Listening length: 7 hours, 31 minutes

One book. Two stories. A demigod and a half-demon are about to get married. Which means a week of festivities, romance, fun, and the kind of crazy drama wolf shifters are known for. When someone targets the Stavros pack, everyone bands together to fight an unknown enemy and two couples will fight for their chance at happily ever after.

She’s not looking for a mate…

Rhea is a warrior. She’s bled and fought for the Stavros wolf pack for over a hundred years. She never expected to fall for the Alpha of a dragon clan. But when her past comes back to haunt her, she finds herself working side by side with the very man whose been staring in all her fantasies. She never wants to get mated because she’ll never risk getting someone she cares for killed. Not again. So she convinces herself that they have something fun and easy, no strings attached.

But he’s playing for keeps…

Conall, Alpha of the Petronilla clan, has been biding his time claiming his future mate. At fifteen hundred years old he’s patient and cunning. Except when he’s around Rhea, years of civilization are stripped away and all he wants to do is possess her, make her his forever. But something happened in the stubborn woman’s past and she’s determined to keep walls between them. It’s a good thing he’s a dragon. He’ll just burn down every last barrier between them and claim what’s his. But someone from her past is threatening her and her pack—and the life of the woman he’s waited a lifetime to make his own.

* * *

Shifters, vampires and dragons are real…

A year ago Liberty had no idea that things that go bump in the night actually existed. But supernatural beings are real. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg in her new reality. Saved from a Hell realm by a team of half-demons and a demigod, she finds herself falling for her sexy rescuer Rory more and more every day. She’s worried she’s too broken to ever have a relationship again, but the more time they spend together, the harder it is to deny her attraction.

And when they choose a mate, they don’t give up easily.

Half-wolf, half-demon Rory has been looking out for Liberty ever since rescuing her from hell. And since she’s the wedding planner for his half-brother’s wedding, he sees her all the time. Not to mention he just happens to spend every night in her bed. Unfortunately he’s in wolf form when he stays over. He’s not sure what it’s going to take to move from friend to more, but he’s willing to wait forever if that’s what it takes. Because Liberty is worth fighting for, and he’ll do whatever it takes to make the brave survivor his.

Oh Le Sigh. I've said this once/twice/thrice about this series, and I will continue to say it again and again - I HOPE I will, anyway. Reus has to write more of them first.

But anybeg!

This shit is PNR/UF perfection for me. Perfection I tell you.

Because anything paranormal?
Mixed with some Urban Fantasy?
With a huge side of "we are mates, dammit" romance?

description

Oh, and one more thing...

description

Seriously though, if you follow my reviews at all, you know that I LURVE me some dragons.

Seriously though.

description

LADY BONER.

I enjoyed the shit out of this thing.

Because DRAGONS.

Specifically Conall.

And, as I've said before with this series...

description

With a Conall Dragon baby.

description

But I digress.

This installment actually covered two separate love stories - that of Conall/Rhea and Rory/Liberty - and it oscillated very smoothly between the two.

At first I thought this was kind of weird...

description

...but once I got going I realized this was kind of smart.

The plot line of this bad boy was a little...well, weaker than it could have been. And, quite frankly, I don't think either duo's story would have had enough steam to carry a whole book independently.

Thus, combining their stories into one book to make one solid book instead of two less than stellar ones was a smart move in my opinion.

So there's that.

I would go into the dynamics here, but those who've already read it don't need a recap, and those who aren't going to read it don't fucking care.

Other than that, I am REALLY hoping that Reus continues with this series. I feel like there is still so much potential for awesome things here.

I mean, holy dragon babies, she still has Ian - an unmated DRAGON - with whom she can work. Plus, I kind of felt like she was leading us in his direction at the end of this one.

So please, Lady Reus.

First off, I'm so happy I got the arc from the author just a few days after I read the previous book (who I also loved). I have always trouble with remembering all the names and whatnot, so reading Into the Darkness was now a pice of cake. The best part is that we not only get one story, heck no, we get to see two couples finally getting together. And seriously, they took their sweet time tying the knot. But on the other side, the sexual tension was off the charts. ;)

description

Since you have two stories in one book, I felt like the main story was about Rhea and Conall. But Liberty and Rory's story had it's fair share of attention, too. So it doesn't matter whose story you like more, basically everyone gets their fair share of attention. We even get to see some of Finn's POV, which was quite refreshing.

