Everyone jumped when Chief of Medicine Rafael Holden-Deane ordered them to. Everyone. He was back in Finley Creek to make the hospital the best it possibly could be. No matter what the cost.
ER Nurse Jillian Beck remembered Rafe from when they’d been children--his attitude now wasn’t any better than it had been then.
Especially where she was concerned.
Rafe was always angry at her for something...
Jillian understood anger, though. Ever since she had almost died, she had lived with her own fury. Her own questions. Her own fears.
Until she wasn’t sure she would ever be able to heal.
Rafe had his own history of hurt to overcome, and the last thing he needed in his life was the one woman who snuck into his dreams at night.
When she and the hospital they both love are threatened, there isn’t anything he won’t do to keep her safe...
Calle Jaye is fun, playful, ironic, professional and sophisticated. She’s super-educated in the field of fiction and would spend most of her time walking around in “Book World” (or”eBook World”).
Does she have slight control freak tendencies? Yep. Why else would she chose to self-publish?
In her day job she gets to read romance novels. In her night job she gets to write them!
Her favorite color is bold purple. She likes rock like Kid Rock, Shinedown, and Nickelback. Add in a bit of Anastacia and Adelle, too.
She collects rocks. Watches crime dramas. Abhors Lifetime Movies and Titanic (especially Leo…) and refuses to read or write about sparkly teen vampires.
She’s married to a cop she strongly suspects is a vampire. They’ve made vampire babies, too.
They live in Indiana with their vampire relatives and their vampire dogs.
I adore this series and the PAVAD series. I've complained in previous reviews of being irritated by the really high frequency of introspective questions by all the characters in these books. It was distracting to me and a bit annoying. I'm happy to say that this book did not have that issue and while not perfect, the editing was miles better. Even the overuse of italic emphasis ( in my opinion) was less than usual. The storyline was great, and I was happy to see this couple get together after all their sniping at each other. The story had plenty of action and suspense and spicy romance plus all my favorite characters. I'm excited by the announcement at the end that Ari gets the next story, but I was unhappy to read that this is only a trilogy and it will be the last. I want stories for Allen and Fin and Virat and Annie...The list goes on.
Wounds That Won't Heal (Finley Creek #5) by Calle J. Brookes Another well written and entertaining story in the Finley Creek universe. This is not a stand alone book. Most of the previous book's characters make an appearance and are integral to the plot. I did get a bit annoyed as some of the story line overlaps with the previous book only this time we see the same situations from a different character's viewpoint. I am a fan of Calle J Brookes' writing and in the past have complained about the proof reading and editing issues, there were some in this book as well. A Nice Read. 3 and half stars.
I just love this series by Calle! It is masterfully done and has everything you want, romance, action, suspense and intermingling of families:) Jillian and Rafe have been at each other's throats since they met. But after some time and more understanding towards Jillian and why she is the way she is, the move to tolerating each other for their families sake. Eventually Jillian is endangered and Rafe makes a decision to protect her and fix the problems at Finley Creek General!
Fantastic read, looking forward to Marcus and Ari's story next! Also more of the Masterson County series:)
Rafe and Jillian Rock the pages. Rafe is a really unique man with a huge cactus style heart. Jill and Ari who is his sister have found a way inside and he does not like it one bit. Oh how the mighty fall. The hospital mystery of the story is very good. I cannot wait to see how it all plays out in the end.
This was an exciting book from start to finish. The way the stories overlap, but show from THIS book's main characters is a great way to feel as if you are truly involved with the life, love and mysteries of these families. The emotion, good and bad, is done so well you can just feel it as you read about the trials of Rafe and Jillian. I look forward to the third book of this trilogy.
Another great addition to the series. I really liked Rafe and Jillian as a couple and individually. Their relationship seemed genuine. Some of the corruption at The hospital has been cleaned up but the head of the drug ri g has not yet been exposed, maybe in the next book.
My favorite in the series so far.....Rafe and Jillian got off on the wrong foot but when they start working together and getting too know one another things start to heat up. This couple really has chemistry, they brought tears too my eyes, definitely a five star read.
