I knew when I accepted the job that my life was never going to the same. I just didn’t realize how tangled up it would become with the one man I was supposed to avoid at all costs… Working for an eccentric boss in his mansion while I’m trying to finish college? It’s a piece of cake. But I never expected my new boss to be my best friend’s ex-fiancé—the one man who dumped her and left her hurt and broken. I’m prepared to hate him. I’m prepared to be cold to him. What I’m not prepared for is a man who is the complete opposite of what I’d always expected. He loves his daughter with all his heart. He’s warm. He’s caring. He’s sinfully sexy. And he’s interested. Suddenly things are not as easy as they seem—especially when a certain situation has us pretending to be a couple, and I’m no longer able to fight the temptation… Personal assistants are supposed to be bland, no-nonsense nerds. They’re not supposed to be pretty, sweet ladies that distract you beyond your wits’ end. My personal assistant is gorgeous. Efficient. Fierce. And forbidden. She’s my ex-fiance’s best friend. She’s too young for me. She’s a complication I don’t need. Except she’s the one complication I can’t seem to resist…
I was fooled into thinking this was a full length novel, when it's really a novella, which I despise. For me, they lack depth, are paced strangely, and are often written poorly. This book checks off all those issues.
Too bad, because I like Scott, who is a loving father and brilliant software writer. I like Ashley too, she seems bright and fun.
I didn't enjoy the plot, too simple, the grammar was terrible, so it was distracting, and there are several parts where the writing falls flat and the words don't paint a picture, they're hollow.
There are 2 more novellas in this collection, which I won't even read, sure to be as bad as this one.
I read this book in the Fakin It box set. After reading the first book in this box set, I thought I'd give the 2nd book a try. I don't even know why because the first one was terrible. And to be honest, this one wasn't much better. The grammar is as poor as the first book. I won't be continuing with this book set. It really needs a good overhaul.
Ashley Wilson had been jobless for two months now and she was in desperate need of money to pay her tuition. Her former boss had made a sexual pass at her. When she slapped his face, he fired her and gave bad references as she tried to find a new job. Her bank account was now drained to the last $100. As she was wondering how she could fix this, her best friend, Annie, called to tell her she had a lead on an executive assistant job for a software developer. Ashley was elated! Until she read over the papers and realized she knew Scott Everest! Back in her teens – 5 years ago? -- he had been engaged to her best friend, then broke it off. Would he remember her?
The interview went well, Scott admitting that he remembered her. He told her she would have to move into his home since late hours may be involved and he worked from home. But he would provide her a private area in the house and would pay the rent on her current room as well. He also had a driver to get her to classes. She could get used to this! As she rushed back after class, she was surprised to see his pre-teen daughter. The meeting was awkward.
A few weeks later, Scott knew he was very impressed with the quality of Ashley’s work and allowed her to look at his financial records. She streamlined everything and made it so much easier to manage. And she was making progress with his daughter as well.
After the two prepared a presentation to a potential client, it looked like Scott would get the contract. But Michael explained that he expected a man to be married in order to be considered ‘reliable’. Scott had immediately told him that he and Ashley were ‘engaged’! Michael invited them to a lavish party to make other business contacts. Ashley strolled outside for some air and, to her shock, bumped into Regina! How was this awkward situation going to play out? Regina would be livid that Ashley was ‘engaged’ to her ex!!! This could ruin Scott’s business negotiations as well if it came out that the engagement was fake!
I absolutely loved this book! The characters seemed so real and likable. The story line was clever and let things occur at a perfect pace. I so wanted everything to turn out right for these two and for Olivia! They were all so good together, bowling, watching movies, eating ice cream, beach fun – the perfect family, if they could each realize their true feelings. I totally recommend this wonderful book! You will love every minute of it!
I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book, Imposter by J. J. Bella.
Quite entertaining and very enjoyable read. I've come to really look forward to new releases by J. J. Each book of hers is better than the book before. This one kept me locked in from beginning to end. I am already anticipating her next one.
Ashley is a young college student that is, almost desperately, searching for a job after rather unjustly being fired from her last one.
Scott is a single dad, business man that is looking for a new PA.
Lucky for Ashley, her friend tells her about the PA job and Scott hires her.
It doesn't take long for an attraction to develop but both are determined to keep it strictly professional. Just how long can they hold out before their desire for one another takes over? And what happens when a past acquaintance tries to cause trouble for Scott and Ashley?
I love the book but it could have been way better I wanted to hear thoughts of what next but it kept jumping weeks and months and I wanted to hear from Scott at the end what he was thinking and wanting the sex scenes could have been more explanatory too. I wanted to hear how Scott felt. The characters the plot perfect but missed opportunity here could have brought the friend back with the old boss. I wanted to hear Scott when he caught the old guy. But beggars can't be choosers other than that it was good but just through a time machine jumping weeks and months.
Scott is a widower with a young preteen daughter, who needs a personal assistant, Ashley is running out of money after losing her position for slapping her boss. Now she cannot find another position. Her friend gets her an interview with Scott and the story begins...great characters, great plot with a couple of twists. I loved this story. Very good afternoon read. J. J. Bella is a great storyteller.
I liked this book. The storyline is good and while the characters are likable, they do need a little more depth to properly engage with them. There are some facts that need checking because they don't match, but if you skim past these little things (which are probably being cleared up with the final editing they don't detract from the overall story. I received a complimentary ebook and this is my honest review
I prefer a longer book, but as small reads go, this one was ok. Because of the length of the book, it lost some of the depth I expected, but as it was in my library, I wanted to read it. The characters were interesting, and the storyline was simple, so it was easy to read. Its one of those books I look for after a migraine as I don't have to concentrate to hard. This book also contains 2 extra small reads.
A tangled web for sure. Ashley, a young college student is delighted when she gets the job as a PA to single Dad Scott. A little extra drama when Ashley realizes that he is the ex-fiance of her good friend Regina., But their attraction surfaces and things heat up. A good read with a strong storyline and interesting characters. I received an advance copy and voluntarily chose to review.
This one was so much better than her last one. I loved the interaction between Ashley and Scott, as well as Olivia. Ashley was sweet as well as strong. She didn't put up with anything. Scott may have screwed up a few times but he always made it right. A very enjoyable book.
I enjoyed Ashley and Scott’s story a lot more than the first one in this series. I felt like you actually found a connection between the two and add in Olivia and it was a great story... needs some editing for grammar but overall good.
It was a great feel good read! However, I got frustrated editing as I went along. Seriously, do you not proof read your work. If I hadn't already began & felt invested in the characters, I wouldn't of even finished. Thanks.
I liked Ashley's strong character in this story because fought for her beliefs and didn't compromise her values. Scott's value of family and his love for his daughter. I would have given it a better rating but it had too many grammar errors.
If you can over see the huge amount of typos and errors with using the wrong names, it's not a bad story line. The characters were promising, just seemed like the draft copy 😞
