Before she died Dahlia Clark had many titles.
Devil's Consort.

The Mother of the Devil's Progeny.

She never expected 'One of the Lord's Chosen' to be added to that list.
The ice prison took something vital from her. (No. Not her designer heels...)
Dahlia was torn from her daughter and her lover, Lucifer.
War between Heaven and Hell be damned.
She's going to get her life back and not even the Lord can stand in her way.

The Devil's Lullaby is the next installment in the Dahlia Clark series.

Was a little iffy with Uriah's appearance and the hint of a love triangle. Love triangles aren't usually my thing but I was hoping he'd step in and stop the wedding. Didn't trust Nova for a second thanks to Deadringer spoilers. Dahlia was still on a one track focus and Luiz was parent of the year.

Thank you again to the author, Michaela Haze, for sending me this copy for an honest review of the second instalment from The Devil’s Advocate trilogy!

After the first book, I NEEDED THIS ONE. And now I NEED the next one!!

The writing tho!! So much development from the first book. And the world building was fantastic, seamless and OMG DID I MENTION FANTASTIC???
2. I read 50% in one sitting?? I feel like not loads happened until about 30% of they way through and it was just really setting up for the rest which was SO EVENTFUL?? omgg the end!!!!

LIKE DAHLIA IS SO MUCH MORE KICK ASS. She’s so strong!! Luc makes her do everything though??? SHE DESERVES BETTER and I even feel sorry for her because of how badly she’s treated and I dunno why she’s treated so bad??? DAHLIAAAAAAAA. I just love her ok???

There were some new characters that were introduced (URIAHHH) and they were so snarky and sarcastic and dkjfngdfbhkgfd THEY ADDED SO MUCH HUMOUR AND GHBDLJFG. AND PETRAAAAAA. SO ADORABLE, SPEAK CHILD. PETRA. I WANT TO SEE MORE PETRA.

WE’VE GOT A TRIANGLE!!!!!! —> Literally making me realise again what a bad relationship they had before and that IT’S NOT A GOOD RELATIONSHIP and she deserves moreeeeeeee. Normally, I don’t really like love triangles, BUT I AM PRESENT FOR THIS ONE, OKAY???? I just!! want!! to!!! know!!

Luc:
He uses HER SO MUCH AND LITERALLY FOR SEX AND HE DOESN’T DO ANYTHING FOR HIMSELF, HE JUST GETS HER TO DO IT. And there’s like 0 communication there and JGSRNDKGDFNJKGRBH. And then he’ll just say something in order to make it seem like he’s trying, but IS HE REALLY??? AND LIKE THE OTHER GUY IS JUST DJFG BETTER FOR HER.
Omg hes getting way better??? Like?? is this an act???
OMG HES BETTER?? BUT STOP CALLING HER PET??? LIKE that’s my only quibble now?? BUT who do I ship with her more?? OMGS GJKSHBFNDBKFD *runs away to avoid questions*

THE END. THE END. OMGGG THE END!!!!!

OMG OMG OMG. 90% Onwards was literally so tense and when Ba’el DID THAT THING AND omg in the CAVE AND my God. THAT JUST CAME OUT OF NOWHERE AND DAMN. I was blown away. I was thinking, I have so little left of the book because nothing’s really happening now and then BOOM.

And then the Epilogue. . . oh my, I was scared that it was a duology for a second and then the Epilogue’s ending just. omg THE TRIANGLE LIVES. I need the answers!!

Thank you again to Michaela Haze for sending me this review copy (and sorry for my late review)!!

How explicit 2.5 / 5
Story 4.5 / 5
Overall: 4.5 / 5

The Devil’s Lullaby is the second book in ‘The Devil’s Advocate’ series by author Michaela Haze. This book is not a standalone story, so you will need to read The Devil’s Advocate first, before beginning this one. You should note that this is a three-book series and to be prepared for a big cliffhanger! The third in the series, The Devil’s Equal, is expected to be released on April 30th, 2018.

