Welcome to Spellbound, where paranormal is the new normal.
A new discovery by the remedial witches offers the chance to obtain a key ingredient for a spell that *may* bring an end to the curse on the long-suffering town. Naturally, Emma is the first to volunteer for the task--oblivious to the potential danger she faces. In the meantime, she stumbles upon a dead body in the Spellbound Care Home during a visit to Agnes and hopes--just this once--that someone has died due to natural causes.
With the odds stacked against her, Emma faces the challenges ahead as though the lives of everyone she loves depends on it, because this time--they just might.

This was my least favorite of the series so far. That Emma is such a good girl oh and a virgin and also waiting till she's married to have sex is not only not relateable to me, but i find it annoying how it's portrayed as part of what makes her better than the other characters. The actual murder mystery part of it was pretty repetitive to the previous books and i was able to guess immediately who did it. Even worse she solves the case with literally no evidence whatsoever and gets a full confession again with literally no evidence but her own supposition to prove it. I don't know if this author was just a huge fan of Perry Mason or doesn't actually understand the idea of building evidence for a case because almost every single book has had a confession. People are not going to give themselves up and incriminate themselves just because the "good girl" says "aha you did this didn't you?!" Oh but in spell bound they do! My favorite character is Markos who i like so much more than Daniel and it is frustrating to see him going after no only his own coworker(super unethical), but someone who is literally an awful person. Sigh I'm finishing this series out of stubbornness, but really hoping starry bound is better.

The eighth installment of the Spellbound series, A Drop in the Potion, continues the saga of Emma—our virtuous sorceress stuck in the cursed supernatural town. This time, Emma stumbles upon another murder (in a care home, no less!) while embarking on a perilous mission to collect a rare ingredient that might break the town's curse. Unfortunately, while the concept holds promise, the execution leaves much to be desired. The central mystery falls flat, feeling repetitive and predictable, with the culprit evident from the start. Worse, Emma solves the case without tangible evidence again, relying solely on her intuition and conveniently extracting full confessions. This pattern has grown tiresome, diminishing the stakes and intrigue of the murder mystery element. Emma's portrayal as the quintessential "good girl" also veers into overkill. While her goodness and purity are meant to endear, the constant reminders—her virginity, moral perfection, and apparent superiority—come across as cloying. The narrative sacrifices nuance to hammer home her goodness, which can alienate readers seeking more complex, relatable characters. On the positive side, the Spellbound world retains its charm, with its quirky, magical elements and humorous moments that keep the tone light. The side characters, especially Markos, add much-needed depth and spark to the story, though his subplot feels frustratingly underdeveloped. Ultimately, A Drop in the Potion is a serviceable addition for die-hard fans of the series but lacks the freshness and excitement of earlier entries. While the whimsical setting and core group of characters remain appealing, the lack of tension, overemphasis on Emma's perfection, and repetitive plotlines make this one of the weaker books in the series. However, the potential for the next installment, Starry Bound, to restore the magic is something to look forward to.
I'm still in Spellbound today, where Emma being a witch in a town full of paranormal's that's a part of her new life.
While Emma is at the Care Home asking Agnes for help with an unusual spell the the friends in the remedial group have found.... Again, Emma finds herself stumbling over a dead body. You would think in a Care Home, it would be natural causes, nope, again it's murder. Will Emma be able to solve the mystery of who murdered the Care Home resident and why?
However, not getting the help she is seeking she ends up at the cabin with the ghost. The great thing is she learns a key ingredient that may break the curse on the town. But the one to collect the ingredient requires them to be pure of heart which Emma has already proven. But it also requires them to be pure of body.and mind. Luckily our Emma is still pure of body, so she naturally volunteers for the task. But can she prove to be pure of mind?
A Drop in the Potion is the eighth book in the Spellbound series. It's a full length novel that has light drama, humorous moments, lots of magical paranormal's, and a bit of love.
Books in the series include: Curse the Day, Book 1 Doom and Broom, Book 2 Spell's Bells, Book 3 Lucky Charm, Book 4 Better Than Hex, Book 5 Cast Away, Book 6 A Touch of Magic, Book 7 A Drop in the Potion, Book 8
Next in the Spellbound series: Hemlocked and Loaded, Book 9
Thanks to the remedial witches, a possible end to the curse on Spellbound has been found. It starts with a spell to summon the mystical unicorn, which of course must be cast by Emma. There is also a murder in the old age home that she gets involved in. But she doesn’t have any cases to defend. This book follows the process of Emma learning more magic, solving a mystery, and taking care of her friends. There is the usual multitude of different supernatural beings, humour, the romance with Daniel which is sort of angelic – very pure. She is still trying to find out about her past but that takes the background in this book. This is a very quick, easy reading, fun book.
