Brenner is not a werewolf...

He is the result of a secret US Army experiment. The creation of a government controlled Super Soldier.

And no one asked if he wanted to take part.

So, he escaped. And for the last fifty years has been living in the backroads and the small unknown towns of America. Never aging. Searching for a cure. At the same time avoiding the dark ops experts who are looking for him.

But just because he can become a seven foot, four hundred pound killing machine, it doesn't mean that Brenner is bad. In fact, he sticks to a strict code.

And like the High Plains drifters of old, anyone who crosses the Wolfman's code is sure to suffer.

They took his humanity ... and now it's time for payback.

Sometimes when I read a book, all I want is action! Explosions! MAYHEM!

I got exactly that with Project Bloodborn. There's a tiny bit of set-up at the beginning, then a necessary lull in the middle to set-up the second half, but really it's a ROLLER COASTER.

So Brenner blows into an idyllic little town because he's low gas, and needs some grub. Everything is perfect. Too perfect. He finds out almost immediately that there's trouble just under the surface of this town. Sadly, the bad guys are too dumb to live. Literally. Buh BYE bad guys!

See, Brenner has a code. Don't mess with him, and he won't mess with you. When you set out to murder him, well, them's the breaks. Mostly bones. And assorted organs.

What I liked most about this book is the many creative ways Brenner found to exact justice. I mean, he definitely plows through a lot of bad guys, but some of his ideas are wild. This would make a visually intense action movie. And it wouldn't be the same old thing.

I also like a couple of the secondary characters, especially Betty and her brother Boisy. And the two old guys. I was really pleased that all the threads got tied up at the end. Very smooth writing, good editing, and no plot holes! Plus, no cliffhanger ending - only a little dollop at the end to tantalize readers into the next novel. Which I will probably pick up.

A bloody and violent book about solider during the Nam era brought into the Bloodborn Project. A project which turns ordinary men into super killing machines. It changed Brennan into a werewolf. But he has morals about what is right.

Pretty good. It's like the worlds of Jack Reacher and Odd Thomas collided.

My Thoughts:
Great start to a promising new-to-me series!

This is my first Craig Zerf read and I am fast becoming a fan. His author's voice is compelling enough to make me buy book 2, Wolf Spirit, even though it does not have synopsis. Having no synopsis is very annoying...

This is also my first Matt Waldron listen. He reads fine. I just sometimes wish he would give some characters a different voice than his usual ones that would be more befitting the character. Like deepen his voice a little perhaps when he is reading the lines of a deep-voiced character. Like that. He does sometimes does it. But not all the time.

The plot is pretty straight-forward. Hero meets bad guys. There was a fight. Boom! Boom! Blood and gore... More bad guys, more fight. The end. But hey, this is urban fantasy, not crime fiction!

This book is violent so I do not recommend it to young readers.

This is the first book in The Wolf Man Werewolves & Shifter Novel Series

This was a good start to a new Werewolf series and I like that the took this route it's somewhat different than the usual which is fine by me I like different . In still installment we get a little insight into our protagonist Brenner who he is what he became and why we also get a glimpse into the government is trying to accomplish . But there is another aspect to this story and other players other than the government who they are and what exactly is their purpose is made clear but not really . Our hero may have and very important role to play other than being a vigilante if the mysterious Watchers are to be believed just who are the Watchers . But than every hero needs a villain and of course this Author gives us one Solomon another government experiment but unlike Brenner Solomon is a Vampire . Solomon has been sent by his superiors to bring Brenner back why the government has plans for Brenner and their not taking no for and answer . I look forward to more of this story and finding out more about both of these men and the evil government conspiracy .

He fights the bad because he can.

New to this author,I am a big reader (and love supernatural and also a good love story too in a small town) I saw this was a little more believable a soldier who has been experimented on.( Not original but not common) I do like the main lead to be telling the story this book is not the case so took a while to get use to, that's why I marked it 4 stars (would of been better to be in his head taking the journey with him) I could also feel this was written by a man, sorry but the girls jumping up to kiss him on the lips (really) also if he thought he was bad and dangerous would he have gotten close to a women to have sex? He respected people would he use her like that when she had a bloke?
Ok enough of the bad comment.
The good. I enjoyed the storyline it was very gripping very James bond/wolverine lots of action and mistry, you want to hug him poor guy.would like him to have a few friends to build up a little banter with and trust? This ends on a cliff hanger but in a good way this book is complete you get to the end of the journey and right at the end it's set up for book two.so I'm off to read it now.bye

