Fame came easy for Liv by following in the footsteps of the female writers in her family. The cycle repeated for decades…until Liv changed the story. Her villain doesn’t like the revision—and he isn’t a fictional character. In his story, the bad guy always wins.
They were never supposed to find love.
Liv never questioned her demanding nocturnal muse, or the strange incidents in her old, family home until she met Gage. His job was to watch her from afar, not reveal the truth about the curse and the stories of the dead.
They’ve broken all the rules.
Together they unravel secrets as they strive to stop the cycle. Liv’s ability to find love, and protect her loved ones, hangs on the fickle whims of the dead—and they’ve got nothing to lose.
In most of my writing I like to look for the extraordinary in the ordinary, maybe even a little magic. Then I add a dash of humor, because life shouldn’t be so serious ( Although I do enjoy throwing in the horrific, or heavily sarcastic, villian now and again, because that’s just fun). I live in Pennsylvania with the love of my life, and wildly imaginative twin daughters.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! I could not put it down. A gripping story, well written! I was pulled in from the start. I highly recommend it!
All I can say about Evil Speaks Softly is wow. From the very first page I was intrigued by the unusual story line. After all, muses are what people speak of when it comes to writing but Ms. Bonatch puts an insane spin on the writer’s muse. I love the relationship between Gage and Olivia because though the connection is immediate it grows at a more natural rate. I fell in love with this book and the writing of Ms. Bonatch; she has converted me to a reader who will dabble in the scary from time to time. I highly recommend Evil Speaks Softly though if you have a muse it may make you wonder if the voice is really in your head. If you've ever wondered where authors get their story ideas, here's the answer: the voices tell me to do it. Not only do the voices, but in this instance, it's dead killers who whisper to the heroine (Liv) and tell her what to write. But...she doesn't know that until one particularly nasty spirit decides he doesn't like the way she's writing the story. Cue the scary music RIGHT NOW. Seriously. It's a good thing she has a best friend, a romance writing grandmother, and a hot boyfriend (GAGE) who are there to help her, otherwise, I'm not sure she and Mozart (the dog, not the musician) will make it out alive. NO SPOILERS. This book has a dead bad guy, spooky happenings, hot romance, funny secondary characters (OMG GAGE'S FAMILY ALONE DESERVES A BOOK!!!) and a lot of action. Five spooky stars for this fast, fun read.
Evil Speaks Softly by Maureen Bonatch is a 4 star read. This book amazed me in small parts here and there and was all together a great read. Liv is a recorder, she’s someone who hears the words of spirits and puts them into stories, but in one of those stories she changed the ending and the spirit isn’t happy with this and he’s not going to sit back and let it happen. Gage is a watcher, he sees the spirits that speak to the recorders and he is Liv watcher, he’s not supposed to get involved but he decides it’s time to meet Liv and together they try to unravel the secrets of Liv’s ancestors.
Many authors opine that they have characters in their heads who are begging the writer to tell their stories. Bonatch takes this idea a step further by suggesting if the author doesn’t get the story right, spirits of the dead will harm the writer. Yikes! Liv, the author in the story, writes crime novels. Gage is her ‘watcher’ trying to protect her from malevolent spirits. The two are thrown together (a sweet romance) to manage family curses as well as improper endings to stories. Fun, interesting concept...a cozy with Spirits!
What a fascinating and original concept! In this paranormal romance, horror writer Liv discovers her stories aren't coming solely from her own imagination, but are being whispered to her by the ghosts of the killers. Together with her handsome "Watcher," she must figure out a way to thwart the manipulative and vengeful spirits before they do her real harm. This complex, many-layered plot is perfect if you're looking for something new and different.
This book is sure to give you chills for the romance and the paranormal activity. The heroine is an author who thinks her stories are creative fictional tales. When she finds out ghosts are whispering to her, it gets a little creepy. Her hero, Gage, has his own odd place in life because he can see these villains. They have a problem when they join to figure out how to change the norm. Norm? Nothing normal about this thriller!
Wow, what a FANTASTIC book!! What if as an Author, that little voice in your head telling you what to write was really a ghost or Nightwalker wanting their story told?? That's the premise for this book and it's just awesome!! What an imaginative storyline from this author and very likeable characters!! A must read for all!!!
f any reader wants to know how the creative process happens for authors who say they have muses who speak directly to their minds, this is a fabulous learner’s manual—albeit a very creepy one
A Shivery Tale... Unusual premise and a quick-paced plot will keep you turning the pages. I enjoyed both the chills and some quirky secondary characters. If you enjoy mixed sub-genres in your romance, give this one a try!