What a great addition to the Finley Creek series! I enjoyed the snarky sassy back and forth between our main characters. The suspense of the storyline and the action keep the story moving and the reader fully immersed in the plot. Brookes is a master of building the novel with multiple POV. I highly recommend!
It's been a traumatic and painful time for Jillian. Just too much has happened in too short a span. Attempted murder several times family members almost killed. Sisters getting married far too quickly. Then she meets HIM.
This is my first book by this authoress. I LOVED it. I’ve already brought or noted the rest of this series. I have referred her to the rest of my “senior sisters” that read a lot.It kept my attention all the way through. Thanks for writing it and keeping us VIRUES PEOPLE entertained.
This series is addictive!! Calle J. Brookes has a great series on her hands. The characters are memorable (some good, some bad) but the plotting of each story is the best ever. I can hardly wait to start the next one!!
This is another amazing story of the Beck sisters and friends. How much can one family suffer? A great read full of tears, scares, laughter but most of all love. A must read. I can't wait to start the next book.
Rafe and Jilly perfect for each other as always! I love 💕 Calle J Brookes books 📚, because they always have a little murder and mayhem, then romance thrown in!!!
This book was so good. There is so much suspense, kept me on the edge several times to see how it was going to end up. There is passion too, but lots of intrigue. Highly recommend.
Just wow! I love enemies to lovers and the sparks and fire between these two is off the charts! Her books are full of amazing storylines and characters so awesome they don't need all the s*x scenes.
Jillian Beck is a nurse and as is the case with the Beck family trouble seems to follow them everywhere. Can she overcome her struggles and let love in or will the bad gays win.
Rafael Holden-Deane has met his match and sparring partner in Jillian Beck. Rafael in the Chief of Medicine and Jillian is an ER nurse and neither is looking for a relationship. Fireworks fly between them from the get go. There passion starts as anger and it is intense. Jillian is a bit afraid of him due to her past but she does stand up to him especially when he mean to his half sister and one of her best friends, Ari.
Rafe has seen his share of death in Africa and has hardened his heart. He can't bring himself to care about any but his two brothers because caring about others is too painful when you lose them. Loss has hardened him and made him grouchy and mean. Most people are afraid of him and do his bidding or get out of the way. He doesn't want to know his half sister Ari or the rest of his biological siblings, some of whom are tied to Jillian Beck and her family.
Rafe is hired to straighten out the hospital and a mystery of sort ensues and Jillian is caught up in it. When things come to a head and Jillian is hurt one too many times for his piece of mind he begins to realize that Jillian has gotten to him like no other and vice versa. They both have come from places of anger and have built walls around their hearts.
This story was good and I liked that there was a change in Rafe, that their was another side to him besides one that seemed to be a heartless bastard. There were a few typos in the book that should have been picked up by the editors but all in all this was a great story and one that I couldn't put down. I waited to read it on the weekend when I knew I could finish it in a day because that they way it has been with the other stories in The Finley Creek Book Series.
I can't wait to find out about Ari and Marcus next.
He'd been infuriated that someone would drag up something he'd rather forget all he needed was his two brothers. Jillian couldn't believe he was now the new COM and she would have to work with him. All their lives had been changed by tramatic situations and now they all wanted to help each other and more importantly others. Rafe had been stunned when that red headed banshee shoved him into a darn pool and now he would make her pay. If it was one thing then was another and here they were running for their lives. When Rafe's cousin Chance explained that a particular house was available for rent the only draw back was it was next door to Jillian's dad. But wow what a house he could be comfortable here even with that red headed banshee near by. She tried to explain some of the truths about his biological siblings and wow they'd taken the steps they had and what there ultimate goals were. Rafe had been the one to find her unconscious he made sure she was rushed to the emergency room. Then after the busy night they'd had he even made sure Jillian got home safe and sound and even carried her inside. It had to be the Chinese yeah That's it. Somehow the two of them ended up on his bed and boyo he was going to rock this red headed banshee's world. Rafe had to find her and nothing and no one would stop him. He wasn't about to let them die unlike what he'd witnessed in the past no he would do anything to save them even if it meant....
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I love all the characters and how they interact. I have read nearly all the PAVAD series and Finley Creek novels not to mention the Masterson County books and have not been disappointed. Good reads.
