Help your child develop a strong sense of self by following these stories that can equip children with the powerful mantra: We Are Masters of Our Own Destiny.
Bedtime Inspirational Stories… celebrates the achievements of the amazing black women and men who have paved the way for future generations.

Moral Stories. Unfortunately, in today’s world, it can be a challenge to raise positive kids, as they are constantly bombarded with negative messages. More than ever, parents and teachers need to create a positive atmosphere for our children in order to help them believe in themselves.

That’s why we’ve proudly created this richly illustrated and inspiring book, Bedtime Inspirational Stories: 50 Amazing Black People Who Changed the World, which highlights the achievements and stories of fifty notable women and men from the 18th century to today. Some were born slaves, some grew up in poverty, and some had physical or emotional challenges. Some were born many years ago, and some are still with us. The stories in the book include those of political activists, scientists, artists, musicians, inventors, businesspeople, Nobel prize winners, and more.

Black Superheroes Every single one of these individuals overcame adversities and changed the world, building a way for others to live better lives. Each one worked hard and maintained self-confidence, even when others expressed doubt or said their dreams couldn’t be achieved.

Inspiring Stories Children looking for inspiration will surely find it here. This fun and inspiring collection of influential stories provides fifty illustrated examples of strong, independent role models, all of whom had a profound impact on the world. Personal aspirations from today’s youth are also interspersed throughout the book, so that each story has its own life lesson alongside a positive message. It’s never too soon to start making a difference, and these stories are exhilarating examples of power in action to make for ideal motivation.

Positive Affirmations The book also contains fifty positive affirmations, and we encourage you to say them aloud with your child every day. Why affirmations? These positive self-statements, when repeated over time, are capable of convincing a child that the statements are true. This is a powerful way to boost their self-esteem.

Why is it important for young kids to know they matter? Children can feel small and insignificant in a busy and complicated world, and begin to question their place in life. The affirmations found in this book can counteract this effect while allowing them to grow.

As parents and educators, there are three important things that we can give to our children: good memories, a good education, and a sense of self-worth.

Our team has created this book to help you to achieve these goals. There are no better memories than the times when we share books with our children. We hope that the positive messages and affirmations throughout this book will improve your child’s self-esteem. Lastly, we should here acknowledge that every story in this book would merit a book by itself; hopefully, these snippets will inspire you and your child to learn more about each person.

Short Stories for Kids With vivid, compelling art and quotes, this book shows its readers that no matter what obstacles may lie ahead, they should never give up on their dreams. Simply, this beautiful book is about the potential within each of us to pursue our dreams and shape our own paths. It is a treasure to cherish with your family forever.

Even though Bedtime Inspirational Stories is marketed for younger readers, I actually found it to be very knowledgable and there were certainly some famous people that I didn't know much about at all. Some examples include: Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Nelson Mandela and Jimi Hendrix. Lovely illustrations throughout! Available to read via KU.

This was a great idea for a book and I definitely think it would be a good read for very young children. It features a lot of facts that I think will help get kids interested in these people and also some really cool illustrations and quotes. The only reason it only gets 3 stars from me is because it is VERY simplistic, and also because I already knew about most of the people featured in it. Since I'm not necessarily the target audience for this, that is understandable and I think it will be good for younger readers.

This was an amazing book. My only comment is that if you want to share this with your child, buy the book....don’t listen! 50 people is too many without the photos to accompany it (for the kid.). I learned a lot!

In this book Bedtime Inspirational Stories it talks about 50 amazing colored people's lives as they grew up. It goes into depth about their way to fame and changing the world; their childhood, backgrounds, and experiences that got them to where they are today. With each story it illustrates the self-love and motivation every child should experience no matter the circumstance.

Not only does this book include modern colored people in today's society such as Nikki Minaj, Beyonce, and Barack Obama. But, people such as Bessie Coleman, Josephine Baker, and Ralph Bunche; all of these people had different experiences such as flying around the world or becoming a famous singer. They all came from different households were treated differently and all had different goals in life. Not only that, but they also vary in age.

This book shows that kids can accomplish their goals and dreams even if they are poor, an underdog, bullied, and so many more issues that kids and adults experience in society. This book is truly inspiring and all the stories touch your heart in a different way, I could read this book a thousand times and not get sick of it. This book is definitely 5 stars.

I enjoyed this book. It was interesting and I learned a lot. The narration was good, but I think it may have been even better to have the print version so I could see the accompanying pictures. This book would be great for kids and adults. As the book suggests, it is a good jumping off point for you to determine if there are people you want to look up even more information for. So start with these stories and then run with it. The affirmations were a nice touch too. 4.5 stars.