Weapons were offensive to her animal side but as a woman and a warrior, she appreciated the beauty of such superb craftsmanship.
...
Males were way too much trouble. Especially sexy, Alpha dragon shifters.

I liked Rhea's character. She was a very well respected warrior who knew her worth. I was so sad to read what happened to her when she was younger but at the same time glad that she now became so much more. She lost someone whom she cared for very much and didn't want to make the same mistakes again with Conall. I get her fears but there were times where I simply wanted to shake her real good. Being the stuborn female that she is, she would probably just tell me to bug off, like she did her friends. But thankfully we got one hot alpha who won't take no for an answer.

description

Man, I loved Conall. He was such a softy when it came to Rhea but ONLY when it came to Rhea. To others he was the powerful and fear worthy alpha dragon. He knew from the first time he saw her that she was meant to be his but bided his time, since he knew that coming on too strong would only drive Rhea away from him and he'd lose his chance at happy ever after for good. Eight months later, he'd done playing around and it's time he claimes what's his.

And he'd made a decision tonigh. Okay, he'd made it eight fucking months ago. This female was his. If she'd have him, he was going to claim her. In that moment, if it had been physically possible, his dragon half would have high fived him.
Oh yeah, she was going to be his.
Caveman mentality? Yep. He'd never claimed to be civilized though.

Their story is amazing. Add to all that the danger by someone from her past, the high sexual tension, all the good times from seeing characters from previous books and of course the fireworks once those two finally get together and you get a book worth your money.

Of course we can't forget about Liberty and Rory's story. We got to know them in the previous book and what Liberty had to go through was trully horrifying. It takes her a long time and some help to get up on her feet again but once she does her character starts to really bloom. We know that Rory had strong feelings for her and I loved him for being so patient and supportive with her. Seeing him sleep in his wolf form was so cute and adorable. He really helped Liberty to get over her fears and start healing again.
Oh, he's real friendly to all men that talk to his Liberty, yup, a real golden boy.

description

Who I am kidding? Of course he wants to slaughter everyone who gets too close to her, occasionally even his brother.

"He had his hand on you and was smelling you." He said it so matter-of-fact, as if that explained everything. As if he hadn't just been trying to kill his brother.

No, but seriously, both stories are fantastic and I absolutely didn't regret reading it. If you like action mixed with PNR and romance then this book is definitely for you. So go get it! ;)

There will be a week of celebration in Biloxi, Mississippi for the marriage of Bo Broussard and Nyx. All the supernatural beings are invited including the wolves, the dragons, the vampires, the demons and the hybrids like Bo’s brothers and sister.
Weddings always create strong emotions. Thus, it is typical to have a few love stories going on.

Because in my long existence, love is the only thing worth anything. Everything else is fleeting. Everything.

Two love stories will result in mating:
1. Rhea (wolf) and Conall (dragon). It seems that Finn cannot stop the dragons from stealing his wolves. A dangerous unknown enemy who seems to know Rhea is also hiding in the Pack’s territory and is targeting Finn’s wolves.
2. Liberty (human) and Rory (half demon-half wolf). This is the first book with a human female main character. Liberty had a heartbreaking story in the previous book “Hunted by Darkness”. Rory will prove in this book that Liberty is not totally broken. It also interesting to see what happens to humans that are mated to supernatural immortal beings. My favorite story out of the two. And the hottest!

Overall a great addition to the series and I think I have already become addicted to it. Excellent series: Fast paced. Interesting characters. Solid writing. Perfect number of pages which keeps you interested but not bored.

Re-read 25th - 26th May 2019.

Two for the price of one.

It’s Bo and Nyx’s wedding week and Conall is finally going to claim his mate. Rhea can’t fight her attraction to Conall anymore and decides a fling is in order.
Her past rears it’s ugly head and the pack have a fight on their hands.

Rory is being patient but he’s determined Liberty is going to be his.

This was another fabulous read and it’s straight onto the next book for me.

4.5 - "I go where you go no matter what." Stars!

Nothing makes me happier than having a new book by Katie Reus to read. Into the Darkness is the fifth book in the Darkness series, and once again the author delivered an absolutely outstanding story.

