This is the final book for the Destined for Love: Mansions series. A good collection of stories that I've enjoyed reading.
I started off reading this book and was quickly drawn into the story with the introduction of Harrison, knowing that there was a damsel (ok, maybe not damsel but a woman) in need of rescue. Harrison, the gallant gentleman (and a good southern boy who was taught by his mama to treat everyone with respect and help others) agrees to help her. Harrison is our football hero who has just graduated with his Masters and starting an accounting job. His boss gives him his first assignment. Go help Grace. Her parents have now both passed away and she is struggling, yet something about her struggles are fishy. Her father left her well cared for so why the problems? Definitely needs a fresh set of eyes and a gentleman to help.
If you like stories with football heros and great southern gentleman, Harrison is your man. He was a great character! I loved the moments that we read from his point of view. I loved the moments when he shared more of his family life with Grace. We get to meet his family and they are loud and fun. And his sister actually has a book of her own, which there is a preview for at the end of this book. Harrison's goodness shone through for his character throughout the story.
Grace is sweet and very determined. She is going to work her heart out to make sure she preserves her family home and can use it for good as she follows her dreams. She longs for family and a big family at that. She's going to use her home to help others but her father's will has a couple stipulations that are making it a struggle to survive. When a big, brawny, and not to mention, her favorite football player of all time shows up on her doorstep, Grace can't believe her luck. Harrison is more than meets the eye and all that he seems at the same time. Sent by a family friend to help, he brings all the comfort and protection that she has been praying for.
Can Grace and Harrison solve the mystery of her life? Why is everything not going right? Who is causing the problems for her?
Usually I love the books I've read by Cami, but I didn't quite connect with these two characters until near the end of the story. Maybe it was my tired brain, maybe I would feel completely different if I read this book again a little later on. I felt like the characters could have been a little more developed but were rushed due to the length, possibly. I wanted more moments of connection between them. Don't get me wrong, there was plenty of page time between these two but I felt like a lot of the time they were thinking about the other and how good they looked. I think there are going to be lots of readers who will really enjoy it and love it. It was just an ok read for me but I'll definitely keep enjoying other books by Cami.
There is the underlying tension, or mystery, of trying to figure out how Grace is going to save her family home, all while trying to figure out who the people are that keep coming and wandering around her property at night. I had my suspicions for who/what/why and actually guessed it right. Yay! I think I really started to enjoy the book a lot more when Harrison surprises Grace with a little trip. From that scene to the end, I felt that I connected more to the story. And the suspense picks up at the end too...well obviously because it's the end. Hee Hee!
Content: Clean but with a little added spice. There is some very mild innuendo throughout. Mostly through flirting between the two characters, and thoughts they have about each other. The thoughts mostly consist of checking each other out and noticing the other's body, especially in swimsuits or when Harrison wakes up in the middle of the night without a shirt on. A couple scenes where the couple makes out but nothing further or graphic. Characters talk about not kissing too passionately or moving past kisses as they want to wait until marriage for sex. Some Christian religious elements. The characters think about God and ask him to guide them as well as showing gratitude to Him for helping them and blessing their individual lives. Not super spicy but a little more than sweet, but I would still say it is a clean read.
I received a review copy. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
This story has a promising premise, but I just could not get through it easily. I liked Harrison's character and the way he is such a gentleman, but Grace was such a spaz, and not in a cute way. The romance happened way too fast and I didn't feel any real connection between them. I thought it was irrational that Grace was sad and upset that Harrison came because his boss asked him to, but since they were complete strangers, why else would he be there? Her childhood friend that keeps coming on too strong was over the top and made me want to roll my eyes. I guess I'm a fan of more subtlety in villains. There was also a lot of repetition of why Grace's situation was so impossible and I found myself skimming to get to the parts where the plot moved forward.
(I received a complimentary copy of the book; all opinions in this review are my own)
I love this sweet Southern romance that revolves around a family mansion. Grace is an orphan and wants nothing more than to fix up her family home, although others are trying to convince her to sell. When Harrison shows up to help her out and to protect her, she's excited because he's her favorite former college football player.
I love how each book in this series has an element of mystery and this one is no exception. The threats and danger are real, yet I wish they would have been played up a bit more because Cami Checketts is one of my favorite romantic suspense authors and I would have loved just a bit more, especially as the ending felt a little rushed.
Grace is a brave woman, with her dreams driving her, because I would have given up at the first sign of opposition. However, she does have a few flaws, which really makes her more realistic. She gets so mad that Harrison is there because his boss asked him to go and is paying him. Why else would he be there, since they've never met before? My heart did break for her a little because not only are her parents passed, but she has no siblings and seems to have no close friends.
