Despite a set-up that strains credulity (twins separated at birth - one raised by a cold, tycoon father the other by a heroin-addicted mother because OF COURSE!) I got sucked into this despite myself. Rich hero is addicted to pain pills and heads off to rehab, but he runs a Big Important Empire and fears a stock market collapse should word get out. So he convinces his estranged brother, the hero, a former Army vet and owner of a dilapidated bar, to impersonate him for 30 days. The heroine is Addict Brother's assistant and is in on the charade (which helps).

The problem with this novella is that it needed to be a full-length novel and not an erotic romance. I was rewriting this the entire time I was reading it. The I-Love-Yous came on way too fast given the character baggage/angst and the steamy sex is basically taking up very valuable word count that could have been used to flesh (ha!) out the romance more satisfactorily. Seriously. Make this a single title, straight-up contemporary. Heck, make it a "hot contemporary" if you must. But nothing here is really given the time and word count needed to really develop the story into a solid romance. It's like a cake you pull out of the oven too soon. It looks done around the edges, but it's essentially still batter in the center.

But now, of course, I want to read the brother's story. Because of course I do.

Like a Boss is my first book by the author, the blurb drew me in and the story didn't disappoint!
This is a quick read that brings twin brothers separated at birth into each others lives.
Dawson is a war vet, raised the complete opposite of his billionaire brother. When his brother comes to him with a proposal his initial instinct is to shut him down, until he realizes the good he can do with his payday so he jumps on a plane to save his brothers tail.
There are bits and pieces of the boys childhood that comes to light, not enough to get the entire story but this is book 1 of the duet so I'm sure we'll see more once we get book 2.
Dawson is easy to love, he's a romantic and has a good heart and head on his shoulders. He's loyal and being a vet got him bonus points with me!
Lacey is just what he never knew he needed, she's strong and loyal as well even if it is to his twin.
As I said this is a quick read so things move pretty fast, including the romance. I look forward to the second book, this one was intriguing and makes me want to hit the authors backlist and see what I've been missing.

Title: Like A Boss: Double Trouble Duet- Book 1
Author: Liz Matis
Genre: Military, Romantic Comedy
Release Date: October 17, 2017
Stars: 3.5

This was a very short story, novella style. It literally took me couple of hours to read it.

The premise of the book sounded promising and cute. We have two estranged identical twin brothers who were separated at birth. One, Dawson, stayed with the mother and is now a vet who lives in Alaska and owns a dive bar. The other one, Aaron, stayed with the father and is now a billionaire having taken over their father's corporation. Now Aaron finds himself in trouble and needs Dawson to take his place for a month while he goes into hiding to deal with his issues. And that's how Dawson meets Lacy, who is Aaron's executive assistant, and sparks fly.

While the idea of this story was good, I was a little bored while reading it. There is not much that's exciting in it, nothing that grabbed my attention and I had to know how it ended. The relationship that Dawson and Lacy started nurturing just felt so rushed and insta-love. The ending was so very blah and anti climatic, nothing to write home about, unfortunately. There is a little part about Dawson's military life and PTSD, but that honestly was so short, that I didn't have time to feel much about it, and I usually really feel for these guys when I get them in my stories. However, I am interested to read how Aaron's story will go. And that will be coming out next.

The premise of this book was promising: Estranged twin brothers, who had only met a handful of times in their entire lives, swap places because Aaron, the rich one, secretly heads to rehab. War vet Dawson does his best to take Aaron's place, and pulls it off with the help of Aaron's right-hand woman, Lacey. And along the way, Lacey and Dawson are hit with a case of instalove -- but he worries that he won't be enough for the savvy businesswoman.

While Lacey and Dawson have a HFN ending, the last two or three chapters felt rushed. And there were way too many unanswered questions about the brothers, the dark family secret that is alluded to, Aaron's relationship with their father and the family business. I hope that these will be answered when Aaron's book -- the second in this duet -- comes out.