Well it was actually two stories in that the book focusses on two separate couples, within the same timeline and their involvement in the events that happen. Rhea; wolf shifter and lead tracker of the Stavros Pack and Conal; Alpha Dragon and leader of the Petronella Clan have been circling each other for the last couple of books, but being in separate states and having large amounts of responsibilities involving their separate packs/clans makes it difficult to take their relationship beyond the friends who text and call category, there is certainly more there to be explored, just not the time available to take to investigate thoroughly, that is until an enemy from Rhea’s past emerges from the shadows, and puts her and all she holds dear very much at risk. Conal and his 'Alpha' tendencies dragon or otherwise go firmly into protector mode.

In the supernatural world things were savage, brutal.

Meanwhile, newly freed human Liberty and demon/wolf-shifter Rory are exploring more with each other, after his freeing her from the Hell realm in the latter half of the last book. We are eight months on from that now, and Liberty has worked hard to get past what she was subjected to whilst in captivity, all the while Rory has been by her side offering unwavering support, whether it be as a man during the day, and as a guard wolf, by her bed at nights. Liberty wants more than friendship now, and sets about making Rory understand that she is no longer the fragile broken woman he rescued.

"I feel like my life started the moment I met you."

I loved both these stories, and how Katie managed to interweave them with the bigger picture of the attacks on the Stavros Pack around the week long celebrations building up to Bo and Nyx’s wedding. There is a lot going on, with quite a few POV’s thrown into the mix, and at no time was I confused or struggled to move from one character to another's POV. I think that is one of the big things that draws me to Katie’s writing and books in general, in that no matter how many characters are having their say in any one story, you never not know whose head you are in and what is going on at any point. It takes skill to keep the reader in the loop, and to keep the lines between characters clear. The author always manages to keep the bigger picture of the story-line very much in the fore as swell, even though on this occasion it is actually playing out around two separate and very different couples.

Finn and Lyra play a part in this one as well, and it was great to catch up with them on a closer level, not to mention as you would expect, Katie sets up the groundwork for potential future books. I am particularly interested to see where the story goes in relation to Ian (Rory & Bo’s brother) as although a relative newcomer in series terms, he is definitely someone who I believe has a story to tell.

I love this series, I have nothing bad to say about it, as I am sure you can tell from my reviews, and I cannot wait for the next book... in fact any book from Katie to hit my Kindle!

ARC generously provided by the author via Netgalley, and it was as it always is, my absolute pleasure to provide the above honest review.

Finally we get the story of Rhea and Conall, which I’ve been waiting for since the second book, Taste of Darkness. And as an extra bonus we also get the story of Liberty and Rory who we met in the previous book.

Conall is the Alpha of the Petronilla clan. He’s a dragon shifter, who met his mate when he went looking for his missing older brother. But he’s been biding his time in claiming her, because Rhea is stubborn and he can tell that something happened to her in her past, making her erect walls around herself, trying to keep everyone out. But he’s patient, fifteen hundred years has made him so, so he bides him time, befriending her. But finally the time has come for him to claim what is his.

Rhea is a warrior. She’s tough and can kick-ass with no problem. But because of what happened to her many years ago, she doesn’t want to risk falling in love because she doesn’t want to get another person she cares for killed. So she ignores what she feels for the Alpha of the dragon clan, even though all she wants is to make all the fantasies she’s been having of sexy Conall real. But then her past, which she thought dead, has come back and she will have to fight together with her pack and Conall to put the past to rest forever, or lose the man she has fallen for.

I just loved the romance between Conall and Rhea. Conall was so sexy with his protectiveness and alpha attitude. And I LOVE dragons, so that just made him ever more delicious ;-) I also loved that Rhea was this kick-ass warrior. As I’ve come to expect from this series, the romance was sweet and hot and just perfectly romantic.

The plot of the story was great, with many suspenseful moments and great fight scenes. Katie Reus is really good at writing suspense, and this book was no exception.

Then there was Liberty and Rory. In the previous book Rory, together with his half-brothers, saved Liberty, a human, from a hell realm, where she was brutalised by supernaturals that she never knew existed. And in the last eight months, she has been slowly healing and trying to overcome what happened to her. And although she is attracted to the sexy Rory, she’s afraid that she’s too broken to have more with him. But the more time they spend together, the harder it is to not give into her attraction.

