A new series from USA Today Bestselling Fantasy Author Michael James Ploof.

Champions of the Dragon is now a USA Today Bestseller &  2017 Readers' Favorite Bronze Medal Winner in the Fiction - Fantasy - General genre!

Murland Kadabra has always dreamed of becoming a great wizard. However, at age 19, the young apprentice has yet to successfully cast a single spell. He has been reduced to grounds keeper of Abra Tower, and has become the laughing stock of the wizarding school. But when the Most High Wizard Kazimir chooses him to be one of the five Champions of the Dragon, Murland’s life changes forever.

He soon finds himself traveling through the wilds with four unlikely companions, including an alcoholic knight, a gay elf prince, a dwarf with humanism, and an obese ogre. Prophecy dictates that these champions must march west to the shadowy peak of Bad Mountain, where they are destined to do battle with the dreaded dragon of legend, Drak’Noir.

But what few people know, is that the prophecy is not altogether true. For it is not five champions who Kazimir chooses, but five fools. They are not meant to defeat the dragon, but to feed her.

To change their fate, the Champions of the Dragon must not only overcome their enemies, but also themselves.

Epic Fallacy is a satirical high-adventure romp through the Fantasy genre in the tradition of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series. Included in this bundle are books 1-3: Champions of the Dragon, Beyond the Wide Wall, and The Legend of Drak’Noir. This collection is 899 pages and 380,000 words.

I spent my youth in the land of make believe. School was a bore, and growing up in the "Boonies" without cable television forced me to use my imagination. If I wasn't holed up in my bedroom playing with my vast collection of action figures, I could be found in the forest with a wooden sword or staff in hand, battling the forces of evil. As an 80's kid, I was raised on a healthy diet of movies like Star Wars, The Neverending Story, Labyrinth, Goonies, and endless other classic (but strange) movies.

As a reader, I enjoy books that take off right out of the gate, sweep me off my feet, and whisk me away on an epic adventure. As an author, I try to create books that do the same for my readers. I write fantasy, and I suppose that I still live in a land of make believe, except now I get to share the adventure with others.

I hope that you will join me on my next adventure, and together we can escape reality, if only for a time.

Yours in Magic,

Michael James Ploof

Better than expected

Everyone thought they were fools. To get rid of them they sent them on a quest to the death. This time they chose the wrong people for the fools quest. With gained confidence, and becoming great friends, their potential shined in the story.

At first when I started reading the story I had to get over the names of the characters. They were a little funny and hard to take the story seriosly. After that I enjoyed the story. Just enough snarkiness to give some comedy to the story made the adventures funny and exciting. You really grow to like the characters and their friends.

A three book set of the Epic Fallacy series which is actually four books, so there is one missing. As far as story goes, it's a fairly humorous comedy where five people, one for each of the different races, once a generation, are chosen to become the Champions of the Dragon. They will go on an adventure to scare off the mighty Drak'Noir, and keep her from burning the world down. The book is filled with nods and winks and puns galore, and on occasion you can even hear someone play a rimshot somewhere in the distance. It's fantasy with a heavy dose of satire. The story does include a few lgbtq+ characters and for the most part MJP treats them respectfully, cisgender females don't always make out so well. The books on their own would have a higher individual rating, but since this is three volumes in one, big negatives on the indexing of this book. There is no way to skip to a particular chapter of the book or even to the cover or map of the world and then back again. The map of the world is housed at the back of the very back of the book, and once you look at it, you are synched to that as your furthest page. The map itself cannot be enlarged and is mostly unreadable. Would be nice if these issues were fixed in a later edition, one that would hopefully include the fourth book.

Great trilogy!

I enjoyed this one quite thoroughly indeed :-) I wasn't sure where all of the first book premises would lead and admit that I had my doubts at some point. It turns out to be a good classic fantasy story, with its epic quest and memorable heores. Great characters all in all, I especially enjoyed the work on their background and feelings along the way. I was maybe hoping for a bit more surprise along the way, but the author does deliver in the end. Were it not for a couple of points that left me hanging, I'd give it 5 stars (as in, why insist time and time again that they're fools on a fool errand but not make it part of the plot? And what's with the whoosh that's never explained in the end about our heroes quest?).

A good read nonetheless! I'm pretty sure I'll jump on volume 4 when I get a chance. I need closure with this Zuul character :D

What a fun story.

I am a huge fan of MJP and all of his Agora characters, so i knew i would be pleased with another tale from his magic pen. I waited for all three volumes of this adventure to come out so i could read them at once. What a wonderfully refeshing adventure it was. Old world fantasy meets modern day jokes and puns. These characters really had themselves one helluva adventure . Not your typical fantasy, but one you will enjoy reading. I look forward to more from our champions. Well done Mr. Ploof.

Definitely one for the 12-14 year old boys.
Typical DnD adventure, lots of encounters strung together. The plot does not make a lot of sense, but it is a typical hero’s story. The characters are interesting, if not completely consistent and the races are fun. It is written a a kind of smarmy wisecracking style (like Terry Pratchett, but no puns and not as good) the young teenage boys would find amusing, but too sexist and unaware for adults to tolerate. The themes and morals are wholesome.

Fabulous!

This is a wonderful quest with heroes to love. There are creative little puns throughout, and the insults and names are imaginative and so funny. The main characters have depth and sensitivity. The world he has built is described in amazing, beautiful imagry. I want to read more about these characters and their adventures. This is a definite winner.

plenty of fun

I laughed a lot at the puns and cleverness. The story was redemptive and interesting, with plenty of space for each character to grow. It was a nice combination of characters and backgrounds. I think many people reading this would feel some sort of kinship with at least one of the characters.

This is amazing! Mr. Ploof manages to write tightly, but with enough "space" around scenes to manage to avoid constricting density. He is both fantastical and contemporary, both humorous and dead serious. I'd say "five thumbs up!" but I don't recall a single character with five thumbs.

Good read

The book is filled with action and likable heroes. This trilogy can be read alone as it is a complete story but more is set to follow with at least one more villain to conquer. I look forward to the rest of the story.

Very fun read

Truly enjoyable tale. I laughed and cheered for the Champions! I liked the classic rock lyrics, Tolkien and other fantasy references. I also really enjoyed the transformation of "fools" to heroes. Great series!

Great Fun Books

I found this book very enjoyable to read. The adventures keep you wanting to find out what was to happen next. I even found some of the characters names to be humorous.

Take away the"trying to please everyone" and it's a fun read.

Tried,I think,to cover too many "bases" at once. A little anti climatic in the killing of the villains. Sometimes,it's okay to just let the bad guys be bad. Too much gray area in the story.

Bad name puns aside, a very good read

Plucky fools and interesting magix, a great quest and a happy ending. What more can you ask for, a sequel you say, so be it!

Not a triology

The title says it is a trilogy but a trilogy doesn't end with another book in the works like this one does.

Some good ideas, but the "humour" wasn't funny and mostly amounted to referential humour.

It had its ups and downs, but on the whole I enjoyed it well enough to buy its sequel. It does leave one issue unresolved which is dealt with in the sequel.

Once you get past the first couple of chapters and the story settles in you'll really enjoy this trilogy, I certainly did. It's not that the first chapters are badly written but that at first I thought they were more for a younger reader but as I said once the story settles in the read felt much better. I really enjoyed watching the characters grow and become the champions they were said to be. Great world building with interesting side characters. I look forward to continuing their adventures. off to buy the next book in the series.

Finally figure out why this style of book doesn’t work for me. The humor makes me roll my eyes and pulls me out of the story. I can never engage with the characters because I’m too busy being slightly irritated. Lots of people love this, not my style.
