descriptionI like the cover on this one. It's simple but eye-catching. Has good composition and title work.description

descriptionI really enjoyed this one. One of the things I love about this author is just how very British her books sound. Now I know what you are thinking "Duh Eve that is because she IS British" and I know that, but there just seems to be something a little extra with this author. I can literally hear the accents as I read.

description

Ok, now that I am done blathering like an idiot about accents I will move on to the actual review. As always this author's writing remains top notch. Be it under her romance name (Lucy Wild) or this new pen name I know I am guaranteed to get a well written story. The pace of this one was fairly good. It did take me a bit to get into it, but once it hit its stride, I found myself unable to set it aside. I wouldn't say there were a lot of twists and turns. We know right from the start who the baddie is, but the author did a good job of keeping things interesting despite that.

There is a touch of romance that as a romance reader I felt could have been fleshed out more. That said this isn't a romance book, so I wasn't too bothered by it either. The characters were plenty, and all of them added extra layers that enhanced the overall plot well. The only thing I didn't love was the ending. I felt it was wrapped up maybe a tad too quickly and easily after all that build up. But even with that issue I still ended up enjoying this one, and it's getting a thumbs up from yours truly.description

I read this as an ARC for an honest review. I always enjoy romance books by this author written under Lucy Wild and this was no different.
Martha is a survivor of sexual and mental abuse. Having been abused in a group home by a staff member, Samuel, wasn't the worst part. He claimed that he had to sacrifice the group of girls he abused by setting fire to the building they were in. Samuel successfully killed three of the girls and scarred the two that were saved before dying in the fire.
As the 10 year anniversary approaches Martha is working at Helmsley Castle and trying to get over her fears. She meets Ben, the owner Peter's son. Just as she is getting comfortable she finds a terrifying symbol of her past tormentor. Could Samuel have survived?!
This was a good thriller. And I am definently looking forward to the next book!!

Ten years ago she was attacked by a serial killer. Supposedly he died in a fire which also killed 3 of her friends. She was 12 years old at the time. She is still trying to come to understand why she was saved and her friends were not.

Only two people know where she is ... and one of them has just been killed. She has found a chess piece on the property where she works... the killer's trademark. Did he survive the fire after all? Has he found her?

She's met her boss' son, a man she could come to love, if only she dared. And what will the Gamesman do ... he still believes she belongs to him.

The Gamesman needs to finish the game he started .... Checkmate?

This is a well written thriller, tightly winding suspense in a cocoon of absolute terror. The more I read, the faster I read .... getting to the end that left me breathless. Amid a raging storm outside, all players are in the same place .... and not everyone survives.

Many thanks to the author who provided a digital copy of this thriller. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

4.5 ✨✨✨

This was the perfect suspenseful read. The flow of the story really good and the story telling even better. I'm not one who reads a lot of this genre but, I think I need to start to read it more.

10 years after Martha was tragically assaulted by a psychopath she thought was dead she gets a message that turns her already fragile world upside down again.

Wow! This was a good book! I put off reading the last 25% as it was late and I didn't want nightmares!
A good story. Not too graphic. But lots of edge of seat moments.
I got a bit confused a couple of times and there were a couple far fetched bits, but I still thought that it was good.

There are so many layers of twisted going on all at once in this book. It instantly became a guilty addiction that I wasn't setting down until I'd finished. Having read A Girl to Die For before reading this, I had no idea if I should be expecting a happy ending or not. But that didn't keep me from desperately hoping that good would win in the end and that hope had me frantically turning pages, anxious to see how it would all turn out. The depths of Samuel's depravity are mind boggling. I don't know whether to be in awe of or frightened by an author who can take us there and make it feel real.

I lover reading Missing Piece!!! I loved how the story was told from all the characters not just the two main characters. What happened to Martha when she was younger was awful and she grew up thinking the guy was dead but he wasn't. When he hunts her down she doesn't realize its him until its too late. Can Ben and Timothy save Martha and Jenny or does Martha save herself? You will have to read this book to find out and you will not be disappointed. I will recommend this story to all my friends.

