Devil's Face

Rate this book
For over 80 years, thousands of professional and amateur treasure hunters alike have been searching for the lost treasure of notorious gangster, Dutch Schultz. In 1935, the nation’s most wanted criminal was rumored to have buried cash and gold coins in a safe somewhere in the Catskills, but no one has been able to find it or even authenticate its existence.

Flash forward to today. A young woman approaches Dane Maddock and his partner, Uriah “Bones” Bonebreak, with new clues, written in code, as to where the treasure is hidden. When Maddock and Bones agree to begin the search they soon discover that a third party, a deadly party, has discovered the existence of the new information as well, and hired a professional assassin to track and kill Maddock and Bones once the treasure is uncovered.

The famed archaeologist and his Cherokee sidekick must unravel the clues and find the lost treasure knowing they are being hunted. Devil’s Face is full of mystery, intrigue and adventure, with a little light romance on the side.

PRAISE FOR MARK LEN MAYFIELD

Here is what readers have said about his previous works:

Mark Mayfield's style resonates with me on many levels. He has an easy flow and a wonderful skill in setting up the storyline and scenery. I connected with the many odd and lovable characters. I've read his previous work and his storytelling is getting better and better. I zipped through this story, anxious to find out the relationship and love story of two of the characters. You will likely race through the story because of the natural feel of the writing. It was well written, presented with clarity and leaves open for more great books by the author.

What a wonderful day it is when I find out that Mark Len Mayfield has released another book.

I thought the author did a fabulous job portraying the characters and absolutely fell in love with Ida Belle and Gertie. They literally stole the show. This book is a fast, fun and entertaining read.

Mayfield’s characters are fascinating and believable, yet atypical enough to keep the reader on his/her toes.
I believe one of the strengths of Mayfield’s novel is his use of dialogue to develop his characters and to tell the story. He often uses descriptive passages to appeal to your mind’s eye, but it’s the interaction of the characters that makes them familiar to you and keeps the story moving at its entertaining pace.

I thoroughly enjoy anything and everything that Mark Len Mayfield writes and "Devil's Face," set in the Dane Maddock Kindle World originally created by David Wood, is no exception. Once I started reading, I literally could not stop, as Dane and Bones, along with a young lady in search of the lost treasure of Dutch Schultz, begin a hunt that will bring Dane face to face with an adversary from his past. As the hunter becomes the hunted, you'll be glad you're along for the ride, as each clue, and each mysterious word of Dutch Schultz's last ramblings, bring you closer to the exciting conclusion. I absolutely love ancient relics, cryptic clues and buried treasure mysteries, and the author does a superb job with all of it. Whether or not you're familiar with the original series this is based on, don't let that stop you from the wonderful entertainment you'll get from this finely-crafted book.
