After the Flare: The complete series - Alone in the Apocalypse plus Adventures in the Apocalypse
The Sun is entering a period of solar activity that makes the famous Carrington event of 1859 pale by comparison. Just that alone will knock out the grid, kill most vehicles and fry electronics. The USA is not prepared for this catastrophe, and the entire world will go back 150 years in technology and living standards. Hardened military vehicles and pre-electronic vehicles will be the only machines moving not drawn by a horse, mule or camel. People with pacemakers will fall dead, planes will fall out of the sky and transportation will come to a halt. People will starve; riots and looting will start all across the world. 60% of the world’s population will die off the first year. Alone in the Apocalypse is a post-apocalyptic tale about a series of solar events that test the mettle of a man who just wants to live alone in remote Wyoming. Will the solar catastrophe or his fellow man kill him, or can he prevail? What would you do to survive? Read “Alone in the Apocalypse and find out what Matt Jones does to survive. Adventure in the Apocalypse continues Matt’s story. He has been stranded on a small sailboat with no memory and only his wits to survive. He feels that he has to find someone but can’t remember whom they are or for that matter who he is. Mary and Patty have been separated from him, and they have to make it on their own in a hostile world with danger lurking around every corner. Attacks by pirates are offset by meeting new friends as the saga continues. Will Matt get his memory back? Which lady is his soul mate and will he ever see her again? Those are the questions, and this last book in the series will answer those questions.
Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the Goodreads database with this name.
A.J. Newman is the author of over 22 novels that have been published on Amazon. He was born and raised in a small town in the western part of Kentucky. His Dad taught him how to handle guns very early in life, and he and his best friend Mike spent summers shooting .22 rifles and fishing. He read every book he could get his hands on and fell in love with science fiction. He graduated from USI with a degree in Chemistry and made a career working in manufacturing and logistics, but always fancied himself as an author. He served six years in the Army National Guard in an armored unit and spent six years performing every function on M48 and M60 army tanks. This gave him a great respect for our veterans who lay their lives on the line to protect our country and freedoms. He currently resides in Kentucky with his wife Patsy and their three tiny mop dogs, Sammy Cotton and Callie.
This is a different approach to TEOTWAWNI and is a fresh idea.
I chose the rating, not on the idea of the book but because of numerous grammatical errors. I am to prone to think that the writer was intoxicated or the editor was similarly Compromised as well as the proof reader. I still enjoyed reading this book.
Weird. A riddle with a riddle. Hard to know who and in what person you are reading. That said, it was mostly interesting but quite unrealistic. Started to quit several times but I hate to do that. Would I read it again knowing how it turns out? Eeh?
This story was built around a great concept and Mr. Newman developed his characters well. But, unfortunately, it read like a 1st grade reader. "See Matt run. See Matt and Mary. See Mary run." It was disjointed and almost jarring to read.
I have gained a lot of good advice for preparedness from Mr. Newman's book plots. His honest representation of possible events have made me shudder and get more serious about prepping.
