Honest to GOD my favourite thing that I’ve ever read in my entire life. I read it (FOR FREE!) on WEBTOONS. I have absolutely no criticisms for this graphic novel. The art if phenomenon. The characters are so well written and the character growth is evident and natural as the story progresses. This author really knows how to get you to feel for his characters. After reading, you feel like these characters are your friends. Lots of humour, but also has some pretty serious underlying themes that really get you thinking about your life. This story has me laughing, crying, gasping, and leaves me breathless. As of the time I’m posting this review, the story hasn’t finished yet and it kills me to have to wait every week for an update because every chapter leaves you wanting more. Even if you don’t like sports related reading material, I would still recommend you give this a try. As of today, there are 268 chapters that have been translated into English (and still going!) and it only took me 3 days to read because I could not put it down. Despite reading a lot, I don’t post reviews here on goodreads but this story is so amazing that I just have to let everyone know how phenomenal it is. I seriously hope that after reading this review you are able to check it out and experience it’s magic yourself!
These kids are going to kill each other over some bike races—and it’s incredible on every level.
It’s no secret that I’m a sports manga fan. The epic match-ups, dynamic art styles, and unparalleled character development—it makes the genre so fantastic.
Sports manhwa is no exception.
Honestly, if other sports manhwa are anything like Wind Breaker, this genre might just surpass its manga counterpart.
This is just such a rich story.
Ostensibly, it’s about cycling and competing crews trying to be the best racers. But, beneath that surface level, there’s so much more to this story.
It’s really heavy.
In this story, so many issues come up—abusive relationships, traumatic experiences, substance abuse, extortion, blackmail, suicidal ideation, violence of every type—to name just a few. Honestly, there is a lot more relationship, family, and otherwise interpersonal drama in this series than I expected. It’s very emotionally intense—much more so than you’d expect from your typical sports manga.
I had a lot of WTF moments reading this series.
Like, some of this sh*t is f*cked up big time.
We start out riding our bikes but very quickly find ourselves in fist fights in the streets, bashing in noses, breaking limbs, knocking people off bikes at incredible speeds, jackknifing people with bikes (which I didn’t even know you could do???), pulling out knives—and straight up trying to murder kids over bike races. It’s insane.
I got a long list of fight on sight characters from this series.
They’re all so well-dressed—but, damn are some of these characters human garbage. Just absolute trash. Weasels.
It pisses me off—but I love it, too.
This series swings wildly between epic highs and epic lows.
There are some great redemption moments here—but, just as many unforgivable moments too. Some characters come back from holes you didn’t know anyone could crawl out of and some characters fall lower than you ever imagined someone could. [I’m looking at you Sangho—I hope the guilt eats you alive.]
All the tragedy aside, this series is also hella funny.
It’s got some great running jokes/gags and has some choice meme references throughout. I laughed out loud plenty of times reading this.
Anyway.
Highly recommend picking up this series—though I must warn you that it’s HIGHLY addictive. I binged over 500 chapters in like 6 days cause I couldn’t stop reading it every free moment I had. It’s just so good~
seriously, this one of my favorite webtoon. It is soooo amazing. The story arc, the plot twist, the art everything is top notch. The development of characters is fantastic. The story is realistic and smooth going. Its currently going on and I just can'wait to read more of it. I didn't really read sports or action comics but after reading it, sports gerne became my favorite. I would recommend everyone to read it.

edit: (a message from me in the future) after completing all 3 fully released seasons, I can confidently say that Windbreaker has taken over my life and is now one of my all time favourite Webtoons ever
I fell in love with Air Gear years ago, that was about inline skating and not fully realistic. I never thought I'd fall in love with a realistic manga about cycling! 🙏 This is brilliant work.
I read the wrong Wind Breaker. Was supposed to read the one that is a Japanese manga about a school full of fighters, but ended up reading the Korean manga about high school kids racing each other on regular bikes. It was a sad and sorry mistake. Mostly because the other Wind Breaker is really fun, has great characters who are thrilling to be around with, has distinct art and has an unique approach to a subgenre of manga that has been done very well multiple times in the past. This Wind Breaker has none of that. In the prologue we are introduced to a bland looking protagonist who is supposed to be made to look cool because he is good at bike racing, but also has a crew and abundant support system. But as you continue reading what would seem like the first novel, I get a different impression. Jahyun, is a smug and rude son of a b. While he excels academically, mostly due to the pressure his family puts on him, he is brash and off-putting. Even to the nerdy but very cute girl who has the most obvious crush on him. That is his persona during the day. At night he fights crimes (just kidding). At night he is the exact same person, but just rides bikes around town in a very dangerous and acrobatic seeming way. We don’t know how or why he likes doing what he does. If it’s a passion or some particular form of intrinsic or extrinsic motivation. We just know he rides them and he’s brilliant at it, like everything else in life. Another example of people misreading what a stoic character should be and crafting them as a heartless, soulless void husk of a person. Somehow, just by accident, some of his classmates figure out he drives bikes. They have sort of a crew and invite him. Jahyun stays true to his poorly, one dimensionally written character and rejects them. The leader of the crew is fancy looking Minwoo. He is a very cool guy. Why? Because we see him talk to not just one, but multiple female classmates! Oh and the other crucial element of his coolness and swagger, he wears sunglasses! At SCHOOL! How am I not fainting while writing this! Anyway. Our stuck up one note protagonist decided to show up at a race Minwoo invited him to. Minwoo just wants him there to embarrass some rich kid he hates. Sneaky Sneaky. This also proves that Minwoo is the only character with two dimensions in the whole manhwa. Great Success! The rich prick of a kid and the stuck up soulless I do it my way for my own unknown reasons protagonist race. The rich kid plays dirty, but our protagonist is too good and wins even with the other guy cheating. The end, of the first volume and my ordeal. The manhwa isn’t all bad. While most of its colored pages are bland, hard to look at excuses finished in Microsoft Paint 98, the black and white parts, usually reserved for flashbacks, have a very ethereal beauty about them. I wish most of the manhwa was draw and created in this way. It would be a much more pleasing visual experience, since in terms of the literary quality it rivals an average “glued” together page of a Playboy magazine.
