Sui Ishida (石田スイ, Ishida Sui), born December 28, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, is a Japanese manga artist
In 2010 he won the Young Jump 113th Grand Prix award with Tokyo Ghoul (東京喰種, Tōkyō Kushu). In March 2011, the same oneshot was published in the 2nd Issue of Miracle Jump. And later in September 2011, Tokyo Ghoul started as a series in Weekly Young Jump 2011-41 Issue. In December 2011, he made another oneshot about Rize that was published in December 2011 in Miracle Jump 6th Issue, which was later collected in the 6th volume of Tokyo Ghoul.
In 2013, he also started Tokyo Ghoul: Jack in the digital magazine Jump LIVE.

Sui Ishida is his penname; nobody knows his real name or what he looks like.

The plot to this one was interesting and involves a group of up-and-coming Ghoul investigators called the Quinx Squad, their leader Haise is a one eyed ghoul, who is more human than ghoul but has their ruthlessness track ghouls and deal with them.

Their first target in Vol. 1 is a serial killer with the codename Torso.....

That's all I'll say.

I'd like to point out that it's beautifully illustrated and I can't wait to see where it all leads, need to start Vol. 2 immediately.

Me ha gustado, aunque se siente extraño que haya pasado tanto tiempo.

Tokyo Ghoul: re sucede dos años después de los hechos del último tomo y la verdad es que me da nostalgia porque estoy un poco perdido con el mar de personajes nuevos y actualmente me encuentro extrañando a los viejos.

Sin embargo, hacia el final de este volumen ya han hecho aparición algunos de los antiguos y tiene un plot twist bueno con la identidad de cierto personaje que toma protagonismo, así que estoy un poco (muy) emocionado por ver qué rumbo toma todo esto.

I think I thought this was the acclaimed Tokyo Ghoul series just come to America but I realize after reading the first volume that it can't possible be anything other than a sequel. I'm actually happy that I never got to read the original series first because it allowed me to give Tokyo Ghoul:re a chance without any bias.

As with all manga I was drawn to the ART first... It is magnificent in this realistic style where the characters stand out but the backgrounds are chock full of the city in which the story is set! You can tell we are in the hands of experience as the framing is superb! Really can't say enough about the art...

BECAUSE I haven't read Tokyo Ghoul I was a little lost at moments... especially at the end in the big battle... Ultimately this had a really great balance between putting facts together in a mystery format and battles that take your breathe away!! I really enjoyed this balance and found it quite compelling... except for when I didn't quite understand what was going on.

I QUITE LOVED Sasaki the MC! He really pulled me in with his desire to teach this group to work together and his personality is composed of nice, clever, kind and hard-working elements that came together really well. I ESPECIALLY loved his alter-ego that was working to control him...

I enjoyed the twist with Toru and Mado seems like a tough boss... Urie was okay but I get tired of characters who can't see the forest for the trees... but Shirazu is a little dim (which can be funny and tiresome...) So I'm LOVING the women but the men not as much... I do anticipate where they go in the next volume! I don't HATE them... but I felt more strongly toward Sasaki...

Because I was a little befuddled at times the tension wasn't always high... you kind of have to be in the know to get that things are super serious. BUT the deadline to get a physical description on Torso... that was serious honor stuff there... I did enjoy the plot a ton... coming up against ghouls that it doesn't seem anyone can tackle...! Good stuff and I WAS NOT disappointed by the end of the volume!! I enjoy when the MC struggles, especially when it is an internal battle!

As a reader this volume was quite good... I'm totally rooting for our team and I'm excited to see where their ghoul abilities take them... I think it will only get better the more we get into it!!

How I miss him!!! *fangirling*
Okay, so we have a new series, Haise Sasaki being a protagonist ( a.k.a. Kaneki - come on! Everyone knows he is alive. ) The first 2-3 chapters were such a bore. But the story progressed and now we have really interesting new characters as well as the old ones.

Haise Sasaki is...basically Kaneki. LOL He is nice, clever, kind and hard-working guy. He has forgotten about his old life, he thinks Arima is his father ( I still hate him!!!) and Akira is his mother (she is nice ). He is ghoul investigator, half human and half ghoul.

Also some investigators are operated and transpanted kagune organs. So basically they are half ghouls as well, except not eating humans. Great idea!

I liked the characters, especially that eye -patch girl/guy. Yes, he is a girl and it was a nice little twist. Also at the end, it was nice to see Touka, Ayato, and other Anteku people.

However I have many questions about what is happening. Like why they joined Aogiri tree? Why Sasaki forgot his past? Are the other ones who didn't show up, dead? What happened after the great battle? I wish to have answers to them soon.

Reading this certainly made me relieved. I wouldn't know what to do if Kaneki had actually died. But it makes me sad that he doesn't remember anything about being "Kaneki" or anybody at Anteiku... Toukyou Kushu is definitely a heartbreaking story; a very good one too. However, one thing I am relieved about is that even though Sasaki is kind and cares for his teammates, he can also be pushy if needed; this is part of Kaneki I loved. One thing I am intrigued about, is the fact that he calls Kishou and Akira his "parents". Seeing him have no recollection about the past 20 years of his life, and going back to Anteiku, is something I need to read more about.