Harrison is big, courageous, gentle, gracious, and sweet, but he's got a few endearing flaws of his own, as he has a hard time putting his words together and often bumbles situations. I adored him and his family a lot, especially cute little Turk, his nephew.
This has been a series worth reading and each other has provided a stellar offering for the set. This is perfect for those who love a sweet romance with a dash of suspense.
Content: mild+ romance (kissing, some innuendo); moderate Christian elements; mild violence.
*I received a copy, which had no influence on my thoughts and opinions.*
Grace Addison doesn't want to lose her family's southern mansion. Both of her parents have died and being an only child, it's all she has left of her family. She’s struggling trying to fix up the house and live on the monthly allotment her father’s will left her. The house and the property need more than a little TLC—more than one person can handle, but she doesn’t have the money to hire anyone to help her. According to the twenty year old will she only gets $2,000 a month to live and maintain the house unless she either sells the house, gets married, or turns thirty. She’s not close to thirty yet, and there’s no way she’s selling her house, so she does the best with what she’s got. She may be a Southern Belle but she's tough and determined too. Henry Goodman promised Grace Addison’s father he would take care of his daughter so he sends his new employee, Harrison Jackson, former cornerback for Auburn’s football team, to Sycamore Bay to help Grace anyway he can. When Grace opens her door and finds her football crush, Harrison, on her porch she thinks she’s died and gone to heaven. Harrison helps Grace with the work around the mansion and the grounds and dealing with Beau, her longtime neighborhood and friend who wants to marry her. They get to know each other and she finds that Harrison is just as he seems—a handsome, southern gentleman with a heart of gold. Can he help her find the solution to her money problems and some of the weird things that have started happening around the house? This is the last book in the Destined for Love: Mansions series and I really liked how Grace and Harrison connected. Beau was supposed to be Grace’s friend but comes off as a jerk. She does mention that he’s changed over the past couple of years, but he does try to redeem himself towards the end. Harrison is so considerate of Grace and what she’s been through so he arranges a quick getaway to meet his sister and her family. I loved how they treated Grace as one of them as soon as they met her. Like a true Southern family. I could hear the Alabama accents while I read. Lol. Cami Checketts is a fairly new author to me (I’ve only read 2 or 3 books by her) but I like her characters and their playful dialogue.
I loved this book! It is my favorite in the Destined for Love: Mansions series. That being said, when I thought about the other books, I kept thinking, "Oh, I loved Lucinda Whitney's book, and Lindzee Armstrong's too, and The Princess and the Pizza Man." Do you see the trouble I was getting myself in? This was a good series, with strong contributions from all of the authors!
Auburn Football star, Harrison Jackson has put away his cleats, and is starting his job as an accountant. He's worried about how he'll adjust to sitting behind a desk all day, but his boss calls him in right away for a favor. Mr. Goodman has a family friend, Grace, whose father has died. She needs help looking though the will, fixing up the mansion she inherited, and keeping people away who are just trying to use her.
While Harrison goes to Alabama at his boss' request, he soon realizes that he would do anything to help Grace. And Grace needs plenty of help!
Have I already mentioned that I loved this story? Harrison is such a sweet and clueless guy. I love the lengths he goes to help Grace. He is loyal, and his only failings in the relationship department come from not understanding women. I love Harrison's sister, and the way that she sets him straight.
Grace is a great heroine. She is starstruck to find Harrison Jackson at her door, after watching him play football at her university the past year. I like that she brings Harrison out of his shell, and sees the real him. She is strong, but not afraid to accept help.
This book had a sweet romance with great chemistry, and a healthy dose of suspense. Just thinking about it makes me want to go read it again.
I read this book in less than a day. I could not put it down. A sweet clean Southern romance where the hero is a true gentleman and you cannot help but swoon over. Harrison is that guy. Taught right by his Momma, Harrison comes to Grace’s aid just in the nick of time. He treats her right and treats her like she is all that matters. Graces is alone and has a big heart and house to help fulfill her dreams. She is gracious and has a quick wit. She does not take crap from anyone. This book has it all and once you start, the story catches your attention quickly. Forget responsibilities and cuddle up to this swoon worthy romance. *Please note I received a complimentary copy of the book; all opinions in this review are my own.
There is something special about a romance with Southern charm. The sweetness, the respectfulness and the purity of true love that makes this story a true gem. Harrison is such a gentleman towards Grace. He is strong, compassionate and his willingness to help Grace in her time of need melts your heart. Grace's strength, determination, kindness and devotion to preserve her family home defines this southern belle.
