Fearless

Rate this book
Falon Whyte books a cruise for her girlfriend of two years. What she hopes will be a fun vacation quickly turns out to be a nightmare. Falon is normally a woman who can roll with the punches, but life delivers a series of blows that knock her on her butt and leave her stranded in Honduras with the company of an uptight woman she doesn't like. Haley Hollis isn't having a good time, either. She spends two nights on the top deck of the ship after being locked out by her sexually adventurous cabin mate. Desperate to do something fun, she accepts an invitation from a new friend to join him on a zip line excursion. She only thinks the trip down the side of a mountain on a wire is the most terrifying thing she'll ever experience. What Falon and Haley think is a disaster turns into a magical adventure in Robin Alexander's latest romantic comedy, Fearless. Contains mature themes.

Born in 1965, Robin Alexander grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she still resides. An avid reader of Lesbian fiction, Robin decided to take the leap and try her hand at writing. It didn't take long for her favorite hobby to become a full-time author.
Since her heritage is Scottish and Irish and she’s allergic to seafood, she’s considered an honorary Cajun. When she’s not writing, she’s exploring her state with the top off her Jeep in search of the small towns on the water that inspire her.
Robin is awkward, sometimes shy, loaded with anxieties, accident prone, dangerous with power tools, and has been known to make idiotic decisions. She has been fortunate enough to turn her shortcomings into the hilarious characters you’ll find in her novels and short stories. Her passion is writing funny tales about falling in love, being imperfect and reveling in friendship.
Robin is convinced she has the best job in the world, and she’s extremely grateful for her fans who support her and enable her to do what she loves.

I was slightly concerned when I opened the book to find two people bickering and fighting on a cruise ship. Luckily one of the two was quickly out of the story, and my fears did not move past that initial slight concern.

I love everything about this book - the main characters, the adventure (stuck in Honduras together after their cruise ship left without them, Falon and Haley had fun adventures around the area (they kept saying 'island', Honduras isn't an island but there are islands off the coast - oh, that's what Roatán is, it's an island off the coast of Honduras, one of the Bay Islands)), the side characters, the best friends, the hotel owner, - everything.

This book has excitement, adventures, romance, chemistry, humor, travel, and more. I now feel like I'm writing an advertisement. pfft.

At this exact moment, minutes after finishing the book, I can confidently say that this book is within the top 3 books I've read by Alexander. Though I'd be more tentative as to where in that 3 book list this book would fall. I wish to clarify that I've read 25 books not just three.

Something about me. I'm an intensely empathetic person. So when I read books with the sads or the bad feels it seriously stresses me out. For reals. I usually go into a book with my guard up against the bad stuff. But here's the thing about Robin Alexander's books. I don't have to do that with hers. I'm always guaranteed a good story, great dialog, outstanding secondary characters, and the good feels. And this book is exactly that. Throw in some funnies and there you have it folks. 5 easy peasy stars. Loved my 29th Robin Alexander book just like I knew I would.

Like this book, my reading experience has been a journey. I read about half, took a break, forgot what I read, reread the first half (and loved it more), then took another break, then returned to devour the rest. Robin Alexander is candy and I put a pin on it because I knew I'd crave the rest at the right time. Not the most clever reading trajectory, but it worked this time!

Anyways, in this book, we have a clashing of personalities between Haley (so cute and snippy!) and Falon. Haley's afraid of everything while Falon is careless. Yet, they're both not fearless, not open to confronting what plagued them until they meet and bond under very crazy circumstances.

Of course, Alexander had me cracking up more than once. I felt like some of the momentum is lost when . The meetup with Haley's neurotic father lived up to the hype and had me in stitches; I kind of wish it were longer.

Also, Fearless could've used more sex? Is that just me?

All and all, it's a solid book that left me with some deep messages. I actually reflected at parts, wondering what fears hold me back from certain goals. Whew!

This is going to seem crazy, but this is the first Robin Alexander book I have read. I'm not sure what took me so long other than to say I just have too many "to read" books pending. However, I'm really glad I finally got to one of her books. Like many other reviewers have stated, Alexander is downright hysterical. Melissa Brayden held the trophy for wittiest writer previously in my opinion, but Alexander has now handily swiped that trophy away.

I have to say, I was a little put off by the loud "yellish" banter in the beginning of the book. You are basically witnessing the demise of a relationship in the beginning of the book between one of the MC's and her GF. However, once the two MC's get together(which is pretty quick) start spending time together, the negativity dissipates promptly.

