Tiger wakes in the night knowing someone distant is in trouble, and he feels a terrible pull to help. His mate, Carly, is not about to let him run off alone, and so Tiger takes her on a wild adventure for what proves to be the most important rescue mission of his life.
NY Times Bestselling author Jennifer Ashley writes historical, contemporary, and paranormal romance, historical mysteries, and urban fantasy as Jennifer Ashley, Allyson James, and Ashley Gardner.
Tiger is definitely one of the most favourite characters of the “Shifters Unbound series. He is the different one, the one that cannot fit in rules and collars and he never obeys the shifter town's leader.
This is something to be expected because Tiger was not created by Fae like the other shifters to be a slave. He was created by humans to be a super strong warrior. Possible he wishes that there was somebody else like him out there.
Not that he is not happy. He has his Carly and his baby son. Especially Carly always supports him. So, when he decides in the middle of the night to steal Dylan’s truck, leave the shifter town and follow his instincts because someone maybe in danger; Carly will go will him to help.
It doesn't really matter that they don't know where they are going.
And suddenly they will even realise that Connor has also followed them. So both Dylan and Liam will probably kill them.
A great adventure and moreover a new interesting shifter is introduced!
You can find Tiger mostly in these two books, although he makes appearances in almost every book recently: 1. 2.
A Tiger and Carly story! Tiger tries to race off to answer a call from someone in distress, but Carly isn't letting him go alone. Connor Morrissey tags along for a family adventure.
I loved writing Tiger again! This is a shorter novella (was supposed to be part of a boxed set, but the set fizzled before it was published). It makes me want to write a longer story about Tiger ... stay tuned.
More Shifters coming up! Mostly full-length books. Ben needs a story, as does Connor (of course), Peigi and Reid, the bears (Shane and his brother Brody, plus Cade in NC), and many more. Plus I'd like to do a longer book about Dylan. Where to begin? I'll figure it out.
Note: ** It can be read as a stand-alone, but I’d recommend at least reading Tigers novel, Tiger Magic, so you can fully understand the background on our lead characters.
Tiger is one of my favorite characters. He is truly unique. Tiger Striped is a quick fun novella in the Shifters Unbound series. This one showcases Carly and Tiger and the adventure they go on. What they find will change their lives. We also get to see Conner shine a little.
Oh my heart! Such a sweet story about Tiger! I can't really review this without giving away a major plot point, but I will say that you won't be disappointed that you read this. <3
This is not a 5 only because of the cover. For me, this looks or feels nothing like Tiger.
FINAL DECISION: I love, love, love Tiger. I would read a story about him going to the grocery store to buy stuff for dinner, but this story resolves some things from his novel so it is a wonderful companion. So glad to get another glimpse of my favorite Shifter couple.
THE STORY: In the middle of the night, Tiger gets the feeling that someone needs him and takes off. But his mate is not allowing him to endanger himself alone again and insists on going along. Tiger knows that someone, somewhere needs him and he has to go.
OPINION: I love when novellas in a series have a purpose. This one definitely is a must read in the series as it has some big secrets that are revealed. But what I love most is the characters of Tiger and Carly who already make such a loving unit.
I love Tiger because he is so honest and centered. He doesn't have the instincts or interest in deception so we always know exactly what he thinks and feels based upon his viewpoint. This story turns that on its head for a while when we don't understand his actions, but (of course) everything is neatly explained in the year.
The story is centered around the big reveal so I won't go into that because it would be a spoiler, but I did love seeing how Tiger and Carly relate to one another as a settled couple and Conner is a cutie.
The story has some action and drama and I loved seeing all the Austen Shifters again. The nice thing about this story is that it has consequence for the series and the characters.
And what is truly to love about this story are the characters. Ashley has created a whole society filled with multi-dimensional characters so their cameos here all have consequence and a nice homecoming feel.
I recommend this novella for everyone who is a fan of the series.
WORTH MENTIONING: We get to spend some time with Conner Morrissey as well. I hope we get to see him more in the series.
CONNECTED BOOKS: TIGER STRIPED is book 11.5 in the Shifters Unbound series. This novella is an update on the characters of Tiger and Carly from TIGER MAGIC. I recommend reading that book first to get to know the characters.
STAR RATING: I give this novella 5 stars.
NOTE: I received an ARC of this novella from the author in order to prepare this review. I was not required to write a review or to write a positive review. All opinions contained herein are my own. This review was originally posted on Top10RomanceBooks.com
I have loved Tiger from his first book. Whenever he is on the scene in other books, I'm a happy camper. So, this novella starring Tiger and his mate, Carly, had me doing a happy dance. Another great Tiger story!
