Rydak knew he’d never have a Chosen. His empathic touch blessed and cursed him with the ability to read and sense the emotions of everyone he came in contact with. Until her. Lissi Alonson, sister to the Unit Leader of the Jutak warriors he respected and a woman he’d be a fool to fall for.
For years, Lissi had a crush on the elite soldier in her brother’s Unit but the proud Jutak ignored her every attempt to get his attention. Then one night changes everything and he’ll defy his personal rules to spend his life with her by his side.
The female MC is like a 12 year old and her crush on this dude is hella awkward. Also, she was slammed up against a wall face first and sexually assaulted, but nobody seems to notice her fucked up face and it's never mentioned again by anyone. Like, it seems that the author forgot she had beaten up her character. Annoying all around.
Michelle Howard is one of the many fabulous new authors I’ve discovered through “Bookbub” offerings at free or reduced prices. This particular series happens to be one of my favorites.
Although Ms. Howard could still use a good editor, the strength of her writing outweighs the grammatical errors in the book. And she still needs to look up the difference between the words “past” and “passed”. I’ve pointed this out before in my reviews of some of her other books in this series, so perhaps she isn’t reading every review of her books anymore.
This particular book tells the love story between Lissi Alonson, the sister of the Jutak warrior Unit Leader, Torkel Alonson, and Rydak Jaard, the arrestingly handsome Jutak warrior in one of teams supervised by Torkel. It also has a suspenseful climax where Lissi’s life is in danger.
Lissi has had a serious crush on Rydak for years, but he has always more or less ignored her. In an attempt to get closer to him, she suggests that they just be friends. Rydak has admired Lissi from afar as well, but he has a problem that she knows nothing about. He is an empath and if someone touches him, he can read the emotions and sometimes the thoughts of that person. But the absolute worst part is that it causes him intense pain that he tries to deal with once he’s alone. As a result, he was reluctant to establish a relationship with anyone, especially Lissi . But he thought he could handle being just friends with her.
How these two potential lovers manage to work things out and the suspenseful climax make this a book certain to appeal to all romance readers, not just sci-fi romance readers. Well done, Ms. Howard!
WOW!!!! I could not put Rydak’s Fall down. This is the 5th book in the series A World Beyond by Michelle Howard. This is the story of how Lissi and Rydak got together. How he first denied his feeling toward her and she never lost faith that they would be together. It tells the struggles Rydak had because of his heritage and the empathetic skills via touch that he inherited from his family. He loved Lissi but thought he would never be with her. Lissi has known for a long time that she loved Rydak and everyone tried to change her mind but she wanted only him. She knew her family knew why he wouldn’t have anything to do with her but they always refused to answer her questions. She decided to take everything slow starting with just bringing his friend and go from there. Everyone will enjoy this book. Characters from the previous books are back working well together. It’s a must read!!!!!!
Not what I expected, but nice. Lissi was very annoying in the beginning. Very naive and childish. Later in the book a realized she was naive because of the way she grew up. Always protected by Torkel and her parents. She really didn’t have her mother’s strength, but she was tenacious and very loving. She grew on me. Loved everything about Rydak. Under neath all that strength was a loving, huge heart. One thing that disturbed me was when Rydak rescued Lissi from the rapists, there was that passionate scene between them. Very strange. She was just almost raped. Why would she possibly want to be groped by anyone after that. All in all, I did enjoy the book. Not as much as Torkel or Kyele’s, but it was pretty good. Enjoy.
Being a Kindle Unlimited member I rarely purchase books but couldn't stop myself with this series. I was captured by the first book and couldn't stop from then. I have just finished book 5 Rydak's Fall and it is 4:26am and I am emotional . Such good smooth writing and story telling. I find it amazing that Michelle has this incredible ability to imagine these books and then bring them to life in the written word. Each book in this series has its own different storyline, you think you have nearly reached the end but find you are pleasantly being led into another outcome. Well worth paying for thank you Michelle and I look forward to the next book. Chubbs
I don't know if I want to read this series but I'm giving it a chance. I wish this was the first book cos then it would have made sense with the sequence of the series but I guess the incorporating earth woman to an alien planet was the start of it hence they couldn't start with this.
So far probably my favorite (definitely reading out of order). I found it very emotional or maybe I could relate with some of the underlying feelings since I’m currently going through a painful divorce. Sat at my hairdresser’s today and cried while finishing the book. Why four stars if my favorite so far...darn editing! Worse yet. Oh, before I forget.....fabulous cover - dah-yam! I may be getting a divorce but I’m not dead because of it. 😉
I love this series. It was nice to go back in time to get to know Lissi and Rydak. I love the relationship between Jahul and Rydak. It was very special. Lissi is sweet. She sticks to her true self and does not let a stubborn man get away with his fears. If course how can you not love Torkel?
Been waiting for this one. When Rydak and Lissi were in Torkel's book as a married couple with children you always wanted to know how they met, why he could touch only her, what was their story. Well Michelle finally gave us their story, I'm so happy it finally came. Worth reading, get this one for an enjoyable story.
I enjoyed this story. The world is fun. There are quite a few typos and misused or missing words, but the author makes the stories interesting and the characters (main & secondary) likeable. Although all get books feel like they are ending and then ramp up for another four or five chapters before some of the best epilogues I've ever had the privilege to read.
Rydak has intrigued me from when he was mentioned in the first book in this series. He seems quite an intimidating character and you wonder how he ended up with Torkel's brother. I have to admit the book lived up to my expectations and I thoroughly enjoyed reading Rydak's story and how it all started with Lissy.
Another fantastic read from Michelle Howard, can't wait for more in this series.
This book had me going.....it’s like going back and forth with these strong men who will do anything to save each other, friends and family. I would so recommend this book for mature adults 18+. Really need to enjoy this series from book 1 until now. Book 6 is next to read for me. I hope there is more of these ferocious men to come.
Lissi is the sister to Ryak's boss and has had a huge crush on Ryak since she met him. Ryak really likes Lissi but because he suffers bad migraine type of debilitating headaches when he touches anyone he figures a mate is a list cause. But the heart wants what the heart wants.
I enjoyed this book, it had just the right amount of action. I really like that she knew what she wanted and went after it. Looking forward to the next one, want to see Jaron meet his mate.
I absolutely love this series! Each warrior is unique and has different abilities along with their own problems. This author is able to write a story that you enjoy getting lost in.
Have no doubts, if you like alien romance and chemistry between a alpha male his female, this is a series for you! I couldn't put the first book down and now anxious for book 6 ! I am a huge fan of this author!!
I have to sadly admit that this my least favorite book from this series. First, I never imagined that the author was going to go that back in time. Then the whole story was not something surprising. It was more like desesperating.
I really wanted to give this book a higher rating since I adore the series, but Lissi and Rydak's relationship was almost plain compared to the other heroes and heroines in this series. I'd still recommend this book and series to readers but for myself, this story was far from my favorite.
Sometimes we need a story that just makes you smile, this book or series just leaves you feeling good at the end. I can not wait for the next book in the series.
Slow to get started, as Lissi is annoying. Also, definitely not a standalone, you need to read at least Torkel's Chosen or Kyele's Passion to really enjoy this one.
I love this prequel of how Lissi won Rydak's heart! It's a fierce and beautiful story of love and heartache, gifts and loyalty & pain and determination.