The story really had no angst...at least not between the two MC's. There was some friend induced angst but it was pretty minimal. The story itself is not an action packed roller coaster at all, but more of a nice slow romance build you witness growing between two MC's. The sex scenes varied between vanilla to fade to black. So I would not call this book "hot" but just a sweet romance with a ton of laughs.

So I just have to add an example of Alexander's wacky humor with MC Falon providing MC Haley an example of how she trusts too easily. This is Falon explaining how she interviewed an apparent maniac(a background check later confirmed she ran over her previous boss w/her car) and completely missed all the red flags and was ready to hire her.

-"Del(Falon's coworker) said the woman had crazy eyes. I didn't see crazy eyes. I thought she was really focusing on the job interview because she never blinked. She stabbed her notebook w/her pen a couple of times, but I thought she was dotting an i."
-"She didn't blink?" Haley said w/a frown.
-"Not once."
-"That's not normal. You didn't have even have one jingle of a warning bell?" Haley asked.
-"No, I just thought she was blinking when I did."

I'm laughing just typing that, it's just so silly. So if you need a happy little book to improve your day, this one will most definitely do the trick.

5 STARS again for a Robin Alexander book.

This is probably one of Alexander's best books, especially in last few years. Although I gave them 4-5 stars - I definitely enjoyed this one the most. I loved the two MCs who meet on a cruise - Fallon, who is adventurous, go with the flow type (well, except when her girlfriend breaks up with her, mid cruise) and then there is her opposite - Haley, a workaholic, cold, and focused but she did go on this cruise to try to expand. But things don't go as planned and the two of them end up stranded on Roatan, a resort Island off the coast of Honduras.

The first half of the book is them getting to know each other and explore the island resort. They meet Marcus the hotel owner who puts them up and under his protection. He is now one of my favorite Alexander characters plus he's not her usual comic relief side character. The second half is them getting back to their real world and navigating their relationship, friends, family and the changes in both of them.

Yes, this is a laugh and guffaw out loud Alexander book but without the quirky, off kilter older lady, grandmother, mother, etc. Well, I guess Dee & Haley's Father plays that role to an extent. I don't know, it felt less slapsticky. Perhaps more dialogue humor? When I reread this book I'll probably change my mind on this point. Huh. Especially now as I recall Halley & her Dad's interactions.

I'm going to have to remember highlight favorite passages as I read. Here's two that I did do -
““We are very different in our approaches to people. I go in like a puppy. ‘I like you, I like you, I like you.’ You’re more like ‘let me sniff you first,”’ Falon said with a laugh.”

“When I was going through women like tissues at a funeral” Fallon

If you like Alexander, read this book. If you never read her, read this book. If you don't like her, give it a try.

This is a funny book which guarantees big laughs. The book has romance, adventure and a ton of comedy. I enjoyed the half first part of the book more than the second, in which where the rhythm was diminished. However, Fearless is another good story from Robin Alexander in which the characters are great and the humor is amazing.

4.5 rounded up. Robin Alexander at her finest. Funny...hysterical in places. Like laugh out loud funny. May be one of my faves from this author. I'll have to think about that-because I'm a big Robin Alexander fan!!

Falon is a fantastic character. She's impulsive, funny, curious, unconventional, artistic, open, generous, spontaneous and genuine. She's impossible not to like... unless you're her uptight girlfriend or Haley when they crash into each other and Falon's drink splashes all over them on the cruise they're supposed to be enjoying. Falon is hoping to rekindle her relationship but her girlfriend has done nothing but bitch from the moment she stepped aboard. Haley was supposed to be enjoying the cruise with friends but ends up with the inconsiderate cousin-of-friend instead.

This was thoroughly enjoyable. The banter and dialogue was witty and entertaining. The secondary characters were just as crazy as Falon. (There were no meddling little old ladies.) Haley was just as interesting as Falon but in a completely different way. She's uptight, meticulous and rigid but it's not surprising as more information about her father comes to light.

Fearless is a well-written easy read.

Robin Alexander is on the top of my most read authors list. This was book number 22 and it will come to no surprise that Fearless earned a 5 star rating with ease. I would say this is probably going to be in the top 3 most favorite Robin Alexander books i've read to date.

As always her characters get into the most hilarious situations and the cast of friends, family and people they meet along the way is just fantastic. I adored crazy Falon and uptight Haley. Their banter was hilarious and heartwarming. Haley's overprotecting germophobic dad was a hoot! Falon's employee Del with her vajayjay problems, the toot toot song, grumpy 'dad' Marcus and Sean will always stay with me.