Placeholder for volumes 1-12

Will I ever finish this series? Who knows. I even re-read part of it (up to the island mission) and finally noticed the connections to the prequel series (about Rize, the doctor, and the Owl). I didn't like how most of the important characters from the original series were sidelined (especially Touka, who was made into a useless damsel), but I learned to like the new characters (Urie in particular started out as very unlikable and then went on to become one of my favorites). It's a very dark story that I doubt will have a good ending, so maybe that's why I'm not interested in finishing it atm.

This one was pretty cool! It starts off with the new subordinate of Haise Sasaki leading what is the new Quinx squad comprised of people who have Quinques attached into their body so they can artificially produce Kagune while fighting Ghouls and it starts off well them solving simple cases until they are investigating this cab killing ghoul named THE TORSO and also there is someone named The Orochi and its an interesting face off when two of Quinx Squad members Urie and Shirazu confront him and with later Ken..I mean Sasaki to the rescue whose a half ghoul and when he goes to attack him something in him activates..Kaneki? and his fellow officers have to supress him and we later learn who he really is and we learn of the growing threat of AOGIRI Tree and also big revelations on both sides! Great volume and a great restart! It changes the flips and makes us wonder whats really going, surprise appearances, surprise changes and Ken memory lose and now he is a CCG officer and its a great twist! The art is pretty good too!

Review till Volume 7

Ken Kaneki has been a character very close to my heart. For me he goes to the same school of epic and endearing fictitious people as, say, Harry Potter or Frodo. A lot of people find goody-two shoes characters boring and one-dimensional and I am no exception, most of the times. A lot of people will also say that Kaneki's bouts of self-pity are pathetic and that they are a sign of weakness and cowardice. Not to me, though. Kaneki has always been endearing to me. He was always such a nice kid. so what happened to him in Tokyo Ghoul really broke my heart.
The whole torture sequence with Yamori seemed very gimmicky on the author's part. Like he just wanted to shock the readers and create an opportunity to finally turn Kaneki into a badass character. His popularity has only been increasing since then among the fans. It was BAD story telling. But that's just my opinion. I wouldn't have minded a change in his personality had it happened more naturally instead of with theatrics for the sake of theatrics.
Anyhow, all of that has happened and here we are now, 2 years after the Owl battle with Haise Sasaki as our MC. After the Anteiku seige, Kaneki was defeated by Arima but not killed apparently. He has however, lost all his memories and is now known as Haise Sasaki, and is a Rank 1 Ghoul Investigator under the supervision of Investigator Akira Mado. Why Arima spared him and how he was allowed to work as a Ghoul Investigator despite it being a common knowledge that he was the SS class half-ghoul Centipede is still unclear so far in the series. Or maybe that's just me.

The story is AMAZING so far. I was actually a little disappointed with the first couple of chapters but it soon subsided as I progressed. This was not the turn of events anybody was expecting. I really like how Ishida sensei has explored the psychological side of this story. The plot setting with the Quinx (humans with Quinque inserted in their bodies; artificial Kagune) is interesting. Characters from the last series haven't had much screen time and I can't say I don't miss them. Although, almost all the new characters introduced are awesome. I especially like the Quinx. I am also slowly developing a crush on both Arima and Mado, who I didn't like much in the last series.

Sasaki is still my absolute favorite person in this manga! He is this strange mix of utterly vulnerable naivety and subtle badassery. You know, like he could totally kick your ass and everything but doesn't because he doesn't subscribe to the toxic notions of masculinity and power. A cute and savage mama bear is what he is.

ONE problem I have is with the action scenes. It really gets confusing trying to decipher who's who and who's attacking who. Maybe its just me who is stupid, but unless the hair color or clothes are completely different, I seriously don't get who got his/her ass busted by whom(?) I had to go back to Wikia and read the chapter summary for every chapter there was an action scene. Nevertheless action was never what made this series good, so not much harm done.

This is the first Tokyo Ghoul volume I didn't like all that much.

So things have changed. Out Ken is not who he once was. Now joining up with the doves he has his own team of people wiping out Ghouls. However, deep inside his brain he still has the demon we all know and love. ON top of that we're introduced to almost all new characters, a new squad sent out to take out ghouls while being part ghoul. Interesting idea but...

Good: I like the stuff with Ken actually. As weird as it is, it leads up to some interesting moments. Also, the fights are as good as ever. Clear and brutal like I like it.

Bad: The new squad is not interesting at all. Also, heavy heavy amount of unneeded and unfunny humor. I also thought the plot and pacing were pretty slow and uninteresting.

Overall this is a weak first volume to the 2nd series for Tokyo Ghoul. I'm hoping the next few volumes pick up. A 2.5 out of 5.

I liked this kinda more than Tokyo Ghoul . Probably because it had a concrete ending . The plot is a bit complex and there is gore , as always . The Tokyo Ghoul series is nice for a one time read.

Pre-review: I bought the first few volumes (secondhand) at a reasonable price!

I watched the entire 2 seasons of the anime version  of the Tokyo Ghoul series and I'm smitten so badly! One of the best things I'd watched on Netflix!