Tiger Striped was such an interesting read and it was such fun to return back to Tiger and Carly and this whole world of Shiftertown. Tiger Striped is a blend of a extended epilogue type of novella but also a prequel for the book "Tiger's Daughter".
This is a story that had such great blends to it and I really enjoyed seeing what life for Tiger and Carly is like for them. But we also see something more happen for them and the potential of this experience. I really enjoyed how Tiger and Carly are on this adventure together. When Tiger senses someone in danger, he is determined to rescue them. What none of them expect is that this mysterious individual would actually have very close connections to Tiger and be his long lost daughter who has been tortured and treated like an animal all of her life.
There was so much heartfelt emotion that rivals throughout this story. I absolutely enjoyed how this was portrayed and Jennifer Ashley did a great job with this novella. It was a true win of a story and kept me captivated all the way through. You can count on this author to deliver a fun ride of a journey!
This was such a sweet urban fantasy novella. Tiger, a Shifter, is awoken by the telepathic call of someone in deep distress. I love Tiger. He was born in a lab where they tinkered with his genes to give him abilities beyond those of a typical Shifter. He is ideally adapted to search and rescue (although of course the experimenters were hoping for a supersoldier). Tiger and his human wife Carly start driving, with only Tiger’s abilities pointing the way. Adventures ensue; but Tiger is determined to rescue whoever is in so much pain and fear. The sweetness comes from the unconditional love between Tiger and Carly, and from the surprising identity of the person who needs help. I really liked this.
We get to see yet again what true mates really are.... Carly seems like an amazing woman but the way she gets Tiger and is able to love him as he is, and the strength that gives her to do his thing, is beautiful and fun to watch... I just wish there had been more to this...at the end Ms.Ashley tells us this had been written to go in a short story that wasn’t meant to be,soo the length makes sense but with releasing this on it’s own I wish she lengthen it at least a little bit, with out giving away any thing ( I hope) the majority of this story 65-75% roughly is centered on Tiger,Carly and Connor off to rescue/save someone who has activated his kinda homing sense inside of him and he HAS TO go help... And when he/they finally do the reveal is pretty big and at least foe me rather unexpected ... But that’s what gets me... The big reveal and rescue happens, they get out get home and it’s all over and while I can definitely see the one rescued playing a big part in some future story lines especially quite possibly Conner’s future story line,I just wish we could have had a little bit more ... Good story but left me rather unsatisfied.... For me,it was more like just another step in “Shifters Unbound”series soo I know what’s going on more than anything else.... Thanks
Not a big fan of novella's but I enjoyed this one from the beginning and made me want more. It pulled me in with intrigue of something wrong in Tigers head. And the race is on to find out what is wrong and who is in trouble. This was well written as all Jennifer Ashley's books are. She has a marvelous way of telling her stories and filling you in that is just seamless. This world she has created just gets better and better and snippets like this one of characters we already know make this world more real to her readers and gives us insight into the characters she sees in her head. Loved it. I'm thinking I need to go back and reread these books from the beginning before her next book comes out, as this story brought back all kinds of memories of the shifters in this series.
I love coming back to this world! Tiger and Carly had their own full-length novel in Tiger Magic and this is just a snippet of what life has been like for Tiger. When Tiger receives a distress call from heaven-knows-where, he and Carly (and the always fun Connor Morrisey) rush to help. In just a few pages we get to enjoy Carly and Tiger’s strong love bond at work, a high-speed chase, human-shifter interaction, and of course the promise of more to come. And that twist at the end was just perfect! I totally recommend it whether you’re new to the series or a long-time fan.
Tiger Striped: Shifters Unbound (Kindle Edition) by Jennifer Ashley Thank you Jennifer for this Tiger story....Tiger and Carly along with Conner go on a mission that calls to Tiger.. This is a short story but a wonderful one and I am so glad I got to be part of it. Tiger has always been a favorite of mine and this only made him more so....Jennifer I can't wait for the next book!!!
Although Tiger was not as Zen as we've known him, we found there was a really good reason for that (can't say much more without spoiling the story). A short and enjoyable read.
All too often, I find novellas either too thin or too rushed and undeveloped, not allowing the characters to find their voices, or tying together loose ends a bit too sloppily. But this novella is perfect. It helps that Carly and Tiger are already established and well-known through a full-length novel of their own, and that both Tiger and Connor have made numerous appearances in almost every SU novel since they were first introduced. It also helps that the plot is a logical follow-up to something we've already been told. And of course it helps that Tiger is everybody's very favourite Shifter, and that we've all been clamouring for more Tiger-and-Carly. :-) The plot: Tiger wakes up with the strongest mental call for aid that he has ever experienced, leaving him no choice but to follow it. But his human mate Carly wakes up too, and she is not prepared to let him disappear on his own again on god-knows-what-kind of dangerous mission. She doesn't try to make him stay, though -- she just assumes the role of his driver. En route, they discover that Connor had been sleeping in the truck bed and is now also part of the mission. And Connor, in turn, discovers that they are being followed.
