BFC, IRS, BDSM - These are some of the acronyms that you will see me running over the hills and far away but thanks to my bookish resolutions for the year + seeing a couple of friends who 3/4/5 starred this book, motivated me to finally pick it up. The most important fact, this lady wrote Djara.

Right from the start, there was this special spark to the story and just from reading the first few pages I knew this book was going to be a winner. The writing was smart, the banter was witty and had me giggling like a harlot, and the chemistry was off the charts amazing. One of my favorite for sure. Kat Evans is now on my all-time favorite author list, the two books of hers that I have read were high quality, witty, thought-provoking, and absolutely out-of-the-box.

This book. Damn! So flipping hot. The leads kept me squirming in my seat as I got lost in the pages of this story. The leads, the thriller - I was hooked and just could not stop myself from reading this cover to cover without stopping. I loved that AJ was not an in your face lead. The way she held herself, the way Jillian took note of her, I loved how subtle it was. I loved how Evans shaped these characters that nothing was forced, she brought these characters to life with her mesmerizing words.

Now AJ was not the nicest of leads but that just made her more lovable, right ladies? The sexy times.... just toss out those panties now. They will be ruined. From the intense dominance she handled Jillian, to the way she just looked at her like she wanted to pound into her until she is completely broken. I.was. gone. But this was not just about the erotic moments.

I don’t think I have EVER fallen for a character in less than one page and honestly didn’t expect that to happen here but it did. I also didn't mind the BDSM aspect of this book. I think I have finally worked out why I've always disliked BDSM in my book smut, and it's because all the male doms are always so dark and tortured (yes I am talking about you, Christian Grey). It was refreshing to see a healthy Domme be a Domme just because she simply enjoys it, thus no mind games, no push/pull, no mummy issues.

Now for the thriller element, The darkness and pain that the unsub experienced at the hands of a psychopath are beyond anything I can describe. I consider myself to be pretty used to dark reads, but even I found myself cringing at those parts. The abuse was incredibly difficult and disturbing to read. But it helps paint a very vivid picture of how it affects her/him/them and forms her/him/them into the person that she/he/they is now.

So much love, why only 4⅝? Read the book, you might just agree with me that as hot as that scene was, where it took place...just gave me and maybe you the shiver me timbers.

Highly Recommended.

Dark, twisted, sexy and yet heartbreaking.

If I had to sum up this book only using a few words those would be it. Something out of the ordinary happened while reading this. By the end of the book I found myself rooting a little for the killer while wanting to break my foot up AJ's ass!

First thing's first, read this for the fantastic mystery and crime novel it is. To be fair I predicted 'who' the killer would be but it didn't distract one moment from the page turner this book is. The suspense had me on the edge of my seat several times and yet... there was very little angst in the book. Yes, that's possible!

However don't get your hopes up for the romance aspect. The emphasis is mainly on sex and in particular the BDSM aspects of it. Though there is a tiny bit of romance that comes into play, this is ruined by AJ's behavior. I got fuming mad at something she did that caused Jillian to use her safeword earlier in the book, only for her to do it again. It made me want to give this book a low rating.

Oddly enough the saving grace of this book was the (back)story of the killer and their motive. It's what got me choked up and had me sympathizing with this person. Seriously when does that happen?!

The book did have one or two hiccups. Jillian initially came off as very tough but became almost docile immediately after meeting AJ. That transition was a little too jarring. AJ was introduced as being large and in charge yet when facing off with her mother she tucks her tail. Why is her mother even in this story?

This is the type of book that will not leave you once you read it. It's dark and painful to read at times but good luck putting it down! Overall 4,5* rating.

This was a great murder mystery but I wasn't overly enthralled by the romance aspect of it. Jillian Robichaux, detective in the NOPD, arrives at a crime scene where a woman has been murdered. All signs point to some kind of involvement in a BDSM lifestyle and Jillian quickly realises she's seen a case very similar to this recently. While questioning the possibility of it being a serial killer an agent from the FBI is sent to assist in ascertaining whether this is the case. Angela (AJ) Johnson rolls in in her leather motorbike gear and between her quick mind and dominant presence, Jillian feels the stirring of something she hasn't experienced in a long time, possibly ever.

