Trick is the story of Faith Peyton, a human woman that must marry by law so she is put into a computer and selected for Alaric Woods, bear shifter and part of the “shifter monarchy” as a top architect in rebuilding their society.

I’m a big fan of Scarlett Dawn’s work. There is no denying it. I’ve read and re-read everything she has written but I am also going to admit that I liked the Origin series but haven’t loved it until now…Trick just did it for me.

Fast paced, funny and serious with some real insight into the reason behind everything that was happening and why…I really found myself absorbed in the characters plight/fight to thrive/survive.

I received a review copy of Trick from Scarlett Dawn. This is my honest and voluntary review.

I actually really like the MC's in this story but I wish there more scenes with them. I feel like I didn't really get to know Faith or Alaric which is a shame as they're such cool and fun characters. And while I appreciated the lighter tone of the plot (versus the previous books), I couldn't help but feel like this book's story was a filler until we get to Theron & Pizza Girl and eventually . Still, this series has been great and I can't wait for the next book!

Ok. I almost forgot how much I loved this author’s sense of humor.
Parts of this book were fucking hilarious.

Then, of course, other parts were really fucking sad.
Somehow, it balanced out though.

I’m really glad I picked this series back up.
Everything is starting to fall into place now. And I’m excited about it all again.

We got a lot of answers in this book.
I’m really hoping we get to see them all play out so all the questions that popped up along side all the answers don’t drive me insane.

The plot of this was a bit wild, but really fun. The title of the book is so on the nose, it’s not even funny.
The characters were all their fantastic selves and I had a blast getting to know Alaric and Faith while the others that I’d already fallen in love with popped up throughout the book.

The sex was hot and sensual, but sadly only happened on page once and was too brief for my greedy, smuttaholic self.

I had a really good time reading this, though.
I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book. Wolfe is way too adamant about it not happening to him for it not to be epic when it does.
I can’t wait.

It was a little saddening to know that there's nothing much for faith and alaric plot-wise. It felt like they were some kind of a side story to Poppy-Cass/Theron-pizza delivery girl. Like they were ripped off of their own book.

Shame, too, this one. Faith was the most interesting heroine from this series. At least in my opinion. She's cool and witty and well-rounded. She's not in-your-face strong/badass. But she's not meek/fragile either. I think she's the balance needed among them (the gang). And her character definitely made up for the lack of personal/background story.

WARNING: for whatever reason my actual Kindle was missing chapters as compared to the Kindle Android app. You may also get the same problem?

I liked the heroine but aside from Jonathan & conversation with Crazy Seerer - not a lot to this book.

Trick by the incredible talented author Scarlett Dawn is the fourth book in the Origin Series.
Trick is not a standalone and I highly recommend to read the books in order. Book one, Trigger tells Poppy and Godric´s story; book two, Transcend is Mina and Finn´s book; book three, Torment is Megan and Rune´s story.
Trick picks up where Torment left off. Mr. Valentine is back and more devious than ever. He picks a young woman and shoves her into the path of another powerful shifter.
Faith Peyton volunteered to become a wife through Marriage Match. She was selected by the highest bidder.
Alaric Woods is a powerful architect and friends with Cass, Finn, Rune and Wolfe. He´s one of the Kings of New City. When a woman shows up on his doorstep, declares to be his future wive and refuses to leave his temper flares.
I started reading and I was hooked from the beginning. I read the book in one sitting, I couldn´t put it down. I had to know what happened to the characters. The writing is great, I love the story, the characters and the words. I could feel the characters emotions in the words. Trick is witty, fun and sexy, but also raw and gritty with the right amount of danger, madness and violence.
I can´t say how much I love the book and the series. And I can´t wait to read the next book in the series, Wolfe´s story; Trap. I recommend Trick and wish I could give more than 5 stars. Thank you, Scarlett Dawn !

Trick is the 4th in the series of ‘The Origin’ Shifter Romance by Scarlett Dawn.

Trick is based on Faith Peyton and Alaric Woods. Faith is nearing her birthday of 25 and by law she has to marry if she doesn’t join the Corporate Army, so she voluntarily chooses to go through the marriage match and by luck straight away she gets bids hitting through the roof and and then selected by the highest bidder. She is then given 24 hours to meet her new fiancé to complete the marriage match contract. She does so but by mistake she knocks on the front door of the one and only Alaric Woods, where when meeting they find out that they are mates.

