Tsugumi Ōba (Profile in Japanese: 大場 つぐみ), born in Tokyo, Japan, is a writer best known for the manga Death Note. His/her real identity is a closely guarded secret. As stated by the profile placed at the beginning of each Death Note manga, Ōba collects teacups and develops manga plots while holding his knees on a chair, similar to a habit of L, one of the main characters of the series.
There is speculation that Tsugumi Ōba is a pen name and that he is really Hiroshi Gamō. Pointing out that in Bakuman the main character's uncle was a one-hit wonder manga artist who worked on a gag super hero manga, very similar to Gamō and Tottemo! Luckyman in all aspects. Also that the storyboards drawn by Ōba greatly resemble Tottemo! Luckyman in style.
Nice, we finally get to know why Saki wanted to die ... and it's pretty brutal. Art is still good, story is still interesting, but I just don't have much else to say. It's not hitting me differently than any of the previous volumes, but I enjoy it.
Side note: I think Nasse is up to something. She just doesn't act as "angel-like" as the others. Something's off about her.
That's it? That's Saki's backstory? How utterly disappointing.
The art continues to be gorgeous and the Story certainly is not uninteresting. I also think Angels Lebel and Nasse are interesting. The problem are the human characters, they are boring to incredible annoying and I just don't care. For the duo that came up with Light and L this feels like a disappointment
Another solid volume even do I do wonder how long this cat and mouse type game can go on.
We do get a background of a main character, and while it worked, it didn't do much for me. I felt like we've seen the whole feeling guilty for being a dick but being a good person done so many times before, and better. This came off as rather shallow try. But the stuff with the older user and his wife was all great and the art is still fantastic.
I'm torn when it comes to this series. It doesn't feel like the story isn't moving. Things are happening but by the end of the volume it still feels like the story is at the same place when the volume started.
This was nice where Mirai fights or tries to fight with Metropolitan man and we also learn Saki's backstory and it was nice but Mirai needs to grow up and he will after all he is going to be God so let's go on and Keep on Reading.
I have always loved comics, and I can and I have. I love comics to bits, may the comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more. You should also read what you love, and I hope you will always love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics, Diamond Comics, or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I just want to Keep on Reading.
This was good. I couldn't remember how the 3rd volume ended when I started it (it's been over a month since I read it), but that's ok. I probably won't remember how this one ended when reading the next one since it comes out in a month, but that's ok, too. Actually, I just read it and I can't remember how it ended, so how's that?
quick read but that was an uneventful volume. okay, it was full of action but I think that it's a strong volume all together. the story is also feeling a bit bland lately.. also, seriously? we're continuing with the costumes? ugh.
January 2018: 3.5 Stars (Shown as 3) To be honest, I'm having trouble connecting with Saki and Mirai. I don't get them as a couple, and I don't really care for them as characters yet (which is kind of weird when we're 4 volumes in?). Mirai doesn't feel realistic, mainly in his ideals, and Saki feels flat. The only character who's felt real and enjoyable to me at all yet is Mr. Mukaido. The little scene with his wife in their house was really adorable! I like how spirited he is, and kind. I'll check out volume 5 when it comes out. Hopefully Mirai and Saki get some development outside of just having a pulse that races every now and then. I'd also like to mention that I'm kind of lost, where the plot is concerned. With each individual issue that comes up, I can follow along relatively easily, but I've lost sight of the bigger picture. Also, I keep forgetting how the arrows work. Ohba and Obata have their characters talk about it like it's obvious and easy to follow, but I feel like, before jumping into so much action, they should have spent a couple of chapters establishing examples.
Platinum End, Vol. 4 continues where the previous tankobon left off and contains the next three chapters (10–12) of the on-going manga series.
After the initial parley, the battle Mirai Kakehashi and Nanato Mukaido vs. Metropoliman begins and lasts longer than anyone –including the angels expected. Apparently, Mirai Kakehashi discovered a new way to use his arrows – to block incoming arrows. While the arrows could penetrate anything made by humans, the same couldn't be said about divine weapons.