Part 8 in the series. Emma Hart is working in the remedial witches class. But, one of the witches finds an old manuscript that might lead them to break the curse on the town that keeps everyone stuck there. Emma is the first to volunteer for the tricky challenges set forth in the instructions to break the town's curse. Meanwhile, there is a dead satyr in the old folks care home, and he did not die of natural causes. Lots of great characters, always a new adventure, very creative series.
...like all the other books in the series. I loved the other books in the series. This one I liked slightly less. It is book 8 after all, and it lacked as much action as the plots in the previous books. Still a very enjoyable read.
Süßes kurzes Buch für zwischendurch, nur ich muss sagen, dass ich aktiv vom romantischen Partner der Protagonistin genervt bin. Aber ansonsten ist die Serie einfach Cozy.
. In this humorous and cozy mystery series, the reader is swept away into an escape of exploration and adventure of well-written plots, in a magical town called Spellbound. Here you find a multitude of engaging characters - paranormal people and creatures cohabitating in one realm. Emma, the heroine, is a witch of sorts and the town sleuth.
Emma and the remedial witches face a tremendous challenge when they become involved in the possibility of finding the key that could lift the spell that keeps citizens of Spellbound locked in their town. She works diligently to solve another murder.
Each book in the series adds new characters, some interesting and others not so much. All seem to get along with Emma.
What will happen next? You will just never know unless you crack open the book and start reading.
This book can stand on its own, it was a clean presentation, a romantical disaster was avoided, and a mystery was solved -- ALL GOOD THINGS !!
I actually like Emma, but this book is almost nauseating in how much the author wants us to see how good she is. I get it; she's good, and I like that she's good, but come on. I am thrilled she is still a virgin. Emma's good. Got it. Also, we also know Daniel is tall, no need to stand on Google every time they kiss. I read these because I do lie the characters, but this one was very saccharine. Also, the book needs some editing.
This is the 9th in the series and the storyline is moving along nicely. Although I'm confident you could read this alone if you happened across it. It is well written and moves along at a good pace.
The story... Emma is a sorceress although she only discovered this fact after finding herself in Spellbound, a supernatural town where the residents - including Emma - cannot escape due to a curse placed upon the town.
Since finding herself trapped here, Emma has quickly formed a new improved life. She has a job as the town's public defender and she also helps out the sheriff with cases as a consultant.
Her house belonged to the former public defender, a vampire called Gareth, who was murdered shortly before her arrival. Gareth has come back as a ghost and so he and his cat Magpie are Emma's roomies.
As well as her job, Emma has to attend remedial classes with Laurel, Sophie, Begonia and Millie and the five of them have just found a clue to break the curse on the town and allow the residents to leave Spellbound.
So, now, as well as her job, classes, and super hot boyfriend, fallen Angel Daniel, Emma has to try to find this clue as the first part to free the town. The question is can she manage this without losing any friends or herself along the way?
Whilst these books are fun and easy to read, they don't have me worrying about the protagonist or melting at the love between the hero and her beau as some other books have done in the same category as Spellbound, which is a shame. I just wish I could identify the missing ingredient that gets my blood flowing quicker when reading these other books.
I would recommend these for a light read, but maybe not as an introduction to this genre.
Thank you Ms Chase for you imagination and hard work though, it is appreciated.
In this episode, our heroine finds a climax to her story, one that makes me wonder what more can come after. There is the usual dead body found that she has to try to solve who killed the individual. In this particular one however, she has a lot of other things to deal with and it ends up taking to the very end for her to solved the mystery.
In the meantime, she thinks that one of her friends' boyfriend might be cheating on her friend. In addition, she has the usual attempts to understand and deal with the day to day adventures...and finally she gets tested to see if she is pure enough to get a golden horn of a magical unicorn. Nationally that is not as cut and dried as it seems, but she reacts with her usuala instincts and things do in fact work out.
This is volume 8 and I am still anxious to see what more there is to see.
