Jess is on the hunt for a vicious killer when an old woman stumbles into his camp. She seems to have lost her memory. He helps the woman and takes her to the town of Hinkle, where she lives. While in Hinkle, a cattle drive comes to town a week earlier than expected. The marshal doesn’t have any deputies yet, so he convinces Jess to hang around and help until his deputies arrive.
The boss running the cattle drive tries to hire Jess on as a hired gun after Jess kills one of his guards, but he turns down the offer. He has a few more encounters with some of the guards and eventually he kills another one. The deputies finally arrive and Jess leaves Hinkle to search for another vicious killer, Bruce Payne, who leaves a trail of dead bodies behind him.
Payne proves to be a very elusive prey and Jess finds himself in several different predicaments. Trouble seems to get in his way at every turn, but he is determined to catch Payne and end his killing spree for good.

In 1990 Robert J. Thomas was sworn in as the full time mayor for the city of Westland, Michigan. He served twelve years, making him the longest serving mayor in Westland's history.
While he was mayor he wrote his first book titled, How to Run for Local Office, which has now sold over 25,000 copies worldwide.
He has written and published on Kindle, the Jess Williams Westerns series. Retired, he now lives in Mississippi with his wfe Jill.
Better couple of storylines than the last two efforts by Thomas. Makes me wonder if he doesn't have ghost writers doing a book or two every now and then. This one is up to Thomas' higher standards.
Jess Williams doing what he does best, killing those sociopaths, who can't stop themselves, in fact, they love the pain they cause. He helps a elderly couple, the wife has moments that she forgets her name, where she lives. This woman suffers from my guess early on set of Alzheimer Disease, the husband is at his wits end. So Jess takes her back to town, helps them with money to purchase a bigger home so that the Alzheimer patient sister can come and help with caring and the husband will finally have some peace. Jess Williams Series has the same through out all his books of tracking, hunting for the scabs of society who prey up on innocent. Loads of drama action and the puns here and there will make you laugh. He loves his horses, takes very good care of them. Shadow didn't make an appearance in this adventure, but he's another spiritual protector. ......ENJOY EVERYONE...JESS WILLIAMS
As usual Mess ones more then he bargains for before he finds his man. He not only helps those in need but also some who doesn't want his help. Very good series and as usual waiting on the next book in this series.Would highly recommend this to everyone who enjoys a great story.
Another fine Western from Thomas. He continues to write interesting and fast moving bounty hunter novels. My main wish is that he never stops. Looking forward to reading number sixty-five. I highly recommend this author.
Another excellent novel by this author. I enjoyed reading this novel and I am waiting for the next novel with Jess Williams. I recommend this book to everyone.
As usual a really great book. I really like reading these books on Jess Williams. They keep you turning the pages for more. Hope to see book sixty four real soon.
Robert Thomas just keeps getting better. He churns out the series but never waters them down. Jess is back to killing one by one in this one. Good action.
Going for 65. Don't have much to say about this one. Not to exciting. Jess just did as usual.Helping someone. Not looking like usual. But will probably will. JD
