Midnight Confessions

Robyn Carr

MIDNIGHT CONFESSIONS is book 10.5 in the Virgin River series. I started this series years ago and I'm on a mission to finish it up this year.

It sure was nice to visit my old friends in Virgin River. MIDNIGHT CONFESSIONS is a quick story but it sure does pack a punch. Sunny Archer is visiting Virgin River for the holidays. She was left at the alter and is licking her wounds. She really could care less about the holidays and that is the feeling she projects while sitting in Jack's Bar on New Years Eve. In walks Drew Foley, also visiting for the holidays and he can't take his eyes off of her. Oh people, hang on tight. Poor Drew is in for the ride of his life.

Oh let me tell you, Drew is going to definitely give you all the feels. That's all I'm saying.......anyway, after some time, things between Sunny and Drew calm down after she explains to him what her past was like. Drew is horrified that Sunny suffered the way she did! But it's also very sweet and I'm really happy Sunny opened up to Drew and explained why she is the way she is. She is controlling and uptight and Drew doesn't think he stands a chance. Hang on people, MIDNIGHT CONFESSIONS is a fun and crazy ride.

MIDNIGHT CONFESSIONS is a quick read that You can easily read in one sitting and love every minute of it. If you've never read the Virgin River series you could easily start with this heart warming story. But be prepared to go back and read the whole series! It's just that good! The only problem I have with this series, besides the fact that Robyn Carr is finished writing it is that I am always left with wishing Virgin River was a real place. I would pack my bags in a New York minute and move there!

MIDNIGHT CONFESSIONS had me neglecting my household duties but I didn't care! I was worried about what was going to happen to all of these wonderful people. I did not want to put this beautiful and fun story down. I also got to meet a few more new members from Virgin River as we do with each and every book. I also love how you get to check in with the other couples from the previous books. Can't wait for the TV series to hit Netflix!

Audible Audio Version titled ‘Tis the Season with both Under the Christmas Tree and Midnight Confessions. I am reading the series in order so this review is only about Midnight Confessions.

Too short and Drew deserved more of a story.

Listened via Audible Escape to a duet of this book and Under the Christmas Tree. This one was titled Midnight Kiss which I believe is also labeled as Midnight Confession - confusing I know.

Audiobook: Narrator - Therese Plummer
As always an excellent job. I’d listen to her read the phone book!

These were both cute, sweet and fun with just a touch of angst. I definitely liked Under the Christmas Tree more since it felt more rounded and well developed. But both are great listens for the holidays.

Light lovely holiday romance. This was the second in a set of novellas offered by Audible and it was perfect to listen to as I took down the Christmas decorations.
I did have hard time believing he carried her 2 miles on his back in the snow, but what the hey, maybe it’s happened! 😂

A sweet novella that combines previously unmet, but mentioned relatives of prior characters in the series. Same nice writing by Carr with a happy for now ending that promises a bright future for Drew and Sunny. It was also a nice reintroduction to Nate and Annie after meeting them in the previous year's Christmas novella (Under the Christmas Tree.)

Learning to Move On

Moving on when you feel so broken can be one of the hardest things a person can do. We have to learn from our mistakes and accept that we can be better people and move on to a better life. We learn to realize that sometimes things aren’t meant to be. This is the theme throughout Robyn Carr’s novella Midnight Confessions.

Plot

Sunny and Drew have both been through pretty rough breakups in the past year. Both intended on spending the rest of their lives with their partners and have been spending the past few months trying to figure out exactly where things went wrong. When they meet at the New Year’s Eve party in small town Virgin River, it seems like they would be a good fit. However, when Drew approaches Sunny, it’s clear that she’s not quite ready to move on from the man who left her at the altar exactly a year ago. Drew doesn’t give up so easily though. Smitten by Sunny, he works to get her to open up and try to take on a new outlook as the midnight hour approaches. A new life for a new year.

Characters

Sunny and Drew are so rounded and down to earth in this story. They have no problem admitting that they are flawed, but know that they each have something to offer in a relationship. On top of that, they are both so driven by their passions and are respectful of each other. They make the sweetest pair as they discover more about each other throughout the story. Neither sees the other as perfect, but also know that that isn’t important because nobody is.

Reviewer’s Thoughts

This was a great New Year’s story. You could really feel the atmosphere of the approaching new year. Resolutions were being made, laughter and reminiscing was occurring, and it was just overall a very joyful story. The story only spans a single night, but it had a great pace. The story unfolded with flashbacks that propelled the story forwards. As the two main characters confessed their issues with the past year to each other, they both began discovering things they’d never seen before. It was so great how supportive they were of each other throughout this time.

I only have one qualm about this story – and it occurred within the last couple of chapters. I felt like Sunny’s self revelations unfolded way too suddenly. One minute she was of one opinion about her wedding day and the next she was saying the exact opposite. It was just way too sudden with no real backing to the realization. Other than this though, I felt this was an amazing story. The characters weren’t confessing their love for each other by the end of the night, but they were open to trying something new and seeing where the new year took them. It was sweet and ended beautifully. I recommend this story for anyone looking for a quick, sweet, well-written holiday romance. In the end, I give this story 4 out of 5 stars.