"A Drop in the Potion" by Annabel Chase is the eighth book in the "Spellbound" series. Emma is at the retirement home practicing her sorcery when she comes across the body of an elderly satyr. If a murder mystery isn't enough to fill up her free time then you don't know Emma. The remedial witches are deep in their secret hideout when they come across an odd page in a spell book. Turns out there is more to this page then meets the eye, and the remedial witches are going to figure it out. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book. I've been writing a lot myself, hence why it's taken me longer to read this one then normal. All books in the Spellbound series should be read in order. I can't wait to read what happens next.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
Book eight in this fabulous paranormal cozey mystery and I'm even more bedazzled and enchanted with this series than I was by reading the first and believe me it is truly enchanting. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it and I definitely couldn't put this mystery down because it's so well written enticing you with its intrigue, vibrant magical and colorful array of characters and then there's the plot that wraps you into its story have turning page after exciting page until you've reached the unexpected and climatic conclusion. Acquire " A Drop in the Potion " ( Spellbound Paranormal Cozey Mystery)today for hours of intriguing and enjoyable entertainment. Kat
A murder at the senior living centre causes Emma to start investigating. Meanwhile, the remedial class of witches might have found a way to lift the curse - but it’s a dangerous undertaking.
The subplot takes centre stage in this book, as Emma and her classmates find some interesting clues that might enable the town curse to be lifted. That means there is quite a bit of action in this one, and the reader, absolutely has to have read the previous books in the series! There is still a mystery, and it does get solved, but it’s not the focus, which means this book is really best for series fans, and those who enjoy a little mystery in their urban/contemporary fantasy tales.
Emma and her pals need a new name; "remedial" certainly is NOT appropriate for the group who made the first steps toward freeing the town from its curse! The murder mystery is secondary to other events but still interesting, but the big reveal came out of nowhere. There are a couple of budding relationships, a couple more that are progressing nicely, one that may be poised to implode, and one with a BIG surprise, so there are plenty of distractions to keep Emma diverted from learning more of her history. And the ailing plant has yet to be addressed...!
Terrific. Has the class found a way to break the town curse? A golden horn from a unicorn seems to be what is required. Will our heroine be able to win it? Her mind is split between this and a death that has occurred at the retirement home and her relationship with the angel. Great plot that goes further in our exploration on the town and the inhabitants. A terrific series but please bear in mind that the actual mystery is more or less coincidental to the main storyline which is about the people who reside in town.
.. of the curse. Laurel's secret grimoire hunting turns up a mysterious addition to one of the oldest grimoires in the collection. The oddity is the very nature of the spells written upon it.. they are remedial level which makes no sense seeing as it's in the middle of the book.
The girls work out that there must be a hidden message and when they uncover it they've got a whole new problem.. it's written in runes. Can they translate them? What will it reveal and will it possible to save Spellbound from the curse?
This series just goes from strength to strength, in this episode the remedial Witches discover a spell hidden in an old grimoire that could possibly help to break the curse that traps everyone in Spellbound. There's just one problem they have to get the golden horn from a Unicorn and as a sorceress, Emma is the only one qualified to try to retrieve it no biggie right? As usual a great storyline with all the usual zany characters, magic humor romance, and of course the obligatory murder mystery to solve, a great addition to the series, Baz.
We’re heading into the home stretch in the 8th book of the Spellbound series. This time around, Emma stumbles onto a murder victim at the nursing home, someone may be trying to poison her, the first steps are taken to end the curse that keeps the residents stuck in Spellbound, and there’s various romantic shenanigans afoot. It’s a lot to squish into 190 pages, and that’s where the trouble lies. Everything seems rushed and there’s no time for the characters to breathe, and the mystery is an afterthought. This one is only average.
An old grimoire proves interesting but the runs need to be translated somehow. Her dream world yields some of her report cards and, as always, there's a murder.
With so many murders it's no wonder some of the people want to escape the town.
There's a poisoned plant in her office which brings up the question is someone trying to eliminate her? There's a bunch of tests she has to get through, a giant squirrel, progress on Gareth's part and a major development in her personal life.
A lot going on for her and some progress towards a really major event for the entire town.
Endlich gehts wieder in die Vollen! Huiuiuiui, was ist denn hier alles passiert?
Emma Hart and her friends may have found a way to break the curse the town is under. Again there is a murder and Emma is there to help the sheriff to find out who. During all of this there is time to find love as well as challenges to face. All is accomplished and murder is solved. A great read but to be truthful I would read the books in order or in my opinion you will be lost.
I would love to live in Spellbound with Emma, a Sorceress, Daniel, an Angel and Emma's True Love, A Coven of Witches, a Vampire Ghost, Fairies, and so many other Magical creatures. Emma is on the case to solve another murder and with her friends help, might have found a way to break a curse. Loved it and can't wait for the next book in the series.
This has been my favorite book in the series. Emma is learning more about herself and her powers-and just how fantastic her friends and townspeople really are. It is a great book about Emma's growth-as well as watching the town grow together too. On the quest to find how to gather a magical golden horn to break the towns spell, Emma has to face many obstacles and use all of her wits and magical ability she has.