The story is written in third person from both Jillian's and AJ's points of view but from Jillian's side I got a much more balanced and better sense of who she was. I could follow her thoughts on the open cases, get some insight into her history and also how she found herself reacting to AJ. AJ, on the other hand, I got a sense of her work as an agent and some vague references to her previous relationships but I got no indication of her feelings towards Jillian. I found this very disconcerting and it seemed as though everything was one-sided.

Fortunately the investigation kept me captivated.

This was a very good book. Well written, good pacing, riveting plot, extremely well researched, interesting characters. We get a wonderful flavor of New Orleans life. It really had me engrossed from start to finish.

The Domme Tamer (only in the last couple of chapters did I get the meaning of the title) gave me a wider understanding of the domme/sub culture, or the 'lifestyle' as they called it. Also there was a very detailed account of the goings-on during a police investigation and the collaboration with the FBI. The author kept all of this very entertaining but nevertheless, when you finish this book you feel you actually learned something ;-)

The relationship between Homicide Detective Jillian Robichaux and SSA A.J. Johnson III (that Mind, Body and Soul thing was a wonderful touch) was complicated, erotic and fascinating. Great couple!

f/f explicit
Themes: Nawlins chèr, Kat Evans takes no prisoners, there were some graphic scenes that had me clutching my pearls a few times, okay I believed everything except for the scissoring scene, it was not the scissoring and the necessity of our girls doing it but the location... you are NOT telling me you go and do the deed in that derelict shanty... on the filthy cum-stained mattress in the bedroom of an abused little girl... that was such a mood killer for me... I was sitting here going ewww ewww WTF?! but other than that I recommend!

4.7 stars, chèr.

This book left me with chills. I haven’t read something as intense since reading Shadowland and Provincetown Tales by Radclyffe. Totally blown away.

When NOPD Detective Jillian Robinchaux ties the murder she is investigating with another two that took place months prior, it’s clear she has a serial murderer on the loose. The FBI assigned Agent AJ Johnson to help profile and investigate the case. Jillian feels an attraction to AJ straight away and when she learns about the lifestyle AJ is a part of, she only wants more.

This is the first novel I’ve read by Kat Evans and it truly knocked my socks off. Firstly, I normally don’t get too excited about an author I’ve not read before but from chapter one, I was hooked and couldn’t put the book down. Secondly I’m always looking for authors that think outside the realm of the standard Lesfic trends and this ticked that box in a big way. I’m not one to read romantic suspense thrillers but this took things to a new and interesting level.

I loved both Jill and AJ for very different reasons. AJ comes across as a tough andro/butch and don’t get me wrong, she definitely is, but there are moments when she’s with Jill that are so delicate and sensual it left me quite enamoured by her. Jill was a tough cookie to crack but when she begins to learn about the BDSM lifestyle from AJ, she becomes more open and as she begins to trust AJ, her personality softens in the moments where it’s just them.

One thing you may not know about me is I’m a big fan of research and I often check that the facts I didn’t know before I read the book are correct and Kat Evans nailed it. She wrote a whole new side to BDSM that I was not aware of and when googling for better understanding, I realised she had nailed every phrase and her descriptions where 100% accurate.

The sex scenes between Jill and AJ where fantastic. All aspects of their sex life followed a strict agreement that was followed to the letter. My favourite BDSM scenes are the ones that follow the contractual agreement or you can sense the unwavering trust between the couple.

The subplot of the murders was chilling and quite frankly at time made me a little uncomfortable but that was what made the book so good. There were moments my skin was crawling and I was pumped to imagine AJ and Jill tearing the case apart. I also found my brain going into overdrive with the case details trying to work out who the murder could be… I attribute that to the thriller aspect of the novel.

I am honestly stunned at how much this novel floored me. I can’t wait to see what comes next from Kat Evans.