This was an intriguing psychological story, with enough content and diversity to make it an interesting read. While the events flowed effortlessly throughout, I would personally like to have seen more interaction between The Gamesman and Martha towards the end, probably something a bit more dramatic; nevertheless, nothing detracted from my overall enjoyment of the book.

Five young girls had been suffering abuse at the hands of The Gamesman at Beeches Care Home for quite some time; the owner, Tim, was totally unware of what was going on until there was a confrontation. As a consequence, The Gamesman sets fire to the care home, trapping the five girls in a room; it is only Tim’s quick thinking that saves the lives of two of the girls, Martha and Lisa. Martha is besides herself with the deaths of her friends, particularly since she had taken most of the brunt of the abuse from The Gamesman in order to protect them. It is automatically assumed that The Gamesman died in the fire too, but this is not clear. Now 10-years later the comet is coming and The Gamesman has an offering to make. Time is running out and he has no idea where to find Martha, but he is adamant Lisa knows, and she will tell him. During all this time Tim has been keeping watch over Martha and Lisa, but the one time Lisa doesn’t keep her promise to ring him, Tim immediately knows something is wrong. Meanwhile, Martha has made a life for herself at Helmsley Castle and is gradually conquering her past fears. When the owner of the Castle, Peter, has a serious car accident, Martha calls his son Ben to inform him, not realising he has had a fall out with his family following the death of his sister, Zoe. With some persuasion, Martha is able to get Ben to make a visit and during their time together they form a bond, until one “out of the blue” comment sends Martha screaming, taking her back to her childhood. With Peter’s ex-wife and Alex trying to get Peter to sell the Castle, Ben is convinced Alex is the one stalking Martha; Alex had always been a bully to Ben when they were younger, so how can it be anyone else. As the time of the comet approaches, The Gamesman is already at Helmsley Castle biding his time, leaving cryptic mementoes for Martha to find. Tim, meanwhile, takes his grand-daughter, Jenny, on a visit to the Castle, taking the opportunity to tell Ben he needs to look out for Martha; Tim not realising that The Gamesman has his sights set on Jenny too. Will The Gamesman succeed in his dastardly plan, or can Martha finally be free of him and have the life she finally deserves? A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.

I like discovering new authors, so when Emma Snow contacted me directly to as if I’d be interested in reading MISSING PIECE, her first full-length suspense novel, I agreed. I typically don’t gravitate toward pure suspense, typically preferring the jump scare and action of thrillers or the hefty romance component of romantic suspense, so MISSING PIECE was a bit of an unusual read for me despite technically falling within my literary wheelhouse. Without wasting time describing the plot (that's what back cover copy is for) or spoiling the details, MISSING PIECE reads like a Hitchcock film: for the readers (and much less so for the characters), it’s not so much about the villain or even the denouement, but rather about the journey and how all the pieces fit together for the characters at the end. Ms. Snow does a great job setting the scene from page one and ratcheting up the tension with every passing page whilst giving readers glimpses of the different psyches of the many characters that play a role in The Gamesman’s twisted game. The quintessential Britishness of Ms. Snow’s writing--which, thankfully, the editorial team did not tweak to make it more broadly appealing to North American audiences-- adds an additional layer of authenticity to a story set in the UK (the perfect setting for this kind of novel). My only major gripe is that the final showdown with The Gamesman was… underwhelming; I don’t need a team of SAS operatives bursting into the scene, but it would’ve been more rewarding to have a more extensive scene given that the entire book was building up to it. Overall, MISSING PIECE was an enjoyable suspenseful read that can easily be read in a single afternoon.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. previous books that I have read by Lucy Wild have been romance stories with plenty of passion and I really enjoyed them. When I saw her name again, I admit I didn't read the blurb as I felt confident that whatever the story was about, I would enjoy it. It is an amazing story but not really a romance at all. Instead, it is a psychological thriller with plenty of suspense, an evil character that was thought dead hovering in the shadows, a young woman who is being threatened and stalked so that she is terrified and the way Lucy builds up her story and the precise wording involved helps build up the sheer terror felt by young Martha, her anguish that the authorities seem to be ignoring her and the relief that Ben, her employer's son, believes her and is there for her. Tim who was the owner of the care home where Martha had lived, is also there to keep an eye over her as he doesn't believe that the Gamesman is dead and he he has been keeping watch over her throughout the years. As the story unfolds, we discover more secrets from our main characters and these, again, help builds up the tension. I found this book extremely well written and it illustrates that Lucy Wild is an author who can span the different genres with ease and style. This is a must have read for Lucy Wild fans and, I think, to all those readers out there who love a Who Done It and murder/mysteries. I do love puzzles and murder mysteries as well as romance so this was a perfect book for me. If anyone does not like reading romances but does enjoy a great suspenseful mystery, then this is the book for you. A Must Have Read.
DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This book took me by surprise. I was expecting the usual Lucy Wild story. The one with dark characters and steamy sex. No steamy sex scenes in this book! But I was not disappointed.
Samuel is on the verge of completing his tasks. He just needs to find the missing piece which will help him be the hero he was meant to be.
For years, Timothy has wondered if there was more he could have done to help. Despite being a hero, the only salvation for his guilt was to watch over them.
Martha enjoys running the castle. It's what she's always wanted to do. It helps her forget about her past. But she doesn't realize that someone from her past is dangerously close.
Ben enjoys his isolation. The last thing he expected was to be back home confronting his father. He wants to leave but feels drawn to the mysterious woman who called him home.

