"One of the best Thriller novels written by an Indian Author." "'Professor Black is India's Jack Reacher." "You Cannot escape this thriller." "Breathtaking. Original. One of three children, Kevin was born and raised in a close-knit family in New Delhi. He was always more inclined towards sports and literature. Kevin left his schooling after the twelfth standard to study story-writing and after two break years, returned to complete his education from the CBSE Board. After school, Kevin pursued his childhood dream and studied Major in Film Direction. He went on to direct a Hindi feature film, several short films and music videos. In the winter of 2013, he finally decided to turn one of his oldest written film screenplays into a fully-fledged English novel. That is how, ‘Let Me Go: The Last Love Story of the Universe’, his first English novel came to life. He currently resides in New Delhi and is working on his second book.
A serial killer, Kansa, had murdered forty pregnant women before vanishing. He has returned again and somehow his latest victim has managed to escape.
Now enters ACP Saargi Desai – a devoted cop who will go to any length to bring Kansa to justice. She manages to convince the Police Commissioner to allow her to bring in Professor Black to so help.
The cover of the book says that “Professor Black is India’s Jack Reacher.” This Professor Black is a few steps ahead of Reacher, quite a few steps in fact. If Reacher is Sherlock Holmes meets Rambo then Black is Holmes, Rambo, Bond, Dexter combined.
The author describes him as six foot one bachelor who has a Greek god physique , women find him irresistible, he is a gold medalist in criminology and the best professor in the field. The Professor is dangerous in physical combat, tortures & kills his foes and dispenses his own brand of justice. He has a terrible temper and needless to say considers himself beyond any rules or laws. I found it hard to digest what compromise Saargi was prepared to make to bring in the Professor. Also the fact the cops put up with Black’s temper and attitude is too much to swallow. I am not even going to the Professor's fighting skills.
Needless to say Saargi and the Professor soon develop feelings for each other.
The story is full of action, gore, fanatical murderers, conspiracies, shoot outs and the usual ingredients of such pulp fiction thrillers. There are larger than life characters and hyperbolic dialogues.
The mystery element is decent and I liked the twists at the end.
One major flaw in the book is the contradiction in details about a character’s death. Two different ways of death have been mentioned for the same person.
Overall, the book did provide some thrills. It reminded me of the good old pulp fiction novels I had read a long time ago. I might have enjoyed it more while in school.
Kansa by Prassant Kevin, A blue thriller. This is the one plain thriller I had came across which made me to engross deeply with the story. I always fond of thriller's and Sherlock Holmes. I can able to see Sir Conan Doyle in Prassant Kevin.
This is surely a nerve capturing read full of thrill, suspense and murder mystery. Talking about the plot of the book, it is very strong. It is purely biased on Professor Black, who's he? How he got into the case of kansa, India's leading serial killer. The character of professor black and his mystery solving way all reminds me holmes each and every time this make the story worth a bestseller.
The story revolves around solving of kansa's case, it have many twists and turns in equal intervals which will keep you thrilled throughout. Coming to the characters as the case have fifteen years of background it surrounds of many little characters than major characters. All have its equal importance and interconnected to each other in a surprising manner which is very amazing and impressive.
I need to share my first impression it is blurb and I'm satisfied with the whole novel in end, it is as promising as blurb.
Overall, Kansa is a perfect thriller with intriguing plot. I like to recommended this to all thriller lovers. Also I'm waiting for its squeal badly now, It's that much interesting.

description:- Kansa” is a novel by Prassant Kevin. It is the put your name down for one of the Killer Trilogy. I actually can’t express gratitude an adequate amount Prassant Sir for journalism this thoughtful of overwhelming super thriller and for as long as me a hardback myself signed by him in chat of honorable review. I got therefore a great deal addicted into this hardback as analysis that I exactly did halt alert a full night precisely to put out of misery it. Oh.. could you repeat that? a reserve it is!!! Before proceeding additional about the book, I would like to round about that, the facade comprise of the paperback is one of the greatest and single and proper I give seen consequently far. The shelter is fighting fit a sufficient amount tempting to cut this sign up up. I am interpretation for the number one time any order that is available by Inked business Publication. The title “KANSA” is on the dot apt for this put your name down for as apiece the story and it is no hesitation distinctive I necessity say. The language of this tome especially a lot lucid, straightforward I know how to roughly and nearly all importantly, the narrating smartness of the dramatist is subsequently greatly absorbing that it ended the book lovers glued to this manuscript and the manner of unfolding is one of the chief a large amount activist points of this book. Readers won’t be capable to speculation about the approaching twists and turns anywhere. specially a few moments are in black and white in accurately breath intriguing way.The theme of the put your name down for is nervousness crime thriller and it contains buzz at its peak. Characterization:- depiction is exact able-bodied and to the dot here. Not simply had the central character (Professor Black), the others font (i.e. – Maher, ACP Saargi Desai) are plus to be had without any amplification and wholly portrayed. completely the typescript did adjust to their respective roles till the awfully end. Review:- The story goes like this- A soap killer named ‘Kansa’ did kidnapping of 40 pregnant women and murdered them alongside with removing their still to instinctive babies. It was not impartial any clash of a month or a year. It was continual to crop up over a decade (10 years). After assassination brutally, in attendance came a time after he moved out abruptly and no one was competent to find smooth a modest smidgen draw about him. as soon as all and sundry happening judgment that it was the terminate of ‘Kansa’ epoch and heaved a sigh of relief, simply in that time, after 5 years, he is posterior in settlement with his dreadful deeds and this time he besieged Maher. But with her providence by hook or by crook Maher managed to getaway from him and in a while after providence finished her gather Saargi (ACP Saargi Desai), she narrated the total occasion to her and Saargi got that just spot on. steady she ended up her psyche and contacted the literal