If the fabulous cover doesn’t draw you in then I hope my review does.

I gave this book 4* because giving it less would be unfair but there’s no way I’m ever reading it again. It’s very well done and reasonably well written but I was uncomfortable from first to last page. Which is actually a good thing, the story told should leave you uncomfortable. But one time is enough for me. I need a sweet romance after this.

A fast-paced thriller with elements of erotica romance - this was an engaging read. The bdsm scenes and descriptions were well done and the author didn't go overboard with them. Character development was good and I liked their complicated relationship. It was nice that though they fell into an insta-relationship, the author took time to show the complicated emotions of someone newly entering into the bdsm world. This would've been 4.5 stars for me except for the reconciliation scene, specifically the location of the scene, which wasn't in good taste. (You'd have to read to find out) It would be fun to revisit these characters in another mystery thriller. 4 stars for keeping me engrossed and dying to find out the climax.

4.25 stars, I had been on a bad stretch of sub par books, then bam this sexy thriller smacks me upside the head, & threw me into a new space. This book has something for everyone: sexy semi androgynous FBI agent, local sort of straight new Orleans detective, BDSM, serial killer, sex toys, add in a newbie (aka detective) willing to try the lifestyle by earlier said FBI agent, and you have one hell of a ride. Definitely an amped up sexy read, no shame in it all. This is the first book I've read by this author but definitely will not be the last, i will track down other releases.

Wow, this is the second five-star book I’ve read in 2019. I just devoured it! The story is fast-paced, erotic and suspenseful. The relationship between Jillian and AJ is smoking hot.

The story gets very dark toward the end, but it’s dealt with in a sensitive and not explicit manner.

Let me say that I really enjoyed this read, although there were some flaws that stop this moving on to a 5 star.

The story throws you around a bit. The cover says erotica. The opening starts with masturbation, and I make myself comfortable for a smutty ride. It doesn't stay there and then we are flung into a murder mystery story. And then there is more...

For a while, I didn't feel anything for the MC Jillian, and I really detested AJ. Some of the exchanges between them are decidedly awkward. But the crime story took over and it was superb apart from a few issues between the MCs.

Then we flew back into erotica. Now I often skirt this part because it has been all done and said a thousand times before, but I actually read this. All of it. It's pretty hot stuff too. It kinda fit in with the story, training someone for the Lifestyle is an excuse to add smut, but it worked here. The other sex scenes, not so much, and one took place in a location that was definitely icky, and so they detracted from the flow.

AJ didn't work for me either. I know little about her, except she appears to be harsh and heartless, arrogant and meh. And the declaration of love at the end took me by surprise. And not in a good way. The same is true of the job change etc. But that is an epilogue, but it should follow on with some expectation of reasonable flow.

One of the best Lesfic thrillers I have read. And I will read another Kat Evans.

This was a great read. I could barely put it down. I haven't had one of those too often this year. Interesting plot set in the subculture of BDSM. I have to admit I learned a little bit too. Nice chemistry between the main characters.
I can see where this may be difficult for some to read....so if you have specific triggers you may want to look a little more closely before diving in.

4.5 rounded up....because come on...it's in N'awlins and the author mentions Cafe Du Monde'!!

“The Domme Tamer” was the 1st book I read by Kat Evans and by George, was I glad I took The Lesbian Review’s review and recommendation by heart because it was a memorable read, indeed!

Evans’ ability to structure a dark, twisted, horrendous but addictively captivating plot around the evolution of a relationship between two very different, equally strong-willed individuals that grew more complex and intense as their connection invariably deepened as the case they were thrusted into to solve together progressed.

This book ticked all the boxes for me in the romance & crime/thriller genre. More often than not, only one would come out on top at the expense of the other. But not this one. In this case, the romance and the crime/thriller fed off of each other in strength & connectivity - body, mind and soul. The more intense the investigation got, the more intense AJ & Jillian’s interdependence became on an emotional level. I appreciated that the romance was true to their characters – intensely erotic & intoxicating.

