For the next week, Stella doesn’t come to school and Adrian is unable to find her. When he goes to her house, her mother merely tells him that she has mono and warns him to be away from her. Stella is also confused about what to do. We find that she too is a vampire, and knows that she cannot be with a human who will eventually die. She is also worried that if Adrian finds out her secret, he will never love her. Driven mad by misery and desperation, Adrian goes to the woods to feed, and hears some suspicious animalistic sounds. When he goes to investigate, he finds that it is Stella. He gets shocked out of his mind, and they both realize each other’s secret. They laugh and make love right there in the woods and begin a happy relationship. Everything is going fine, they identify some differences in their lifestyle but everything otherwise is perfect. They want their parents to meet one another, and plan for a dinner at Stella’s house. During the dinner however, their parents seem a little tense and behave strangely. Once they go back home, Adrian’s father forbids him from seeing Stella anymore, and doesn’t give him any reason.