Rory, a half-wolf, half-demon, has been looking out for Liberty since he rescued her. From the moment he met her, he knew what she was to him – his mate. But he knows she needs time to heal from what happened to her, so he’s been there for her as her friend. And he’ll wait forever until she’s ready for more.

I just loved the romance between Rory and Liberty. Rory was just perfect for Liberty, and I loved how patient and tender he was with her, knowing how broken she was after what happened to her. But luckily Liberty is brave and strong, and with the help of Rory she was able to embrace what they felt for each other, knowing that he would never hurt her.

This was another great addition to one of my favorite PNR series’. This series is a must read for all PNR lovers.

This series just keeps getting better with its crazy cast of characters. Such an eclectic mixture of werewolves, dragons and even the odd vampire but it's the half demon brothers that have really caught my interest. This book gives us two stories that are tightly bound up in each other and both feature females who have known such suffering and cruelty in their past lives. On one side is werewolf Rhea who is insanely attracted to dragon alpha Conall but it's just a friendship isn't it? Who are they kidding? Tip toe around all you like but you just know "it's getting hot in here "as the song says!
Then we also get to see how Liberty is adjusting back in the human world with the very protective Rory around. Seeing this broken female regain her confidence was the highlight of the book for me but fear not for this isn't just two romances sandwiched together as there's a rogue wolf running wild and he is determined to take over the Packs territory oh and whilst he's at it get a little revenge!
Yes it's another well written story with a fast pace and quirky characters (scary dragon queen anyone?) but it's the remaining demon brother Ian who surely must be next, after all he is half demon , half dragon so you just know his mercurial nature is about to be put to the test.
If you enjoy shifter stories than this author should be on your list . There's action, angst and sizzling chemistry in her stories and I for one love reading them. This series started out strong and doesn't disappoint , more please!

WOW!!! Who can resist two DARKNESS stories in one book?!
I sure couldn't because this was a dream came true for a über fan girl of this series like yours truly!
We really have EVERYTHING in this stories - as per Katie Reus usual and one of the reasons of my addiction to it - from love to sadness, humorous to serious and action packed scened to sweet and romantic ones, the readers couldn't ask for more, and when it's all done in a superb writing style... That's the cherry on top of an already deliciously decadent sundae!
Both couples, Rhea and Conall, and Liberty and Rory had their enticing aspects mainly their diversity, and the contrast of personalities, as well as perfect matched mates (even when it seemed most unlikely). Each character shone throught and had their special time where they revealed their strenght and specially their devotion to their other half!
Action and Romance in a Paranormal universe, who can resist THAT? And DRAGONS!!! Who can Resist those?!

Ps. Already counting down the days for the next Darkness book, because I NEED my Katie Reus PNR fix!!! February 21st can't come fast enough!!!

Into the Darkness was another enjoyable read in this series. Although not exactly my favorite it did finish up two stories from other books. We got Conall and Rhea, Rory and Liberty. I enjoyed both couples and was happy to learn more about Rhea and Liberty's past. At times I felt the story was a little repetitive but still a decent addition. I am really looking forward to Ian's book.

This had two stories in one, plus we got to see so much more of previous couples. I love getting glimpses into Victoria and Drake's lives now that things have settled for them. Same for Finn and Lyra. Although Lyra does not make an appearance very much.

Bo and Nyx are celebrating their nuptials and you do get small appearances by them. What we really get to see is Rhea and Conall's relationship, as well as Rory and Liberty. They are the main focus of book 5. Both couples could not be more different. Rhea, a warrior wolf shifter, Conall an Dragon shifter who is Alpha of his clan, Rory a wolf/demon shifter and Libert, a human.

I loved these couples and enjoyed this book but I have to admit that Arya is the one that stole the show for me. The mother dragon of Conall and Drake is bat crazy and awesome! What can I say, I'm drawn to the crazies.

REVIEW

*May contain spoilers *

The author has knocked it out of the ballpark with this installment in the Darkness Series. We get two stories pretty much. Rory who is half brother to Bo is determined to keep Liberty safe and he even goes so far as to talk to Finn about a few things. Then we have Conall who is the Alpha Dragon but who has had the hots for Rhea since they were all up at the ski lodge. Rhea is one tough female so it is going to be very hard for her to let a bit of lower for Conall.