aptly one to disentangle this indictment and to lay bare Kansa in obverse of free to put an side into his brutality. The merely character who may perhaps create Kansa into his real identify was Professor Black. Professor Black had a past, relatively unlucky onwards I preserve say, in his beforehand rostrum of life. future finished him the personality he is now but he had scholarly this by the unbreakable technique and it did expenditure a assortment to him. After got swayed by Saargi he fixed to do on this defense and after the first investigation, he realized the ‘Kansa’ is the hardest pepper to solve, level for him. After Professor Black finally got himself into this whirl, one after an alternative shock and unexpected twists were awaiting him and that ready him faced the toughest challenge in his kick as a result far. could you repeat that? happened after that? Will he be competent to dash Kansa at last? pardon? was the disastrous older of Professor Black? could you repeat that? were individuals clothes that ready the justification upside down completely? To be acquainted with completely these answers, completely grab your mimic of the hardback in the present day and birth rendition instantly. Author Prassant Kevin has finished a remarkable post by journalism this book. The route he portrayed the incidents, and coupled the dots at the looked-for point, is impressive I am substantially impressed with. No terms would be an adequate amount of to express this book. every one the thrills, twists, mystery, and the whole lot are existing in such a road that I was visualizing them factually. I be able to believe that this tin give out the toughest contest to any caste of mystery thriller book, undoubtedly. I loved to live this tome actually, and I’d like to urge every thriller lovers to desire energy through this report once. Eagerly for the future for the subsequently labor of Prassant Sir. every single one the greatest to him. express thanks you. Online Buy Link:- http://www.amazon.in/Kansa-Book-Kille...
*** Note: I won the physical copy of this book in Goodreads Giveaways. Many thanks to author and publishers. ***
This was first book in Killer trilogy, ‘whodunit’ murder mystery, full of thrill and suspense with perfect pace and great characters.
If you’re from India, you might know a mythical character, uncle of Shree Krishna ‘Kansa’ in Shree Krishna tales who was a villain famous for killing new born children of his own sister. The book is titled after that character as the serial killer of the book was faceless and nameless who was killing pregnant women and their children after birth and so media named killer ‘Kansa’.
In the span of 10 years this psycho has kidnapped 40 pregnant women, tortured them, taken their children and left them in garbage after killing them. Women are dying and children are missing. Now you’re having a picture how dangerous this psychopath is and how important it is for government of nation to catch this serial killer.
ACP Saargi knows that only one person can catch this killer, a psycho like him, gold medalist in criminology, Professor Black.
Characters- Professor Black– This dude was alcoholic, druggist and kept escort girl’s number on speed dial, weird right? But had a brilliant mind. He was gold medalist in criminology and had solved many cases that no force in government could solve, in short he was last and very certain hope in any case. Never following rules, doing everything in his own terms with only goal of solving case, rude and high-tempered, sensitive and kind for victims and his loved ones. He was brilliant throughout the book. His style of work and his instinct was admirable.
ACP Saargi– This was second most admirable character in the book. She was fierce, feisty, strong, beautiful, ethical, and dedicated to her work who doesn’t care for gossips about her, a kind of female character that I always love.
Kansa– This villain was obviously loathsome but definitely was smart. For 10 years he could carry on his killing without living a trace of evidence was brilliant. This villain was so scary that you won’t go to clinic or any other place alone.
Well-developed, strong characters and all having their life stories. Perfect characterization.
What I liked- Wow beginning of the book! A couple returning from wedding get into accident and finds most important person of the book, victim who managed to escape Kansa, alive! Without this victim I don’t think professor could have find out Kansa that easily. She had remarkable memory, gift of art and so strong will. From the very start book was very tense, gripping and made me think who was the killer and why he was committing such hideous crime.
The book was third person narrative switching from perspective of Professor and Saargi. Easy language and easy to follow made it even faster read. I loved the detailed lifestyle and life story of Professor and Saargi. What made professor ‘Professor Black’, what was the reason behind his aggressive nature and his journey to a successful and famous criminologist of nation, what inspired Saargi to become ACP and her life goal and most importantly what makes these two different from the system.
I loved the growing feelings between Professor and Saargi. That little romance and beautiful words between them, even though just for little time period, was breather in the book full of blood, misery, and craziness of killer.
One after another Professor unfolded the mystery of murders. The action and chase from both the sides during that period was exciting and thrilling. No dull moments. There was even the entry of surprising characters that helped professor in the case and also were death warrant of killer. All chapter were written with vivid description that ended with cliffhanger.
The family history of suspect was sad and touchy. After reading that part I did some guesswork, I could feel that something went wrong here, something was missing in the story told about suspect and I was right for that feeling but what I guessed as for who might be a killer, I was totally wrong at the end. Author created wonderful suspense in the book. Until climax I couldn’t find out the main reason behind all massacre and who was the killer. All was revealed only in last three chapters which were very interesting.
I loved the end of the book. The twist in the end and in last chapter was unpredictable. There was the hint of the next mystery of second book of the series that most surprising.
This was my first book by this author and I wish to read more from this author and definitely I’m going to finish this series.
why not 5 stars- I had just one concern. The motive and reason behind killing was perfectly written and explained but I was still wondering how killer executed everything and why treating victims like animal and misbehaving with when at the end he was going to get what he wanted and kill them all, and after knowing who was killer, I wonder who was speaking to victims while keeping them in captivity! I wanted Killer’s perspective for this. It would have made the book even more exciting.