This is a romance that blossoms in troubled times for Grace which, heightens the drama and suspense of the story. Will Grace be able to hold onto her family home? Why is someone trying to scare her? Who would want to see her come to harm? These are all good questions and concerns that Harrison and Grace need along with, can they have a happily ever after?
Well done and totally recommend this sweet and charming story.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Great wholesome sweet romance! 4-1/2 Stars! Mansions and southern accents are definitely a winning combination in this book. The southern accent jumps off the page while reading and you can't help but imagine everyone speaking like that. Harrison, the footballer-turned-accountant, is Grace's dream turned reality. I like that Harrison was a humble, honest, and protective person. He was down to earth, practical, where as Grace was a dreamer with big plans for her dilapidated mansion.
I love reading a book and having no idea what's going to happen. Well, I know it's going to end happy, you know boy meets girl, boy likes girl, boy gets girl. But beyond that I didn’t know how they could ‘Save Sycamore Bay’. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised by the plot twists.
I loved Harrison's sister, Moriah. She was such a lovable character I thought there HAS to be a story there. Sure enough the other characters in Harrison's family can be read about in Cancun Getaway. (You know that book is being added to my KindleUnlimited reading list!)
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. However, this review is voluntary and my honest opinion.
The only bad thing about this book? It was over way too soon.
I loved the characters - Grace is strong and independent, determined to restore her falling down mansion home by herself. And Harrison - former football player turned soft puppy. He was a sweet gentleman, there to help Grace but quickly falling in love with her. And they are so perfect together! Of course, there are some twists amd turns, unexpected bad guys. And if I had to pick a favorite character, I think it would be Harrison's sister, Moriah. Loud, outgoing, and absolutely adorable! Full southern charm. I loved her! And her son, Turk!!
I usually enjoy books by this author and find them a solid 4 stars. This one was, for me, 3.5 stars at best. The writing was good, as usual. The story started off with so much promise and made me giggle quite a lot. Then a strong Christian theme came out, which I felt didn’t sit that well and seemed forced. And the last third of the story felt very rushed, with a lack of character development or plot rationale. Was also disappointed that the story ended at the 70% mark, with the remaining 30% excerpts from other books.
A sweet romance with a powerful message. Saving Sycamore Bay is a story of love, sacrifice and hope. Grace and Harrison, make a great team. They come from different backgrounds, but are united by one goal. Bringing a building in need of restoration back to it's former glory and keeping it safe for future generations. In the process they discover the heart has no boundaries. Love's power is a limitless river that is ever growing and all encompassing.
So glad she changed the name, Saving Sycamore Bay is a lot better. I loved this sweet romance. It's practically love at first sight for Harrison and Grace. I love the ease of their relationship, it just seemed really natural. My only complaint is I wish there had been more about what happened next with Beau. I think this was a great ending to the Mansion series, I really enjoyed it.
Very enjoyable read that is well-written and flows easily. There are several interacial relationships in the story, but that just makes it better for me. Love doesn't see color. Now I have to read the author's next story to see what happens next in the extended family. I have truly found another favorite author!
Saving Sycamore Bay is a romance with a hint of mystery. Harrison is the brother of Moriah who appeared in Cancun Getaway. I have not read that book yet, but know that Cami Checketts writes only clean books and out of the 16+ books of hers I have read, there is only one I didn't give at least 4 stars, so I can go ahead and recommend that book as well. (Sorry for the horrible run-on sentence there!) Once I read it, I will be sure to post a review. . .
Harrison was a refreshing change from the typical football players in romance stories. He was confident, but not cocky, and he was a little bit insecure. Of course he was tall and dark and handsome, but that is a necessity, right? It was fun that he enjoyed accounting, though his real dream was to coach underprivileged kids.
Grace was a Southern Belle who had lost her mother years earlier and just lost her father. She was in danger of also losing the house she grew up in, and that she dreamed would be used as a home to adopted and foster children. I loved how vulnerable she was and how she was so enamored with Harrison, yet strong enough to want to do the right thing for herself and for him.
There was just the right mix of romance and mystery to the story.
I received this book for free from Destined for Love Romances in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I always enjoy Checketts stories. She writes with a light had that makes it easy to get lost in the story and use my own imagination to filling details with the setting and so forth. This one was no different. Harrison is such a good man. Strong and confident where it counts, he is just the man Grace needs to get through some troubled times. I loved how gallant and determined he was to keep her and her home safe.
Grace was sweet if a bit naive. Her greatest strength was also her greatest weakness--she cares deeply about people and sees the good in them even when the warning signs are there. Because of this, there was just enough suspense to add some extra depth to a sweet love story.