As soon as I started reading, I was hooked, in here we got so much more information on what was going on in the background with Poppy and Cass and who’s been puppeteering the couples, as well as scenes between pizza girl and Theron, those are the two couples I’m most excited to read on what will happen!

If your looking for a short Shifter romance with lots of humour and friendship then here’s one for you but make sure you read the earlier books in the series as this isn’t a standalone!

I liked this book. I was very interested in the Mr. Valentine plot and I was on the edge of my seat waiting for him to make his next move. In that aspect of the book, I think Scarlett Dawn did very well. In the character development and making me emotionally attached to the characters, she has been falling short in the last few installments. The books in this series keep getting shorter and shorter leading to less and less character development which is essential to a good book or series. You can't love something unless you are emotionally connected to it. I will be reading the future installments in this series, but unless something changes when it comes to character development, I don't think this will become one of my favorite series anytime soon.

Origin #4

I absolutely love it😍😍😍😍💙💙💙💕💕💕!!!! I've been waiting patiently for this book and I want disappointed. A trick brought them together but love will keep them there. A couple twists I want expecting God's death was the jumping point for many relationships. Now we know more about who is fated to be mates and I Cabot wait to read the next book. Waiting impatiently for #5

This was a truly enjoyable read. I have enjoyed all of the books in this series. Each book has its own personality. This was a ‘lighter side’ of the story that has been evolving with each issue. It was engaging and entertaining, full of good humor and love. The conversations between the characters are very believable. Another well done, Scarlett.

Alright, I had nothing against Faith or Alaric but the revelations in main plot ticked me off and left horribly sour taste in my mouth. Damn, I really hate villains who help good guys in their own way. For me, it's the worst cliché in the book (and TV) world.

Must read!

Another one bites the dust! This is Alaric and Faith's story and I love them as a couple. You get to see a softer side of Alaric and Faith, his mate, is one tough cookie. More secrets are revealed about the overall plot and I can't wait for the next one in the series. Scarlett Dawn's books are always a must read and this one didn't disappoint.

As always, Dawn brings an amazing story with a wonderful web of characters that are both fierce and romantic. Steamy would be an understatement. I would recommend this to those who enjoy romance, paranormal or not. As well as those who enjoy urban fantasy as a whole. It does not disappoint.

This is one great series. It starts with Trigger. This is the fourth book in the series. Faith is turning twenty five, she must sign up with a marriage broker and be matched. All this must happen before she turns twenty five. Faith is a strong and capable woman. She is the first mate on a fishing boat. She knows how to survive and is a hard worker. She is matched with the highest bidder, Alaric Wood. She sure did not expect that, one of the richest and most reclusive of men. Off she goes to meet her future husband.
Alaric has no idea who Faith is or why she is knocking on his door. He goes into berserker mode but before he can harm her, he stops. She smells wonderful and like HIS. He does not want a mate.
This is a fun and fast paced book. I urge you to start at the beginning of the series. So many wonderful characters and a compelling and intriguing story.

Trick by Scarlett Dawn is the fourth novel in the Origin series, and as we have hit the halfway mark of on Origin, it has the most reveals and surprises for fans of the series.

Faith Peyton is a brand new character to Origin and I love her! She’s a straightforward, what you see is what you get kind of girl. And it’s a breath of fresh air to have a character like that. An orphan with little memory of her childhood or her own origins, Faith works as a fisherman, but as her 25th birthday approaches she is forced to seek marriage or join the Corporate Army. As she is not army material, Faith goes to the city’s matchmaking company and is bid on and won by one of the richest men in the world: Alaric Wood.

Alaric has been a bit of mystery in the series. While he’s made cameos in the previous books, not much is known about him and I have to say I wound up falling in love with him. He’s a bear, both figuratively and literally. His rage once unleashed is hard to control, and as it seems the Master is now messing with him in sending Faith to his doorstep, another fight is looming. I love the mystery surrounding Alaric but also how gentle he really is. Instead of a ferocious, scary bear, he’s adopts a teddy bear attitude where Faith is concerned.