Overall, Like A Boss was a quick read (I read it in 2 hrs or so), and I'm intrigued enough to want to check out Aaron's book. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

This is book one in a series and it was so good. I really enjoyed this book by Liz Matis. Talk about putting a twist in a story. I loved it. Dawson and Lacey will draw you into their world and lose you in their story. This was so worth reading. The characters were great, very well written, and the plot was all so good. I cannot wait to read the second book. Liz Matis has made a fan out of me. This book took me on a rollercoaster that I enjoyed up until the end. I cannot wait to see what book two has in store for my new favorite characters.

Like a Boss is a great new book if you are looking for something new to read.

Like a Boss is a quick paced, low angst read.

Dawson is asked by his identical, but estranged, twin brother to take his place. He decides to do it for the good he can make happen once it’s over.

Enter Lacey. Damien’s assistant. She’s a quick witted woman, and I really enjoyed their banter.

Like a Boss is part one of a duet, so I was left with some questions, but can’t wait to get the answers in the next part.

WOW! This book was so good! I loved the twist of the brothers.

I had just returned from my own visit to Alaska (which was one reason why I wanted to read this book), I could visualize everything the author described.

I loved the connection between Lacey and Dawson, and I can't to read Aaron's story (I hope we have more of Lacey and Dawson in it too ).

I would recommend Like a Boss, it's a quick read (I didn't want it to end), but so good.

I was asked by the author for an honest review.

I would have liked to give Like a Boss 3.5 starts. It's the first part of a two book set. While the story works as a stand alone story, I would actually have liked to see the two stories combined into one book as Like A Boss on it's own was pretty short. I read it in just over an hour. I did like the characters and I'm interested to see Aaron's side of the story.

"He lost himself within her, but at the same time, found a home he'd been yearning for."

Like a Boss by Liz Matis had a very interesting plot which got me intrigued after seeing it on Kobo.

The story goes like this: we have two identical brothers who happen to have been separated at birth. One of them (Aaron) ended up being a wealthy businessman while the other (Dawson) was left in Alaska to take care of himself. A few years later, Aaron finds himself in a tough situation and in need of his brother's help. A few negotiations later and Dawson finally agrees to take his brother's place as the CEO of King Enterprises while Aaron goes into secret rehab for thirty days. The only distraction in Dawson's path would be Lacey, his brother's sexy assistant and good friend. She is the one responsible of making sure that Dawson behaves and is able to pull off the role as CEO. But at the same time, Dawson finds it part of his mission to make sure he gets Lacey to misbehave with him. When their lust turns into love and the thirty days are over, what will they do?

"Without her, he would once again be adrift in an ocean of loneliness."

The style of writing and the characters were great and enjoyable. I loved how feisty Lacey was; confidence definitely radiated off of her. That is the type of female characters I enjoy reading about. Dawson was a very sexy broody man and nothing like his more sophisticated and formal twin, Aaron. The chemistry between them was definitely there especially with the way they teased each other. They also were sweet and caring with each other, which is something that must be found in all relationships.

To be honest, the thing I did not like was how rushed the ending was. The book was a quick read and had a really nice ending, if only it weren't written with such a hurry. I actually wished there was more. I wasn't ready for it to end so quickly.

All in all, I did enjoy the whole story and I would recommend the book if you're looking for something quick to read!

This is my first book by this author. The first book of the Double Trouble Duet is a story about Dawson and Lacey.

Written in dual points of view, this is a tale of identical twin brothers who didn’t know of each other’s existence until they were twelve years old. That was the first time they met, things didn’t go well and both harboured resentment towards each other. Dawson was raised by their drug addict mother and Aaron was raised by their rich and successful businessman father. Fast forward to present day, Dawson retired from the military and now owns a bar in Alaska living the quiet life, almost off the grid. Aaron is now the CEO of King Enterprises, successful and rich. Aaron needs Dawson’s help. He wants Dawson to pretend to be him for thirty days whilst he goes on rehab. Pretending to be Aaron will take a lot of hard work and then there’s Lacey, Aaron’s assistant/confidante/best friend. For a whopping $20 million, the price for a twisted game of Freaky Friday, it almost looked too easy but Aaron also told Dawson that Lacey is off limits. Sparks fly, egos bruised but like magnets they are drawn to each other.