Overall, it was addictive, interesting, fast read, movie material book that all crime thriller lovers would love to read.
A story with interesting plot and narration. Professor Black character was impressive. It flows smoothly with turns and twists that made story gripping and hook the reader by it's seat.
"Every crime has two sides; one is evil and other is blindness".
I am a thriller freak. I am a person who will always pick up crime/mystery novels over contemporary fiction. I read some really good crime thrillers last year by Indian Author so when this opportunity (review copy) came to my door, I couldn't refuse.
** Now , don't even compare crime mysteries with authors like Agatha Christie or Scotland writers. No that's a sin. Don't COMPARE **
Kansa is the first book in "The Killer Trilogy" by Prassant Kevin (Not to be confused with Kevin Missal who wrote Kalki because I did receive some messages for this).
Well , the blurb of the book already gives out a lot about the story so I won't get into that. But let's just get into the positive and negative aspects.
The cover is what attracted me to the book. The first question that pops in your mind is "Who is this man?" , "Is he Professor Black?" I liked the execution of the plot. Quite frequently we find loopholes in crime thrillers and it makes the experience from very good to negative but that wasn't the case with this one. The story goes in a flow and nothing is rushed or unnecessary. The author has spent a lot of time focusing on each and every aspect to make the book intriguing.
The font of the book is quite nice. It is readable and good to the eyes. The writing style is lucid. The author knows when to add a scene that will turn the tables and when to end it. That is exactly what happens at the end. The story ends at a point where I as a reader wanted more but will have to wait for the next book.
In all , I liked this book and would recommend if you like crime thrillers.
Today is Janamstmi. Birthday of Shri Krishna, who killed Kansa (his maternal uncle). Today is 15th August too, our independence day. Is it just a coincidence? ☺.
Shri Krishna is 8th incarnation of Bhagwan Vishnu. Krishna was born in prison to devout parents – Devki and Vasudeva. At the time of his birth, his life was in danger because the tyrant Kansa was seeking to kill him. It had been foretold that Kansa would be killed by Devki’s eighth child. Someone told Kansa that anyone of Devki children could kill him. So he killed all the children of Devki immediately after birth. He is personification of pure evil. Since Sri Krishna was the eighth child, he was smuggled out of prison to be raised by his foster parents Nanda and Yashoda in Gokula. That is the intent behind the name of book. A psychopathic killer named Kansa, is on the loose, who kills woman and their newborn babies. So this is apt the review is written today.
This is a mystery thriller about a psychopath who is evil incarnated. So I will not say much about the plot, as it will spoil the fun.
In the middle of night an accident takes place. A disheveled girl Mehar is hit by a car and brought to hospital. Saargi, ACP realises that Mehar might be a victim of Kansa, a psychopath. She also realise that she alone can’t handle the case and requires help of a Genius. Professor Black teaches in Mumbai and has his own ghosts. He is a troubled past which led him to alcohol and whores. He takes up case only because of Saargi. They starts investigations and find layers upon layers of intrigue. There is too much blood spilled and Black gets involved in the case personally.
Characterisation of Black and Saargi is interesting. Their back stories are given. In fact the basis of next book may lie in the past of Virat aka Black. Black has his own rules and does not always play by the law books though he teaches criminology. He is his own Police, Judge, Jury and Executioner. He is sharp, intelligent, ruthless, strong and merciless for criminals. He has his own set of rules and believes in gut instinct. He says to Saargi:
“Always remember one thing- in the business of crime and justice, a lot depends on gut instinct. You have to make choices in the matter of seconds and you have to make right ones. Do you know why? Because people’s lives depend on them. You can save someone’s life, you can stop someone from being a criminal, so that when you go home at the end of the day, the only blood that should be on your hands is of those who don’t deserve to live.”
He is compared to Jack Reacher on cover. But I feel that is injustice to Prassant. Black is original although some characteristics might be same. But then he shares some with Sherlock, Criminal Minds (the TV series), Bond and others. Still he is a interesting character and quiet original.
Saargi is a perfect foil for him. She is equally passionate about justice and putting criminals behind bars. But she does not believe in taking law into her own hands. She is attracted to Black and let him do what he wants but does not become part of that herself.
Other notable characters from book are Arjun and Mira. But you have to read the book to know more about them.
The pace of book is breathtaking. There is not a dull moment. The action starts from page 1 and is relentless till end. The story moves to all of North India -Delhi, Pune, Mumbai, Ramnagar etc. I kept guessing the identity of Kansa throughout. Prassant left clues throughout but it is not easy to pick them up.
Though there are some inconsistencies also but it will spill the beans if I list those here. So you read and decide yourself.

About the author:
One of three children, Kevin was born and raised in a close-knit family in New Delhi. He was always more inclined towards sports and literature. Kevin left his schooling after the twelfth standard to study story-writing and after two break years, returned to complete his education from the CBSE Board.
After school, Kevin pursued his childhood dream and studied Major in Film Direction. He went on to direct a Hindi feature film, several short films and music videos. Professor Black series first installment is so thrilling and exciting that I couldn’t stop myself flaunting how much I love this book. From the very first page to the very end I almost hopped into a conclusion that this very book is worth setting competition to other authors who are writing the same genre. Coming back to Kansa, the book opens up with an astounding blurb which itself is capable of making readers to grab this book. Blurb states about 40 murders of pregnant ladies and it is believed Kansa, the murderer is back to start the game all over.
