Dark does not miss a beat on a storyline. The way this author moves from book to book flowing from one main story to the next....flawlessly.... is mind blowing. Three is NEVER a dull moment in this series.

I find myself wanting to delve deeper into the secondary characters. Like, Blue needs love. Gem needs to feel like a sexy goddess. Niko needs someone to except him for who he is. Wyatt needs someone to match his sass....or exceed it. Claude, well he needs me 😂

Such a fascinating series!

Happy reading,
DD 🥂

“Believe it or not, good things can come out of chaos. Life can arise from death just as death can arise from life.” - Dannika Dark

You know, there are books you just can’t get enough of, the ones that get under your skin you want to share them with the world.

This, my friends, is one of those books. This whole series has been a shocker for me. And I will tell you why. I am a romance fanatic.

This series hints at romance and relationships, and you can see things are developing. But it’s not about that, it is about these characters and their connections not only to themselves but to one another.

I can’t tell you how happy it was to listen to a book and just get it, and want more.

Of course this book continues where the last one ended and we get the whole Keystone clan. I will say Victor is growing on me. I really wasn’t sure if I was ever going to like the fellow.

So so many emotions, I went from laughing to smiling to tears, to downright anger, to heart pounding anticipation. Then back to happy and joy.

I am left smiling and with hope of what is to come in the next book. I have so many questions so many wishes and hopes.

I have to say it again Nicole Poole is fanfreakingtastic. She brings these characters off the page and breathes life into them. They feel like friends and that’s not only a testament to the narrator but to the fabulous author. Dannika’s world is unlike any I have read before and I am greedy because I want and need more.

“Tears don’t make you weak. Fear does. Weep all you want for what happened to ya, that's your right. But never give someone your fear. That’s power. That’s control.” - Dannika Dark

Little Raven

This series keeps getting better and better. Dannika Dark to me is an author unlike any other. I finished this in one go. It wasn't really a choice. It called for me to. If you like anything by Dannika you won't be disappointed. If you have never read a book by her i urge you to start with the Mageri series and save money for all the books you have to read. Lol

Now about the story. It picks up a little after the last mission and a new one falls in their laps by chance. This book is about coming to terms with the past, how the past can haunt you and how one action no matter how small can forever change the future.

So many intricacies i don't know where to start. I think that its kinda funny that Logan used to call Silver little Raven if I'm not mistaken and here Christian is taken in by a Raven's claws. We finally have a direction as to their relationship with each other and the cast fully becomes a team. You learn little bits abt everyone but the two surprise pieces at the end will have you sad because it will be months before we get more in this world.

Sheppard's story absolutely breaks my heart and i pray there is some sort of happy ending. I love this world and this series has to be my fave and that's saying a lot as I thought nothing would beat my love for Silver. You must pick this up!!

I tried, I really did. I wanted to make this book last even though I received it just a few days before this review was to post. But it came to the point that I couldn’t stop reading, even if I had tried. So I found myself at 6 am this morning finishing the book and now I can hardly wait for the next one. Why? Because this author can write like nobody’s business and tell a story guaranteed to keep you reading like I did until the wee hours of the morning.

Dark’s characters are all fully realized to the point that you feel you know them by the end of all of her series. With each book, she peels back the many layers of the characters to add more information, until each character feels like an old friend. In this third installment of the Crossbreed series, Raven has settled into her new life with the members of Keystone, the highly secret organization that takes care of Breed problems that the Breed higher ups call on them to take care of. The members live together in a castle type house on the outskirts of Cognito, otherwise known as the place to be if you are Breed. Breed members are all supernatural and humans know little to zero about them. And it’s part of Keystone’s job to keep it that way, case by case. Christian, formerly of Dark’s Mageri series, is Raven’s partner. While Raven is a crossbreed,(something very rare)and is half vampire and half mage, Christian is all vampire. While Raven hates the vampire part of herself, Christian wants her to embrace it. We learn a lot more about Raven’s life before Keystone and it was interesting, to say the least. All of the rest of the characters from Keystone are back and we do learn more about most of them. In particular, we learn Shepherd’s past and what’s still going on in his present. It’s not pretty. He’s the Sensor of the group and is scarred, both in his mind and body.