Liberty is given something by the Queen Dragon mother herself but what is it? And why?

They are all in when it comes to taking out a rogue shifter pack who is in town and taking females. Turns out it's Rhea's past coming back to haunt her.

Fantastic book, the story is strong, the characters are fantastic. What more could you want?

I was gifted a copy of this book for my honest review.

I loved this! Two love stories for the price of one? Yes please!

Since the second book where we were introduced to Drake's brother, Conall and werewolf Rhea, I was super excited to see how things would go between them. But what I didn't expect, and loved, was that over the past several months since they met, they have become friends. A long distance friendship which was meant they talk and text every single day. I love that, because it meant their connection felt like more than just a mate one. They had a true friendship as well.

After meeting Liberty, along with the tragic circumstances of that, and Rory, who is impossible not to completely love, I was excited as well to see them heal and get their HEA.

These two stories were dark, given themes of rape are regularly brought up. However no matter how much abuse had been dished out to these women, they were strong and never fearing to find their own happiness. Liberty and Rhea were almost complete opposites, and definitely at different stages of their healing, but they were both inspiring. I loved that these heroines were who they were and that Katie gave them to her readers. Strong, fearless and resilient, but never too much. They felt real and that made this extra special.

The story was action packed, the cameos from almost every one from previous books was lovely, and the way this ended was so sweet I had a couple tears in my eyes. I most definitely recommend to fans of this series. A must read!

I didn’t expect the books in the series to get any better than the previous one (which I fell in love with) but Into the Darkness, the fifth book in the series was beyond awesome.

Into the darkness offers not one but two stories which means two different couples. In Hunted by darkness, Nyx and Bo found their HEA and in this book they are ready to tie the knot. Everyone (aka their allies) is welcome to join their week long celebrations before their wedding. However, things don’t always go according to the plan, especially with so many supernatural creatures around.

Wolf shifter, Rhea, is happy for Nyx and Bo but when an unknown enemy seems poised to ruin their celebrations, Rhea will do anything to ensure that everyone’s safe even work with Alpha Dragon, Conal. Rhea and Conal’s friendship has been developing through the last couple of books in the series but they both want more even if they are afraid to admit it. Conal has been too patient and he’s too stubborn to give up now, especially when it becomes clear that the attacks are somehow connected with Rhea’s past. He will have his mate and destroy her enemies.

If only it were that simple.

Ever since Liberty was freed from hell, wolf/demon shifter Rory, Bo’s half-brother, has been by her side. His presence comforts her but Liberty knows that it’s time she moved on from her haunting memories of her captivity. Now, eight months later she’s trying to be helpful by organizing Nyx’s wedding celebrations. But with the sudden attacks happening, Rory will once again, stay by her side and protect her. Liberty, years for more than protection from him and she will gave to make sure the wolf/demon knows that!

Into the darkness was brilliant. Katie used Bo and Nyx’s wedding in order to create two beautiful stories and bring together two amazing couples. I loved that we also got to see glimpses of the first couple in the series, Finn and Lyra, whom I adore and their daughter Vega.

I can’t wait for more. I really can’t wait to read Ian or Vega or Cynara’s story!

Into the Darkness is the fifth book in the Darkness Series by Katie Reus. It can be read as a standalone, but I strongly suggest you read the whole series for maximum enjoyment :-)

In this book we get two great couples’ stories that take place at the same time and interweave
seamlessly.

For one, we have dragon alpha Conall who will finally get the chance to make wolf shifter Rhea his mate. He has already laid the groundwork in the previous instalments but he still has to go to great lengths to reach his goal. Rhea feels responsible for the death of her former almost-mate and can’t bear the thought of losing another male she loves.

And then there’s half demon/ wolf shifter Rory who courts Liberty, a human he freed from the hell realm where he used to live. But Liberty is traumatized from the abuse she had to suffer by another demon. Rory knows it won’t be easy, but he patiently gives her the time she needs to heal until she is finally ready for another relationship.

Both couples are associated in one way or another with Finn Stavros, whose wolf pack gets attacked during a week of festivities building up to Bo and Nyx’s wedding (the last book’s couple).

As always with this author’s books, there’s plenty of action and suspense as the story unfolds and lots of hotness and steamy scenes between the respective couples.