This contemporary romance is light hearted and fun to read. Dawson is the hunky, broody twin whose military background makes him a man with a dark past. After all he’s been through money is not his end goal, looking for his former canine partner is, Dawson is the complete opposite of his twin. Meanwhile Lacey, a very smart, career orientated woman who only meant to help out Dawson ends up falling for him. The only problem is if she is willing to give up everything to be with him?

Since this is only the first book of a duet, we are only given half of the story. There are still a lot of unanswered questions regarding some family members of the twins and the history but I suppose we get to know more about their background when book 2 comes out and we hear Aaron’s story. This book is longer than a novella but I consider this a short read compared to most books. If you are looking for an angst-free, light romance then this might be the book for you.

Like a Boss was my first book by Liz Matis and I found myself really enjoying the story overall. It was a bit on the shorter side as far as my usual picks go, but it was well done. The two main characters, Dawson and Lacey, were given good depth and dynamic. I was able to connect with them and found myself really liking them. There were good twists and turns to keep things interesting in the story line. And of course it had a satisfying ending.

One of the reasons I wish the book had been a bit longer was so that the build-up and get to know you phase between Dawson and Lacey could have lasted a bit longer. It definitely had the insta-love feel to it, but I do at least feel like they had some heart to heart moments and there was some foundation laid by the author to base their declarations of love on.

Some of the secondary characters in the story like Dawson's twin brother Aaron and their father I have mixed feelings about. As far as Aaron, there were a very few bits and pieces to make me think he'll be redeemable. Then there was their father that left me with a sense of disliking him. I just think there could have been more to build on there.

The narrator Riley Raye did a pretty good job. I think her voice itself was pleasant to listen to and while her male voice won't be considered my favorite, I've certainly heard worse. The only thing I didn't love was that there was kind of a sound in the background during the whole story. Not quite an echo but more like maybe her surroundings weren't as soundproofed as they could be. In the end though the storytelling took over and I noticed it less and less.

All in all I would listen to this narrator again and I definitely would be interested in learning what happens in the next book.

Dawson, a war veteran, has dreams of starting a homeless shelter for his fellow war veterans, as well as locating his retired service dog from when he himself was serving. However, you need money to make these things happen, and Dawson doesn't have it. But his twin brother, Aaron, does. Though the brothers are estranged, barely seeing one another after being separated at birth, when Aaron enlists Dawson's help, be me for thirty days while I attend rehab and I'll pay you for it, Dawson's dreams are suddenly a lot closer to coming true.

Lacey, Aaron's assistant, has only ever seen him as her boss, nothing more. But, his twin, Dawson? Her reaction to him is the complete opposite. As she and Dawson work closely together, trying to ensure everyone believes he's Aaron, their instant mutual attraction begins to develop into so much more. Lacey needs this role switch to be successful for another reason to. If it does, she'll be promoted to VP.

Can Dawson and Lacey fool the family, the company, into believing he's Aaron? Why is the relationship between Dawson and Aaron the way it is? Would it have been entirely different if they'd been raised together? Or if both of them were able to live with their dad? What's the dark family secret? Will Dawson and Lacey be able to accomplish their professional dreams while enjoying the love they've found with one another? Or will happiness be sacrificed to ensure dreams come true? What will happen in the next book, Aaron's?

If you are looking for a short, entertaining listen, this one is for you. Liz Matis has written a fun and flirty story with a hint of suspense. Dawson finds out he has a twin brother at the age of 12, but quickly finds out that he is not wanted by either his father or brother. Fast forward 20 years, and now his brother is in need of his assistance. Pretending to be the CEO of a fortune 500 company is a feat in itself, but add the distraction and help of Lacey and Dawson has his work cut out for him. Lacey is always attracted to the bad boy, and in this case, Dawson is the man. Her insta-lust is turning into love. But what does this mean for her position at work? I love this story for a couple of reasons. First, it's a lot of fun to see Dawson's personality come through as he takes over his brother's position. Those unsuspecting that he is not Aaron are in for surprise with this new man at the helm. I also love Dawson's military background. His history with his dog and the mention of his PTSD gives us a small glimpse of the things of a soldier and how their lives are forever changed by their service. It's also interesting meeting the twin's father and his reaction to the boys. It will be interesting to hear Aaron's story and the further history of their relationship. While slightly rushed at the end, I found the story an enjoyable listen, and can't wait to hear Aaron's story.