Last year at the same date, Sunny got left at the altar by the groom. For this New Year's Eve, she doesn't feel like celebrating and she's still sulking about what happened, but her uncle and his girlfriend convince her to go with them to Jack's bar where a charismatic and easygoing man will mess with her plan to stay away from men.

What a pleasant suprise this novella was ! I'm no stranger to the sweet town and its people that is Virgin River, but at the beginning, I thought that the heroine's bitchy attitude would ruin the romance. But once we get the whole story about her ex and that she admit she was rude and apologized for it to the hero, I was more understanding of her reaction. Oh and how I loved Drew ! I didn't expect him to be that amazing ! So funny, witty and charming ! He transformed Sunny's bad memory about the New Year's Eve into a beautiful one. After the man-child she almost married, it was great that Drew was so mature, serious in his courtship and ready about sharing his life. He was really perfect for Sunny.

My favorite scene is when Drew explain what he liked about being in a committed relationship and sharing space with someone. I also liked Jack's idea about the resolutions for the New Year. Originally, I read this novella in the hope of seeing Jack and the others but even if their presence was brief and not all were present, I had so much fun reading about Sunny and Drew getting to know each other and falling in love that I didn't care and I'm really happy with this short story :)

Midnight Confessions is book 10.05 in the Virgin River Series by Robyn Carr. New Year's Eve has arrived in Virgin River, and the traditional party is at Jack's Bar, where the community gathers to the countdown and the Midnight Kiss. Two guests, Drew Foley and Sunny Archer, were less eager to enjoy this festive time due to a bad break-up in their relationship. However, Drew Foley and Sunny Archer started to talk to each other and realised that they might be able to help each other to love again. The readers of Midnight Confessions would continue to follow Drew Foley and Sunny Archer to discover what happens.

Midnight Confessions is a sweet romantic novella and a fantastic addition to this beautiful series by Robyn Carr. I engaged with the characters and the stories from the start. I love Robyn Carr's portrayal of her characters and how they intertwine throughout this book. Midnight Confessions is well-written and researched by Robyn Carr. I like Robyn Carr's description of the settings of Midnight Confession that complemented the book's plot.

The readers of Midnight Confessions will understand that sometimes things do not plan out the way you dream of, but it is not the end of the world. Something more exciting will turn up. The readers of Midnight Confessions will learn about being a professional photographer.

I recommend this book.

Normally the novellas are just a flash in the pan, but this novella had a lot more meat to it. Once again our couple are related to people in the small-ish and isolated town of Virgin River. This time neither one is a member of the Armed Services. (They really should open a VA clinic in this town.) We have a doctor and a photographer both nursing broken hearts. (Yes, they were made for each other. The man is remarkably well rounded.)

I really enjoyed it and can't wait to see this couple again. As I get closer to the end of the series, I get sadder and sadder.

4.5 stars. Less than 5 only because it is a novella and I didn't get to know the characters as well as I'd like to. I love the sweetness of these stories. Oh to be adored like the Virgin River men adore their women!

This was a “half book” in the series so not as well developed in the story line or characters. Generally speaking the writing style was the same though and it was an easy read with the same set up of character relationships to the other books in the series. The set up of a one day romance was kind of silly but that’s the course of this genre.

Shorter than her other "short" books, it is definitely worth a read to keep up with the characters. I'm used to even her shorter stories having more meat to them, though.

Back to Virgin River!

I was so sad to see the Virgin River series end so what a delight to go back there, if only for a while. Two people who have experienced a broken relationship meet at Jack's bar on New Year's Eve; one who has learned to move on and one who hasn't. Drew, tired of studying, goes to Jack's bar for a holiday drink and sees a beautiful, sad looking woman who's trying to hide in a corner, hoping no one comes to talk to her. Sunny has learned to keep a wall around her and not invite anyone in, especially men. But Drew is not one to let that bother him until she completely shuts him down. She realizes that she has been rude to him and others so she makes the attempt to come out of her year long melancholy and take a chance on letting the past go. Robyn Carr's characters are very real and relatable. It was so wonderful for me to go back to the Virgin River community and remember what was so special about that place!

Lovely story if rather unrealistic in it's extremes. The usual cast of characters from Virgin River makes a y book, entered there, enjoyable reading. In this book the 2 main characters, a young man who is a surgical resident at a major California hospital and a young woman who is establishing her credentials as a photographer who specializes in photographing of people's major events, weddings, new babies, and anniversaries. She shows her clients at their happiest.

Both young people have had major disappointments during the past year and are not at their best this New Year eve. She is determined to never date or become friends with a man again. He feels as if his job is too intense, time consuming and overwhelming to have a personal relationship until he has completed his residence - several years away.

But it's New Year's Eve and they are the only singles at Jack's Bar that night.

(Breathe in. Breathe out. Try to calm yourself.)
Alright, I needed that—really badly. This book and its main couple had their past so similar they could almost pass as freaking Siamese twins.
Why was it so important to mention Drew's never-seen fiancée in previous book if the author was determined to split them up in the next book (or novella, in this case) anyway? I would gladly ignore that fact if it were not for the jilted heroine. And sadly, it wasn't the first time something like this happened. It's really getting on my nerves. Hell, is it so hard to come up with two different backstories for couples (or just different ones, period)? I'm sure they could've had some other common ground—like hobbies and whatnot.
(The calmness didn't last long...)