Each of the books in this series feature a paranormal mystery. This time around, someone in the Breed world is stealing breed babies and auctioning them off to the highest bidder. We are along for the ride as the members of the team start investigating after finding a young mother dead and the baby gone. The case takes them into the bowels of the Breed world, and places that Raven, even though she had been homeless up until recently, hadn’t even realized existed. Pretty fascinating stuff.

Romance? Raven is starting to admit to herself that she has feelings for Christian. And in this installment, we finally see how vulnerable Christian can actually be-something I never thought we would see. But I am all for it. However, members of Keystone are not allowed relationships with each other. I will say that if you like a really slow burn romance, this is a series for you!

Paranormal mystery, slow burn romance, wonderfully realized characters, humor, and plenty of action and violence, made for a sometimes fun, but also a dark and twisted tale. The snarky banter between Raven and Christian was close to being the best part of the book for me, second only to the romantic moments. The hunt for the kidnapper/murderer will keep you turning pages and the twist, I sure didn’t see coming.

Highly recommended to adult Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance readers. Amazing read!

Loved it! LOVED IT.

Review to come! Review below

Wished for more Christian POV!

__________

I loved this book, and while I have some issues with the plot I enjoyed the book immensely. The team has to locate a baby who was cut from his mother's womb and is being sold on the black market. Shepard is also dealing with his own issues this book. We find out how the two situations might be related. And some random dude keeps showing up where Raven is and I'm SUPER suspicious of him at the moment.

So the good stuff Christian and Raven:

Shepard's story and background are sad. I feel so bad for him. And I wish he'd open up to someone.

"Chaos" is a new character on the scene. I kept wondering why Raven never really mentioned him to the team, and it all made sense at the end.

But some of these stories are unresolved at the end of the book. The overall plot about the baby is concluded, but not the subplot stories which seem to be going into next book. I wish Ms. Dark could like write 20 books at a time (and of course quality that she writes lol) cause I'm already missing Raven and Christian. I need more.

I was a little disappointed in the amount of times we got Christians pov. Normally I'm anti-multi povs however by chapter 7 I found myself wanting Christian's reaction to things Raven said and I didn't get many. Instead I got povs from Gem, and Shepard, mostly shep. But one or two povs were only Christian's. It didn't seem to have as many as the last book which was good but I need more Christian, shit, I'll take a Christian book (with Raven too).

More please!!!

All right. I am hooked already! Took to the third book but I freakin' love this series!! I was not so sure after book 1. Liked it a bit more after 2 but holy cow! You need to read this series.

If you are a romance reader, this may be where we part ways. This reads more like a serial. The sotry continues. There are some steamy thoughts rolling through Raven's head and a heavy undercurrent of s3xual energy between her and Christian. Things are moving along between them, but the stories are not just about these two partners. We see almost everything from Raven's POV but the whole Keystone group plays important roles in this Paranormal action/suspense.

This band of misfits brought together by Viktor to try to right some wrongs outside of the law, are so interesting in themselves. Add on that the guys are hunky and the ladies are bada$$. What is not to love about this? I am so happy that we have a mix of Breeds together. It doesn't get boring in the least. I can not wait for the next one to hit my Kindle.

I have a feeling that Raven and Christian have some more secrets to discover about each other and I can't wait for a first hand seat when the fireworks start going off between these two!

Great!

It felt like I was in the middle of a film, surrounded by non-stop action, explosions, chases and hot people. There is a definite progress between Raven and Christian, and felt so good to finally hear his confession!

AudioBook Review:
Stars: Overall 5 Narration 5 Story 5

Dark has done it again! Keystone has a new case, and it promises to be one of the most twisted and strange yet, and the gang is ready to go. A child has been ripped from the womb and is for sale on the black market – and it is up to them to discover the who and what, and find the child. SO much tension here: Raven and Christian’s chemistry is sparking throughout, Shepard often seems like he’s struggling with something from his past, and there is a stranger that keeps reappearing around Raven, but she never seems to deal with questions about who he is and why he’s there. Oh the questions are endless, and the answers come in tiny reveals, as we are allowed inside the investigations, get more of Raven’s POV and far less from Christian, and hearts break for Shepard as his backstory and the case seem to intersect in so many ways.