Book started with the first hunt by Kansa after years and how his fear has threaten the nation. Whereas another story runs parallel, soft and beautiful relationship between Viraat and Khushi. They both were born to be together but destiny has planned something else and their story took a dark turn. Story is followed by series of events and would be no less than watching some Hollywood spy movies. After few chapters the book paced is really very fast and gripping, for some point readers would be compelled to jump to the last page but they couldn’t do that the flow is so fascinating that story cannot be skipped.
It was really tough to choose which character and portion I loved the most because with this book I lived with the story and characters. But personally enjoyed portion was reading revelation part of Kansa, another the way Professor Black solved puzzle. I cannot miss to mention “Birth of Kansa” and how everything was so frustrating at one point and another moment you loved every bit of the story. Learning about Professor Black and ACP Saargi was just amazing. I always prefer to read strong build female character and Saargi was just I imagined. On the other hand, Professor Black will alone steal the hearts of his readers because this very character is really very different yet interesting to learn about.
Language of the book was just so thrilling; I could take my eyes off once I started reading. Plot was fast paced with so much of thriller, action and suspense. Title of the story is catchy and blurb would alone make readers to pick this book. Cover is decent and relatable to the story line.
Overall I would recommend everyone to go ahead with this book at any cost. Not a second will be wasted in fact one will start reading crime fiction. I would rate this Hollywood- spy- like- book 4/5 stars. Just can’t wait to read another installment of Professor Black series.
I had to read and review it and as it happens most of the time that you don't expect much from a review copy. But this was a very pleasant surprise.
It's an unputdownable, gripping book. After a brief Introduction about the main characters the plot is introduced, and what a ride this book is, nothing is forced about this book, it is an easy read.
Maher is the first woman to ever escape Kansa - the child killer and ACP Sargi will leave no stone unturned to catch the sick man who targets pregnant women and then kills them along with their babies, nobody knows the reason behind these killings. But in order to catch the killer Sargi needs help of the best aka Professor Black. Together they set to solve the mystery, the more they dig the sinister this becomes and before long this becomes professor's personal fight.
The things I loved about the book: - The font makes the whole experience enjoyable -The pace of the book is perfect -Story remained true to it's core and did not suddenly become a love thing.
The only thing which I didn't like was the uprubt love scene, apart from that I loved every second of it.
Review- I received this book during the lunch break at work. To pass some time, I started reading it. I couldn't put the book down. The remaining time at work didn't pass in jiffy. And I had to compulsorily keep myself away from this book. I reached home with a sole intention to finish reading it. I finished reading this book in straight two and a half hours.
This crime thriller will keep you on the edge. It will keep you hooked onto it. The story is about the case of missing pregnant women. It is the chase of the ACP and Professor Black for Kansa.
There are many characters involved in this story. Since it's a crime thriller, involvement of many characters is justified. The author has perfectly involved the characters in every part of the story. Also, his way of narration makes you paint a picture of these characters. Each character plays a significant part in the story. The ACP and Professor Black have been portrayed well. I loved their chemistry.
The story has been narrated in third person narrative. The language is simple and lucid. That is what makes reading a pleasant experience. I've had read thrillers before which were stuffed with heavy words. When reading this book, I felt that the author was himself narrating the story to me. The narration is realistic.
The author has developed this plot after a lot of thinking and brainstorming sessions. It can be inferred from the way the author has presented the incidents in the story.
I've read Prassant Kevin's King of Heart and was totally disappointed with it. With Kansa, Prassant has made a great comeback. I did not have any expectations from Kansa. But Prassant has proved me wrong. I am eagerly waiting for the second book of this triology.
Overall, Kansa is a kind of book you would love to read again and again. I wouldn't be surprised if the book is made into a short film or movie.
The first thing that struck me about the book was the size of the text;its considerably large so your eyes don't have to suffer making out small text as is the case in some other books. The title, 'Kansa' is intriguing to say the least. The mythological connection just fits right with the acts of the antagonist and gives it a good Indian touch. The starting of the book was really promising though nearing the middle, it started becoming rushed and kind of choppy, as if the author wanted to quickly take us to the 'main area of action'. The characters seemed disconnected. The main appeal for me in a book is to be able to connect with them, empathize with them, see the world they're living in from their own eyes; that seemed to be missing in this work. ACP Saargi's character was good though, I liked her no bullshit, devoted attitude towards the well being of the citizens. The comparison between Professor Black and Jack Reacher seemed a bit far-fetched. Black's characterization was ookkay but on moments it felt like the his 'suffering' was being so emphasized it almost came off as 'oh I have suffered so much, oh give me attention, pity me but don't pity me' type of vibe. The romance aspect, to be honest, seemed like it was deliberately pushed in just for the sake of it. It would've been better if it just wasn't there (between Saargi and Black I mean).
The ending though, was so so good. A totally unexpected twist and climax. It completely threw me off my tangent!
If you want a light, breezy read with ample amounts of theorising and twists, you can give it a try.
To be totally honest, I didn't expect much from Kansa.
I actually loved the cover, but I was wary about the plot. I haven't found very many good mystery thrillers by authors from India. Most of the Indian novelists focus on Romance, don't they?
Anyway, I'm glad that I did give it a shot. I know I shouldn't have judged it before reading it, and am glad that I read it despite that.
Kansa was gripping, unputdownable and everything that a good thriller needs to be.
Full of suspense, shocking plot twists and the Sherlock Holmes of today, Professor Black, Kansa was an exciting and enticing read!
So yeah, I'm glad that I read Kansa and am super excited to read the next book in the trilogy!
Kansa by Prassant Kevin is a crime thriller with Professor Black as it’s lead. The first book in a supposed trilogy, the story follows the Professor primarily and his exploits on the way to find the renowned serial killer of the country, Kansa.