I love how this author always creates funny, wonderful feel good romances that make me come back for more. Never stop writing Robin, I will always be enjoying your books!

Falon and Hayley meet under the strangest of circumstances, stranded in the island of Roatán (Honduras) after their cruise ship leaves without them. They eventually go past their original antagonism and decide to make the most of their time together. Falon wants to recover her freedom and Hayley wants to learn how to be fearless. Once they are back home to New Orleans will their time together unite or separate them?

Robin Alexander is one of my favourite lesfic authors (for a complete list see https://lezreviewbooks.wordpress.com/...). She's got a quirky sense of humour that is unique. 'Fearless' is no exception: it's a funny, witty and romantic story. My only criticism is that the plot seems to be cut in half, one in Honduras and the other back in New Orleans. The fast pace is lost and some of the secondary characters are more annoying than funny. However, it still makes for a very entertaining and enjoyable read. 4 stars.

I felt good reading this. I had a smile on my face for much of the first half of the book. The story deals with the expectations of who is "good for you" or not, how opposites can be attracted to each other and ultimately the reaction of friends and family who have concerns about this new romance. They want to intervene.

Haley and Falon are cute and funny together. I had no wish to intervene. This is a cute story which had me rooting for the couple's future. Robin Alexander is one of my favorites.

Typical Alaxander

I think Robin Alexander is one of few authors who can have me laughing out loud one minute and then tearing up with emotion the next. She is truly an awesome writer who has an astounding ability to make you fall in love with the characters and get completely engulfed in the story she has weaved. This one is a corker and finds itself at the top of my 'to read again soon'. If you enjoy R A's work (and who wouldn't by the way?!) then you should definitely read this, it's one of her best.

One of many Robin Alexander book's that I have read, and if you are familiar with her work, you truly have to be in the mood for the pace of them. This one is no exception, and I really WAS needing the witty, fast banter and unique characters.

The two MCs meet accidentally in Roatan, Honduras after a zip line trip goes wrong, and it just keeps going. Initially the two hate each other, but it's a romance, so you see where this is going. I felt the story dragged somewhat in the last 1/4 compared to the earlier bits, and I really would have loved more chemistry, but still the book held up. I loved the secondary characters of Marcus (DAD!) and Sean from Roatan, and eagerly awaited their scenes.

All in all, I give it a 4/5, I liked it, though still consider "Pitifully Ugly" my fave of this author.

Yup...this is a good one

I think Fearless has just tied Just Jorie as my favorite Robin Alexander books. Both characters were great and really funny. Their interactions and chemistry were well done. I actually laughed out loud at the part where Ellen tells Falon about Haley rupping off her shoe booties and running through the house. At that point I could totally picture that happening. It was a really great book and highly recommend it, Alexander fan or not. I really can't wait for the audio version of it

What I like about Robin Alexander's book is that anyone can enjoy it. Any age bracket can fit.
It's cute and simple, no angsty feeling. Just feel good book.

Falon Whyte just got out of a relationship, her girlfriend of 2 years left her while they're out a cruise.
She's more of a care free and a daredevil type.
A total opposite of Haley Hollis. Haley is boring and cold. Work is her life. Her parents are very strict especially her father. All her life she's very shelter. She doesn't like risk.

I enjoyed this one. I wish I could meet a real life Marcus. That would be awesome, especially if you're stranded somewhere.

Outstanding!

The beginning of this hilarious journey is when two polar opposites accidentally bumped into each other. The start of a masterpiece of chaos, lunacy and an insane adventure. Put in a load of jaw-dropping humor and you are unable to stop laughing. All characters were great, not stereotypical, full of life and crazy in their own way. I loved how they deal with all this craziness. The romance in this story was a great bonus and I enjoyed every second of it. I can't wait for the next book of this great author.

This was more of a did not finish for me. I tried. I love Robin Alexander's books but this one fell flat for me. The character's I felt were far to logical and therefore there was no chemistry there. I think part of good chemistry is throwing logic out of the window. I'm not a huge fan of angst especially if it goes on too long, but I was secretly hoping there would be some in this book in order to capture some chemistry but there was none. It ended with me skim reading to the end. The reason I have given a 3 star review as this was really funny and witty in places and it did have me smiling and laughing, but that was it.

Fallon is carefree and adventurous and oh so funny. Haley is a workaholic and afraid of everything thanks to her father. These two make the unlikeliest couple, but some how it works. All the characters are funny and the story will keep you smiling if not laughing out loud. I never want stories by Robin Alexander to end. Lori Prince does such a wonderful job narrating Robin’s books. Her voices are amazing and always fit the characters.