I love how the stories of all these characters are interwoven. There's no surprise about the plot but there is the anticpation that all will end well.

Four stars because I was expecting more dialogue between Martha and Samuel at the end. I wanted to know more of what Martha was thinking when she saw him.

Again, not what I was expecting from the author. But it was definitely a page turner.

It isn't the creatures that go bump in the night that scare me, it's the living, breathing human "monsters" that get me every time and this one certainly got me. The chills start early in Missing Piece and continue to build as the story progresses to the heart-racing conclusion. The suspense here isn't about who the killer is, although there is some mystery surrounding a couple of characters, but it's more about what this madman will do next to claim his prize. Our villain is a master at striking fear in his victims as he goes about his quite single-minded quest letting nothing and no one stand in his way. The fact that Martha is living her life, carrying out her day to day, never knowing when or where her worst fear will strike lent an added layer to the creep factor that is prevalent throughout this tale. The only drawback was the final scene with The Gamesman felt a bit rushed. The build-up for the scene was gripping and exactly what I expect from a good thriller, but the conclusion was almost too easy, especially when you consider everything he's done to achieve his goal. Other than that small blip, I thoroughly enjoyed this one and would easily recommend it. We even get some romance between Martha and the troubled Ben.

4.5 star suspenseful must read…

Ok the first thing that drew me to this menacing thriller was the title…Missing Piece…it sounded intriguing and a puzzle to be solved …and so I embarked on this journey with Martha, who frankly deserves a medal and a happy ever after for all the really terrible things she has had to survive in her relatively short life, as she tries to continue to rebuild her life and finds herself in danger once again…

The author creates an atmosphere of disquiet and uncertainty….. from the very first chapter there is an ominous certainty that Martha’s past has caught up with her ….…The premise is original and it was interesting to be given a window, through the narrative, into the mind of Martha’s nemesis with his twisted obsession…but there is more to this convoluted plot which contains a number of fascinating and damaged characters and more than one potential victim and perpetrator…

This is a skilfully written gripping tale which kept me guessing until the end….this was a 4.5 star suspenseful must read…I was given a copy of this book as an ARC by the author.

I given this book for an honest review.
This was my first suspense novel, and I liked it.
At first I was completely confused with the first chapter. I had no idea what was happening who I was reading about, it made sense a couple more pages in.
I don't normally like 3rd person stories, but for this story I completely understand why it was needed and believe me it was needed. You get to see every persons point of view and exactly how they feel about certain situations.

For my first suspense novel I enjoyed it a lot. It kept me on the edge of my seat. If you are expecting a complete romance between Ben and Martha you'll be disappointed here, this is more about Samuel trying to finish his game and if Martha can escape him.
Don't get me wrong Ben and Martha have their chemistry, the book for me never really went into depth of how much they liked each other etc. The ending was sort of a bummer it seem like it was wrapped up to quickly nothing was told into depth as most of the story was written.

