somehow... it's not as intense as any of their matches against aoba johsai. but that's probably because it's still the second set. BUT. IS TSUKISHIMA GETTING FIRED UP??? AM I DREAMING???
Even though I have never read Harry Potter, something tells me Haikyuu fanfic set in the world of that series sounds incredibly interesting, especially if Kei's Harry. That was a cool set-up for the bonus fake movie poster.
The actual volume was another winner. Though there were a few differences in how the side actions played out during the match (again, I watched the anime first), it didn't affect my enjoyment. I can't resist Tendou, after all. Or this series.
This counts as my review for the whole Haikyuu!! manga
”You don’t win alone. That’s just how it is.”
READ FOR: best character developments and themes that I have ever encountered READING LEVEL: Level 1-3 out of 5
*All of my reviews are as spoiler-free as possible unless stated otherwise*
I don’t think I’ll ever have enough words to express how much I love this manga and anime series but I’ll try anyway. But I just need to make it known that this has changed my view in anime and manga forever. I caught up with this manga in the last 30 or so chapters but I won’t say much to avoid spoilers... but it was crazy.
It made me laugh, cry, fall in love, think, and honestly... what else do you need in a series? I can keep going on and on about this series but honestly I think you should just read it for yourself. I really don't think you'll regret it.
When someone asks me what the plot is, honestly, all I can say is “they play volleyball” HAHAHA… but it’s so much more than that.
PLOT: ★★★★★ The plot was so well thought of from the very beginning and when I re-read the manga I can’t believe the amount of foreshadowing Furudate actually placed. My mind was so blown… I just. No words. I am seriously in love.
ART STYLE: ★★★★★ The art style… *chef’s kiss* especially in the later arcs. There were so many matches but even then Furudate never failed to leave me breathless at each one.
CHARACTERS: ★★★★★ The character development here is THE BEST. HANDS DOWN. that I have ever come across. I fell in love with the so many characters in this series that I did not even think that was possible.
The character relationships... the character dynamics... their mindsets... they are all so perfectly well done and realistic GAHHHH I've said this so many time throughout this review BUT THEY JUST MADE ME FALL IN LOVE SO EASILY. I can't pick my favourite one but hinata and kageyama just hold a special place in my heart.
This connects to the themes but my favourite thing that was done with the characters here was that each one of them embodied a theme or a message that the author wanted to get across. Those are spoilers so I won’t really talk about it but just know that it was one of the main reasons that made me go so crazy about this series.
*cough* hinata kageyama atsumu sakusa bokuto kita noya ushijima tendou tsukki suga kenma kuroo *cough* +++
Note: if you think this series is focused on only 1 team... you're in it for A RIDEEEEEE
I'm getting chills just looking at and remembering these panels ^^
THEMES: ★★★★★ Honestly I basically thought the themes were just gonna be “teamwork” and “friendship”… while it is all that, Furudate sensei was able to make it even deeper.
I think the one that was focused on the most was “It’s not always about winning, it’s about growth”. But there were also so many smaller things that lead up to that bigger point: (1) we get our strength from others, (2) but you also need to make yourself dependable, (3) there is always room for improvement, (4) working hard is good but overworking yourself isn’t, (5) you are built on the small things you do everyday, (6) an ace's back should be an inspiration to your teammates (hi bokuto), (7)+++
The way I wrote it was very straight to the point but I was amazed at how Furudate tackled the so many messages that I received from this series.
PACING: ★★★★★ THE TIMING. OF EVERYTHING. JUST MAKES SENSE.
It’s so realistic that I want to cry. (I actually already did… a lot of times.)
PAGE TURNER: ★★★★★
You should understand that I made this review weeks after I finally calmed down about this series cuz I was really going crazy about it HAHAHA if you have finished this series too or met me while I was reading this, you know what I’m talking about ;)
I'll keep this series close to my heart until the grave. You cannot convince me otherwise.
The action never really lets up in this one! Throughout the whole volume, there's this feeling of tension building, leading up to something. (Or maybe it's just that I suspect one of my favorite parts is coming in the next volume.😉)
Favorite moments:
-Tendo singing his little song. (Okay, Tendo doing anything, really.) -Tsukki's blocking. I honestly felt like smirking every time it happened. -Yamaguchi being confident in his skills. 😊 -The high-five that never happened between Hinata and Tsukishima.
3.25 stars - not boring by any means the progress of the story is just slightly stunted? Since it’s building to Tsukki’s big moment. I didn’t like Tendo when watching the anime initially but I found myself enjoying his moments here
Well, that was exciting...even if they aren't even halfway through the finals matches yet.The focus this time is on the kid with glasses, but everyone gets some screen time. Good stuff.
3,5 ⭐ Non vedo l'ora di leggere il volume successivo per continuare a leggere lo scontro con lo Shiratorizawa. Il volume 19 si preannuncia pieno di eventi e colpi di scena!