Of all the relationships that have featured so far in the series, I love the buildup around Faith and Alaric. It’s a slow build with chemistry oozing off the pages. But what I loved most about this book is the big reveal. I do not want to spoil anything about this so I am putting it in spoiler tags: This reveal makes the book. Not only does it pertain to the entire series, but it also is leading us down a path that I have a feeling will eventually blow up in all out war…..which I’m not opposed too.

Overall I really enjoyed this book, finishing it in one sitting. Faith and Alaric are wonderful additions to the series. I love their chemistry, as it reminds me of my own relationship with my husband. And I love how important this book is to the series as a whole. Up to this point, each book could be read as a standalone, but I feel no one should skip out on this one. If you enjoy the series so far, prepare to have your mind blown by this one. If you haven’t started the series yet and enjoy paranormal romance in a dystopian setting, I highly recommend you start by grabbing a copy of Trigger and prepare to binge!

An Origin Novel

Dystopian Paranormal Romance

✮✮✮✮
I purchased this at the current price. This is my honest review for which I receive no compensation of any kind.

The cover is the same style of the others in the series. I’m not sure about how the young woman’s hair and the bear’s fur blend or don’t blend. The story is a bit off from what the other stories are. The pace is fast. But the tension suffers from the switches between sex and the weather and ocean stats.

And here begins the reveal…

Faith Ann Peyton is a fisherman approaching her 25th birthday and since she doesn’t want to go into the army, she’s entered into the Marriage Match to see if she can win herself a high-priced marriage mate. Ethan Striker is the man in charge of the Marriage Match and he explains its process to her while the bidding goes on. Suddenly, he announces that the Maximum Bid has been met and that bidding is closed. She has a mate. The person who met that Maximum Bid is Alaric Timon Wood of Wood Corp. Mr. Striker takes her to Mr. Wood’s home to deliver her. He drops her off at the end of the driveway and she has to walk up the very, very long driveway to the mansion. Mr. Wood doesn’t answer the door on the first knock. On the second knock, he slams the door in her face. On the third knock, she forces her way in. Faith feels that someone is controlling her. She feels it inside her, controlling her words and actions to provoke Mr. Wood into berserker mode so that he’d recognize his mate. Who would want to force a big brown bear into berserker mode? Whatever, it works. Alaric does go into berserker mode, but he handles it well and no one gets hurt. The bear recognizes his mate. Cass shows up and helps out by explaining things to Faith while Alaric has been knocked out for the night.

The next morning is a much better introduction for the two of them. Faith and Alaric agree to start over and recognize the mating and the Marriage Match. Cass makes pancakes for breakfast and then they all go shopping! The guys need tuxes, but not until Faith and Cass have had fun driving Alaric crazy with some more feminine shopping. Given the size of Alaric, and all the guys, his regular tailor is chosen as the best bet for a fitting, until Cass has a seer moment. Escorting them away quickly from the exploding storefront, Cass and Alaric are killed. Rune comes to the rescue by picking them up and taking them to his house. Another rocky introduction. With both Cass and Alaric dead, Rune doesn’t trust that Faith didn’t kill Alaric until Alaric regenerates. In order to keep Faith safe, Alaric takes her to his house, because until they have sex, she’s not an immortal.

Butch Fitzgerald is the captain of the fishing boat that Faith worked with. He’s concerned for her because she’s confined to Alaric’s house. He’s willing to get her a false identity so she can disappear. But it’s their wedding day and Faith is willing to do things Alaric’s way. Part way down the aisle on her way to Alaric, Faith feels someone take over her body again. She tries to hold it off and manages to hurry the wedding and let Alaric know what’s happened. Unfortunately that doesn’t stop her from turning into a bear and going on a rampage and taking off into the woods to get away from sounds and smells. Cass helps block her from the other’s interference. He also does a spell on Poppy so that she should turn into a lioness to see what it is like. Godrik was a lion and she was mated to him. So she should turn into a lioness. But what comes out of the folds of her dress is a tiny fox vixen. Cass is a fox. How can this be? The magic always gets it right, so now they have to figure it out and learn to live with it. Poppy, mated to the late Godrik is meant for Cass, Godrik’s brother.

From one disaster to another it seems. Poisoning the bride with pizza at her own wedding seems to be another one. But it’s what finally got them to where they needed to be to keep Faith safe. Finally, in their own bed making love.