Riley Raye gave a great performance for this novella. It's my first listen by her, and I found her voice pleasing. She has good transitions between characters and her pacing is good. I look forward to her next release.

This is sort of the adult spin on the movie Parent Trap...Military veteran, Dawson Trudeau, is happy running his bar in a quiet town in Alaska...when his identical twin brother, whom he first met when they were 12 yo and has not seen in 20 yrs, walks in asking a favor. In exchange for $20 million, Dawson will impersonate his twin as CEO of their father's company for 30 days while he is in rehab. Since Dawson's dream is to open a shelter for homeless vets, as well as locating his service dog in Afghanistan, he agrees to go along with the hare brained scheme. His twin, Aaron, also stipulates that Dawson must stay away from this assistant, Kacey...of course Dawson is attracted to Kacey...will he resist the pursuit? Kacey has her sights on the VP position and has no intention of letting her attraction to Dawson get in the way. But as the days turn in weeks, will the pair be able to resist each other or will they risk it all for a chance at love? This is a very short story but is well written, with likeable characters...well except for the twin. That said, during his time impersonating his brother, Dawson realizes that he was wrong assuming that his brother had a great life as opposed to his growing up with their drug addicted mother. Their father is a piece of work...and I really wanted Dawson to smack him. Anyhoo, good story, with a lovely ending, and good narration...worth the read/listen. Will be looking for Aaron's story.

30 days to impersonate your long estranged twin. 30 days of playing someone else to gain $20 million dollars. 30 days to try and not fall in love with your brother's sexy and fiesty assistant. Well, finishing 2 out of 3 isn't bad.

Dawson was enjoying life in Alaska. Then out of the blue, his estranged brother Alex appears with an outlandish offer. All Dawson needs to do is impersonate mega CEO Alex for 30 days while he beats a drug addiction and $20 million dollars is his. Dawson, though at first unsure, agrees and steps into Alex's shoes. What Dawson wasn't counting on was the tough as nails but sexy as hell Lacey Brooks, Alex's right hand woman. A woman that is completely out of his league but will not stay out of his thoughts.

Lacey has it all going for her. Right hand woman to one of the most powerful men in LA. The offer of Vice President if she can assist Dawson pull off this charade convincingly. However, as she works closer and closer with Dawson, can she hold on to heart and not fall head over heels for the sexy Alaskan bush man?

Liz Matis has delivered a romantic short novel that is sure to leave you wanting more. Her character development is phenomenal. She left me wanting more and more of Dawson and Lacey. Ms. Matis' storytelling is point on and well done. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Matis works in the future.

This is the first book by Liz I have read and I really enjoyed it. This book is about identical twins that were separated at birth. They meet once before but it wasn’t a happy meeting. Now Dawson Trudeau is approached by his estranged twin Aaron King and asked to pretend to be him while Aaron goes to rehab. It is an offer Dawson can’t turn down. It will help him find the service dog he worked with while in the military and help him start a shelter for homeless veterans. Then he meets Aaron’s assistant Lacey. One look is all it takes for Dawson. Lacey doesn’t want her boss at all but Dawson is a whole other story. While they boys are identical twins they couldn’t be more different personality wise. The next thirty days are going to be interesting for both Lacey and Dawson. Will they be able to pull it off? What will happen at the end of those thirty days? This book was a great, funny, romantic read. Lacey does her best to fight her feelings for Dawson. Dawson is torn. He wants Lacey but fears that he isn’t good enough for her and that she deserves more than what he can give her. There is definitely angst between Aaron, Dawson, and their father. I look forward to reading the second book in this duet. I would love to read more about Lacey and Dawson as well. I look forward to reading more books by Liz in the future.
I was given this book in return for an honest review.

