Ashes by Now is the ninth novel in the gritty Nick Sharman private eye series by author Mark Timlin. Emotionally drained after events in previous book Falls the Shadow, Nick finds himself shacked up with two exotic dancers Dawn and Tracey. Out of the blue Sharman is contacted by a tragic figure from his past Sailor Grant who wants to clear his name after being imprisoned for the murder of a young school girl Carol Harvey that he’s always denied committing. Initially Nick is reluctant to help but when he’s viciously attacked and left badly injured in hospital, he finds himself unable to escape dark events resurfacing from his past life as a police officer. Bringing the guilty party to justice takes Sharman on a rocky path that reveals corruption, greed, ambition and betrayal before ending in a typically violent resolution. Author Mark Timlin doesn’t disappoint as he delivers another hard-hitting crime novel in the impressive Nick Sharman series.
