Alexandria Clarke is a writer, cat lover, and all-around optimist. She loves to immerse her readers in mystery and intrigue, meaningful friendships, and the worlds of characters who learn by doing. When she's not writing, Alex enjoys playing guitar, watching Wynonna Earp, and spending time with her family. She currently lives in Orlando, Florida with her partner and their four pets.
I enjoyed the entire set, but I'm very glad I got all of the books at once. I don't like it much when a book leaves me hanging until I can find and/or afford the sequel! A light & funny story for relaxation & entertainment!
The first three books have a non-American narrator (distracting choice for books full of American characters and set entirely in the US) who is irritatingly distracting with her constant mispronunciations (for example :"runes" is not that unusual or diffcult a word to get right, yet she mispronounces it as "runs" all the way through)
The second three books at least have an American narrator - but she seems to have gone with a similar style of uncorrected mispronunciation.
And the story... Well, the basic premise of the series is OK, but the execution lacks a bit, including basic continuity - later bits conflict with details learned earlier on, characters change personality, it's disjointed with an obvious lack of flow.
I gave up around chapter nine of book four when I zoned out of listening for several minutes while distracted by something, and realized I couldn't be bothered to rewind in case I'd missed anything because I no longer cared what happened.
It may be that it's more readable than listenable but, on the whole, I wouldn't recommend this series.
I just finished this boxset and thought it was fantastic!!!! So much magic and mayhem! I highly recommend this series. Very well written with just a few grammatical errors.
This is a collection of three cozy mysteries about witches. My expectations were not that high; a cozy mystery is a cozy mystery is a cozy mystery… And the first two books were, I think, like that – they were okay but nothing special. The third book, on the other hand, I liked a lot. It kind of tied the whole thing together, and it was really good and satisfying. It ended up finishing the series in a very positive way. In the end, it was more than a standard cozy mystery…
I'd felt badly for Morgan in beginning and understood how she felt about bein different and feeling like she didn't belong. Helping a ghost ,becoming friends with the ghost and finding it was her brother and a decedent of witch Hunter killing her for power. 2nd story falling for her new partner who turned out to be a evil Warnock was a shock, send to the underworld, seeing her father and finding out he died and getting help from one of the original witches and a 16 yr old girl. Saving the town but lost her mother. 3rd story Gwen grown up and finding out she had a twin and she was dead and a ghost. Gwen was a medium like Morgan came to help her sister and get to know her. 4th and 5th about 2 sisters finding out who they are and helping the coven in Yew Hollow, evil mother with very black magic jealous of her sister cursed coven and Kennedy. Long battle but they all found a way through Nora to defeat her evil mother without killing her. List love found and memories returned to one and all
Excellent fantasy about a coven of witches and their trials and tribulations, although I'm still wondering why the author has chosen to call these cosy mysteries. The cover reinforces this idea, but don't be deceived. These are much darker, grittier and more intense than the usual vapid fluff that goes by that name, and only the first book is truly a murder mystery. Also, no beefcake in sight, and these women are definitely not needy. If you're looking for a piece of fluff that's more romance than mystery, this isn't it. If you like a rip-roaring fantasy adventure complete with lots of dark magic, revenge, and peril, you'll be in heaven.
I loved this series, and having all of the books together was wonderful. The stories are interconnected, and must be read in order, as several end in cliffhangers. Being able to immediately read the book was a joy. The Summers coven of witches were a sisterhood of funny, loving, determined witches who will do anything to save each other. When they are attacked by dark magic, they pool their knowledge, love, and resources to save each other. They embrace orphan witches and bring them into the "family", and strengthen the coven. I loved reading about these remarkable witches.
I really enjoyed this box set. For a cozy mystery, it had way more depth and character development than what I was expecting. There are actually two different series in this set. The second is kind of a "spin off" of the first and they end up overlapping and meshing. There was a lot going on in the story and it was hard to put down. Good read.
For those who want to know: This is a clean read with some violence.
After I finished the first book I was mad because there was a cliff hanger I hate that in any books. As long as you get the six together it's not a problem it allowed me to relax and enjoy the rest of the books which are great reads believable characters it gets you riled up raging at things done but persevere it's well worth it. I will be looking for any more books by this author happy reading. magdg
That’s the question you’ll be asking yourself as you wend your way through this collection of stories by Alexandria Clarke! You get so many good stories and all sharing characters but developing and bringing in new ones with every book! Nothing but total satisfaction in this read!
Loved it, great characters and mystery to be solved.
Loved the different character development and how they interacted. It was a good mystery to be solved that I did not figure way in advance. I had trouble putting it down especially the way she ended each part. Good fun read that does not require a study guide but just a willing suspension of disbelief.
I absolutely enjoyed reading this series. It was fun getting to know all the history and back stories of the sisters. I loved each characters story and how it blended in the last book. I need to read more from this author as I now feel bereft Thank you for sharing your stories Alexandra Clarke
New characters are introduced to the story. Super witches are new to me-children of a male born of a witch, who marries a witch-have stronger powers. Gwen finds out she has a twin and the coven gets gravely ill. They need a super healer to help. The hunt and trials to find a real solution will keep you trapped until the end. Great storyline as always!
Kennedy is different. An abusive childhood because of her stepmother the only love in her life is from and for her little sister Nora. When Nora is taken, Kennedy soon discovers why she is different and why her stepmother hates her so much. A very entertaining read.
This box set is brilliant. The fact that witches actually USE their magic to fight bad guys and fight hard is a novelty. Yew Hollow and the Summers coven are wonderful to hear about.
If you like paranormal family oriented stories you will love this series by Alexandria Clarke's. I like mythical violence not visceral evidence that is possible in the real world. I also like good winning over evil.
I took a chance on this set and I am so glad that I did. The characters came to life and I became a part of their world. A graet box set. I hope to read more by Ms Clarke.
Really enjoyed the drama and then fun the characters as families went through in the chapters, it brings them to live and want to help them. Enjoyed all the books, wish there were more
I cared about the characters and their struggles. Each time I had to take a break from the book I hurried back to it asap. I'm sorry it's over but do happy I've got the next boxset.
Great story with just enough twists! Loved the characters! The ending was written as well as the beginning. I know I'll be looking for more of Alexandria Clark books!