Dawson Trudeau is an example of a set of twins who couldn’t be more opposite. Lacey Brooks is the woman behind the man. But it’s Dawson that keeps both her, and us, entertained – so be prepare to laugh. Our author was smart because she sneaks in an “aw” moment. Plus she gives us romantic moments.

Because this is such a short story it seems like the heat between these two is almost instantaneous. You don’t see too much of Dawson’s brother which is a good thing because this lets his character shine. But it also left me with questions as to his journey to Alaska and his life before meeting Lacey. And that was something in that I didn’t want to know more about Lacey’s background – felt I already had enough information to understand her character. With Dawson I just didn’t feel that.

Dawson may be ex-military but once a soldier always a soldier which if you read this book you will understand. I certainly wasn’t ready for the ending because it just came too quickly. But it left me wondering about the patriarch of the family. And since this is a duet we get a second chance at the King brothers and maybe some answers. Can’t wait to see where this author takes us.

I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Identical twins who've only met once? How did that happen? You'll need to read it to find out. You'd think it would be the one without money, a shaky business, an unknown who'd be seeking help from the billionaire. Not the case. Nope. He needs someone to be him while he goes into rehab. Announcing it could damage the company. Dawson would normally refuse. Money wasn't important to him. However, setting up a shelter for vets, getting his service dog he'd partnered with in Afganistan back to adopt was important. The money offered would do both. Not to mention thirty days side by side with the hot redhead assistant. He planned on some nights as well.
Could they pull it off with two men whose only thing in common is their looks? When the assistant becomes more, can they succeed and part without leaving their hearts behind? Is there another way?
I enjoyed the romance, the realization that things were not all Dawson thought with the brother who got it all. Just maybe all was too much.
This is Dawson story. His brother's story will follow and I'll be reading it too.

This was a surprising twist on the identical twin switch premise. I really enjoyed how Dawson took the responsibilities thrust at him and became ‘ the man’.
Dawson Trudeau has a lot of issues, not the least of which are from being abandoned as a child and losing his mom.
Now years later, he’s out of the army and running his own bar when his twin shows up asking for his help.
Unwilling at first, he changes his mind we he lays eyes on Lacey Brooks. It’s lust at first sight and he decides he’s going to have his estranged brother’s executive assistant in his bed.
Lacey thinks Dawson is a bum or a criminal, she had no idea of his existence and now she has to spend 30 days babysitting him while her boss Aaron goes into rehab. She keeps telling herself she’s not interested in Dawson but there’s just something about him. He’s not his brother even if they do look alike.
Dawson is a straight up alpha male. But he has manners too. He’s hot and sexy while Lacey seems uptight.
I loved this story, and the search for Boots was an added aww moment.
If you’re looking for a quick read with a HEA then this is one for you.

LIKE A BOSS is book one in the Double Trouble Duet series and while it's part of a duet, it does standalone and is an office romance, contemporary read. This is my first book from author Liz Matis and I enjoyed it! The blurb really piqued my interest, I mean twin brothers switching places...CLASSIC but fun! When we're first introduced to "bad boy" Dawson, I thought for sure he'd be a caveman but he was actually a big ole' teddy bear. He was so sweet (and saucy!) even though he definitely had a brutal past to deal with. Lacey seemed a little straight laced and prim, Dawson's opposite but you know what they say about opposites attracting! Their chemistry was H-O-T! I really liked both characters and the plot but I wanted MORE! More background, more meat, more of a happy ever after! Some parts felt a little rushed and some questions were glossed over. Hopefully book two will give me that little bit MORE that I'm looking for!?!? Told from dual POVs with a happy for now end. I received, read and voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

I was pulled right into this story. The story has love, secrets, and heartbreak.