Highly recommended if you love shifter romance. This series does not disappoint!

Rory and Liberty were sweet and adorable. Their romance was tame on heat, but there's no doubting their chemistry! Rhea and Conall, on the other hand, could burn the sheets just standing by each other! Each couple had their fair share of hurdles to face, and it was one page-turning ride to see how they'd fare. The added suspense from Rhea's past gave a nice edge to the dual romantic storyline, and I liked how seamlessly Reus wove everybody's stories into one smooth read.

Every time I pick up a book by Reus I know I'm in for a rollicking ride in the Darkness series! There is never a dull moment to be found between the mischief the wolves, vampires, dragons, and the occasional demon, manage to find themselves in!

"Into the Darkness" is the fifth installment of the "Darkness" series and has two stories going at the same time, at the same place, with different characters who all come together at the climactic end.

The story picks up where "Hunted by Darkness", the fourth book, stops. Liberty and Rory are with Finn Stavros' pack because Liberty is planning the wedding for Nyx and Bo, who are members of it. Considering what Liberty went through in the fourth book and Rory would never leave her side once he found her, there was no way they weren't going to get together. But Liberty is broken after being in the Hell Realm and being the toy for the leader of that group. But Rory is determined to take his time with her and let her heal, no matter how long it took.

At times, it was frustrating because she was so uncertain and almost wimpy but she'd been through a lot and Rory was as patient as a saint. He never pushed her or made her do anything she didn't want to. He let her lead.

Meanwhile, Rhea and Conall are hitting it off. Both characters are from previous books. Rhea is a warrior/tracker and wolf-shifter. Conall is an alpha dragon shifter and Drake's younger brother (sorry to throw Drake in there. He is my all-time favorite character in any book. His and Victoria's story is in "Taste of Darkness"). The relationship between Conall and Rhea almost didn't happen because she didn't want Conall to die because of her and when dragons mate and their mate dies, they die, too. She already felt guilty because another shifter she was supposed to mate with died and she was powerless to stop it.

The story is that there is a rogue wolf pack living close to the Stavros pack and the leader, who is not even an alpha, wants to take down Finn and get back at Rhea because she killed his insane alpha while he was a child.

To say anything past that would involve spoilers and this book is so good, I don't want to ruin it for anybody.

The two plots are separate but equal and work well. The writing is great and the story is a page turner. There are some pretty steamy scenes in it but there was love involved and it made it more than just two people getting it on because they can.

I'm hoping there is at least one more book. Bo, Rory, and Ian are half-brothers. Bo has Nyx. Rory has Liberty. Ian is alone. I'm hoping he can find somebody. Parts of this book allude to it but there was no teaser at the end for him.

Conall, the Alpha of the Petronilla clan, knows Rhea is his mate. Rhea a warrior who had lost her betrothed before is not denying she feels something for Conall, but she knows her job is a dangerous and if she takes Conall as a mate, she puts him in danger. With a threat no one expected, Rhea stands firm on her decision but Conall plans to change her mind.

Liberty was brutally abused and rescued, Rory a half wolf and half demon knows he wants Liberty as his mate, but can she breakdown the walls she has surrounding her. Not to mention there are mixed signals on what each other wants from one another.

This is one story but two intersecting plot lines. I liked Liberty and Rory's story best. New to mme series but I found this very intriguing, will go back and start from the beginning.

I LOVED BOOKS 1-3! LOVED THEM. These last two would have been stronger had the conflict/action scenes been secondary to the love stories at play and fallen into the background (maybe even fading to black) and instead followed the format of the first books. I'm kind of new to paranormal reads but have to admit having enjoyed exploring this whole world the author created. Having said that, were the characters not loveable, this book likely would earn a much lower rating. This book left off not with a huge cliffhanger but definitely with an opening for future books. I have to say, I'm looking forward to Ian's story. But please....less fighting, more love stuff.

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! I bought this book back in 2016, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I own this whole series and many other books by Katie Reus!

The cover is very conservative except for the tiny dragon icon in the title you wouldn’t know this was a paranormal book.

This is the 5th book in the series, and it is definitely for adults only due to the steamy content!

