Scary Sweets, Donut Mystery 34 by New York Times Bestselling Author Jessica Beck
It’s Fright Week in April Springs, a time filled with special events leading up to Halloween, but the celebration is in jeopardy when a body is found in the middle of the night on the platform of the dunking booth under the town clock. Suzanne and her mother decide to investigate, and soon secrets from the past resurface and threaten the present in a very real way.
Jessica Beck is a pseudonym used by Tim Myers. Jessica Beck is the penname of an author who has been nominated for the Agatha Award and named an Independent Mystery Booksellers Association national bestseller nearly a dozen times.
Jessica Beck loves donuts, and has the figure to prove it. It's amazing what people can convince themselves is all in the name of research! For each recipe featured in the donut mysteries, a dozen more are tried and tested.
When not concocting delicious treats, Beck enjoys the rare snowfalls near her home in the foothills of North Carolina.
Reading time - 1 hr 48 minutes, your time may vary. Halloween is in the air and it has come to the streets of April Springs, along with murder. Suzanne only had to walk across the street from Donut Hearts to find the latest victim and this time is partnered with her mother while the menfolk are making buffoons out of themselves trying to do a simple repair at home.
You never know what Suzanne might get into. But one thing is for sure is that there will be a murder and donuts involved. Cannot wait to see what is in store for Suzanne and Jake.
Oh, Suzanne. The beginning of this book made me laugh - I love how someone set up a broomstick to startle Suzanne. And, of course, Suzanne then decides it prudent to go outside in the dark all alone while feeling threatened. Then she comes upon the scene of a guy in a dunking booth and she actually considers dunking him. Oh. My. Gosh. Suzannnnnnneeeee!!!!!!
Since the books are kind of cookie-cutter (doughnut-cutter?) sameness, you could read some of my other reviews of this series to see how this one went. Suzanne is mean. She puts herself in unnecessary danger. She doesn't figure out whodunit. Someone has to save her.
I did like the Halloween-themed parts of the book.
I would say this was deliciously good! Suzanne and her momma have such a good sleuthing partnership. It was entertaining having them finding out who the killer was!
The town sounds so lovely. The time of Halloween and how spooky it was described. But not too much just right! Also the people always having eachothers backs..well most of them;)
Donut Hearts would be lovely to visit. I want an eyeball donut now. Wouldn't be nice to just jump inside the books and experience the amazing things of what it has to offer?!