Overall a great book. I enjoyed it.
Because of Missing Piece I would read more suspense novels. ❤❤❤

First I would like to thank Emma Snow for the chance to review this book in exchange for an honest review.

The blub of this book was intriguing and very much a genre I like to read.

the plot - 10 years ago 5 young girls had been suffering abuse at the hands of The Gamesman in a carehome for children, when the truth comes out the Gamesman sets fire to the care home trapping the five girls in one room. The owner Tim saves the lives of 2 of the girls. The story follows Martha; one of the saved girls, who had taken most of the abuse from The Gamesman in order to protect her friends. In the present day Martha is an adult working at a castle in a remote part of the UK. However, when Lisa; the other survivor dies in suspicious circumstances Tim knows something is wrong, the Gamesman didn't die in the fire as initially thought. He immediately goes in search of Martha to try to save her from Lisa's fate. I won't go to much more into the plot as I don't want to spoil it but what I will say is it may be a little slow to start but its well worth the read the final 1/3 is truly captivating and you will just want to keep reading to see what happens next.

Missing Piece was a great book. The story follows the life of Martha, Timothy,Ben and Sam. When Martha was a young girl, she and her friends were taken advantage of and tortured. Two girls didn't make it out alive. Martha and one other girl made it out alive, but not unscarred. Timothy is the older gentleman who realized what was happening, but he realized it a little too late and couldn't save all of the girls.
Martha moved away and changed her name so she could feel save. When her sanctuary starts feeling unsafe, she decides it is time to move on. Even though she has found a new interest in Ben, she has to move on.
Sam is a sick man who believes he had to make a sacrifice to his God before time runs out. It didn't work, because he didn't complete it the last time, so he is going to try again. When he finally finds Martha again, he sets his plan in motion. Will he succeed this time or will Ben be able to save Martha? Will Sam be content with only sacrificing Martha or will he involve another innocent victim? Will Martha be able to save herself? What are the pieces that are missing and will they be found in time?

This is an intense, suspenseful and gripping story. The storyline and characters weave a spellbinding tale of horror, survival, love and heartbreak. Martha lives her life in hiding because she was traumatized as a child. Ben lives in seclusion because of the guilt he carries for the death of his sister. When Martha's boss is seriously injured in a car accident, she calls his son estranged son, Ben. Soon Ben is questioning what he wants from life. Reconnecting with his father, being attracted to Martha, and finding out she may be in danger and dealing with his mother make him want to join life again. Martha wants to have a relationship with Ben, but her past interferes. Then there's the man who saved Martha and Lisa from the mad man, who is obsessed with making sure they are safe. No one knows who they can trust, who they can believe or what to believe. This is a thrilling story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It should be placed at the top of your TBR list.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.

This was a dark and twisted read. 10 years ago a man (named the "The Gamesman") tortured 5 girls while waiting to sacrifice them for a comet. Two of the girls survived the fire to cover up his crimes. Now 10 years later another comet is supposed to occur. The Gamesman starts on his mission to find the one girl he wanted to originally sacrifice. Can one main save her again, can the police find the "missing piece" to save Martha?

There are a many side stories spiraling around the Martha, so you have to pay attention or you might get lost. Timothy is the man that saved her, Peter is her boss and is the man that feels beholden to her, Ben is the man that is falling in love with her and Samuel is the man that wants to sacrifice her. Can any of them save her before it is too late? There are many themes, intrigue, anger, regret, jealously, compassion, revenge. It was interesting to see how the clues were revealed. It was a good story.

I loved this book from Emma Snow. This is a story where everyone is so intertwined and yet it makes so much sense. When Martha was younger she survived a truly traumatic when she was in a care home. Now 10 years later and that horror is closing in on her again when the darkness from the past is still coming for her. Along the way we meet some people who will be huge in her life in ways she wouldn't have imagined. When she calls her employer's son after an accident and he comes home she will find herself feeling normal feelings for the first time in forever. Ben comes home to try and heal the bridge between him and his father and ends up finding the woman he is willing to do anything to keep safe, including saving her from the madman closing in on her. I received an ARC for Missing Piece and as this was my first Emma Snow book, I was unsure what to expect.