Maher is found on the highway, and the doctors say she is suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. ACP Saargi is brought in to talk to the woman, but she seems nothing more than a walking dead. The details of the case seems eerily similar to the ones that shocked the nation until 3 years ago, that of the return of the Kansa, the child killer, the one who had murdered more than 40 pregnant women and their unborn babies. It is then that Saargi somehow persuades Professor Black to join hands with her to locate and destroy this inhumane killer. It is the Professor who makes Maher talk and share the details of her capture and escape from the monster, in return, giving her his word - that she will be the one to kill her tormentor. While Saargi and the Professor dig deep into the labyrinth of a tailored and shocking past, unknown to them is the fact that danger is lurking over them and their family. In the course of capturing the infamous killer, the ACP and the Professor face a lot of troubles, one of them being the murder of the Professor’s foster parents, which ultimately puts him on a “no holds barred” mode. What will happen now? With his own past as dark, will the Professor find the person responsible for the ruin of so many families? Can he dig into the long lost lives of those who were apparently connected to the killer and find a way? Above all, will he be able to keep his promise to Maher?
The story is narrated in third person and I found the language mediocre. Editing is not good, which unnecessarily hampers the novel’s credentials, where a single word could have served the purpose, a group of them is used. The plot is strong and the suspense created couldn’t have been better, but it started wavering my faith in the book once I started encountering the problems which am gonna mention next. The chapters seemed jumbled towards the end, something that had already happened, was mentioned in a later chapter that it will happen - Arjun was shown meeting Roy after his arrest and the death of Professor’s parents, but after a chapter or so, Professor was asking about letting him go? How is it possible that Arjun met Roy while he was still in jail?. Maher’s escape from the hell hole was never explained, how do I as a reader, come to terms with it? Another instance was when Professor told Saargi he’ll be back only after finding the answer, but immediately in the next chapter I found them discussing the case! It was probably a goof up, but it did nothing but confuse me. There also was this case of not following up on evidence provided earlier in the book - the necklace that lady gives to the doctor, what was it’s purpose and who was she? It seemed by her remarks that the necklace held something important, so why wasn’t it mentioned again once Professor found it? A loophole I found was when Raima’s secretary sends the Professor details of the charity done by her to Mira and Roy’s research, so why did she send a pic of the table with letterheads? What did she know and was she helping the Professor? If yes, then why? Lastly, the biggest suspense, even after the truth was revealed, for me was the parentage of Professor Black. I know he had a grandfather named Devank, who had died years ago. It was never mentioned earlier that he was adopted, and suddenly his adoptive mother, before dying hands him over to the doctor and his wife, whom he calls his step mother and father! They should be his foster parents and not step. Then there is also the matter of his age. Initially in Mussoorie, he was aged at 15 yo, but then later it was mentioned that his adoptive mother had died when he was 14 yo and from then onward he had been living with his “step parents”. How? Again, confusion. Keeping aside the flaws, I found the story interesting and hope the sequel would be better and would not leave such open points. Like I said, my faith wavered, yes, but when I look back now, I think I can ignore them all and live in peace.
“Kansa” is a novel by Prassant Kevin. It is the Book one of the Killer Trilogy. I really can’t thank enough Prassant Sir for writing this kind of awesome super thriller and for providing me a book personally signed by him in exchange of honest review. I got so much addicted into this book while reading that I literally did stay awake a whole night just to finish it. Oh.. What a book it is!!! Before proceeding further about the book, I would like to say that, the front cover of the book is one of the best and unique and appropriate I have seen so far. The cover is well enough tempting to pick this book up. I am reading for the first time any book that is published by Inked Company Publication. The title “KANSA” is exactly apt for this book as per the story and it is no doubt unique I must say. The language of this book very much lucid, simple I can say and most importantly, the narrating style of the author is so much intriguing that it made the reader glued to this book and the way of narration is one of the top most positive points of this book. Readers won’t be able to guess about the upcoming twists and turns anywhere. Especially some moments are written in literally breath taking way. The theme of the book is suspense crime thriller and it contains thrill at its peak. The characterization is very well and to the point here. Not only had the protagonist (Professor Black), the others characters (i.e. – Maher, ACP Saargi Desai) are also presented without any exaggeration and perfectly portrayed. All the characters did justify to their respective roles till the very end. The story goes like this- A serial killer named ‘Kansa’ did kidnapping of 40 pregnant women and murdered them along with removing their yet to born babies. It was not just any incident of a month or a year. It was continued to happen over a decade (10 years). After killing brutally, there came a time when he disappeared suddenly and no one was able to get even a little bit trace about him. When everyone started thinking that it was the end of ‘Kansa’ era and heaved a sigh of relief, just in that time, after 5 years, he is back in town with his dreadful deeds and this time he targeted Maher. But with her luck somehow Maher managed to escape from him and later when fate made her meet Saargi (ACP Saargi Desai), she narrated the whole incident to her and Saargi got that right exactly. Even she made up her mind and contacted the exact right person to solve this case and to unmask Kansa in front of public to put an end into his brutality. The only person who could bring Kansa into his actual place was Professor Black. Professor Black had a past, rather unfortunate past I can say, in his earlier stage of life. Destiny made him the person he is today but he had learned this by the hard way and it did cost a lot to him. After got convinced by Saargi he agreed to work on this case and after the initial investigation, he realized the ‘Kansa’ is the hardest riddle to solve, even for him. After Professor Black completely got himself into this whirl, one after another shock and unexpected twists were awaiting him and that made him faced the toughest challenge in his life so far. What happened after that? Will he be able to trace Kansa at last? What was the unfortunate past of Professor Black? What were those things that made the case upside down completely? To know all these answers, just grab your copy of the book today and start reading instantly. Author Prassant Kevin has done a marvelous job by writing this book. The way he portrayed the incidents, and connected the dots at the needed point, is something I am highly impressed with. No words would be enough to describe this book. All the thrills, twists, mystery, and everything are presented in such a way that I was visualizing them literally. I can bet that this can give the toughest competition to any kind of mystery thriller book, undoubtedly. I loved to live this book actually, and I’d like to urge every thriller lovers to please go through this book once. Eagerly waiting for the next work of Prassant Sir. All the best to him. Thank you. My Rating (overall)- 5/5.