This was a quick read and a nice change from the typical werewolf/vamp read. There was lots of action. The writing and flow of the story fit well with the feel of the book. Brenner is a force to be reckoned with, but so is the agent that is hot on his trail. Brenner, the main character, was a military experiment after Vietnam. The finished product was a man would could heal quickly and transform into a huge wolf, especially when the moon was full. Brenner wasn't happy about his "new" self, and has been avoiding the powers that be since that time. He tries to leave well alone, unless people cross him. And that's exactly what happens. I liked that Brenner didn't just sit around and watch the bad, but he got involved, though sometimes, I couldn't believe the responses after he'd helped. This was a cool read and I will probably follow up with the next book. It did not completely draw me in and have me on the edge of my seat, but I liked how different this book is compared to many paranormal reads being released. 3.5 stars

'Classics' montage

Kindle Unlimited - Thank you.
The author said he was going for 'High Plains Drifter'. I think he did that plus a paranormal 'Magnificent Seven' with 'Constantine' and 'Conspiracy Theory' and touches of Tarantino and Burton. There are so many of the best classic B movie genre tropes that I probably missed spotting some of them. One stop shopping. And it really works.

I was pretty sure this would be a DNF dud, but gave it a shot. Yeah, it's over the top in a Mothers of Invention "... blood and gore and guts ... veins in my teeth ..." kind of way. And that's so not my genre. But this was somehow a 'fun' read? I think it's the combination of some really great character creations. Brenner, Boisy, the watchers, Griff...

This book is phenomenally stupid, but sometimes phenomenally stupid is exactly what you need to distract yourself from reality.
The plot is primarily about a werewolf going on a killing spree. Little background information or worldbuilding is provided about him other than the fact that he was experimented on during the Vietnam War. He ploughs through every single challenge, including a pack of alligators, with little effort.
It’s also spectacularly badly written, with narration that’s somehow too descriptive and too choppy at the same time. There is an abundance of spelling and grammar mistakes, to the point where I could never see it getting picked up by a mainstream publisher without further editing.
So why did I give this three stars instead of one or two?
The answer’s pretty simple.
It was extremely fun and engaging in spite of all its flaws.
I’ll always maintain that the hallmark of a good writer is the ability to keep readers interested in a story regardless of its objective quality.
It gives you that dopamine hit, and that’s all that matters.

Great Book!

I was looking for something different to read and got it. This action is fast as Ded Brenner takes to his motorcycle in search of a cute for being a Werewolf, albeit a military experiment gone wrong. Brenner has his own code of ethics that have him intervening to stop a drug manufacturer and rescue victim, even while he is being trailed for capture. Full of fast action, and violence as the good guys win. T I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys science fiction with a hint of paranormal.

There are worse things than werewolves

A man is changed into an almost perfect killing machine by our military. Fast forward several decades and he is a traveling man trying to control his beast. This book is different than your average werewolf story. Yes, it has lots of killing and gore but I found the monster to be one of the good guys. Man can be the worst monster we ever encounter and this book shows that. I am so glad this is a series as I really like the characters and the underlying stories behind each character. Now, I am off to read the 2nd book.

Seriously good

I have to say that not only was this book good and worth reading , it was downright deliciously exhilarating and exhausting at the same time. If you look at my book reviews I hate to give away the twist and turns. I will just say that good comes in different flavors but this flavor is awesomeness. This author knows how to pull you into a book and hold you on the edge of excitement and fear at the same time. I cannot wait till the next book..take my advice read .. just read and tremble if you are not worthy of his mercy..

Wolf Man

With a little twist while in combat this soldier was caught in enemy fire. When he woke he was not the same man, he was stronger physically but at the full moon he turned into a monster killing machine, a werewolf. However he did not lose his humanity and the need to help the men, women and children he met on his journey. He eventually escaped the army research lab and has been running from them since. A face paced page turning thriller that I thoroughly enjoyed. It's a stand alone novel but I have to continue to see what trouble he gets inBook two.

Good moon rising?

Unbelievable. This series has already surpasses my expectations. The characters (protagonist and antagonist) are vivid, layered and distinct. I've read more werewolf horror than I can recall from the highmoor to the wild hunt series and project bloodborn does More than hold it's own. The series does everything that it intends to while managing to avoid losing the visceral imagery that draws us to the genre. The writing is crisp and succinct when necessary but can pour on details at will. I am all the way in on this one🐺

Ded Brennan was a Army Ranger in Vietnam when he was shot and left for dead. An obscure government group scooped him up and pumped him with some experimental formula which saved and changed his life.
For the past 50 years he's essentially been a werewolf, chaining himself up for the full moon. This book has him wandering the US on his 64 panhead when he happens upon a small town in the middle of nowhere nearly out of gas.
The local cops for some reason are not happy with him being there and it goes downhill from there (the situation, not the story)

action served at break neck speed

My love for werewolves is great. Whether they are the evil in the dark that is going to drag you to hell, or the cursed hero trying to make the world right. There’s a couple things that popped out in the book, not sure of an editor’s oversight or a deliberate misuse of a word or insult. However the story pulls you in as you hear a story of fury that leaves you with a smirk on your face giving a dirty chuckle. Looking forward to the reading the rest of the series.

