Rate this book
Corruption, murder and a missing girl: routine for Cliff Hardy - except this time it's personal.

Cliff Hardy is stunned to get a phone call from his ex-wife Cynthia. It's been over 20 years since she last shouted she never wanted to see him again... and she was never a woman to change her mind. But that surprise is nothing to the bombshell Cynthia is about to drop. Dying of cancer, she's desperate to get in contact with the daughter she gave up for adoption - and the daughter in question, she confesses, is Cliff's!

A shocked but sceptical Cliff agrees to search for their missing daughter. But this is never going to be a straightforward investigation...

Another great Cliff Hardy adventure. Suspenseful plot with lots of emotional issues. Really enjoyed the personal touch to this one as Cliff deals with an old relationship and the possibility of being a father. Highly recommended for Cliff Hardy fans.

Cliff Hardy discovers he has a daughter, given up for adoption by his ex-wife - no spoiler alert since this info is on the ‘taster’ of the back cover. his ex-wife is now dying and wants him to track her down.

Set in the years not long before the Sydney Olympics, this pivotal novel in the series looks back and set Hardy up for someone who could be a key new character in his life.

Not bad, at least I heard it all. Sent the previous 3 back after only a short time.

One of the "deeper" & better Cliff Hardy books - relatively introspective with Cliff considering his family & partner relationships. Still with everything I love about the series: fast pace, clear narrative arc, great witty dialogue & social commentary.

Corris spins a yarn with the best of them. I can't add anything of consequence to what other reviewers have said. This is a poignant story with a solid plot and some engaging characters, especially Hardy's ex-wife's son. If you have enjoyed this series so far, you will enjoy this one as well.

Easy read.
A couple of things I didn't like.
1. When a person keeps the paper away from one's face they are far sighted, not short sighted.
2. I didn't like that short not at all dramatic scene in the floods. Considering it's impact on the book
That scene left me cold. There was just very little to it.

Very typical of the 'Cliff Hardy' series, easy to listen to and moves nicely. About the only thing wrong, as with all books. they become dated with the passing of the years. Still I enjoyed the narrator and the plot.

This does carry an 'M' rating for language as many of Peter Corris' books probably should.

A pretty strong one, after a more flawed one.