From a slower start to the wild twists and a few moments of “oh finally” for Christian and Raven, the story is engaging and engrossing. These are character and case driven stories that work to build the romantic and friendship/teammate connections as they proceed from one case to the next. Oh there is some delicious tension between Raven and Christian – they are well-suited but neither (to their credit) is willing to put themselves or their relationship before the case, and the trust in teammates and the support that is shown allows readers and listeners to see this group in action, and want to be a part of it. With a character that is removing his presence from memories, a chance for Shepard to ‘make things right’ (read avenge) his losses of the past, and some questionable reveals that seemingly only lead to more questions and issues, this story puts the series firmly in my favorites, leaving me with some answers, more questions and desperate to get more. More stories, cases, reveals and answers.

Nicole Poole has narrated this series from the start, and she presents the characters with flair: giving everyone their own voice, speech patterns, emotions (or lack of) and personalities. Each moment arrives with the sense that she, as the presenter, is as excited for the story and reveals as the listener should be – and that nuance that is indefinable but very present keeps you in the story and ready for the next. A series that you’ll want to start from the beginning, grab it and give it a listen. You’ve got time before Gaslight (book 4) comes out!

I received an AudioBook copy of the title from Tantor Audio for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

4 It’s getting better stars

The Crossbreed series is seriously a slow burn series, but if you are in that mood it hits the spot. I’m not sure why I continued this series since I gave the first two books 3 stars. It’s really really really slow, and even this one is slow, but it’s getting better and maybe I like the slow torture.

I’m sticking to the series because I have to read how Raven and Christian will unfold, even though almost nothing has happened, but I just got to know!

The first 30% of the book was a struggle to get through. I started and stopped this book a lot because it was slow and boring. I will say this, the book isn’t romantic and it’s not all about the love interests. The love interest is the back-burner of the book and main story is the main plot of each book.

In this book there’s a baby stealer and the gang is on the case. I really liked the plot of this book and I’m trying to get to know the group better. I really do hope some of the people in the group will hook up just to add a little something to story. I’m curious to Victor and I hope he gets his book.

Raven and Christian have that on and off again, hot and cold romance that is just too addictive to read! I will say this, there is more Raven and Christian interaction in this book then in the other two books and about time! I get it, I don’t want them to bang it out like now, but I want some slow touches and him saving her. I like it when Christian gets jealous and protective. I like to read that stuff.

I think this series might be better in audio since I don’t really like steamy books via audio and I always pick slow burn books so for now, I’m going to switch to audio and see where the story will unfold.

TITLE: Deathtrap
AUTHOR: Dannika Dark
SERIES: Crossbreed, book #3
PUBLISHED: September 3, 2017
READ: March 23-April 12, 2018 (only part time)
FORMAT: Audiobook via www.Audible.com - by Tantor Audio
NARRATOR: the absolutely smashing, Nicole Poole
KEYWORDS/GENRE: mystery, paranormal, paranormal mystery, thriller, suspense, crime, shifter, vampire, breed, crossbreed, crime fighting, fiction, paranormal fiction.

MY RATING (0-5 Star/GoodReads scale): 5 “vending machine” stars. (You’ll get it, I promise 😁).

DESCRIPTION (borrowed & condensed from the publisher’s excerpt/overview):
“For Raven Black, hunting criminals is second nature. So is denial. It’s not easy moving forward with one foot stuck in the past, but a new case offers a much needed distraction when Keystone accepts their toughest assignment yet - to track down an elusive criminal who’s selling children on the black market....
....”the stakes are high and a shocking twist turns everything on its head....”

My brief remarks:

Yaaaaaaaaassssssss!!!!

It just does NOT get better than listening to Nicole Poole read a Dannika Dark story via audiobook! I seriously LOST SLEEP because I would pop in my earbuds to listen...then I’d still be awake when my “sleep timer” turned it off...sooo, I would restart and keep going... lol.

Seriously? I am REALLY enjoying the “Crossbreed” series and I was not certain I would/could after I met and loved that crazy family of shifters in the “Seven” Series (One Second”, Two Minutes”, etc.), which was just so AWESOME! The “Seven” audiobooks were actually how I was initially introduced to, and quickly became smitten with, the Dark-Poole audible team.

