Quinn Langley knew her mother didn’t have long to live. Soon it would just be her and her little sister, Carmine. Nearly recuperated from her own injuries, Quinn knew the first order of business would be to find a job and get out of Danburn and Kendrick’s hair.

Danburn had invited his friends to his home to spend the holidays, and that included his good friend, Hanson McClain. Hanson’s parents had run off and left the estate in a shamble and near financial ruin. It had taken Hanson months to repair the damage, and he was ready for a break.

Quinn had no idea that her cousin, Kendrick, was mated to a dragon, and that she and her sister were the only humans in the house. And now, the handsome stranger, Hanson, also a dragon, had claimed that she was his mate. It was time to leave. The ever practical, Quinn didn’t want solutions just handed to her on a silver platter. She’d make it on her own. But in life things don’t always go as planned. Like it or not, Hanson’s parents were a problem she’d be forced to deal with, and she discovered her sister, Carmine, had abilities Quinn didn’t quite understand.

Thrust head first into a world of immortals, Quinn found she had a whole new set of problems. Now, the first order of business would be to protect her little sister and hopefully not die in the process.

Hanson is coming to the castle for the holidays. Not only is he one of Danburn's college friends but he's considered one of the family after all these years. Lucky for him that he had them during all this time because his own family was two of the most despicable, narcissistic people ever created. To such a degree they killed Hanson's twin sister by siphoning her magic until she was too weak to even defend herself. On the day he arrived at the English castle he met his mate, a human, and her younger sister. If you've been following the storyline then you'll remember Quinn who was shot by a state worker when she went to apply for some type of aid for her mother and sister. That's when Kendrick brought them to the castle so Quinn could heal and recuperate. Carmine, Quinn's little sister, surprisingly has some amazing powers that come to light. It seems no one knew about them but their mom and she has since passed away. All the action, adventure, drama, and angst are there as well as the loyalty of family and mates. Oh, and to add to the mix, a Vampire is introduced into the storyline so I'm anxious to see what happens with Danielle's story. This is another great addition to the series.

Quinn and Carmine stays with Danburn and Kendrick after their mom dies it is a temporary fix till she can find a place for her and her little sister. Then Hanson comes over for the holidays. He is one of Danburn's best friends that has been invited to spent the holidays. Hanson knows Quinn is his mate and is totally taken with Quinn and her sister Carmine.

Hanson's parents are the worst people that you can have the pleasure of meeting. They are just the beginning of the trouble. There is something special about Quinn's little sister Carmine. She can do things with her mind and that brings other people after her. Who wants to sell her to the military. How will they keep her save?

This book of Kathi s Barton was a surprise. I never expected how different this one would be. It the best one of the English dragon series to date. Really unsuspected twists and turns. I love all the dragon that she writes about.
How the mythical beasts a big and scary dragon can be so good and sweet. But they still have the edge of danger. Miss Barton always knows how to keep you interested in reading and wanting for more. Once you start reading this book you will try to keep on going. Because you don't want to put it down. I am guilty of falling asleep with this book in me hands. How do I do that? Well I am too stubborn to put the book down when my eyes droop. I know I will fall asleep but still will not put the book down. Then I wake up with my book on me and my glasses crooked. Every time I say to myself I will put it down on time. No luck on that one.

Quinn has completely taken on the responsibility of caring for her dying mother, and sick younger sister, Carmine. Her determination to provide for them resulted in her being severely injured. She's now recovering at the home of her friend, Kendrick, and her mate, Danburn, the dragon king.

Hanson, a powerful dragon shifter, is visiting his friend, Danburn, over the holidays. He needs to escape the horror that is his family, and the loss of his beloved sister, Jessie. He never expected to meet his mate, nor for her to be in so much pain, both emotional and physical.

As Hanson and Quinn become acquainted, and she not only adapts to a dragon shifter as her mate, but secrets about her sister and mom, they must also contend with Hanson's parents. His parents have no qualms about using whatever means necessary to get their way, which means Quinn, as his mate, is the perfect leverage.

Can Hanson keep Quinn safe? How will Quinn handle Hanson's heritage, and his parents? Is her sister, Carmine, in danger? How far will Hanson's parents go in their quest to have it all? Will Hanson and Quinn get their HEA?

One-click now and follow along as a man that's lost the only family member he loved, finds the woman struggling with her own loss.

Loved it

Hanson comes to Danburn's home for Thanksgiving and Christmas. He is happy to be spending time with the men he calls brothers. He needs their company. He is morning the death of his sister. His deadbeat parents are no where to be found. He didn't expect to find his mate.
Quinn, her little sister are guest of her cousin Kendrick and her husband Danburn, while she recovers from a gun shot wound. The loss of her mother after a long illness and the need to care for her little sister has worn her down. She finds comfort in Hanson. When she learns they are mates she doesn't thinks she is good enough.
Someone is hunting Quinn's sister for her abilities. A female vampire seeking asylum becomes Carmine's friend and protector. The pack has some fun causing trouble for Carmine's would be kidnapper. A new Dragon and her Griffoen friend and protector join their extended family.
Loved Hanson. And Quinn's story. Can't wait for Dana's story, maybe Em is his mate.

Exciting!

This book was filled with lots of exciting things going on but, I wouldn’t call any of it erotic. Nor are there many sex scenes in this book (only 1 that I know of in the mountains).

Hanson is a dragon with parents who are so selfish that they killed off his twin sister just so that they could go on trips without her. Hanson also met his mate the 1st day that he was at Danburn’s castle.

Quinn is recuperating at Danburn & Kendrick’s castle after being shot & injured. Quinn’s mother who is in the last stages of cancer & her sister, Carmine, who has some interesting gifts are there too.

The day that Quinn meets Hanson is unfortunately for her the day that her mom dies. He’s happy about meeting her but because of her mom’s death he doesn’t tell her what she means to him; instead he comforts her.

This is the beginning of their tale & it was a very good tale. As well as what Carmine can do which is part of the good bs bad plots in this book. But, now it’s your turn to read this book to find out if you agree with me.

I'm thinking something big is going to happen in this series as it seams that Danburn is collecting some pretty powerful players in his household. Hanson is an interesting character, he seems so laid back compared to the rest of the friends. However his parents fall right in line for being a waste of air. Quinn is an interesting human, she seems like she is coward but she has a strong backbone when threatened. Then there is Carmine, she is the twist you are not sure of but you really want to stay on her good side. Deceit and betrayal are heavy in the storyline making your heart hurt for several of the characters. As always there is humor that makes you laugh out loud and shake your head. I thought it was well written, easy to follow and the characters are always awesome. The storyline flows easily keeping your attention and the twist leave you wondering what this sneaky author has in store for us next.

This story for me is probably only 3.75 stars.

While Hanson and Quinn's story is good, it's not memorable for me.
Quinn is in the care of Danburn and Kendrick because she's been shot, has an ill mother, and nobody to help with her younger sister while they all recuperate.
Hanson lives with a family who believes they are above dragon law and can do what they wish whenever it benefits them. They never wanted kids and made it known to both Hanson and his sister every day of their lives.

Like I mentioned, it's a good story, and I'm glad that after everything these two went through, they were able to find each other and make each other happy. But there was just nothing memorable about it, and I found myself slugging towards the end just to finish.
