spellcraft to one well into their dotage can understand and enjoy. This is a perfect starter course or refresher course depending on your need. Sharing her knowledge is clearly important but nothing in her book is one sided. She leads you to the water and then allows you to drink, swim, or sink at your own pleasure. It is a very encouraging approach filled with fantastic how to’s ! I highly recommend this read.
Fantastic! So many recipes and so many ideas! I also loved the many many warnings included, I think a lot of witchy recipe books don't include enough warnings so that was Fantastic. I can't wait to try these out!
