From Hugo Award finalist David VanDyke and million-selling science-fiction legend B.V. Larson comes book two in the epic military space opera adventure saga!
Commodore Straker's rebellion grows in strength--but his enemies are growing even faster. Faced with a dozen rebel planets in their territory, the Mutuality finally takes notice of the upstart known as the Liberator, and they gather a vast fleet to crush him.
Preparing for a titanic interstellar battle, it's clear Straker has no chance. His tiny enclave of free planets can't survive the weight of a thousand worlds. His own officers realize this, and some of them begin to turn against him...
In a desperate attempt to halt their inevitable destruction, Straker and his team set out to capture the largest ship ever built. The monstrous vessel is well-defended and contains secrets no one suspects. Unleashing its power might turn the tide of the war--but it may also doom humanity.

Commodore Derek Straker continues on his quest to free all of humanity starting with the liberation of those oppressed by the Mutuality. His current target is the orbital fortress above Sachen-3. This system was home to a number of his Straker Breakers so it was logical to start his liberation efforts with this system possibly gain additional support and a place to operate from.
While they liberate the Sachen system and gain a number of supporting personnel and ships, they still need more help. According to Zaxby, the Liberation is due to fail only because of the large number of systems that must be liberated. They need something to change the balance of things, something that will give an advantage to the Liberation movement.
After going through captured Mutuality documents from the orbital fortress, they discover schematics for what appears to be a huge, no humungous starship. The don’t have any information on whether the Mutuality actually built this ship or where it would be located after having been built in the Baikonur system. So, Starker’s fleet proceeds to Baikonur to see if they can find any more information on this incredible ship. If it had been operational and up to it’s full potential, the war between the Hundred Worlds and the Mutuality would have been over. Nothing could have stood up to this ship and that’s why the Liberation need it.
In the meantime, Vuxana, the young Premier of the Ruxins is giving Derek support only as long as it benefits her and she plans to stay close to Strakers action in order to make sure he fulfills his promise to liberate the Ruxin home system. Straker doens’t know if she’s a help or a hindrance. He’s also not sure he trust her unlike the previous older premier, this one is ambitions yet very unexperienced.
So, if they can find the “Indomitable” and if it’s in any kind of shape to fight, then they just might win this Liberation effort. that’s a lot of if’s. They do find the “Indomitable”, but the shape it’s in doesn’t hold much hope. Apparently, the Mutuality, with all of its resources, couldn’t get this huge ship to work right so they turned it into a weapons testing platform and stuck it out of the way. Starker and his followers must find a way to bring this ship back to life and get it into the fight. Good luck with that!
Book three is already available on Amazon. it’s titled "Flagship Victory”.
Book 2 ramps up the action and tension as the scale grows exponentially. Although enjoyable it can feel a little rushed and the “Black Swan” has the disadvantage of being just a bit too convenient. Notwithstanding, the pace keeps the story moving along and keeps the reader engaged. There’s a sense the series is hitting its stride, and it’s doing so at breakneck speed. Arguably Fantasy is at its best when it lets the reader fill in the vast canvas and this series does that well. It might be nice to occasionally stop and admire the view though.
This story is developing very well, the AI plot-line was one of the most interesting to me while reading. Interested in seeing how Book 3 in the series will continue it all!
Thoroughly enjoyed reading these books. Lately more and more books are forcing social science/justice themes into them. Authors have opinions and they show in all books but they do not need to blatantly shove those opinions down the readers throat. Refreshingly, these authors do not seem to feel they need to use their stories to soapbox and preach to the reader. Nothing is forced and the story is allowed to just flow and that is a good thing. In my opinion, many new books are ruined with themes that are not needed or applicable to the story itself shoved within. That does not happen in this series and that is a good thing. Opinions yes, preaching that jars the story line, no.
Pretty good book. It's a bit like the lost starship by Vaughn Heppner, so if you liked that one, you'll probably enjoy this one as well. It's always interesting when authors tackle the AI waking up topic, and while this one wasn't handled the same way as the lost starship, it does have a lot of paralels, and I like the way the AI is presented here, it's an interesting read, and certainly raises questions that I don't think we'll be answering anytime soon. And, it's a good story too, so if you like spaceships and space battles, go grab a copy, and enjoy a few hours with a new set of friends.
I enjoyed the second in the series as much as the first the writing is excellent and reflects an excellent working relationship between the two authors. It is a good long book reading at TopSpeed it took at least three or four days to finish, Which I appreciate as I love quality reading. I am highly recommend these books. I cannot wait for the next installment.!
Typical BV Larson, just not written my BV Larson, apparently. Fun at times, story rambling at others.
Straker's breakers continue to gain numbers and ships as they build their liberator reputation within the Mutuality. Soon they realize that they need a game-changing event to occur if they are going to ultimately have a successful overthrow of the Mutuality government - enter Battleship Indomitable.
Wow!! I'll say it again, Wow! This was most definitely one of the top three stories I've read it the past five or more years... It's just that good. Don't walk, just run and hit the buy button because story was so well crafted and so smooth that it was pure enjoyment reading it.
What a well-written, gripping, plausible tour-de-[military-science]-fiction! Great development of the Ruxin species, the mysterious Opters, the communist Mutualist human faction, and the increasingly evil-seeming Hundred Worlds humans. Looking forward to the next installment. Thanks!
Indomitable was fantastic read. I enjoyed it thoroughly. The strategy and mechanics of space battle are explored making this a very interesting book. The characters, both human and alien, are well developed and flesh out the story. Thoughts about sentience are added appropriately. Great read. I hope the story continues.
I enjoyed the book. Interesting character discussions and viewpoints concerning individuality, humanity, leadership, freedom, love, and general social psychology. I also enjoyed the description of the battle scenes and the characters thoughts concerning command decisions.
Liberator Straker is back in this second book in the Galactic Liberation series and he is taking back planets and building an empire or is it a republic, who can tell? I was really engrossed in the space battles and the detailed way the characters are maturing and being fleshed out in this series. There are strong morals and ideals at work here.
I did enjoy reading this book but it did not make me hurry home to finish it. It simply felt disjointed at times and not smooth in its flow. That being said, I enjoy BVs works as a whole, and will still buy and enjoy (I’m sure) the next installment in this series.
Second in a series, follows Derek Straker on his quest to liberate a portion of the galaxy. Solid action and some thought provoking dialog provides a good read for fans of military SF
Classic battles between humans, humanoid aliens, genetically modified humanoids, octopoid aliens, and hive-insectoid aliens. It's got it all, fantastic weapons, FTL travel, and a little romance mixed in.
A very good read. A good follow up to the first book in the series. The book will keeps your attention, and the story line is easy to follow. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series and hope the series continues for a longtime.
I especially appreciate the authors conversion to metric in the second book from imperial in the first. I will continue to enjoy this series and look for other works by author Larson.
Nothing sophisticated, just an interesting, imaginative space adventure with intriguing characters. Escapist Sci-fi that doesn't strain the brain but also doesn't insult your intelligence. I'm reading all of his series of books.