Alright, I'm just going to come right out and say that I have not liked Shiratorizawa as a whole from the get go. Ushijima is probably my least favorite character in Haikyu!! by a long shot so I found myself crackling through this volume at how Karasono continues to keep up with Shiratorizawa. I would honestly say that throughout this volume I probably was like Oikawa at the end of the match in the previous volume where I'm telling Ushijima to come at my guys with your greatest weapon because you are SOOOO not going to win this Shiratorizawa!
Though the ending of this volume didn't say who won the set yet soooo…I'll just keep reading. LOL!
I will say that I really do like some of the individuality of the Shiratorizawa players. Due to how different each player is, there can be some good funny moments among the team and I appreciate how they are really getting Tsukki hyped in this own way. It's pretty cool in that regard!
And I can also say that this volume did actually make me like Shiratorizawa more than I did before. Mr. "Benkei" is a hoot because he knows exactly what people are thinking and apologizes internally. LOL! I still like Tendou and really like Goshiki even more than I did. He's just an admirable rookie and I honestly hope he goes places later on!
Nishinoya continues to be a BEAST! He shines so much in this volume! It is completely amazing!
If I was crying in the last volume, I'm biting nails with how intense this one is. (Not really, but figuratively I would say I am. LOL!)
As it turns out, I was too harsh about Kyotani. At least he has those extreme cross shots that are cool to watch. Considering how much he's been hyped up, Ushijima is an extremely boring player. His playing style is less about strategy and more about brute forcing with sheer strength. I'm just not a fan of how conservatively Shiratorizawa plays. They're the best team in the prefecture: they have nothing to lose by trying out new things and can always fall back on brute force if necessary, yet they refuse to do so. Their approach has obviously serve them well, but I feel annoyed watching them play against Karasuno. What a boring match! The only interesting thing going on is seeing Tsukishima get fired up.
guys no one can take my favorite kid birb goshiki away from his smol nest in my hart [pumps fist against dining table] NO ONE
not to be theatrical but when we got that two-page spread of tendou pulling out his guess blocks right when karasuno managed to go on offense my brain literally exploded
also is it just me or did tendou becoming increasingly deranged over the first two sets mans went from easygoing upperclassman aniki to this twitchy freaky spOingy vegas casino gambler of sociopathic G L E E i don’t think we’re ever gonna get normal back & my soul is FINE therewith
ohira casually being a certified grandpa with grandpa concerns + tendou canonically dissing semi’s fashion sense + goshiki’s words being as cool as his Bangz FUFFH shiratoridynamics also YUMMÉ ASF
S HI M M E R T S U K KI SIAJSHNFIEJ
YACCHI HOLDING KENMA BEHIND RONMAGUCHI AARGFJAJSSJS & actually tsukki’s face of pure evil intent might be my only source of lasting joy
4.5 stars, only because last volume was better, but this was sooo good too!
I don't quite like Ushijima, so I'm rooting for Karasuno here all the time (unlike on other matches, where I'd cheer for other teams too). I mean, he's good, yes. But also arrogant and not being ignorant (or charming) about it, unlike Kageyama or Oikawa or Bokuto.
The rallies are not as good as the match against Aoba's, but I like that Shiratorizawa has other players stealing the spotlight with their antics and skills. Because really, it would be boring if only one player was good, and all others are just mildly good.
Anyway. I especially enjoyed this volume because of Karasuno's super rookies. They're the best. Kageyama and Tsukki - panalo talaga tong dalawang mokong na to. Hahahaha!
As I have watched the anime prior, nothing comes as a surprise. However the vibes and matches and just EVERYTHING is sooo good! In this match, as we can see on the cover, we have Shiratorizawa v Karasuno grand final for the one spot into finals. There are a rare few characters I don’t vibe with in the Haikyu series from the anime, Oikawa and Tendou being the main ones, but they both seem much better in the manga. Don’t know why, but that’s it. Another 5 stars, and won’t be long until we move onto the next one.
the whole logical vs unlogical plays between the characters is tew good. something about seeing how carefree and goofy tendo is in comparison to serious and stoic tsukki makes this volume stand out SO much. i want to read more…. gimme more pls
shiratorizawa is scary lol but the game is really exciting! and TENDO’S SONG!! and THE HARRY POTTER AT THE END I WAS FREAKING OUT I LOVE HARRY POTTER SM AND AHH MY FAVORITE BOOK SERIES COMBINED WITH MY FAVORITE SHOW SGHJEJWJAKAJFHDKO TSUKKI IS SUCH A SLYTHERIN AND THE QUOTE HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA AND THE CASTING CHOICES AND EVERYTHING
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
As a Semi Eita simp this is my time to shine people.
But crying that Tendou's full song is not in the manga, anime people know.
And Noya and Tsukki really out here carrying this game and having seen it played out already I love the foreshadowing to that Tsukki moment soon to come.
I CAN FEEL IT COMING! IT'S COMING!! Also the tension is so high I feel like I can't breathe properly as I'm reading this. How is this more thrilling than action mangas?? I love it! One of my fav background moments of Hinata and Kageyama is in this volume as well, loved seeing it.