“We are all killers, Professor. Some people kill their own dreams, their children’s future, someone’s love, parents’ expectations, their wife’s happiness, other people’s opportunities, and simple smiles. They take away everything and then say ‘Sorry’ in return.”
Blurb:
Maher was found unconscious in the middle of the highway and later, in the hospital, she revealed that she had escaped from a killer’s house. All the details and patterns matched the serial killer ‘Kansa,’ who had disappeared five years ago after murdering forty pregnant women. ACP Saargi Desai was assigned to the case. She appealed to her department to bring back Professor Black to help her catch the killer. The Professor, who had a haunting past that had kept him away from the world of crime and investigation for several years, was not willing to take on this case. But the ACP managed to convince him to get on board just for this one last time. Soon after agreeing to help, the Professor realized that for the first time in his life, he had met his match. As he dug deeper into the case, everything got dirtier, the stakes went higher, and nothing was what it seemed.
Review:
Kansa is an erotic crime thriller with fully loaded suspense. Kansa features the main character of the story ‘Professor Black.’ The story starts on a note of suspense where a couple, Neil and Radhika endure a bitter accident on their way to Corbett. The chapter that follows, describes the characteristics of Saargi Desai, who was an ACP. Since she was one of the best officers of her department she was allotted the case of a serial killer ‘Kansa’ who has killed forty pregnant women in his past life. She seeks the help of Professor Black. With the pieces of evidence given by one of the victims of Kansa, Meher, both of them initiate their search to find Kansa. In the midst of their search, they suspect a guy named Arjun, who was criticized for having illegitimate relations with his own sister Nitika. They also get a hint of Mira who was Arjun’s mother and was rumored to have an affair outside her marriage. They even get hold of a few recordings by Nitika after her death that further complicates the entire case for them. They continue their inquiry until one day they successfully reach Arjun, who was their major suspect. Is Arjun the real Kansa or is there someone else behind all these serial killings? What is the major motive of the killer behind all these murders? From the start to the end, the book was a complete page-turner. With simple language and gripping narration, the story grabs the reader attention throughout. The title was simple and apt. The cover of the book could have been better as I felt that the cover did not match the theme well. As this book is a crime thriller the cover could have been designed accordingly. There were very few grammatical errors in the book which can be ignored as the story is very interesting. The plot was very engaging and suspenseful. The major twist that takes place at the end was totally unexpected and left my mouth wide open with surprise. The book is very addictive. Once you start reading the book it’s difficult to leave it until you finish it. Even after finishing it the reader would desire more of it. The characterization was extremely perfect. Overall, it was an addictive thrilling read. I would highly recommend this book to all those who have an awe for crime thrillers.
Perhaps this is the purpose of detective investigations, real and fictional -- to transform sensation, horror and grief into a puzzle, and then to solve the puzzle, to make it go away. “Kansa” by Prassant Kevin 'is a tragedy with a happy ending. A storybook detective starts by confronting us with a murder and ends by absolving us of it. He clears us of guilt. He relieves us of uncertainty. He removes us from the presence of death. Dr. Black is not just a simple detective. If we see his background, we would notice that he is emotional person. Once I went professionally to an archaeological expedition- and I learnt something there. In the course of an excavation, when something comes up out of the ground, everything is cleared away very carefully all around it. You take away the loose earth, and you scare here and there with a knife until finally your object is there, all alone, ready to be drawn and photographed with no extraneous matter confusing it. That is what Dr.Black has been seeking TO do- clear away the extraneous matter so that we can see the truth-the naked shining truth. The summer, love, death and the memories described by the author makes Dr.Black a perfect protagonist for the plot. I really loved the narration of the story. The story which Meher narrated was at its best. I don’t want content. I want slight fear. Anxiety. I want a longing devotion for a twist of absence. The feeling of complete isn’t quite pleasing. And this plot perfectly describes all the aspects. I remember i had read somewhere that In the detective story, as in its mirror image, the Quest for the Grail, and timetables are desirable. Nature should reflect its human inhabitants, i.e., it should be the Great Good Place; for the more Eden-like it is, the greater the contradiction of murder. The country is preferable to the town, a well-to-do neighbourhood (but not too well-to-do-or there will be a suspicion of ill-gotten gains) better than a slum. The corpse must shock not only because it is a corpse but also because, even for a corpse, it is shockingly out of place, as when a dog makes a mess on a drawing room carpet. Mr. Kevin beautifully portrays the thrill and the shocks- as we call it. In attempting to reach the genuine psychological reason for the popularity of detective stories, it is necessary to rid ourselves of many mere phrases. It is not true, for example, that the populace prefer bad literature to good, and accept detective stories because they are bad literature. The mere absence of artistic subtlety does not make a book popular. Bradshaw's Railway Guide contains few gleams of psychological comedy, yet it is not read aloud uproariously on winter evenings. If detective stories are read with more exuberance than railway guides, it is certainly because they are more artistic. Many good books have fortunately been popular; many bad books, still more fortunately, have been unpopular. A good detective story would probably be even more popular than a bad one. The trouble in this matter is that many people do not realize that there is such a thing as a good detective story; it is to them like speaking of a good devil. To write a story about a burglary is, in their eyes, a sort of spiritual manner of committing it. To persons of somewhat weak sensibility this is natural enough; it must be confessed that many detective stories are as full of sensational crime as one of Shakespeare's plays.