This was an outstanding story of Conall and Rhea getting together, but also Liberty and Rory. I read this months ago, but never got around to my review. Life gets in the way sometimes. I love this world and how the paranormals…well the good ones anyway…work together. I would love to live in this world. Katie Reus is a fabulous story teller. I always get lost in her stories and want to do nothing else. This was a fantastic read! Always something happening, and I never want to put the book down. I can’t wait for read more of this series!

I highly recommend to any paranormal romance fans because you can find everything in her books!! Loved it!!

Two romances told as we party towards Bo and Nyx's wedding day. Rhea is a warrior and doesn't need anyone, but Collan doesn't let her get away. Plus Bo's brother, Rory, falls for Liberty who they rescued from Hades. Liberty overcomes a lot, and returns Rory's love.

3.5-4 stars

Pretty good story. This story revolves around the wedding celebrations between Bo and Nyx. During these celebrations, Rhea & Conall and Liberty & Rory get together.

Rhea is a wolf shifter that is part of Finn's pack (the hero of book #1). She's a warrior and tracker for the pack and likes being a strong woman. Part of the reason Rhea is determined to always be tough is because when she was younger, a stronger shifter male killed her fiance and kidnapped her. Rhea went through horrible things until she managed to kill the male and escape. Since she lost the man that was supposed to be her mate, Rhea hasn't allowed any men to get close and doesn't want a mate.

Conall is a dragon shifter (brother to Drake, hero from book #2) and alpha of his dragon clan. Conall was engaged to another dragon shifter a while back but she met another man and threw Conall over for him. Conall didn't love her so he wasn't emotionally hurt but he had no interest in finding a mate...at least until he meets Rhea.

Conall and Rhea met a while back but Conall could tell that Rhea wasn't willing to be pursued overtly so instead, he became her friend. They talked regularly and saw each other occasionally but with the wedding festivities, Conall ends up in town and around Rhea for well over a week. Rhea tries to hold up against her need for Connal (and almost does) but Conall is determined to win her. There's some difficulties that arise but Rhea and Conall handle things together (which helps Rhea realize just how good they are together) and then end the story starting a HEA together.

Liberty is a human woman that is a party planner. She got pulled into a hell dimension when two of her clients ended up being evil women that wanted to sacrifice her for a spell and ended up getting them all trapped in the other dimension. She went through horrible things until she was saved by Rory and his brothers.

Rory is a half-wolf shifter/half-demon that is brother to Bo (hero from book #3). Rory and his other brother, Ian, had been partners for year, usually just having each other for company. They spent most of their time living in a hell dimension but also lived in the human realm at times as well. Rory's wolf recognized Liberty as his mate as soon as he saw her. Unfortunately, since she'd just been saved from a demon that had kept her captive and raped her over and over, Rory realized right off he'd have to be patient with her.

When the story begins, Liberty and Rory have been together for the 8 months since she was rescued. He even sleeps with her every night....but in his wolf form. They're both attracted to each other but it's taken some time for Liberty to get used to and comfortable with her wanting Rory. By the time the wedding rolls around, Liberty has had enough of being (what she considers) weak and wants to move on with her life, hopefully with Rory. She just has to get the courage to tell him because Rory is willing to do whatever is needed to help her and be with her. It takes a bit but Rory and Liberty are able to deal with their obstacles and end the story starting a HEA together.

This was a pretty enjoyable story. I liked both couples but I do have to admit that neither couple's story really seemed full enough to have their own book so part of me thinks it's best that they shared a book. However, there were a couple of things that seemed to have been skimmed over and I can't help think that the stories still needed a bit more to fill things out completely. Overall, the story was enjoyable and I liked seeing how things worked out for the couples. I really liked the series as a whole and would recommend it. :)

* note - I listened to the audio version of the story and the narrator did a very good job.

A LOVE WORTH FIGHTING FOR!!!

Conall Petronilla, Alpha of the Petronilla clan has been taking his time in claiming his future mate, Rhea. The two met when Drake came back from he!! in book 2 of this remarkable series. Conall loved everything about Rhea especially her strength and huge heart. But she was keeping her heart guarded.

Rhea has been fighting to keep the Stravos Pack safe for centuries, she wasn't looking for a mate let alone fall for the Alpha of the Petronilla clan. But she couldn't get him out of her mind, he evoked feelings in her that she thought were long gone. Her wolf had other ideas.