Back to this story though...
Raven, Christian (“the Vamp”) and the whole Keystone crew have stolen my heart. I have already started Book 4 (“Gaslight”) in this series and I constantly stalk Audible.com, DannikaDark.net, and the “Dannika Dark” newsletters for MOOOORE.....I am highly impatient with this series. Well, I should be clear: I am highly impatient with Dannika Dark! Keep ‘em comin’, please! ☺️

Bottom line: I HIGHLY recommend ANYTHING by Dannika Dark, including this series, - ESPECIALLY via audiobook. Nicole Poole is so dynamic and mesmerizing and talented; she just does a damn fine job. Guys? I can hear her voice right now just from typing this! She is *THAT* good.

If y’all follow/read my reviews (which I have TOTALLY slacked on lately 😬), ya know I’m STINGY with that last 1/2 to 1 star. Not with this one. No way. I also AVOID SPOILERS, but will gladly answer any questions! ☺️

Thank you for reading/skimming! 😉

Psst....
If you are still here and interested, I am working on putting together (I know, I’m so late to the game), a VLOG channel via YouTube - I am also hoping to build my other social media platforms and websites! In addition to book reviews, I am a beauty product reviewer. While reading is my primary passion for sure, I love learning about my caring for and accenting my “mature” skin and sharing/helping others.

We shall see. Hopefully, stretching my comfort zone will help me build my review hobby into something much more fun and fulfilling...after all, I AM NOW A GRANDMA (Oma‼️) and hope to work outside our home MUCH less soon as I have proudly dedicated 25 years to my incredible nursing career. I want to play “Oma” (and have the energy to do so, lol) now, as much as possible. 😉❤️ If you are interested, please stay tuned!

Caffeinated reasons to your earbuds and listen to Deathtrap

I swear Dannika Dark is like crack and Nicole Poole is her dealer. Dark writes fantastic characters and engaging worlds and storylines. Poole magically brings them all to life creating the perfect pairing. I love when each character has a distinct voice and personality. Our heroine Raven Black and her partner Christian Poe along with the rest of the members of Keystone handle unsolved murders, kidnappings and breed crimes others can't or won't.

Raven is such a cool protagonist. From her backstory to the growth we witness in each installment.  You cannot help but love her, laugh with her, and become caught up in her emotions. She is bright, tenacious, and a total kickass. Better yet, she does not whine. Hallelujah!

The cases the Keystone group tackle delivered action-packed scenes, near death moments and all kinds of supernatural creatures. The stories have a realistic feel woven into the paranormal aspects, and I like that they are fully developed. In Deathtrap, we tackle children being sold on the black-market. Dark sheds light on this series crisis while entertaining the reader.

What makes Dark such a phenomenal author and this series a standout are the characters. I've become a member of Keystone and become wholly caught up in the back and forth banter, support and inner workings of this dynamic group. I laughed aloud, screamed at my audio player, and giggle-snorted as I listened. I subjected my hubby to verbal diarrhea as I quoted and shared. If I am going to sacrifice sleep, it will be to hear just one more chapter.

There is a slow-building, deliciously sweet, banter-filled, witty and OMG so freakin' hot romance developing between Raven and Christian. For fans of Dark, we met Poe in the Mageri series, and I for one just adore this smexy vampire. These two are walking a thin, dangerous line, and I loved every tidbit, thread and moment.

The overall series ARCs and developments add to the cases keeping readers fully engaged and eager for more.

I freaking love the Crossbreed series from Dannika Dark. Then again, I pretty much love everything Dannika Dark writes so perhaps I’m a bit biased. I mean… what else is there to say about Deathtrap that I haven’t already said in my previous reviews for the other books in the series? As always, this series remains action packed, funny, exciting, and filled with great distinct characters. It’s pretty much made out of everything I like about books.

Deathtrap comes across as a sort of crossroads for the series. It sows the seed of future plotlines by adding in new characters and developing some of our old characters. After Deathtrap everything is about to change for our plucky group of detectives from Keystone. I don’t want to give away any spoilers because there are some bombshells to be had in Deathtrap! What I will say is that we get to know a lot more about Shepard, there’s a mysterious new person introduced referred to as “Chaos,” and there’s finally some progress on the Christian/Raven front.

Speaking of the Christian/Raven situation…

/

If Raven and Christian don’t bang each other soon I’m going to lock them in a closet and yell “start mating” until they do! We’ve been dancing around the “will they / won’t they” dance for three books! The struggle is real with this sexual tension. I still want to get into Christian’s vampire brain so bad! He’s just magic to me. I’m low key obsessed with him. Maybe someday we will get a novella just about a Christian solo adventure and it would be EVERYTHING!

