She's been in hiding her whole life. But this is the first time she's felt hunted. Haelo Marley has always known she was different. She’s practically a mermaid. But finding out that she is a candeon princess—and the key to the future of her race—has turned her life upside down.
In book two of the epic Candeon Heirs series, Haelo crosses the globe in search of her father, certain that he and the Makole fire people of Hawai’i can help identify the traitor in the palace—maybe even reveal a loophole in her seemingly decided fate to marry a man she doesn't love. But the Makole’s mysterious answers only blur the lines of who she should trust.
Time is running out. The traitor is helping a power-hungry usurper scour the oceans for her, and Haelo can only hope that honing her candeon-born abilities and learning more about the enemy will be enough to prepare her for the battles she’ll have to fight. Can she be true to herself and to her people at the same time? Or will fate require a sacrifice greater than she can bear?
This book is part of a series meant to be read in order. You can find Book One, Hiding Haelo, here in the Kindle store.
In a letter to Mrs. Broyles, my third grade teacher, my eight-year-old-self declared I would be a writer. That desire was shadowed by other dreams and goals, and by college was forgotten. In my last few semesters, while in an elective creative writing course, I started writing Haelo, a rough draft that still makes me blush.
I graduated with a Bachelors from BYU-Hawai’i in World Music Studies, studying composition (the surprisingly useful hippie degree), and then an MPA in Public Policy from Grand Canyon University (the practical degree).
Though writing novels is my go-to creative outlet, life stays pretty busy with motherhood to my three minions, various music endeavors, church service, and home renovating. I live in my dear home state of Arizona with my incredible husband and three kids, and only sometimes wish we were back in Hawai'i.
My dream job, (besides writing novels from a hammock in the forest, of course) would be movie score composing. I'm a total fan girl for Hans Zimmer and Martin Phipps.
I'm also a sucker for watermelon, chips & salsa, and a great pair of aviator sunglasses.
I love this series so far, and don't know how I can wait for the third book to come out. The romantic tension between Dagger and Haelo is just so good!
There really weren't any dull moments, and the action kept things moving right along. I like that Griffin (the prince/fiancé) isn't portrayed as a "bad guy" and he truly seems to want what's best for Haelo (is this a trick?)
I'm pretty sure I've guessed what's going on with Dagger, and I hope that doesn't ruin my opinion of him. Ugh, I really hope the next book is closer than a whole year away!!
So so good. I couldn't put it down. Basically, I got sucked into the writing and the story. That hasn't happened for me for a long time and it was certainly welcome. I cannot wait to read the next book.
Guys...I am an avid reader but don’t normally review books. But I can’t let this one pass without saying something, and the word that keeps coming to mind is “Wow!” The author has opened up a fresh, new, EXCITING world that I immediately became wrapped up in and couldn’t (and didn’t want to) escape. The characters are real and so well written, the scenery and descriptions are vivid and breathtaking, and the plot and storyline is believable and developed and keeps you turning pages well into the wee hours of the morning. I’m so impressed. Way to go Tara! Now to find something to keep me distracted until the next book comes out... it’s going to be a long wait!
I'm not a huge fan of love triangles, however I am aware that they can serve a very real purpose in pulling a reader into not just a story, but the emotions of the characters. When done well it’s almost impossible to choose a side, you can’t be “team” either because of how invested you are in all the characters. T.M. Holladay has you so invested in not just the characters but the outcome of all the Candeon’s that it’s an impossible choice. The cliff hanger was done so well that instead of being annoyed that it's over, I'm just super excited for the next installment. https://bookconfessionsblog.wordpress...
Working through the first book was definitely worth it for this book. The pacing was good, we got to know the characters much better, and Haelo herself became a much more sympathetic character (to me at least). I also enjoyed the bits of the Candeon society we got to see, like the pola messages and the whirlpool game. I also thought the author did a much better job at building the tension throughout (at some points, I was definitely on the edge of my seat!). She also did an excellent job at describing what it would actually be like to be in the ocean (the deep ocean part gave me goosebumps). Overall, I enjoyed this book and it has me ready for the next one!
Okay this book was even better than the first one!! And I think it's mostly because Haelo transformed from the whiney butt she was in the first book to a freakin badass and I AM HERE FOR IT. Sure she still makes some stupid decisions, but she is a powerhouse and she is growing as a character and it was awesome. Also the tension between her and Dagger was *insert fire emoji*. The plot was incredible and I literally had to set the book down sometimes because my heart was beating so hard from the STRESS T.M. Holladay put me through with battles, love, loss, etc. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, and would definitely recommend!
The 2nd book of the Candeon Heirs book did NOT disappoint. Haelo Hunted is a story of a strong young woman accepting her royal fate. I love following Haelo, rooting for her and seeing her grow into such an important position. I am so looking forward to the third and final book.
I love that these books are clean and hold my attention. I have to make dinner and get out of my pajamas people.
Hey TM- I'll give you another 5 out of 5 birds for Haelo Hunted the second in your installment. I'm still comparing this series to The Selection series because it keeps me coming back for more of that love triangle. This is an indie book (self published) and so it's not exactly what you would see from a publisher currently. What I'm getting at is, this book is clean and innocent- which is rare in the world of books- at least the ones I read. The characters continued to develop and the story kept me coming back enough for the the third book, which I purchased. This is a great teen angst series.
If you liked the first installment of this series, buckle up. The second book gives us more to like and admire about Haelo since we get to see her in action more! The political unrest and war-like happenings are well done and we get more depth to tertiary characters, which is definitely a plus here. I loved this book and and cannot wait until T.M. Holladay writes the sequel!
I enjoyed the creativity in this series, but felt the pacing was very slow in the middle, then suddenly picked up at the end. I'm excited to see where all of the characters' relationships go and how they will develop over the series.

So many book series have the pitfalls of the second book not being as good as the the first........Haelo Hunted ain't got that problem! If anything it is even better than the first. More character development, intrigue, romance, fighting and SASS! I cant wait to read it again and again!
Great action and twists! Thoroughly enjoyed watching Haelo's development, and Dagger...eep!! I'm impressed with the detail of world-building and the complexity of the relationships--both personal and political. I'm already busily speculating where this story is going to take us next!
For some reason, I had a hard time getting past the first few chapters. Once I read past those, I was enthralled with the story. It is very creative and magical, and, of course, has a great love triangle that is now characteristic of most YA novels.
Really good book with a cool story line. This book is better than the first in my opinion (which is definitely a good thing). It’s filled with a lot more action and it doesn’t start out slow—right off the bat it is full of action and adventure!! Love it!
(Dec 16, 2019) This is my second time to read this book and I was, again, swept up into this story. So much chemistry, action, mystery and even some funny moments. I love all these characters so much. Now, I’m ready for book 3, which hopefully comes out soon!!! ———Ok, so you know that feeling of reading a really good book that you can't put down, you go to bed late reading, have dreams about the story line, and then wake up early to read (before having to take care of kids) because it's that good? Well, this is that type of book. This series is just soo good and I have no clue how I'm supposed to wait for the third one. Lol If you haven't read the first one, then read that one first...these definitely shouldn't be read out of order. Now to the story...I don't want to ruin the plot line but Dagger...sigh...and Haelo is awesome...and the story line is clean but this second book does have some battle/fighting scenes but I'd say it's very pg13. Anyway, I'll just be over here already missing the characters from the book. ;)