All of them get to play a role in what follows, and what follows is both suspenseful and touching. Tiger has no idea why he is being so strongly pulled, but as a long time reader (and re-reader) of the series, I did suspect the reason, and was not disappointed. It was a loose end that needed to be tied off, and it was, very satisfyingly so, promising more to come. As a standalone, this should *kind of* work (it was, after all, originally written for a multi-author collection of stories that never happened), but it will be so much more satisfying to a Shifters Unbound fan. (And if you like shifter romance and haven't read this series, what are you waiting for? It's arguably the best shifter romance series out there, well written and with thorough would-building and mythology, and with believable characters and great sexy romance.)
I wish I could give it more stars its that good AND I'm not a huge fan of novella's. That's usually because for me the shortness of them doesn't satisfy me BUT because we have already had Tiger's full length novel I was so, so, soooo very happy for more Tiger and Carly as they are still my favourite couple of this amazing series... This couple for me just seem to have that something extra that makes them so connected and you feel the love they have for one another, its so special! Tiger's uniqueness/special abilities really shone through in this one with Tiger needing to rescue someone only he could hear and find, what I loved was that Carly and Connor joined him on this adventure!!! Wont post any spoilers and have no doubt that you will enjoy every new snippet we get in this one, this author has created such an amazing world, with such well developed characters that keeps me waiting impatiently for the newest addition. So many more amazing characters, including the newest one from this book, that will hopefully end up with their own stories. Overall, even though its only short and only took a couple hours to finish, it has totally satisfied my need for more Tiger!!! I look forward to the next in the series!!!!
OK, I'm back to 3 stars for this series, maybe 3.5.
I do want to read about Tiger-girl and Connor tho - what a combo!
The good: * Carly wasn't at all annoying. * Tiger is...Tiger * Plot was fine, since it made me want to read more
The bad: * Don't like the guy on the cover. Not the Tiger I'm imagining * 45% of the way through it was all about driving in a car. Really not moving any plot along. Big ding for that one. * No sex really, just a little "slide in" at the end. Seriously. It was one sentence. And then suddenly Author's Note
So, not very happy I spent money for this. Should have given it away for free, I'd have bought Connor's book anyway.
Loving Tiger 💕 so much. Loving his amazing novella beyond words. As always he followed the call for help and this time, he ended up finding and rescuing someone super special. She who would turn out to be my favorite future heroine. I am willing to wait for however long for her love story. Because I will get to see more of Tiger, more of his family along the way.
Loved this novella. Gives a glimpse into Tiger's past and explores his bond with Carly. Of course I will always want more and look forward to hearing more about the tiger girl in the future.
I don't read many m/f books, but a friend lent it to me and I thought I would give it a try. Didn't really grab my attention so I returned it without finishing.
My review and an extended sample of the audiobook are posted at Hotlistens.com.
Tiger Striped is a novella set in the Shifters Unbound series. In this series, shifters are under strict regulation by the human government. They have to wear collars that will shock them if they “too” violent. They are also not allowed to have the most up-to-date technology, have certain jobs and are required to live in special communities called “shifter towns”.
This story follows Tiger. He is a shifter who was bred in a lab and was kept in a cage most of his life. That is until the Austin shifters came to his rescue and he got his HEA in Tiger Magic (book 5). He continues to be a integral character in the series. While he is a bit wild and only wears a fake collar to trick the humans to think he has one, he is also a protector. He has quite the way with children. He also has a knack for just “knowing” things.
So this book starts off with Tiger being woken up from a sleep being “called” from somewhere. He doesn’t know who needs his help or where exactly he needs to go to help them, but the call is more than he can handle, so he must go. His mate, Carly, refuses to let him go alone. The young Connor Morrissey stowed away to help too.
This is a short, but fun story as Tiger travels across state lines (another thing shifters aren’t supposed to do) to save someone who is calling out to him sublimity. It is great to see Tiger and Carly together and to spend some time with Connor, who has been a fairly minor character in the series (I hope he will get his story soon, but he is still considered a cub, even in though he is in his early twenties). The suspense and action was fun too (I can’t say more, because spoilers).
I think you could read this novella without having read the series. I think that the author does a good job of giving you what you have to know to understand the world (even if you don’t understand everything about this world, you get enough to understand this story). That being said, I think you will better understand the story if you read the whole series. There are also some minor spoilers for earlier books in the series if you read this one first.