In an effort to track down who is taking control of Faith, she meets the group’s assassin, Jonathan. She notices that the group looks through him as if he’s not even there, so she treats him as a real person and makes a friend of him. However, the guy takes control of her and makes her punch him. The fear is that as Alaric’s mate now, she could kill him. They need Cass to block the spell.

Then Theron needs help wooing the pizza delivery girl. So it’s off to Dormi’s to question her about the guy that bribed her to poison the wedding pizza. They finally break through her shell and get a few answers, but they really don’t lead anywhere. They do find out that her father beats her and her mother and that’s what she needs money for. So she can get away.

Jonathan and Faith talk about the situation trying to figure out who is manipulating things. They go all the way back to the beginning, Marriage Match and how that all happened. Who was excited about the match? Where the information came from. Then Faith showed Jonathan a picture of Ethan Striker, the man from Marriage Match. All h#ll breaks loose. Cass and Theron are fighting about the last seer. Jonathan is in shock. All the big guys are tiptoeing around and backing off. Poppy is the one to diffuse the situation finally and gets them talking sanely. The whole group spent some time figuring out how the dark seer they used to have had used his twin brother and a transference of his own power to fake his death by Theron. So now Jonathan’s new job is to find Joshua Striker and kill him.

Butch needs help on the boat because his new help is sick. So, Faith goes with him. Suddenly, Butch is flashed overboard and gone and Joshua Striker is before her. They talk and Striker tells her what he wants eventually. He wants her to tell Theron to leave the rock alone because to move it will release a monster they don’t need to deal with. The second thing is that Faith is to go to the pizza shop and rescue the delivery girl as she is in danger. She’s to take her to Rune’s house to live. Then he tells her to use her silver bracelet and she is flying over the rail into the sea. She manages to get off a distress signal. Her bracelet buzzes and it Alaric. She tells him she’s overboard and needs help. She’s immortal. The sea takes her down time and time again. She dies over and over, five days she dies over and over again.

Butch has been found and buried. And now Faith is awake and Alaric is by her side. Cass blocks Striker’s magic. She tells Cass about not moving the lava rock and why. He accepts the message. Then she tells them they need to go rescue the pizza delivery girl because she is in danger and Theron hustles them out of the house. When they get to Dormi’s Pizza there has been a gas explosion and the whole block is a mess. The whole bunch of them start digging in and helping anyone who needs help. Then Faith and Theron find the delivery girl buried in the rubble. Faith talks with her while Theron digs her out. They take her off to the hospital for evaluation.

Life settles down a bit and Alaric and Faith get to be together as a couple.

Recommended.

I love this series!!!

So much humor! I laughed so hard there were tears running down my face! After the heartbreaking events in the previous books this was like a breath of fresh air.

The female characters just keep getting better and better. Each heroine is my favorite until I read the next and then she becomes my favorite. While there is progress in the overlying story arc, the way this book unfolds makes you realize that life goes on and you should appreciate what you have in the moment.

All of Scarlett’s books have an underlying theme. EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON. There is no part of her books where you should think that she’s just writing for the drama that killing someone or making a character suffer entails. Every detail is thought out and so meticulously written that makes reading her work an absolute dream.

I can’t wait for the next book in this series. Definitely a fan for life and looking forward to reading everything she publishes in the future!

Faith’s time is up, she knows she is not made to be part of the Corporate Army and so she must marry. She is ready to be a wife, ready to call a home hers (she was raised in an orphanage). Mainly she just wants to belong. So off to The Marriage Match for her, a company that matches couples based on the highest bidder. The computer matches her with Alaric Woods, so she goes to met her future hubby.

Alaric had no idea that he was being matched, so color him surprised when he opens the door. He is even more surprised when she doesn’t back down and start weeping when he tells her to go away. Instead she meets him grumpy proclamations with peppy ones of her own.

Nothing much frazzles Faith, which is a nice refresher from the previous female characters. She doesn’t come across as hard or needed. She really is just strong, steady. I think her addition will add a bit of peppery sweet personality that the other female characters are missing. She isn’t jaded by her experiences in life and she doesn’t need to stay and fight.

I like how light this one is, Torment really did torment me and so I needed a book that wasn’t too deep in the darkness after what happened.

A lot goes on in this book, so much so that is isn’t really a book about Faith and Alaric but more about what the heck is going on. Who Mr. Valentine is, what is his end game, plus his background are all revealed. So in essence this one really did push the series forward with leaps and bounds. It is looking like the month of March will be lucky as we get the next book in the series, Trap.