Finally the type of were-fiction I have been looking for. Good pacing, simple plot, and interesting characters so far. The plot still lacks a lot of meat and I think the author himself hasn't though that deep in it yet, still he left himself a lot of room for maneuver regarding it. As with the plot there still not much character development in here, with time we can get deeper characters that will serve well with the plot device. The pacing is good, not to slow to bore, not too fast to jump over vital information. There is still more for this story to fill up, but so far it has been good.

Brenner rocks...

I liked this book very much. And I've wondered why Craig zerf has never written a vampire book? Well now I know. Don't want to spoil the book for others. I cannot wait to read the next book. I like his writing style but most of all the surprises you don't expect, at least I didn't. His books are definite page turners. Brenner is tough as nails with a soft side that works well for his character. Looking forward to finishing this series and reading more from.this author.

A new sheriff in town?

The objective of the author was to give us an old gunslinger feel with Brenner an I believe he hit that mark and then some. Provided that character you want to cheer on you want to succeed even though he’s sort of a “bad guy” himself. A perfect foil is also provided so brenner is on the move constantly. Love it can’t wait to see what happens next...definitely recommended

You definitely met your goal with Wolfman. Enjoyed every last read. No skipping around to get past the usual long endeavors of fill in story. Held my interest, kept me interested. Great book. Thank you.

Wow, what a read this was.

Plenty of action. Brenner was a soldier that was enhanced in a lab and turns into a werewolf. He thinks he's evil, a monster but others think he's good. He hands out punishment to evil people and has a code he lives by. He is the werewolf version of Jack Reacher. An absolutely fabulous books all worth five stars. I need to binge read the rest of the series now.

Best werewolf novel I have read in ages

From the very first chapters I knew that this was going to be aood read . So different from many in the genre but the classics of good and evil were set in place early . I literally could not put it down and finished it in one go . Just as I started to come down from the high and before the despair of finishing an almighty good read could kick in ,I discovered the sequal !

A rarity

This was a good read, would probably read again. Very cool premise, not sure if a prequel but would probably read.
This isn't your typical werewolf book - it's like a Rambo werewolf John wick revenge story - if that doesn't appeal then still give it a try - guaranteed you won't have read anything similar.
I think if you enjoy the Charlie Parker series you would enjoy this.

Loved this first book in this exciting, genetically enhanced super soldier series!

Loved the first book despite a few errors and one factual error. Mostly grammar or spelling specific but not enough to take my attention from the excitement going on in the story. Easily fixable. Starting the 2nd book in this series now! Hope it's as good as the 1st book. Read it and I know you won't be disappointed!

Great Novel

I’m pretty hard on books for I’m quickly bored by lame attempts at painting an accurate description regarding the world the author is trying to convey. I read this entire book in less than 6 hours so I believe that this author is good to go. As for the book itself, a great read and packed with action, mystery and even acts of kindness in a world of extreme violence. Well put together.

Great Urban Fantasy Series

Brenner is a rock solid character. Looking forward to his adventures. Finished this first book in one sitting.

My wife said, must be good, cause you're REAL quiet except for the occasional laugh after reading something. As usual...She's RIGHT!!!

Still wondering about the watchers though and what they have in store for Brenner.

Like me, I guess you'll have to enjoy all the books to find out.

Wolverine version of Werewolf

Special Forces Brennan was wounded and almost died in Vietnam. He should have but a special government program saved him, or condemned him. Brennan rides his Harley trying to stay off grid. But also to remedy wrongs, unfortunately in a amazingly violent fashion. Those who see him as his wolfman don't usually live to tell.
The story line is good and the editing is perfect. You don't double check the story, you just enjoy.

I thought it was a good read. I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy this because of werewolves, vampires, and other supernatural creatures. Let's face it, it's been everywhere. It can get a little too much, but here I was very surprised. It was not too much at all. It was him grappling the fact that he is a werewolf as a result of experiments and being chased by a few supernatural creatures. I didn't understand the women of the book, however. They didn't feel fleshed out in comparison to the men. I'm not sure if because we won't see them again in comparison to some of the men, but it felt a bit rushed. The main character, Ded, has a fine line of whether or not to kill people. It was interesting to see to still have that code after he's been through so much. The story did, of course, end in a cliffhanger. It was a good first book to a start to this series. Can't wait to read the next book!

I had been looking for a werewolf (sorry, a military experiment gone wrong) type of book, and stumbled across Mr. Zerf's series on Kindle. I purchased the paperback edition and was not disappointed. Almost exactly what I was looking for in a werewolf novel. I definitely recommend if you're looking for pulp hero werewolf. Good stuff, Maynard!

Action packed.

I have never read a werewolf book like this before. Definitely honor and duty take forefront in his life. Haven't figured out what the creep following him is yet or what the two old guys are either. Cannot wait to get the next book in the series. Great story, thank you.