This is the start of Lacey and Dawson’s story. Dawson and his identical twin were separated at birth but when his twin needs a stand in while he goes to rehab he searches out Dawson. Dawson and his brother were raised in completely different ways. Dawson is a war vet and his brother is a billionaire. When his brother offers him the money he needs to do the few things he has always wanted to do he can’t refuse. When he meets Lacey his brother’s assistant he is smitten but can he have her and still do what he needs to for his brother? Lacey wants Dawson but is she willing to have him only to lose him in the end? Can’t wait for the next book in this duet that features Aaron.

I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story from this author.

I gave this book 4 stars!

Reading the synopsis for this book I was interested to read to see what would happen between Dawson and Lacy, but it fell a little flat for me. The story was good, but I was bored with it. It didn't hold my attention like other books and I felt that their love was insta and very rushed. I felt like there needed to be more to the miltary background...yes we got a glimpse but would have like to seen more and would have like to have not a rush ending. Over all this book was ok. Would I read another book from this author? Yes, I would. I would love to see what happens to Aaron.

Dawson lives in Alaska and owner a bar. He is ex-miltary and grew up with his mom. His twin brother Aaron is a billionaire that grew up with his father and is now taking over his father's company. Well, Dawson is better person than I would have been under the circumstances!

Twin brothers brought up separately: one into wealth; the other having to fight for every penny. When Adam needs to go into rehab, he calls on his brother to pretend to be him and run his company for a hefty chunk of change.

Lacey has been keeping in Adam in check for some time and is trusted to support Dawson in his pretense. If only she didn't melt whenever Dawson is in the same room as her, she'll be fine. Dawson, surprisingly, fits well into corporate life and brings a gentler edge to 'Adam'.

I loved the dynamics in this book and for Dawson, it helps him understand his absent brother better, whilst falling for Lacey. The whole style of this improbable book drew me in and had me hooked and engaged in their journey.

I was excited to read this book, with the idea of a twin swap and I was not disappointed. This was a well written fast paced book.

I loved how the twin brothers were so different and the challenge of Mason having to fit into the lifestyle of his estranged brother Aaron. This story had just the right amount of angst, humour, love and hate. The connection between Mason and Lacey was fun and intriguing; I was thrilled to read that Lacey was a strong and independent leading lady. The side characters were so important to the lives of the main characters but were also fun to read about.

This was a short book and I felt the ending was a little rushed, with some details missing that I thought would have added to the drama; however on the whole I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading more about the other twin, Aaron, in Like A Drug.

What happens when you are a billionaire that needs to go through rehab without anyone noticing? You bribe your twin brother to take your place running your company for a million dollars.

Dawson is quite content running his bar until one day his twin brother shows up.

Lacey cannot figure out how she is going to turn Dawson into Aaron so that no one notices.

While there was conflict between Dawson and Lacey in the beginning we did get to see their relationship flourish. Aaron, Dawson, and their dad have a long way to go before being one big happy family. The main reason I am giving Like a Boss 4 stars is that it ended very abruptly. While it is a duet, it just seemed like it just ended. I am definitely looking forward to reading the second part to see how this story plays out.

4 Stars for Like a Boss!

Liz Matis has given a treat in Like A Boss: Double Trouble Duet – Book 1. A quick entertaining read with some twists that lead to thought-provoking ending.
Dawson Trudeau is one hot alpha! Whether with his laid back man bun style or the classic business suit, clean shaven look, he knows what he wants and how to get it.
Lacey Brooks is assistant to Dawson’s brother and has her own opinion of Dawson. But the more time she spends with him, the more that opinion changes.
Together they work to cover for Dawson’s twin and along the way the attraction between them is undeniable.
With a good storyline, pleasing characters and enjoyable writing this book is very pleasurable read.

I really enjoyed this book. Dawson is a genuinely good person and it makes me like reading his story. He helped his twin that he's not close with, plans on using the money from helping to rebuild a shelter and find his military dog, and helps an old lady down the stairs, that's just above and beyond awesome! Everything happens very quickly in this book which I kind of wish didn't happen just because I prefer a slow build of emotions and story-line but for what it is this book was great. Lacey had her moments where I loved her then I didn't. She's kind of fickle about what she wants when I want her to be decisive. I am ready for the next book in the series and to see what happens.