I loved how Evans cleverly structured the case with a healthy dose of behavioural science and psychology weaved into it. Really appreciated the research Evans put into the complexities of the human mind and translated it into words that formed a compelling, fast-paced, suspenseful, intense thriller.

Equally intensifying, if not more, was the budding romance between AJ and Jillian. Wow. Their chemistry jumped out right from the start! Their undeniable attraction to each other, the evolution of their physical and emotional connection, and the unequivocal true feelings they have for each other were so evocatively described on the pages…. sizzlingly erotic, seductively intense & deeply provocative. I loved how the dichotomy between AJ’s dominance & utter vulnerability & Jillian’s steadfast dedication & assuredness so naturally meshed together like these two souls always belonged to each other! Breathtakingly sublime!

The nature & “technicality” of the Dominant/submissive arrangement between 2 consenting adults was an eye-opening lesson for me. I never knew it was like a business transaction. A signed contract? Limits? Electrolytes? Blimey! Needless to say, it was utterly fascinating to read and learn. I’m grateful to Kat Evans for the education which she deftly weaved into a captivating, realistic love story.

I love the title of the book. So appropriately named. Throughout the story, AJ & Jillian’s “arrangement” slowly but surely turned into a relationship that defied the “proper” etiquette of a D/s liaison, and Evan nailed it with gloriously passionate & intense language that oozed realistic perfection. When it all came to a head, I could feel just how broken AJ became and the utter defiance that Jillian manifested jolted AJ’s true emotions and love for Jillian that she finally was able to face Jillian with the truth of how she felt. Alas, the top who couldn’t be topped was ultimately tamed by her one and only. Hence…..”The Domme Tamer.” BRILLIANT!!

My favourite exchange between these two souls:
“I knew from the beginning that considering our chemistry, we would develop feelings. I’m sorry for going too far the last time we were together. Although you may not have realized it, you’re not the type to have soft limits. To you, limits are limits, and I should have picked up on that about you sooner. But believe me, I didn’t do this to walk away. I agreed to do this because I was willing to go the distance. This isn’t the end of the road for us, not from where I’m standing.”

“Even if what you’re saying is true, it would never work with us. I’m not your sub. I’m your equal. So game over. ”

"Yes, I’ve dominated here and there, but only sexually and casually. I never had a plan of returning to it until you asked me.”

“I’m not some dude using you for sex, but neither am I some stud whose only purpose is to service you. I have feelings too.” Her warm fingers closed around Jillian’s hand. AJ leaned far enough back so that there was enough space between them for her to place Jillian’s palm on her chest, over her heart. “You’re in my heart. I love you, kitten.”

All in all, what can I say about Kat Evans’ “The Domme Tamer” except that it’s a MUST-READ!! It’s prolly one of the most affecting, memorable erotic romance mixed so superbly with a brilliantly crafted thriller I’ve read. There’s fab erotic romance, there’s fab erotic thriller, but not a fabulously crafted erotic romance thriller, until this one. Well done, Ms. Evans!

This is truly one of me favourite lesfic novels and AJ & Jillian are one of me favourite lesfic couples! I was so enamelled to their story I wasn’t ready for the book to end when it did! Obviously, I was devastated! *sigh* But the beauty of it all is that I could re-visit their story over and over again! I’ve read this 3 times, thusfar, and will be on me list of multiple reads, that’s for sure!

So, if you haven’t read this, GO. READ. IT.

Satisfaction. Guaranteed. That. Is. All.

Kat Evans is now one of me favourite lesfic authors. Naturally, I’ve read ALL of her books since TDT, obvs , and won’t be missing any of her future work, that’s a guarantee!

This was the book I've decided to test my kindle unlimited trial with and I'm happy I did, because even though it wasn't something I enjoyed much, at least I didn't have to spend money for it. That would have made me extremely salty. This way I just feel like I've wasted a few hours of my life that I'm never getting back.