My Review – Outstanding piece of best work. Aptly chosen title and cover exactly match with the mystery inside the book and in between the pages. Blurb made me curious which in turn lead me to read this. And it’s surely an impressive work which is worth reading. It made me engrossed from beginning to very last page. The author manages to crafted characters well enough that we can indulge in the story. The fine characterization of every protagonist and his/her role, be it is kansa-prime character played thriller, meher, ACP Saargi Desai or Dr. black- detective, each and every portrayed greatly. All characters are best in its way. Every chapter narrated brilliantly that you will curious to know what is next while reading so ultimately this story becomes page turner book. Every scene gives you varied mix of emotion hence will imbibe in the story. Some chapters will haunt you in evil circumstances, some will give you Goosebumps in twist and turns, some will give you peace while in unravel the situation, some will make you anxious in suspense part or some will frighten you in the crime factor just like every chapter will thrill you in its own unique way. Long book around 410 pages, still you will easily travel this thriller journey in one or two sitting. Pace of the story is smooth and the last unexpected ending made me wonder. I suggest every crime thriller book lover to give it a read. It won’t disappoint you. It’s worth experience this thriller journey.
Who will ever say no for a mystic crime thriller novel, which can make you feel awe with its unexpected twists and turns?? Here is ‘KANSA’ by Prassant Kevin – a novel keeps your mind awake by haunting with suspense packed plot. The book is sure to satisfy all your needs if your hunt is for a crime thriller.
Let me give you a crisp of the story:
It starts with Maher Gupta, a woman who meets with an accident and admitted in hospital, in an unconscious state. When examined by doctor, it is found that she is taken into a mental depression and looks like she has also undergone unbearable physical tortures.
Saargi Desai, ACP handling this case, gets started when she hears from doctor that Maher may have given birth to a child recently which is proved through the stitches in her abdomen. Saargi can easily guess who have done this. Its ‘KANSA’, the person who has taken the lives of forty pregnant women and of many children and men. Not a single force has spot about Kansa for this while and later they have started to believe that Kansa is either dead or has stepped out of crimes, as the crimes have stopped three years before.
But when Saargi senses that Kansa is back, she is completely taken aback and can feel the heat of the situation. Till this, it may look Saargi is the protagonist of the novel, but then we are introduced to Professor Black, who will leave an impact of real hero in the minds after the last page.
With a short flashback, we will come to know about him completely. I like to hold the suspense for you to reveal about him. But I swear, at the end, you will badly wanna read the next series of this brilliant, mad-headed and handsome man, a definite hard nut to crack.
After giving a long and deep thought to the matter, Professor agrees to help police to find Kansa. There starts the real game of the story. Who’s Kansa? What’s the purpose of killings innumerable people?? It’s left for you to discover.
The beauty of the story is that, the crime doesn’t wait for the thriller. i.e., the crime starts with the very life of Saargi and Professor Black, known with their flashbacks, and with added crime of Kansa, the thrill accompanies and rolls on. With the turn of each page, the tense and sense are held at its peak.
No wonder that the author, Prassant Kevin has penned the novel in a brilliant way. One cannot hold back yourself from falling into the trap of the plot. The way the story unfurls, the language being simple that grips your mind to the crime, the subplots building new twists, the nail-biting climax… all these have made the book’s outcome, a successful one. In the end, you’ll curse the time which is gonna make you wait for the book two, just like me.
A teenage boy in love with a girl, who he gets to meet only during summer vacations every year, loses his innocence with the murder of the girl’s uncle after the latter roughs her up. This incident along with other developments with time – like, being kept away from seeing his love for ever again – evolves him from a romantic teen into a professor of criminology, famously known as Professor Black. The character of Professor Black, who is the protagonist, and is approached by ACP Saargi for solving a rather unusual case, has been well-developed.
Bizarre incidents of abduction of pregnant women has resumed after a long time, which the people thought had stopped for good. Pregnant women are kidnapped and murdered, after their to-be-born children removed from the body. Maher, the only woman who successfully escapes from the caption of the dreaded killer, popularly named as Kansa, reveals her experiences to ACP Saargi and Professor Black. And they begin their investigation. With each progressing chapter, bizarre secrets unfold which gets the reader keep turning pages.
Let me acknowledge that it has been quite some time since I read a book so paced and engrossing. Though nearly 400-pages strong, I finished it in two sittings: just before going to sleep at night, and just after waking up the next morning. Had it not been for the language, which is average, I would not have hesitated a bit in comparing the book to Dan Brown’s books. However, in terms of keeping the reader at edge, Kansa is a winner and can very well be compared with Agatha Christie’s or Dan Brown’s works, and there is no exaggeration here.
I have not read previous works of the author, Prassant Kevin, but reading this book – seeing how well the story has been narrated in the mundane language – has convinced me to believe that Thriller writing has a future in India.
Every Thriller reader must give a try to this book Kansa by Prassant Kevin; it is totally worth its time (it won’t take much of it though) and money (I got a free review copy, *winks). And one of the most exciting things about the book is that it is a part of a trilogy. Kansa is the first book in the Killer Trilogy, and I do acknowledge that I am pretty impatient to read the upcoming books in the series.