So I didn't hesitate to read the manga version, so far I am reading the beginning of Tokyo Ghoul re: (which is season 3 of the anime series).

I don't think you can understand what's going on in the story if you hadn't read the original Tokyo Ghoul manga series first or watch the first two seasons of the anime series. So be warned!

To be honest, I found many flaws in the anime version of Tokyo Ghoul re:, the characters and their relationships are barely explained in the story so I always felt like I was missing something when I watched the show, thankfully in the manga, the characters and how their relationships had came to be is explained a bit better than in the anime.

The artwork is lovely too, love the coloring!

I'm glad to be reading this series!

inizio col botto! Così a caldo dico che mi ha interessato parecchio, molto più rispetto alla prima serie. Collegata alla serie precedente più per i personaggi che per la trama e raccontata da un'altro punto di vista, se prima con Kaneki la storia vedeva i Ghoul al centro di tutto ora Sasaki ci mostra il C.C.G. e personaggi che prima erano secondari ora hanno un ruolo centrale che parlano molto di più in questo primo volume che in tutta la serie precedente. I difetti della prima serie si ripresentano: gli scontri sono un po' confusi, dialoghi non sempre chiari e un vuoto assoluto per quanto riguarda il background dei nuovi protagonisti, non si è capito dove, come e perchè sono nella squadra Quinx e quel poco che è stato detto risulta solo confusionario.
Lo consiglio a tutti quelli che hanno letto la prima serie anche a quelli che, come me, non ne erano rimasti particolarmente soddisfatti, incuriositi o attratti.

I think this series isn't for me right now. This first volume felt like a sketched out summary of a plot that assumed you know lots of details of the world already (and I was lost even despite reading the first volume of the main series this spun off of). There's also an attempt at major revelations and office politics that mostly seemed like flat bluster. The art is dark and atmospheric, but the action scenes are pretty incomprehensible. On the whole I feel a bit let down.

My skepticism was so wrongly placed….. although this started off pretty rocky with the new dove squad seeming pretty uninteresting, the second half of Tokyo Ghoul: re flipped my initial impression on it’s head. Sui Ishida’s art is as beautiful as ever, with the mix of old and new cast members offering a refreshing twist to an already amazing story. I’m so excited for more spectacular fights and plot twists… though I’m not so certain I’ll survive more death…

Also, I’m so happy Yomo is back!!! If I get to see my fave Hide again, I might just combust.

This was a pretty explosive start to what I hope is going to be a phenomenal second series.

I had quite a few questions at the end of TG and can’t wait to find out the answers to them (one of them being how Kaneki lost his memory...I really hope that wasn’t explained in vol. 14 of TG) as it has been a little while since I finished the first series.

In this opening volume, Kaneki is now known as Haise Sasaki, a Rank 1 Investigator who is currently responsible for Mado Squad (named after Akira Mado, Kureo’s daughter) known as the Quinxes (humans who have had kagunes implanted in them so they are better equipped to defeat ghouls and surpass the ability of Kisho Arima).

Their first investigation sees them trying to track down a ghoul known only as ‘the Torso’ who takes these from the scene of their crimes, leaving behind their heads and limbs...

There are quite a few new faces in this series but I have a feeling Urie could be a key player...we shall see.

As always, I love the artwork (despite how bloody and gory some scenes can be) and really like the pace in this opening volume so I have very high hopes...especially when it ends where it does - talk about reeling you in - for TG: re. I have a feeling I won’t be disappointed :)

L’inizio è come la fine di Tokyo Ghoul: non capivo niente.
Poi le cose si sono fatte chiare e hanno chiarito anche alcuni punti del finale della prima serie.
Sì, Sasaki è Kaneki! ♥
Questo cambiamento un po’ mi spiace (rivedremo ma la maschera di Bendato?), però mi fa piacere che una cosa sia rimasta uguale: anche se non ricorda niente della sua vita passata (e c’è sempre l’incognita Hide), la sua gentilezza e il suo preoccuparsi per i compagni sono invariati e, forse, proprio per questo, questa realtà gli si addice di più.
Mi piace molto anche il suo rapporto con mamma Akira e papà Arima :P
Tante le domande, su tutto: ma Hinami è con Aogiri???
E, soprattutto, Sasaki cosa mangia?

In questo volume, Sasaki, parlando del suo primo incontro con Juzo, fa riferimento al fatto che Suzuya gli ha dato dei soldi
Grazie a questa rilettura di tutta la serie, ho trovato il perchè: durante il primo incontro (meglio dire scontro) tra Kaneki e Juzo, avvenuto in Tokyo Ghoul n. 5 Juzo gli ruba il portafoglio ^^
E non mi ero resa conto che tanti dei personaggi presenti in Tokyo Ghoul: re sono già presenti qua e hanno combattuto con Kaneki
Ah, ma quanto sono belle le riletture! ^^

La parte dove Sasaki sfodera tutto il suo potere ghoul contro Nishio, dove viene svelato che è un ghoul di classe ss agli attoniti sottoposti quinx è sempre la parte che preferisco, assieme all’apparizione finale di Touka (e anche di Yomo ^^)