But I digress… Basically,Deathtrap was pretty much amazing and I loved it. There’s a big emphasis on fate in the story and how it keeps bringing people together for particular reasons. I can’t wait to continue on with this series and see what fate has in store for all these amazing characters.

There were some great moment of hilarity in this one and one moment that brought me to tears.

The only reason I'm not giving each book in this series more than three stars is because they do a lot of stupid things that could be alleviated with a simple conversation. And most of what they are holding back isn't big. Bugs me that simple things are held back in order to push the storyline forward.

I absolutely love this series. Even though there's no cliffhanger, the anticipation for Book 4 is even more pronounced than after reading the first two books. Just keeps getting better. With that said, patiently waiting for Book 4.......Hopefully I don't have to wait long...

RAVENHEART didn't leave me yearning for book three, but I really enjoyed DEATHTRAP and was happy with the character developments that took place.

I'm glad I gave DEATHTRAP a shot. It started off a little slow for me, but thankfully didn't take obnoxiously long to pick up and get me interested in the story. I enjoyed the story of the case that Keystone was working, but the side stories actually interested me a bit more.

Raven and Christian make some interesting progress on a few different aspects in DEATHTRAP. I won't say more, but I was very happy with how things played out and look forward to more in book four. Raven has a bit of personal stuff to work through in book three and I really enjoyed how the author took her down that path. I was surprised at how things turned out with that path and I am hoping that it—and the person that is connected to it—comes into play again in a future book. I think there is a larger story there and I think Raven deserves to have this specific person in her life. I was completely shocked with the developments that involve Shepard. I hope he is able to open up to his teammates and something is able to be done quickly.

RAVENHEART might have not left me wanting to read more, but DEATHTRAP sure did. There are so many things on the burner and I can't wait to see which will boil over first.

Another great book from Dannika Dark! Book 3 in the Crossbreed Series takes the group back out on another criminal investigation involving the black market and child kidnapping.
I loved seeing the friendship bonds grow between the Keystone members. Answers to past lives are revealed and Raven gets to revisit her past. Just the right amount of humor, romance, and unexpected reveals.

So many secrets revealed

Loved this story. We are given so many glimpses into the characters pasts. Wouldn't it be great for another crossover to occur, maybe involving Kane and Caroline. hint, hint, Dannika. This story was gripping and heart wrenching. I feel so bad for Shepherd. Will he tell Keystone or will he do something desperate. Only Dannika truly knows this answer and I hope the next book is forthcoming in the answers that we need answered, NOW. Another great read by Dannika Dark

I absolutely loved this book! I was holding my breath through many moments. It brought a lot of things out in the open. Those that I hope go in the direction I want, and those that I can't wait to read the answer for. Dannika did it once again, she has never let my hopes down. I look forward to reading the next book in the series!!

This third installment of the Crossbreed series was fast paced and full of adventure. Raven continues to struggle with her attraction to her work partner and to learn more about teamwork. She is used to being on her own and is reluctant to seek and/or accept assistance from others. Readers discover additional details about the lives of the team prior to their joining Keystone and the demons they fight personally. Christian seems more personable and quietly giving in this book. He exceeds his physical attractiveness and gives us a look at his guarded heart. I love the relationships within the team and am joyful with hope at the growing partnership between Raven and Christian.

Slow burn

I like when author's takes the time to develop the characters and give you a chance to feel the characters. I get instant attraction but have a hard time with the instant love. The excitement is in the journey and I am definitely enjoying the journey of our Keystones characters. Shepard wasn't really on my radar because I've never thought much about the sensor breed. He has a piece of my heart now and I can't wait to see what happens. With Dannika's style of writing and her ability to bring characters to life, I can't imagine her not writing series. I need more, more, more!!!!

Dannika Dark has a way of drawing you into her world's and not letting you go. At the end of the Seven series I thought there was no topping it but she proved me wrong. I love Raven Black and the depth of character she has given her. I didn't care for Christian Poe as part of Mageri but he has evolved and we have gotten to know and understand him. I love that we are peeling back layers to the whole Keystone team. Dannika Dark creates world's that engage you and draw you in. Another great read and as always I highly recommend anything Dannika Dark writes.