Anyhow, onto the story. We got two MCs, Jillian the loner, hardass cop and Alex the FBI agent and of course a killer on the lose who leaves their victims tied up in always the same BDSM position. So far, I was intrigued, since the book seemed to provide me with lots of dark vibes, mystery, thrills and maybe a few quite steamy scenes. But in the end it just didn't really work out.

Jillian acts so unprofessional several times (even risking the investigation) that it makes me wonder how she still managed to stay a detective (competition must be basically nonexistent I guess), Alex is an arrogant POS who is all about mutual trust that she throws out of the window whenever it's convenient for her (or when she just feels like it, I guess, considering how easily she crossed a line Jillian has set and was all surprised pikachu later when Jillian freaked out), and in the end I felt like this whole book would have been a lot more interesting if we dumped those two characters and just concentrated on the killer. And let me not even get started on that last scene that was wrong on so many levels that it almost made me physically sick.

At least the crime part was kinda fun and the killer was pretty messed up and also quite well written, so there is that.

Just wow... this was so much more than I was expecting, in a very good way. I loved the plot with the murders and police investigation and I loved the relationship between the FBI agent and the homicide detective. AJ and Jillian’s chemistry was OFF THE CHARTS!! The intensity of it all was just mind-blowing. And I’m very much surprised with myself rn bc, I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but I’ve finished this book feeling sorry for the serial killer yikes just like Jillian was feeling - “Not really. Sure, I would rather not ever see her again, but I feel sorry for her more than anything else.”
I mean, if she hadn’t killed those three innocent women, I’d be screaming for them to release her lol bc she did a public service by killing those awful nasty men. But those three women didn’t deserve that. But anyways... it’s a really good book with a very interesting story and a very sexy relationship. 100% recommend

To me it's a great book because it held my attention to the very end. I enjoyed the dynamic and chemistry between the two MCs. I also liked the twist in this dom/sub relationship.

At some point, I think that the book is probably not for everybody. For one, BDSM is obviously not for everybody. And two, due to my upbringing and character, I was able to relate with one of the MCs in many levels and reading about it was like talking to someone who could understand and that felt good. So it could potentially be a DNF for someone who can't relate or understand.

The crime itself was heart-breaking and sad, but the plot about how they caught the killer was smart, believable, and convincing. Straight 5 stars!

This is the somewhat complex tale of Jillian, a New Orleans police detective, and AJ, an FBI agent, as they search for a serial killer. During their developing sapphic relationship, AJ introduces Jillian to the BDSM lifestyle and they enter a Dominant/submissive arrangement. It is quite erotic, well written, and the pace certainly maintains the reader's interest. Some may find the story dark and disturbing, but it is an excellent thriller with two very strong women. Many scenes will keep you burning hot and your knickers wet indeed:) Read it soon. XOXOXOs to the author, Kat Evans, for creating this wonderful mystery.

This book was steamy and written so well. I can definitely tell the author went to great lengths to write a believable and thoroughly researched book interweaving BDSM and crime procedure together. I couldn't put the book down. I really enjoyed reading the developing sensual dynamic between Jillian and AJ.

Another incredible book by Kat Evans. It is about two strong and independant women who join forces to catch a serial killer. I loved Jillian and AJ and even felt a sense of compassion for a character I never thought I would feel that way about. The erotica was hot and very tastefully written. Not a typical erotic novel though. Evans combines erotica with an incredible story and incredibly strong characters and weaves a tale you won't forget. Can't wait to see what Kat Evans has up her sleeve next.

This is my first book I have read by Kat Evans. I was interested in BDSM being involved in a crime solving mystery book.

I ended up just not connecting with the characters enough to enjoy the book. There were instances in the sex scenes where I could not see how the romance could be developed. Some of the scenes were also just frustrating (see other reviews). I also don’t do well with toaster ovens and I did not really like how this was dealt with in the story.

I did enjoy the mystery and crime solving in the story. It definitely evoked some emotions at the end. Not a horrible read, just not my cup of tea.
➢Happy reading!