I think this book is perfect for smaller children, the intended target. I enjoyed the book but missed some depth in information. But for children it would be great. Each chapter is short and has a life lesson. Also a lot of people are from more recent years and are somebody they would know (unless I reckon they are five years or younger).

Fifty powerful, touching and inspiring stories of amazing black women and men who made a difference in the world. Every story show an enormous courageous person. No matter what discrimination or difficulty on their road, the book tells us the story of how they turned difficulties on their road into challenges, how they didn't give up and reached their dream. Some of the men and women are known, from many I hadn't heard before.
It is so important to have role models in life. L. A. Amber offers possible examples to fill in those role models. These 50 people showing 50 awesome examples of the power everyone has in him or herself. Beside that, the author ended every story with a personal note to the reader. "Did you know that...? Have you ever felt rejected? Keep dreaming big dreams. Are you patient with others? Do you ever feel like giving up? Do you learn from your mistakes? What do you dream of doing to change the world? Each of us has a special mission or purpose, you matter, you are important, don't ever forget that..."

The combination of the stories together with those personal questions to the readers (it is a children's book, but it speaks to adults as well) make this book extra-ordinary. It is fun to read, one can learn from it. It also is a sort of self-help book because the right questions are asked in every of the 50 stories. I am sure this is a book that will enlarge the self esteem of many children (and again, I think of BIG children as well). It is an important book for every black girl and boy, parent friend and teacher. It is important for everyone of every skin color.

This is a book that, if I could, I would give 6 stars.

Book Review: Inspirational Bedtime Stories
Disclaimer: I was provided an advanced copy of this book from the author to facilitate this review. As always, all opinions are my own.

Bedtime Inspirational Stories: 50 Amazing Black People Who Changed the World is a creative non-fiction book, bringing together the stories of 50 prominent black people with the intention of inspiring and delivering positive messages to children. This book is perfect for readers starting from the 3rd grade and up. With our children we have chosen to read this book together as part of our bedtime routine as the book title suggests. This book is truly inspirational for adults and children alike. The illustrations are beautiful and eye catching making it very easy to engage with the book. The use of personal quotes also gives voice and added context to each notable person.

I was more excited than my children to receive this book because I have been looking for a book that pulls together prominent people in the African diaspora and Bedtime Inspirational Stories delivers in spades. As an African-American studies major in college, I pride myself on knowing and staying up on influential figures from within the African diaspora community and sharing that knowledge with my children. The beauty of this book is that while many of the people featured were new to my children there were a few that were new to me as well. This book is informative, sends a positive message to children of color, and instills a sense of pride in children who even in 2018 don’t always see prominent representations of themselves.

One of the books I've read recently spoke about asking high schoolers why there aren't more Black authors, not just Black historical figures, in their education. One white teenager said, "It's not my fault that there's no Black writers."
Ignorance is not bliss. The ONLY reason I'm glad I didn't go to Yale and major in English (as was my teenage dream #nerd), is that I was not waterboarded with a bunch of white men books. Instead of going to a university which has become a huge part of the corrupt institutions which are US universities, I had the ability to work and buy books as I saw fit. And no matter how desolate things got, I NEVER sold my books for cash.
Back to the subject. This book is for children. It's written in short snippets that can be easily read at bedtime, as the title states, but it's rich in detail and history. I'm ashamed to say that I didn't know of many people in this book. And most of them those who had accomplished some MAJORLY important things!
Some people may scoff at reading a children's book, but if you do then you're a fool. Children are our base setting. Small children in particular, are canvases just starting to paint themselves. What better way to learn about a subject, than to learn how we teach and approach children with it?

Great for children of any color

Positive life affirming stories with morals that speak directly to children. Much is written in the second person like "you can be brave." This is just what it says bedtime stories to read to young people. I wish there was a school age version for my classroom.

For kids? Please. I'm 20 and I found this extremely inspirational and educational! That racist thing towards black people only happens in the US. I'm from Europe and here black people are equal. Still, great listen highly recommend.

I received this book free through my kindle subscription, but after a few pages I went back and made the purchase to keep it. I love that it was written by a young African American girl and I can give the copies to my nieces and nephews. Please read and support her!

It highlights the accomplishments of each historical figure and does not shy away from the aspects of their lives that make them relatable. With each story the child is encouraged to hope, dream, and write their own life story.

I started this with my 5th grade social studies classes as an intro/read aloud at the beginning of each class. Each page was focused on a different person so it was great for a quick read every day. This book exposed my students to a lot of people they never heard of (besides the “usual” MLK Jr or Rosa Parks) and made black history an every day occurrence not just a February one.