Pregnant women are getting abducted and months later parts of their bodies are found in random spots much to the horror of the police and people. This psycho criminal is called KANSA the child killer. Professor Black has vowed to trace KANSA for he takes everything personally. Will Professor Black keep his promise?
The Book:-
Kansa is a crime thriller with a very straightforward and equally intriguing storyline. I found a lack of richness to the background of the characters. But as the story progresses the plotline makes up for the gap. The book is a really planned plot that doesn't have the obvious loopholes that we generally find in crime thrillers. The book is a beautiful execution of the plot too.
Contents:-
I believe the prologue to the making of professor Black could have been richer and had a little more description to it. But since its, the first installment of the trilogy and the second installment seems to be very much in sync with the making of professor Black I think the issues will have been resolved. Talking about the storyline it is very attractive and one of its own kind. Adding much of relief, the book does have a perfect closure to the case and has left me as a reader waiting for its second installment. Despite the perfection, I found some story gaps but then again this is the first installment of the trilogy and by the next 2 installments the gaps will have been filled. The climax does have the cliched double-cross strategy but the execution of the plot is so beautiful that the entities just fall in.
As stated earlier the plot is really unique and has given an edge to the story. And KANSA true to the name is a horrifying antagonist indeed.
Suggestion for Readers:-
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, It has one of the most intriguing plots. Even though you are a newbie reader you will thoroughly be able to enjoy the book. Despite being a crime thriller genre the author has refrained from using bombastic word thus making the book light and fit for all kind of readers.
Filled with mystery, this book is one of those goosebumps giving thrillers. When the news of evil incarnated psycho spreads around, ACP Saargi realizes the need of a helping hand. That's where Professor Black comes into the limelight. Together they both try to reach the root of the case brings out a totally unexpected result.
Writing & Narration:
Coming to the writing style and the narration of the author, it is quite interesting. The way characterization has been done is marvelous, especially Professor Black. Somewhere, he holds the essence of the book and the author has done totally justice with the narration of their sketches.
Book Cover & Title:
Both title & the cover are appropriate, beguiling, and gel well with the story.
Pros:
Intriguing story Appropriate characterization Goosebumps giving thriller Cons:
Inconsistent story at some places My Verdict:
Kansa is one of the amazing books I have read so far. The amalgamation of suspense and thriller sends chills down your spine. It's totally enchanting and you finds it difficult to keep it away. With every page turned, you are deeply engrossed and you want to find what's next? Totally recommended to all the thrill-lovers.
Kansa by Prassant Kevin is a crime thriller novel which keeps you on the edge of your seat. With its unexpected twists and turns, the book is definitely a great read. The biggest challenge of a thriller is to keep the reader intrigued by the story. Also a big task is to keep the suspense alive. And Kansa has been successful in both the departments. It is a story of serial killing and a psychopath who is evil incarnated. There are many characters in the book whose back stories have also been given. The author has done the characterisation beautifully and has used them perfectly throughout the story. Each and every character plays a significant role in the story. The story has been narrated in third person. The language is simple and lucid without the usage of any flashy words. This is very important for a crime thriller. The author has done his homework before writing the story. All the thrills, twist and mystery are presented in the perfect manner. The cover of the book is okay but the title is absolutely apt. Overall I enjoyed reading the book a lot. Recommended for readers who love reading mystery and thrillers.
Kansa book one of the killer series is written by Prassant Kevin. The title is a new one which gives the view about some mythological character but the reality is different. Then coming to the cover it gives a sense of some mysterious and lonely person. And then combining both it attracts the attention of the reader to a great extent. The page quality of the book is quite good. Then the font is of considerable size which all along makes reading easy. Coming to the story it's the story of Professor Black who is once again approached by the none other than ACP Saargi Desai because the dangerous Kansa who has killed many pregnant women is back and no one other than the Professor can solve this case. How Saargi persuades the Professor and then how the professor solves the case is beautifully described and minute details are presented with so much ease that it all together makes the story even more gripping and interesting. There are no loop holes in the story it flows smoothly even though two stories are explained separately. Loved it and is highly recommended for suspense lovers.
Cover and title: 5/5 Story: 5/5 Narration: 5/5 Overall: 5/5
As a reader, I always want to connect with the characters. Though this book was gripping in certain areas, what it lacked was connection to the main characters. The love angle between Saargi and Black.... Ummm roamnce was added at random. The love making scene??? The intensity that is required was not there. As to the fight sequence, the author must have had kill bill in their mind, but sadly it wasnt that great. The end was rushed. Nevertheless, a great attempt and maybe I will read the next book too. For me 3*. Njoy!!!

The overall plot was amazing. There were a lot of twists, turns & unexpected moments. The writer has described the crime scenes in a very satisfying & meticulous manner. Curiousity evolved while completing each chapter. The way by which protaganist solved the problems was quite unique. The only drawback which I felt was the langauge. The story was described in a very simple language. There were few gramatical mistakes & some points were not described properly in the book. The end was quite unexpected & stunning. I would rate it 4 out of 5. Readers who love crime thrillers, this Book is perfect for you❤
Story starts with a victim who survived the torture of a serial killer KANSA. ACP Saargi Desai is on the case and she wants the help of Professor Black. What actually happened in the past with Professor that totally changed him as a person is totally revealed in the first part. Will they be able to find the killer? Story is really interesting and binds the reader till the end. I really enjoyed reading it. Waiting to read the sequel soon.