There was something holding Rhea back, Conall could feel it yet he never pushed her. When an enemy from the past threatened the Stravos Pack, and the woman who held his heart. Conall and his dragon did everything to protect their mate and their loved ones.

Liberty was help captive in another realm by a half-demon, she was saved by three half-demons, Bo, Rory, Ian and a demigod, Nyx. She went through a traumatic ordeal yet she couldn't help how she felt whenever she was Rory. Her savior cause that what he was to her, he killed those who harmed her.

Rory was a half-demon, half-wolf who preferred to live in other realms instead of the real world that was until he met the beautiful, Liberty. She was stronger than she knew and his wolf wanted her as their mate.

Rory helped Liberty heal her heart, body and soul when they and their loved ones found themselves in danger, Rory, his new found siblings and friends came together to fight the enemy.

Two heroines who had traumatic pasts, the two heroes who loved them in spite of their pasts, and a love story that proved the saying " LOVE IS PATIENT ".

INTO THE DARKNESS was captivating, two couples finding love and fighting for that love amidst the chaos and war. With family and friends gathering to celebrate the union of Bo and Nyx as they say their "I Dos". LOVE kept on blooming, it was everywhere.

Katie Reus gave me what I wanted and much more, she made me fall in love all over again with the characters I already knew and loved. Added new ones and together they all pulled at my heartstrings. 10 stars (cause 5 stars wouldn't do this book justice) and a recommendation to get this book right away.

One word comes to mind when I think of this book.... MASTERPIECE !!

Into the Darkness is the 5th book in this fantastic series and let me tell you they just keep getting better and better!

Initially I was cautious on how this will play out considering were getting 2 couples in one book, how will she fit the entire courtship, bickering, the hotness and make it not feel rushed? alas, I should not have doubted Katie this was another book that blasted all my doubts away.

Conall and Rhea was too cute,Conall was so sexy when he teases Rhea, also
I loved how supporting and patient Conall was. Rhea has a dark past and he allowed her to do what she had to to get past it. He was sweet yet we still get our growly alpha too! yippee!

Liberty and Rory, as you know Liberty has been through the ringer and Rory just wants to protect her. we see all his protectiveness in the forefront. Liberty is so strong, she pushes herself to move on and don't let her past dictate her life going forward. that's the thing I love about Katie's books I don't think I've ever read a heroine that has been TSTL (knocks on wood)

and of course we get the gang and their shenanigans. I can't express how much I love this world she created where we get so many mythical creatures and hell realm and magic and hot hot men! Whoop whoop I'm so ready for the next book Katie! bring it on!

This book has two stories in it the first Rhea and Connall the next is Liberty and Rory. Their stories are intertwined so I devised an easy way to read what I think about the couple's:

RHEA AND CONNALL:

I love dragon shifters, and Connall is such a damn caveman, “you’d look good in a flapper dress.” Or any dress. Or out of any dress. He couldn’t take his gaze off her, knew all the heat he felt for her was in his eyes now." Connell doesn't like to be interrupted while spending quality time with his woman the man goes full on caveman, "the knocking incessant and aggravating. Conall growled, baring his canines as if ready to attack. She felt the feral dragon rippling under the surface, felt the exact same way right now."

LIBERTY AND RORY:
Rory is possessive and doesn't like others touching, smelling and probably talking to his woman, “he had his hand on you and was smelling you.” He said it so matter-of-fact, as if that explained everything. As if he hadn’t just been trying to kill his brother."

I liked seeing these possessive men, nothing makes a girl feel more wanted than that.

This rating is solely based on a personal preference rather than the writing of the book - which is top-notch. It has two distinct storylines running simultaneously throughout, and I much prefer one specific storyline with secondary characters staying second.

And, even though both stories get pretty much equal time, Rhea and Conall’s story is the one the overall arc of the series revolves around so is still, by far, the dominant. Finn and Liberty’s story stay distinctly as a romance-only and really deals with little else.

The format has a chapter with one couple then a chapter or so with the other couple. But along with that, there are pages inserted into it that also jump from present to past. All that bopping around I found seriously annoying. I would just get involved in one storyline then it would suddenly end and I’d be reading the other. Then, as I’m reading that one, I was suddenly thrown into the past. GAH! I LOVED the characters, loved the stories, just didn’t like the format in which they were written - at all.