Narration I’m so glad that Jennifer Ashley was able to get Cris Dukehart to continue the series now that she’s self-publishing. Cris has done a great job with the narration of this series, which is long and has a large cast with many different accents and age groups (including small children, which she does really well).
We first learned Tiger's story in TIGER MAGIC, and since then, he and his mate, Carly, have created a loving life together, and have an infant son, Seth. Tiger is awakened one night to a strong feeling of something being majorly wrong, and he receives a telepathic distress call for help. This call is powerful and unlike anything Tiger has experienced before. He doesn't know who it's from, or where he has to go, he just knows he must go now. Carly awakens, and is determined to go along. They hit the road, unaware at first that they have a stowaway young lion-shifter in back.
Carly is concerned, never having seen Tiger like this, but she follows his directions. They keep driving until they come to a secluded house. Along the way, they have been followed by mysterious men, as well as police. Now in this house, Tiger finds who has been sending him the urgent message. The unexpected captive is someone very important from Tiger's past, someone who will impact and change his and Carly's life - that is, if they are able to overcome the police, guards, mystery men, and the prison itself.
Though this story is short, it's filled with plenty of action as well as emotion. Jennifer Ashley's shifter world has its inhabitants treated as less than second class citizens, forced to wear collars, and live in specified areas. Yet, these creatures exhibit more loyalty and love than most humans. TIGER STRIPED includes an exciting and surprising twist, while showcasing Tiger's and Carly's strong love and devotion to each other. I love the character of Tiger, and this fast paced story only made me adore him even more. He's a mysterious figure, exceptionally strong, yet gentle and kind to his family. Carly is his perfect mate, and I can't wait to see what the surprise that was revealed in this book portends for their future.
This was not next in my listening TBR, but when I saw it was a quick listen, and was about Tiger, I couldn't resist sneaking it in the lineup. I have loved Tiger since he made his first appearance in the Shifters Unbound series. His relationship with Carly is just the epitome of the mate bond. It is awesome.
In this quick novella, Tiger is awakened in the night by a sense of urgency that he needs to help someone. In his every day life he is used to find people with his senses. But this is different. The noise in his head and his instincts tell him this person is in desperate need of help. As is his way, he jumps up and is determined to find his way to this person.
I loved that Carly and Connor went along for the ride with this one. We get to see a lot of the mate bond between Carly and Tiger. That just makes me melt like a puddle of mush. She understands him like no one else can. Connor has always been kind of a sidekick with Tiger. They like to tinker on cars together and I think they have established a good friendship.
Tiger Striped was a great adventure and then the surprise at the end made the anxiety of the chase just SO sweet! The ending will change Tiger's life forever. It blew me away and I was truly shocked. I'm anxious to see how this new development works it's way into future books!
I don't think I need to say much about the narration. Cris Dukehart has done an amazing job with this series since day one and continues to bring these stories to life. Tiger Striped was a great listen and I definitely recommend this series in audiobook! This review was originally posted on Rantings of a Reading Addict
Based on the extremely weird order I read this series in, I'm going to go out on a limb and say I haven't yet read Tiger's book. Which was actually okay as far as keeping up with what was going on, because some things are universal with these shifters. The restrictive rules, the shadowy background characters, and a shifters driving need to protect his mate at all costs.
Of course, Tiger isn't exactly standard shifter fare. His ability to track is unparalleled and his strange knowing is...well, maybe that part was explained in his book. Whether it was or not, he knows things sometimes. And this time he knows someone needs him even though he doesn't know who they are or where they're being held.
He just knows, man. He just knows.
Being awesome, Carly doesn't try to stop him when the need to follow his knowing kicks in. She simply puts on her shoes and follows her dude wherever he leads.
Good thing, too, because Tiger *needed* to do this thing. He needed to.
It probably doesn't need to be said, but I liked this book and I'm still digging the Shifters Unbound world.
Tiger is unique unto himself and when he is the focus of one of the Shifter books he shines. In this story he practically blinds, especially at the end chapters when an unexpected twist changes his world permanently.
Mate-of-his-heart Carly is a perky, constantly chattering, supportive without conditions human female whose connection to Tiger always astounds the man as well as his beast. Their love is unmeasurable by any standard and is a beacon of hope to Shifters still looking to find their own mate.
For this short we are given a long road trip which apparently annoyed some readers as the way things played out at journeys end went too fast in comparison. I however enjoyed every page from beginning to end because the road trip itself built on previous knowledge of background about Tiger which this fan appreciated learning.
Looks like there are some interesting times ahead for the Austin Shifter town and it's inhabitants, eager to see what will transpire in their future as the series continues.
