Why did this book leave off on such a cliffhanger?? It wasn’t even the middle of a trial, it was a cold, harsh cliffhanger. I better get my hands on the next instalment soon or I’m going to be so upset. Anyway…..
Spoilers Ahead:
The student behind the murder of Hifumi Yamada and Kiyotaka Ishimaru is none other than Taeko Yasuhiro- aka Celeste. Her execution is performed in the fashion of being tied to a witch burning stake with fire beneath her only to be hit by a truck by Monokuma. The next death is that of Sakura Ogami which originally seems to be by the hand of her best friend Aoi Asahina, but is later determined as a suicide(performed out of guilt of being the mole). Asahina wanted to frame herself for the murder so the other students would reach an incorrect verdict and all get killed- thus ending the sick and twisted games. Because there could be no execution after this tragedy- Alter Ego (the AI personification of Chihiro) is bulldozed by Monokuma. Six students still stand, a seventh mysterious addition to the game: Mukuro Ikusaba. 4/5☆

It's been almost a year since I've read v.2--time sure flies, doesn't it?--and I saw this as I perused my Comoxology library trying to figure out what to read. Figured I should continue it as I'm almost done (there's only four volumes) so I can stop trying to remember I'm still knee deep in the series.
There's really only one statement that I've made in each of my reviews for the prior volumes: The visual novel is a much much much much much much better way to experience the story. Volume 3 is no different, and I imagine v.4 won't be either. And as with the first two volumes, the manga exists as a fine surface-level skimming of the story; v.4 will be more of the same, just with a conclusion. And as with the first two volumes, the value in reading the manga rather than playing the visual novel boils down to time. Along with a super truncated narrative comes a much lower time commitment.
Anyway, you know if you're interested in this or not because you've either read v.2 or you haven't, and if you have, whether or not you intent to continue reading. This is nothing different.
So, this third volume in this manga series is just as nuts as the previous two.
8 of the 15 students selected as the best in their areas of expertise (fashion, music, sports, martial arts, etc.) are left in Hope's Peak Academy at the beginning of this entry.
This is insane manga, so instead of a fancy school, they've been kidnapped by a blood-thirsty, talking teddy bear who lets them know that the only way out of the school is to kill another student without being identified as the killer by the remaining students.
It's down to the final 8, and by the end, the students left alive are ready to find and destroy the mastermind behind the maniacal talking teddy bear.
It's gonzo and the dialogue is stilted, and yet I can't stop reading these. Will any of the students be left standing?
This is based on a video game, but I know nothing about that.
This installment leaves off on a serious cliffhanger, so I'm going to have to jump right on the next one. We see the characters learn more about the "event" that may have started this whole thing, but we also see the game begin to unravel. We don't have too many students left, and this one raised more questions than answered them. Hmmm... Very fun.
For: readers looking for an exciting, compelling series with a strong cast of characters and lots of suspense.
Possible red flags: gore, blood, murder, violence, characters in peril, suicide; manipulation and holding people against their will; Dissociative Personality Disorder; mentions of sex and sexual situations, though not graphically shown or discussed; death of family members; being haunted by the past.
Only 8 out of 15 left and the murders still keep coming. You'd think they'd eventually learn to, you know, gang up on the one who's actually behind all of this!
This last murder is a doozy. Two dead and all fingers are pointed to one student who claims innocence. The pieces fit together, just not in the order you think they do. The ending of this volume also leaves a lot unsaid.
Volume Three covers from the Chapter 3 trial to Chapter Five’s Daily Life, and ends with a body exploding—with Naegi suspecting it’s Kirigiri’s. Overall, it’s good, but I really don’t see the point of drawing Celeste so ugly in the trial… I don’t remember the original game(s) being this creepy… eww they did her really bad
I've seen the anime once and I don't remember everything, so the manga is still suspensefull! Hopefully they'll make a manga out of the third season (both Future and Despair) as well and maybe more? The second season that's a game? A new manga? Defenitely up to it!

I enjoyed this one more than the last. The twists were much more satisfying. As always the art helps contribute to the story and all characters continue to grow in a satisfying way as they learn more about the school.
And now I'm done with the animation manga series (read them out of order because vol 3 was a bitch to find; also, I know the story already)! TBF, it is the weakest of all the DR manga series. It's not well-paced, and everything is so rushed... but, you know,
The premise is starting to wear thin with me. I want to see how this crazy story ends, but feel like it has been watered down. I wanted more of a mature Battle Royal type situation not a bunch of anime kids playing detective.
I think one of my favourite things about reading the mange of a game I really enjoy is that I'm noticing things I forgot about on my first play through. This is honestly just good stuff.
Also Kirigiri, babe, best character, honestly queen of my little weeb heart
