Operation Manna/Chowhound

Rate this book
Operation Manna/Chowhound describes one of the most emotional moments in the war history of The Netherlands. between 29 April and 8 may 1945 Lancaster bombers and Flying Fortresses dropped almost 11,000 tons of food over ten drop zones inside Fortress Holland, at that time still occupied by the Germans.
The food drops - in Holland generally known by the British name Manna (Chowhound was the USAAF name for the operation) - saved a great part of the population in the large cities from starvation.
This book pays hommage to the thousands of Britons, Canadians, new Zealanders, Australians and Americans who helped to prevent a catastrophe.

Hard to truly imagine how things were for all parts of Operation Manna/Chowhound. But the harrowing experiences, combined with the Human ability to help each other in need serves as a much needed reminder of what we can achieve together with friendship, perserverience and determination.
Lest we forget