While Mirai Kakehashi continued his frontal assault, Nanato Mukaido shot Metropoliman in the back with the guns he procured. Distracted, Mirai Kakehashi could have stabbed Metropoliman with a red arrow, but it went against his belief system and hesitated just long enough for Metropoliman to escape. However, Metropoliman suit was damaged enough for Mirai Kakehashi to see his face.
The next day at school we see Kanade Uryu (Metropoliman) with bandages on his head giving a mundane excuse as how he got them. However Minamigawa, his friend, after a fashion, begins to suspects that he is Metropoliman, but keeps it to himself for now. Meanwhile, Mirai Kakehashi and Saki Hanakago are at school with Mirai Kakehashi, the outcast, looking after Saki Hanakago from afar. We see a very interesting interaction between Saki Hanakago and her friend about Mirai Kakehashi and it's not exactly positive or nice.
Later that night, Mirai Kakehashi and Saki Hanakago share a bed on her insistence, because she has a confession she has to make and she could only do it in the darkness of night through the intimacy of pillow talk. Saki Hanakago revealed that she didn't deserve live, because even though she really liked Mirai Kakehashi and they were childhood friends, she’s a coward and a people pleaser and when their class bullied Mirai Kakehashi after his parents were murdered – she joined in.
It is here where we find out how Saki Hanakago became a God Candidate. After years of bullying Mirai Kakehashi, she thought the perfect time to apologize is at graduation, but Mirai Kakehashi left rather quickly after dismissal. Saki Hanakago followed him, but was too late when she saw him jump off a roof – committing suicide. Distraught and feeling guilty, Saki Hanakago meant to drown herself in the ocean, when Revel appeared before her.
Tsugumi Ohba has written another wonderful tankobon and surprisingly he doesn't seem as loquacious as he usually is. I really like how the story is progressing and how the relationship between Mirai Kakehasi and Saki Hanakago is developing. I really like Nanato Mukaido – the only adult in the series, without him Mirai Kakehashi and Saki Hanakago would be totally lost. As always, Takeshi Obata's art is simply amazing and accentuates the text rather well.
All in all, Platinum End, Vol. 4 is a wonderful continuation of the series and I can't wait to read more. I'm intrigued to find out how the story continues.
I love these shiny covers and considering the series is crafted by the creators of Death Note I assure you I look forward to each new volume (though with so many series collected I sometimes loose track of release dates lol.)
With the explosion taking the life of Girl A and catching Nanato Mukaido now Metropoliman looms above the scene like the angel of death he plays so well. Now Nanato and Mirai must take drastic chances to avoid any more death and attempt to stop the man responsible for last volumes events. Now Mirai is a bit of a pacifist so you'll have to read how he handles this violent situation but I assure you he is not pretty and thankfully Nanato survived the blast as he takes actions in his own way to find clues about their opponent. We also get to see some normalcy in the lives of the main God candidates at this point of the story which is nice considering how violent this series can get.
We also get some history between Mirai and Saki as she confesses things that have been bothering her and how she was led to the brink of suicide before her angel chose her. It is a testament to Mirai's character as he forces her to make the decision of whether she truly wants to die still or not.
As for favorite part of the book I would have to say it is the reactions of the angels to Saki wanting to sleep with Mirai so she can talk to him. You don't want to get Nasse mad. :)
Vedremo
Well stuff is happening again. After finishing this I scoured the internet for discussion of the series and found pretty much everyone has the same things to say: There's a lot of this series that feels derivative of Death Note, the premise is interesting but hasn't really been explored in an equally interesting way, and the pacing is so slow that it really drags the whole thing down. I might drop this series till it's over and just read it all in one go because it's very unsatisfying as is.
A lot of action here. We get a battle between the known main candidates to God and we get to know why Saki was chosen as one of the candidates.
Emotion at the end as Saki opens up to Kakehashi about her secrets.
Can we take a moment to appreciate how good all the angels look? Takeshi Obata didn't just follow the traditional look. He created a more modernize look and all angels have their distinct characteristics.
Platinum End is so weird enough to work. I like the idea of angels and that angels only appear when you're ready to die...? I really want to see these 'good guys' kick their plan into action. And Kakehashi is crazy good against Metropolitan Man and we need more of those awesome action scenes. :|