Everything I want in a Robin Alexander book. I laughed out loud too many times to count. The only lesfic author who makes me laugh as much is Colette Moody and I adore her work. Hmm... Think it might be time for a reread of one of Moody's books now... But everyone who likes Alexander's work should immediately read this one. Now.

Falon and Holly are stranded on Honduras thanks to not making it back to their cruise liner after a trip off-board. After what seems like a rocky start, these two begin to really bond and before long, sparks well and truly fly. When they get back to their lives they have to find a way to incorporate their old lives with who they have become together.

I don’t think I have ever read a Robin Alexander book I did not like. But this one felt like it was up there with the likes of my favourite ‘Just Jorie’. It just ticked all the Alexander boxes I’ve grown to know and expect.

I really love how Robin Alexander divides up her novels. I am never left with a feeling of needing less or more, she just nails her writing style every time and thats why I know that every novel will end up on my favourites shelf.

Falon made me laugh from the get go. She’s creative, adventurous and a truly good person, how could Holly not fall for her. The moments in the lead up to them getting together were hilarious. Although I have to say that Holly was my favourite protagonist. Once she set her mind on Falon she was all in and she just went for it, even to the extent of laying her feelings out in the open in the hope they were reciprocated. The moments these two had alone were what great romances are made of, featuring loving and tender intimacies that were also sexy and fun.

Again Robin Alexander writes awesome secondary characters that bring the humour and levity that is her signature. Falons receptionist, Del and the moments where she is the focus are nothing more than hilarious. I honestly think Robin Alexander missed her calling as a stand up comedian because some of the lines and stories she pulls out of her hat are just fantastic.

Another hit for Robin Alexander. Can’t wait for what comes next. 5 Stars

Fallon and Haley are complete opposites but end up stranded together while on a cruise. After some expectation adjustments on both sides they become more than friends but when reality returns after they are back home in New Orleans they have to learn to communicate to make it work.
I always love Robin Alexander's books, I know I can be guaranteed a good laugh or two while I fall for the wonderful characters. This one was even more funny than usual and I loved it. I did the audio version of this and Lori Prince's voices were spot on and she made the book even more immersive. This book just makes you feel good so please read it or listen to it. It will be one I will be re-reading for sure.

I had such high hopes for this one after loving Love from A to Z. But it just didn’t work for me. I found it monotonous in its pacing, always played for laughs. It created some fun characters, but I just didn’t like any of the mains or ever felt that they were in any way real.

First and foremost, mad props for a book set in Roatan. My wife and I spent considerable time there between 2009 - 2016. I’ve done hundreds of dives there and every week there feels like summer camp, but with frozen drinks and Barena Beer. If I could post a picture here to show how beautiful the island is, I would.

Second, this is a classic Robin Alexander novel. The banter between Falon and Haley is top notch. There are no sassy meemaws in this book, just sassy MCs. It’s opposites attract, but then they discover they balance each other out. The spice happens in the first 50% of the book, and frankly, I was wishing for more.

It’s super fun and a perfect summer read.

Just what I expected: funny with quirky characters. Haley Hollis, orthodontist, with a focus on career, and not much of a risk taker. Falon Whyte, sculptor, career is a blast, and very much a risk taker. They meet under unique and funny circumstances. This read is about having fun and going along for the ride while stopping every so often to think about the decisions made and why. Falon is a riot as she engages in various risk taker activities. Falon is not much of a risk taker but she is willing to push herself outside her comfort zone. Each person has a best friend and they are important to how the story unfolds. Falon's father is quite the character as he works to keep his daughter safe. He also reminds me of that commercial where the guy asks are worried about becoming your parents.

The first half of this book had me laughing out loud, more than once. Then the humour got old, and I hate saying that, as I love wit and humour. But this was over the top.

Just once, I wanted these two to be serious. And then when I was like, naw, yes a sweet moment, another joke had to ensue. It has to be hard to maintain a relationship when you always have to be on fire.

I'm glad I read this book, I would recommend it, but I don't think this author is for me. Or perhaps the entire romantic comedy genre just isn't my thing.

Pretty typical Alexander book. It's funny and engaging. The characters are likable. I was about halfway through and I realized there wasn't the typical crass, interfering older woman character, and I definitely didn't miss her! She did show up in the second half, but only in a very small dose. The first half of the book was better than the second half, but the book overall is enjoyable.