This is a tense thriller and focuses on Martha, who was abused as a child in a care home 10 years before. She has moved on from her past as the perpetrator, known as The Gamesman, burned to death in the fire he set when the net closed in on him.

There are strange happenings and Martha gets clues which suggest that The Gamesman is alive after all and has his sights set on her once more.

The pace is spot on, with good build up of tension and different threads weaving together to the conclusion. The supporting characters have been well-crafted to keep the reader's interest and the story builds to a dramatic climax which had me on the edge of my seat!

I would definitely recommend this book to others and I intend to read Emma Snow's other works.

Now ten years later "The Gamesman" intends to find and sacrifice the girl he really wanted to sacrifice originally. Can Martha be kept safe? There are several men that are involved with Martha on one level or another. There's Timothy, the man who saved her. Then Peter, her boss who feels that he is beholden to her. Then there's Ben, the man that is falling in love with her. Of course last but not least there is Samuel the man who wants to sacrifice her. *I was gifted this ARC from the author and freely give my review*

I enjoyed this thriller, the romance part of it was a little weak but other than that it was good.
In the beginning I had a little trouble getting in to the story but when I got through that it was hard to leave the book alone for a minute.

You know all along who the bad guy so there was not so many surprise. Even if I knew I felt a little angst for what he was going to do next.........

The characters are a little weak in the descriptions but I they had their little quirks which I liked. There is not much unnecessary descriptions of surroundings and a good amount of dialogues so good book in my opinion.

If this had been a unknown bad guy and the romance bit had been more filled up I would have given it all the stars, but it's a good 4 star read.

Ps. I love the cover ❤️

***I voluntarily read this ARC to give an honest review***A great read. A delusional pedophile, Samuel Lyons, works for homes for orphan children. The last care home he worked for was owned by Timothy Burleigh who didn't do the hiring. But when he became aware of Lyons he went to the care home to confront him. While there he heard the horrible things he was doing to the girls. This is when Lyons sets the place on fire and Burleigh is seriously burned trying to save the girls he could only get two out, Martha and Lisa. Lyons was supposed to have died in the fire but he didn't and he was intent on finishing what he started which was to sacrifice Martha to the Gods that lived in a comet that is visible every ten years. It's now ten years since the fire, he's back!

I love a good thriller and this one did not disappoint.
This is about a psychopath who was in a children's home and abused 5 girls. He felt that he needed to meet his destiny and he started a fire. It was though that he and three of the girls died in the fire. Two survived.
Ten years later one of those girls suffers again and Martha, the main focus of the Gamesman (psychopath) is given a clue that he did not die in the fire.
As this thriller plays out you will drawn into the story both the one told by the authors and by Martha.
This book will keep you on your toes for the duration.
I was given this book for an honest voluntary review.

Suspenseful ....

This story has me gripping my seat till the end. A very very interesting read - more with suspense than romance. All the characters here contributed to the whole story/plot that has its twist and turns. You will experience a lot of combined emotions here till you reach the very end. And speaking of ending, i wished there should be more but I guess that is what it is - a quick one despite the fact that the author wrote and build all the suspense and mystery in it. This is really recommended for those mystery and suspense readers out there. Read it, you won't regret it !

This is the second thriller book I have read by Emma Snow. Not being a typical thriller reader, she has a way with her words in her books that captures the attention of the reader. Her writing is absolutely flawless.

Missing piece will definitely put you on edge and biting your nails to find out what is going to happen or not happen next. I loved how this story gave us some romance. Would I have liked more romance? Definitely. Which is why that makes this a must read! It will leave you wanting more.

What a thriller of a book this turned out to be!
Although some content may offend.
Crazy man Samuel Lyons was on the look out for the perfect human sacrifice, convinced by his mother if he does he will become a god himself. Norman Bates has nothing on this man.
Young Martha and her friends unfortunately become his obsession and his victims. After a tragic fire everyone thinks it's over and Samuel is dead. With only two survivers left years later are they still safe?
Absolute must read. Well written.