As soon as I accepted that this was the "Showgirls" of the lesbian novels, I was able to keep reading and actually had fun. And by that I mean the book starts with such cheesy descriptions ("her hands had gripped deadly weapons and pleasured beautiful women ; inflicted pain and comforted the suffering" LOL), and it has a cheap thrill aspect that at first was really annoying, but then I actually started laughing and having fun - like Showgirls :) .

I confess I was even a bit sad when it ended. But I'm not sure if I want to go after Kat Evans other books... TBD on that.

The book was okay until it reached the end. There was a sex scene in a location where there should never be a sex scene.
The writing style was simple and it was a quick and easy read.

Kat Evans says that she has tried to create a blend of romance, erotica and suspense and imo she has done so splendidly.

A string of murders in New Orleans gets classified as a case of serial killings owing to the similarities in cases (and a Modi's operandi) which due to which FBI cop AJ (hot, butch, Dominant AJ) teams up with New Orleans detective Jillian.

I really loved how Kat Evans has weaved romance in the crime aspects. I'd say the story was more of a crime thriller with a romance sub-plot, but the romance was very much there. The electric dynamic between Jillian and AJ, their face-off and then Jillian's introduction into the lifestyle by AJ—it was all very hot (I kind of don't get why Jillian had to become AJ's play sub just to get inside the club when she didn't even have to use her skills, but who's complainin’!)

As for the crime aspects, I don't really read this genre (my last crime addiction was The Silence of the Lambs I believe), but Kat Evans depiction of the NOPD life and the intricate workings of the FBI felt realistic. And, even if it wasn't, as a reader I didn't feel there were any holes. As far as thriller goes, the suspense was awesome. Kat Evans hooked me in from the start and didn't let up until the very end! The exploration of the serial killer's mindset, childhood and exposition was kind of toe-curling.

The New Orleans local flavour with the Cajun French and all the accent (N’ Awlins after all!) added a little something extra to the authenticity of the story.

A bit of a spoiler on the ending—. The ending isn't clear at all about whether Jillian and AJ continued living the lifestyle, Jillian is so vanilla and that is okay! except this book felt like another case of "renouncing BDSM after finding love".

All in all, a 3.5 rounded to a 4.

Where do I begin! Kat Evans hooked me in from the very first chapter and I have to say it was one hell of a pleasurable ride. Everybody loves a strong woman but in this we got two beautifully strong independent women in their own right, so when they're in the same space it's inevitable that sparks will fly.

The best way to describe this is almost two stories in one. On one hand we have the very real time sensitive crime that needs to be solved and on the other we have this new awakening in more ways than one for Jillian and AJ.

I love the openness of Jillian in this story and that she doesn't try to fight the feelings that she's developing towards AJ despite never having been in love with another woman. Equally so I can't help but have the slightest girl crush on AJ with her whole tough domme exterior but the way she loves Jillian is pure ecstasy. Mark my words ladies the sex scenes in this are blistering and definitely not the type you want to be reading in a crowded space.

I have to confess that this is the first book I've read of Kat Evans but I can 100% confirm it will definitely not be the last! An absolute joy to read and a definite 5/5 from me.

I didn't want it to end

If you're looking at these reviews you have some interest. I highly recommend you read this book. It's a definite page turner. I have neglected all of my responsibilities in order to finish this book. There's nothing else I can add about the plot that the description and other readers have written. The characters are captivating as well as the suspense of figuring out who thee killer is. I'm not experienced with BDSM, but I seek out a lot of books with this type of theme. This is nicely done. The sex scenes are extremely hot and erotic. This is a book that I know I will revisit often!

disappointing

The book started out really great and the murder storyline was very captivating. It all went downhill the minute AJ and Jillian started their journey into BDSM together. It was so rushed and out of place. The Dom/sub dynamic they had wasn't discussed thoroughly at all so I don't understand how Jillian felt comfortable enough to scene with AJ seeing as this is her first time with a woman AND first BDSM scenes. It just doesn't make sense. There was also the Master thing that irritated me and some other things that made me question the author's gender but I will leave those out as speculation. I was very disappointed with the BDSM aspect of this book.