I give Saving Sycamore Bay a solid 4 and clean rating.
1-5 scale and what it means: 1: I couldn’t even finish it / just plain bad 2: I hope I didn’t pay for this / disappointing 3: I didn’t hate it, but it was still missing something / forgettable but inoffensive 3.5: On the line between good and ok / like, not love 4: Solid mind candy / worth reading 4.5: So very close to perfection! / must read 5: I could not put it down and I’m still thinking about it! / a true treasure
Movie Ratings in relation to my review: Clean--Hallmark movies, some kissing, no nudity, no sex on or off "screen" PG--Some innuendo but nothing kids don't hear every day, sex is all closed door PG-13--some language (swear words not related to sex), more talk about sex, heavy petting, removal of clothing on screen, but sex is closed door. R--swearing (can be related to sex), feels like the whole story is about the sex and not the relationship or some other plot
Grace is a southern belle in need of help. She lost her mother and father within a year of each other and she is trying to keep Sycamore Bay in the family. She doesn’t have the money needed to make the necessary repairs but she’s not willing to give up her dream. When Harrison shows up on her doorstep saying that he is there to help she isn’t sure what to think. She knows he was a star football player at Auburn and that he is amazingly attractive but he says he’s an accountant and this is just confusing. Harrison admires Grace’s pride and determination to make her dream come true at Sycamore Bay but when things take a turn for the worse at the mansion, he is more concerned about protecting her.
This is a really sweet romance. The characters in this book are well developed and very real. Harrison is a caring and protective in addition to being handsome and a great athlete. Grace is the quintessential southern belle- smart, sassy, compassionate, and determined. This story has some great secondary characters as well- Beau, uncle Mike, and aunt Geraldine for instance. There are twists and turns in the story that kept my interest. I truly enjoyed this book.
I received an ARC of this book and have voluntarily provided an honest review.
Harrison is a former football hero and now an accountant. Grace inherited Sycamore Bay, her family’s ancestral mansion. Well, I say inherited, but there are some stipulations. The maintenance of the mansion and the grounds is way too much for her to handle and there’s just not enough money. She feels very alone in the world. Something fishy seems to be going on and Harrison is sent to help Grace.
Harrison and Grace are so sweet together! I really liked them both. Harrison’s kind and caring but he’s definitely NOT to be messed with. And he’s VERY good-looking :). Grace is beautiful inside and out. She’s also strong and determined to keep the mansion, even though a lot of people are trying to push her into selling.
I absolutely LOVED this book! The story moved me; I had tears in my eyes more than once. It was heartwarming but also a little heartbreaking. Romance with a little suspense thrown in the mix. Wow! This author is now on my radar for sure! I also LOVED the cover; I had to smile every time I saw it :).
I received a complimentary copy of this book and voluntarily posted an honest review.
Harrison is a former college football star who now works as an accountant, whose boss asks him to help out the bereaved daughter of a friend save her family home. Grace had been left struggling after her fathers will left her either needed to marry, sell up, or struggle on her own two feet. This is a sweet romance that features different kinds of love the love for ones family, the love of friends, the love for ones past and obviously romantic love (also the love of football, boy does this town love its football!!). Grace is a good woman who wants to look after children and who obviously has not been too spoilt by wealth, and Harrison definitely does not live up to the football star stereotype, a brainless jock, but instead is thoughtful and intelligent, but still tough enough to deal with the lurking menace that is trying to control Grace's decision about her home. This book is a standalone novel but does feature characters from an earlier book. I may go back and read this book to find out more about Harrison's interesting family.
This story is set in the south and you can definitely feel the "southernism" in the dialogues of the characters. I also love the vision of a big southern mansion. That sounds so like "Gone with the Wind." That being said, I felt like the plot and the characters themselves were not fully developed. I was waiting for more clarity and then resolution at the end. However, I have more questions than answers when it was all said and done. I like that there was an epilogue. It's always nice to see how the characters are living after their "happily ever after" starts. But I was kind of hoping to know more about the whole plot of destroying Sycamore Bay and what ever happened to Beau. Did he finally sober up or is he as bad as his father was? And whatever happened to Harrison's old job and his boss? I just felt like there were so many characters and plots introduced in this book but was never fully resolved. It left me hanging and not the good kind.
