Born in the small town of Clintwood, in southwestern Virginia’s coalfields, Adam Lawler is the son and grandson of coal miners. Determined not to work in the mines, Adam graduated from high school at age sixteen and attended Coastal Carolina Community College in Jacksonville, North Carolina, where he earned an Associates degree.

Adam continued his education at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, where he earned a B.A. in history with a minor in psychology, and a M.A. in Appalachian Studies. Finding little work for professional hillbillies, Adam went to work in the retail automotive industry,
holding several sales and finance management positions over a twenty-year time span. He also taught Western Civilization and Southern Culture at Wilkes Community College.

Adam is a ham radio operator, holding the callsign WK4P. He has been actively involved in the hobby for over twenty five years and supported our sailors and marines by serving in the Navy-Marine Corps Military Auxiliary Radio System (MARS) program.

Adam settled in West Jefferson, North Carolina and raised three children; Cyndi, a fourth grade teacher, Wayne, a glass artist, and Rachel, a customer service representative. He is currently empty-nester and still lives in West Jefferson with his Doberman Pinscher, Freyja.

***I won this book via the Goodreads Giveaway Program. This has not influenced my review.***

When there is an error on the first page, it's hard for me to keep reading. Thankfully, Amazon Kindle allows you to report errors. There were so many quotation mark, other punctuation, formatting, and other such errors that I gave up reporting at 60% through the book. It was taking more time to report the errors than read the book.

The good thing about this book is that the author formulated a complete plot and stuck with it all the way through.

The bad thing about this book is that it's quite dull. The opening 30% of the book relies on cliches and superficial descriptions. The details are repeated at least three times. The word "pervert" is used far too many times to describe situations that are not really perverted.

I became a bit more interested in the book at about 50% through. Then at 75% through, I just needed to wrap up reading this thing. The author should have done some research, especially concerning FBI protocols and procedures. That could help a bit.

Okay plot, bad writing, superficial characters, implausible scenarios, and really horrible editing are my takeaways from this book.

The plot line of the story was interesting, but over-shadowed by the characters. The whole school teacher discovers a murder while working her summer job was fun and interesting. There were some good twists and interesting story lines.

However, no adult woman wears a size 3 (that’s a jrs size... not something a 30 year old wears), the constant sexual overtones in the conversation with her “best friend” we’re super awkward, the idea that Megan would happily take a top less waitresses gig without knowing that’s what she was getting into is a stretch, the whole “I flirt with my creepy principal” thing even though he makes me uncomfortable is just not something women do,and I didn’t think she could come off any more ditzy or immature. The best friend is little more than a hyper-sexulized lesbian stereotype, and the FBI agent is kind of flat.

I personally couldn’t get past the characters enough to really enjoy the story. I received this book for free through Goodreads Giveaways. My opinions are my own.

I was surprised when I read some of the reviews for Misbehavin' Megan. I enjoyed the book from start to finish. I am a retired special education teacher so I could relate to thirty-year old, fourth grade teacher--Megan McAlister. Her school (DAM) Donald A. Mansfield just finished up the school year, and being newly divorced, Megan was headed to Morehead City to earn money as a part time waitress on an upstart luxury fishing charter. She was staying with her best friend from college, Maureen Jenkins. Her summer got more interesting when she discovered the ship's cook, Smiley, dead! She met cute agent Jed Freeman when the FBI got involved. I liked the plot, the setting, and the characters.

First i want to thank you for choosing me for one of the giveaway winners. This book is not exactly what I was expecting. I'm sure the story line is good but I couldn't even get past the 5th chapter. You can definitely tell a male wrote this story with the naughty, sexy teacher, her lesbian best friend, all of the lesbian overtures, the mandatory nudity. You might want to change your description of this book because it's a bit misleading.

I dunno, the characters pretty much overshadowed the plot. Of course, I detested the heroine who wears size two and seemingly never in her life bought clothing at a consignment store, and her bestie from college seems pretty controlling, and there's just something not quite right about the federal agent. But the murder, the reason behind it (no spoilers), and the twisty investigation are done well. I recommend this read.
I requested and won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway.

Three stars for plot. Minus two stars for sheer ridiculousness. Why two best friends would sit out on the balcony having dinner while naked is beyond me. And why the one friend would be besties with her gay friend who consistently comes on to her sexually is beyond belief. Very bizarre behavior throughout.

A good read!

This was a good book! The humor was funny, the characters were loveable, the romance was playful and light, and the twists kept me turning pages. The only thing that I thought was cheesey was the facebook ploy. Besides that I really enjoyed this book.

Funny, improbable, sweet, an enjoyable book. You can't help laughing at a character who talks to herself all the time while doing ditsy things. The FBI story was quite possible, the use of Megan not quite so possible. Overall the book was just quick fun to read.

I won a digital copy in a Goodreads giveaway.

A pretty standard cozy mystery but with lots of action.
I would read more from this author.