The Devil’s Lullaby is filled with drama, tension, lust, and angst. These emotions steadily increase with each chapter until I was unable to put my Kindle down. There were many twist and turns that kept me guessing what will happen next! An exciting second book and can’t wait for the third to find out what happens next!

A definite add to your TBR list!

Dahlia is much stronger in this book. She has been through hell, both figuratively and literally. After dying after giving birth, she was sent to the Frozen land by Luc in a last second attempt to save her life. This is where he himself was imprisoned after his fall, and he is unable to do more than send her there. He can't return to help in any way. All he has left is hope. In a move that no one could predict, the Guardian decides to keep her safe until she is finally found and brought to the Summerland. There she meets the Lord (and what a trip she is). She is awarded angel wings and given status as a favorite for her sacrifice for her child. But she is determined to return to her child, so she becomes a fallen angel. There is a lot going on in this book and we learn much more about heaven and hell, angels and demons. Going to immediately jump into book 3.

AAAHHH this book! I could squee to Hell and back with how much I enjoyed reading it.

If I thought that book 1 was much like the Lucifer comic books, this book takes a turn and becomes a lot more like the Lucifer TV series. It tones down on the sex and violence and gives us angel wings and magical artifacts. Since I love both, it was the icing on the cake for me. I honestly cannot wait for book 3!

I liked some of the character development and questions that were brought up the story, mainly those centered around Dahlia. She questions things more between her and Lucifer, but I didn't really connect with the writing. Full review to come!

description

❝ With my enemies surrounding me, dead on the floor. I was alone again. My chest heaved and the beast inside of me roared and revelled at the corpses. The proof of my strength. They could send as many of their winged weaklings as they wanted. Nothing can break the Queen of the First Circle. ❞

Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC of this book!

I want to start off by saying that I really enjoyed the development of Dahlia’s character in the book. I felt like she made a big leap in terms of humanity. She felt like she had more dimension to her and she had more emotions than before. She cared a lot for her daughter and about being a good mother. Of course, along with that came much self-doubt. It was refreshing to see Dahlia falter and question herself rather than being so arrogant.

Another factor I enjoyed in her development was that she questioned Lucifer’s actions more. She didn’t just blindly believe in his love or even thirst for it as before. Her priorities shifted a bit and I really enjoyed that rather than her blind devotion to him.

In Lucifer’s case, I enjoyed the fact that we got to see him lose his composure. He was really distant in the first book in emotional terms and in this book we were able to see a larger emotional range. He also treated Dahlia more like an equal. That was something I think we were all dying to see since the first book. I was very happy that he talked to her rather than deciding everything for her.

❝ “When has Lucifer ever made you the centre of his world? You deserve more than to beg for scraps of affection like a dog.” ❞

Unfortunately, despite all this character development I still had issues with the story and writing. One of the aspects I didn’t enjoy was the pacing. The story felt really slow for the most part. I also wasn’t too clear on what the direction of the story was. The plot took quite a while to reveal itself to the reader. I just wasn’t sure where we were going with things and it made the story feel confusing.

I also had the same issues with the romance as in the last book. I felt like the writing could be really elegant at times and then others it just became suddenly explicit. It felt inconsistent and kind of messy. It was like two completely different styles at times. I really wanted to have it either be one or the other.

Lastly, I didn’t enjoy the love triangle. I thought it didn’t develop naturally. The new love interest was adamant about hating Dahlia and she also hated him. But there were these really out of place moments when they would feel an intense attraction. It just didn’t work for me.

Overall, I think the character development was solid in the book, but the writing just didn’t work for me. I think for those that enjoyed the first book it would be worth it to continue and check this one out as you might still be able to enjoy it. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t for me.

Again as the first, it shocked me how much I enjoyed it. A few errors which could be sorted with another edit. But really enjoyed.
I'm just hopeful that the relationship developing will be the one she ends with.