Harrison has gotten his dream accountant job in Montgomery and on his first day is called into the boss's office. When Henry explains to him what he needs him to do, Harrison doesn't feel he has a choice. So he finds himself in Sycamore Bay helping the most beautiful woman he's ever seen paint, which is the one thing he doesn't do well at! Only someone or more, including her childhood friend Beau, keeps trying to scare her away and talking to her about selling, which she has no intention of ever doing! After a little over a week, Harrison takes her on a mini-vacation to meet his sister Moriah and her husband Jace and son Turk along with his mother and father. Thankfully Uncle Mike and Aunt Geraldine agree to spend the night at the house to hopefully keep it safe. What happens when they get back? Will her home still be standing? Will Uncle Mike and Aunt Geraldine be okay? Only one way to find out, read this great story by Cami Checketts!
I loved this book! It’s a quick, easy read, with a bit of mystery and some great romance. I really liked both main characters. Grace is determined and hard working. I admired her willingness to put in the work needed on her house. She’s a strong woman, but needed some help. I loved her reaction when Harrison showed up on her doorstep. Harrison is a complete gentleman! He is humble and kind, and does the little things like open doors. But he is such a guy! And says some very guy things. But his actions really told the story. He was really there for her. I appreciated the fact that their relationship wasn’t just about the physical (though the attraction was definitely there), but also built on the qualities and strengths they saw in each other.
I received a copy of the book, which I voluntarily reviewed. I have given my honest opinion.
This was one of the books in the Destined for Love: Mansions Series and is about a girl trying to save her families old plantation from ruin or destruction. Her parents are both dead and this is all she has of her heritage. The mansion is in bad need of repair and she won't get any funds to repair until her 30th birthday. Bad people are working against her for various reasons. A family friend sends Harrison, an accountant to help her. She was overcome because she loves football and he was the football hero at the college she attended. Many twists and surprises in this sweet romance. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
This is the final book in the Destined for Love: Mansions series. Each book is written by a different author. This story takes place in Alabama. Grace Addison now owns the mansion and she wants to restore the mansion so it can house foster care children. Unfortunately she does not have very much money to do the restoration. This story is full of problems and mysteries which keep you wanting to find out how they are solved. Throw in sexy Harrison Jackson who played football for Auburn and you have an interesting story you will want to read. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Drop your currently reading books again ladies...Cami is back at it again
Well the book came out and I dropped all of my other books to read this one. I devour this story also almost as fast as the last one. Cami does such a great job with her characters. Harrison and Grace are wonderful characters. I love how the story tied in with one of his brothers stories. I did not realize that the Alcatraz book was going to be linked with this book. Harrison and Grace fight against all odds to fall in love and have the family that they both want. I love the suspense in this book and the roommates!
If you love books about hunky athletes that meet a special someone and have amazing chemistry than you will love this book. College football star Harrison started his career but was given a different job by his boss to help his friends daughter Grace get her life put back together and figured out. He didn't know what he was getting himself into but the connection between the two of them from day one was undeniable. This was a sweet but suspense filled quick read and it kept me turning the pages.
I enjoyed this story tremendously! It's a cute one, with the southern miss Grace, who's fixing up her family home to be a haven for foster kids. Harrison is sent by her guardian to help her and keep her safe. She's secretly enamored of the former college football star, and they quickly form a sweet friendship that turns into romance. But first, he has to rescue her from an opportunist group of relatives and her supposed best friend. It's a fun, sometimes surprising story. I highly recommend this book.
Saving Sycamore Bay is the final book in the Destined for Love: Mansions series, written by multiple authors. Grace was struggling since her parents died and left her a small monthly amount to live on and use to maintain the house she lives in. The only way this would change is if she sells the house or gets married. When Harrison arrives, she thinks he is her hero. In reality, he is an accountant. Will they be able to save the house? Or will that be impossible? Will they find more? I really enjoyed this story. Definitely one to pick up!
This is a beautiful heartwarming romance of a damsel in distress and an ex collage football player to the rescue. Harrison put himself through accountancy college and got himself a good job with a according firm Goodman and Giles , he never expected to see himself doing painting and falling in love with a pretty southern girl.. beautiful story I couldn't put it down I read it in an afternoon. I'll be looking for more from this author.
This was a very good mystery/Love story. Who is trying to scare Grace into selling her dilapidated mansion and can Harrison who is sent to help and protect her, be able to find out? While Grace and Harrison are falling in love and a jealous friend of Graces tries to come between them, you will be surprised who is behind the mishaps. I received a complimentary copy and I am giving a review voluntarily.
This was my first book by Cami Checketts, but definitely won’t be my last! It’s a cute, heartwarming story with a touch of mystery. I loved both Harrison and Grace. I was surprised at the reveal as to who was behind the problems to get Grace to sell her house! This is a clean book but still manages to have some great chemistry! I can’t wait to read more of Cami’s books! I received an ARC of this book.
