“When I ran away, aged seventeen, I didn’t do it for the usual reasons...I did it because I was looking for adventure.”
My name is Mira Brand, and I'm a Seeker – a treasure hunter who can cross between worlds seeking long-forgotten treasure hoards of ancient races. My home is London, but I work in the worlds beneath our own, seeking my fortune wherever I can find it.
Say, for example, in Ostiagard, which is like the Rome of Seeker world. Ostiagard is known as the City of Lies. A wealthy jewel and the seat of an ancient capital, it has been invaded thrice. Each time, not a single gemstone or piece of gold was carried off, and the invading armies ultimately retreated, convinced they'd been deceived about the wealth of Ostiagard.
I'm not convinced. I'm going to find the lost treasure of Ostiagard, and I'll fight my way through anything that comes my way to claim it – an ancient order, my bickering comrades, and even my greatest challenge ever.
Robert J. Crane was born and raised on Florida's Space Coast before moving to the upper midwest in search of cooler climates and more palatable beer. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in English Creative Writing. He worked for a year as a substitute teacher and worked in the financial services field for seven years while writing in his spare time.
A nice break from the Seeker adventures yet still one in a way. This book also introduced us more into how this universe works. What the Voids really are, how travel works, the trinkets, and the systems in place.
There were a few errors, like how one gate was opened by this character but a few paragraphs later the gate was supposedly opened and closed by the other character. There was also a rule about using trinkets, a restriction on what you can use but was multiple times ignored in the rest of the novel. Or, I could have misunderstood this trinket rule/restriction.
Regardless of those, full 5 stars for book 3! Now, let's begin the real adventure in book 4!
Oh, didn't I mention how the characters grew? Well done on building them up and keeping them realistic, characters we can relate to.
This is the third book of the Mira Brand Adventures. I have enjoyed reading it very much. The way Robert J. Crane makes the.characters come to life is outstanding. Each character has their own unique way about them. Adding a depth to the book that comes alive as you read each chapter. I am looking forward to reading book four. If you like adventure, comedy, and a great story line then this series might be just what your looking for. I hope you enjoy the books as I have.
This is, for me, the best of the series so far. Characters are established. Relationships forged. Back story dealt with.
And yet...
Characters are changing. Relationships are developing. Back story is becoming current story.
I really enjoyed this. I thought that one of the characters was being an uncharacteristic ass at points, but that behaviour just drew me into the story more.
Bring on book 4!!! (Please)
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Mira Brand is just unlikeable. I am taking the VERY rare option (for me) of tossing this book and the entire series. I have read other Crane books and enjoyed them, but he has created a pretty unpleasant character this time.
Really enjoyed the first two in this new series which set the scene & were character building as needed in any story. Thoroughly enjoyed the third even more so in what picked up the pace in terms of excitement & intrigue. Looks set to be another successful series for this brilliant author. Bring on the next Mira adventure!
