The form of oral biography was completely new to me and I very much liked it. It creates an intimate portrait and ables you to get close to the person, especially when Sean himself is voicing his thoughts. What I got from this is that often he gets unfairly a lot of crap on him. The small stories here and there were hilarious, he's one of those who I wish I could know in person, just to see what they are really like.

Nestandardna (autorizirana) biografija. Napisana na temelju zilion intervjua koje je radio sa Penn-om i svim prijateljima i kolegama koji su kroz odredjene važne delove života bitni da nešto kažu ili pripovedaju o Sean-u kao glumca, režisera, oca, muža, sina....
Nemoguće je očekivati da će neki autor autorizirane biografije pisati o "junaku" u negativnom kontekstu, pa je takav slučaj i ovde. Dobra strana biografije je što se ne bavi s kim je Penn bio u krevetu, već je akcent na njegov profesionalni život kao glumac i režiser. Komentari od J.Nicholsona, W.Harelsona, R.W.Penn, W.Allen, D.Phillips, S.Sarandon, T.Robbins, su vredni za jasnije razumevanje njegovog alter ega u svetu glume i iza kamere i naravno da je prikazan kao jedinstven u tom svetu (što je slučaj u svakoj bografiji glumca ili muzičara).
Ako ste fan S.Penn-a ili cenite njegovu ulogu u svetu filma a želite da znate nešto više o Dead Man Walking, The Pledge, Mystic River, 21 Grams, o prijateljstvu sa Bukowskim....onda vredi. Biografija pokriva sve do 2004 :(

Iconoclast, controversat, obraznic, inteligent şi ,,cel mai bun actor al generaţiei sale”; toate aceste cuvinte au fost folosite pentru a-l descrie pe Sean Penn. Cu o carieră remarcabilă în artele dramatice, dublată de o viaţă personală tumultoasă, Sean Penn a demonstrat tuturor că arareori joacă după reguli impuse.

„Sper, cel puţin, ca această carte să aibă ceva de oferit cititorului, pe trei niveluri diferite: în primul rând, ca portret al unui artist şi ca trecere în revistă detaliată a unui portofoliu de opere permanent provocatoare şi duse la îndeplinire, chiar dacă nu se bucură întotdeauna de o largă apreciere sau deplină acceptare. Asik. Berkisah sejak masa kecil sampai ke era Penn menang oscar di Mystic River. Ada kisah jaman muda Penn ternyata akrab sama Cruise, suka jalan bareng naek motor ke bukit2 di California. Ada kisah Penn yg sangat pemarah jaman sama Madonna. Lalu kisah on-off nya Penn dengan Robin Wright. Semoga ada lanjutan era sejak 2004 sampai sekarang. Karakter Penn yg asik enak untuk diikutin.

Sean Penn is altijd een acteur geweest die ik waardeer, zeker door de keuzes van films die hij maakt, daarom werd het hoogtijd om deze geautoriseerde biografie te lezen. Het boek is interessant opgezet en vertelt over het leven van Sean Penn in de periode van 1960 t/m 2004, vertelt door familie, vrienden, collega's en natuurlijk hemzelf.