My Rating 4 out 5 stars

Faith and Alaric book 4

This book was definitely a lighter read then the last 2 had been. I felt like there was and wasn't any progress with the story line at the same time.
I gave this book 3.5 *** stars because the female and male lead were hysterical. They met each other by accident, and yet no accident at all. Many things are brought to light about the main villain of the series in this book, and yet we're still hanging to the edge of our seats wondering what is actually going on!
I enjoyed Alaric and faith's story and it has definitely turned the series around, BUT I still can't get over God! I fell in love with book one with him and Poppy, and it's just not settling with me. I knew from the last book the way Mrs. Dawn wrote the scene where they all say goodbye, that it was final, but I had a small tiny bit of hope we'd maybe see him again.
** SPOILER **
NOPE! We learn in this book a new revelation about Cass and Poppy. And even our main villain guy confirms it. I love Cass! I just wish he had his own girl. It's going to be hard for him to wrap his head around Poppy actually being his, let alone actually acting on it and making a move on her.

Overall, good light read. Wolfe's book is next and I love wolves so I'm excited about it, even though we haven't gotten much on our Wolfe. The cover was beautiful and I can't wait to learn about the next girl.
As always Theron and the pizza girl are hysterical and starting to spice stuff up!

Bought book one (Trigger) - it was awesome - Loved Poppy and Godric
Borrowed book two (Transcend) with KU - It was OK but hate how the author treated Poppy and Godric and didn't give Finn much development
Borrowed book three (Torment) with KU - REALLY ,REALLY, REALLY hate what the author did to Poppy and Godric but the main character part of the story is OK
Borrowed book four with KU - still FREAKING HATE what the author did to Godric and Poppy and even though the author is slowly letting us know why she did it - I still HATE it

The story between Faith and Alaric is OK and we are given a glimpse into part of the puppet master's plan and get to find out the identity of the puppet master. Not crazy about where the author is taking Poppy or Cass or even Theron. The unveiling of the puppet master brings even more torment to our group of protectors and their mates. There is little romance in the book but the main Origin series plot keeps me coming back - it's like a train wreck that you can't look away from - no matter how hard you try.

Because I like you, I'm going to give you some advice.  Please read the previous books in this series.  I think that there is some serious world building and important story arcs which have their set-ups in books 1 - 3 which (in part at least) feed into and play out in this book.

With that proviso in mind, on the whole, I enjoyed the relationship between Faith and Alaric.  Of course, there is the usual insta love/lust that one often encounters in shifter novels.  In the context of that genre, I don't mind it.  The author has gifted the reader with characters that had some depth to them, as well as a plot that kept my interest.

I think that I shall be coming back for more.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Tone lightens a bit in this fun fast read with answers!

This was a great short read. After some of the heaviness of Torment, Trick was a breath of fresh air. I loved Faith and Alaric and laughed many times during this book. Even better, we start getting some very concrete answers to who Mr Valentine is and what he may be trying to accomplish thought maybe not the whys. It could be because this was originally intended to be a 5 book series and is now 7. We also find out a bit more on what's going on with the Poppy plot thread. Those who haven't liked the direction so far may continue to not like it, but I felt it was there from her first book. I'm looking forward to the next book!

I haven’t been in love with this whole series, so keep that in mind. I think it’s because the books are so short I don’t have enough time with the characters. But I really dislike how in each book, the mate is in the group for a few days before everyone pretends she’s been in it the whole time! I want to see the relationships form. Also, how are two Seers alive when that’s supposed to be impossible? There should be an explanation for that! And I feel like all of the girls -except Mina- have the same personality which makes it tough to distinguish the characters. Even after my negative review, I still love Scarlett Dawn and will continue to read her books!

Love Faith. This book had many **awe she’s so sweet*** moments; a nice change up. Still worth the read even if you miss the action, because it’s well written and exciting. Love Scarlett’s work. It really says something that the book is still one that I devoured in two sitting even without all the proverbial explosions and car chases (although the car scene in this book was hilarious). Faith is definitely sweeter than the rest of the ladies in this series, but it goes show you can still be a badass without all the hoopla. Faith is the sugar to everyone else’s spice.
